    Delicious breakfast

I stayed here for my niece’s wedding. The meals were delicious—exactly what I was hoping for. It was also close to my parents’ family temple, so I was glad I could visit and pay my respects.

    Morning Walk to Kiyomizu-dera Temple

I stayed here with my husband while I was pregnant. One morning, we woke up unusually early and took a walk together to Kiyomizu-dera Temple. The location is excellent, and I think it’s ideal for sightseeing. The lounge was also very comfortable. I recommend staying in a Room with a large bath!

    Only the dining area is.

There were no issues with the Hotel’s location, design, or service, but it was disappointing that it wasn’t a private room at night or in the morning.

I was able to show my elderly mother my appreciation.

We stayed for one night with breakfast and dinner included. It was a Hotel with the warm hospitality of a Ryokan, and the meals were delicious—my elderly mother (88) was so satisfied that she said she wants to come again. The Room was clean and quiet, and we were able to relax comfortably even with three people using twin beds plus an extra bed (which was excellent). For dinner, we enjoyed a hamo kaiseki course—beautifully presented and carefully prepared—and savored it with fine Kyoto sake. After the meal, my wife and I had wine and whisky in the lobby lounge, and slept very well that night. The next morning, in the cool, refreshing air, we walked to Kiyomizu-dera early for a peaceful visit before the crowds arrived. Breakfast was also wonderful—the rice was outstanding, especially with grilled nori. From arrival to checkout, we felt completely relaxed. Thank you very much.

The staff were cheerful and very pleasant. I wish they were a bit more guest-focused. The outlet locations were inconvenient, there were some minor cleaning mistakes, and some Rooms didn’t feel worth the price. The heated eye mask amenity was great, and I liked that the TV was a SONY. Overall impression: 3 stars.

    Just right.

I had heard that the parking lot requires a Reservation, so when I applied via IKYU I wrote it in the remarks section. However, since communication through the remarks section didn’t go well with a previous Reservation at another Hotel, I called Saka no Hotel’s phone number to confirm—only to find it was a paid call charged at ¥○ per 2 minutes. When I learned it is part of the “Hotel New Awaji” group, I was a bit surprised. It also made sense that, despite being in Kyoto, most of the ingredients were from Awaji Island (the tofu, fu wheat gluten, and Manganji peppers were from Kyoto). I had been expecting local ingredients, so that was also surprising. Perhaps because there is a solid manual in place, the staff all used exactly the same wording at check-in without missing a single word—I was impressed (I noticed that what they said to other guests was identical to what they said to me). The room was clean. An open-air bath in the room is standard here; although we had some minor trouble with insects, an insect net was provided and it helped. The bedding was flawless—especially the pillow. If it were sold, I would have wanted to buy one. We also gratefully made use of the guest lounge with no complaints at all. The free alcoholic drinks in the lobby at night would likely be popular with those who enjoy alcohol. Since I don’t drink, I only went to see what kinds were available. Overall, everything was very good. I would like to visit again.

    Excellent location

We came to sightsee around Higashiyama. We were able to leave our car in the parking lot, and since there are temples and shrines within walking distance, we could enjoy sightseeing without worrying about parking. It was also great to be able to visit Kiyomizu-dera from the morning. We stayed in a first-floor Room with an open-air bath; it was just a little dark, but everything else—the meals, the lounge, and the service—was completely satisfying. As expected of the New Awaji Group (we have stayed at almost all of your affiliated properties on Awaji Island and are always very satisfied). It became a wonderful wedding anniversary (thank you for the drinks as well). We would love to visit again!

    Everything was great again.

This was my second stay. I stayed in mid-March this year, and because of the wonderful hospitality and how spotless the Accommodation was, I wanted to stay again and returned in May. Everything felt luxurious and was very nice, but there was one issue: the meals were exactly the same as last time. Yudofu is a Kyoto specialty, so that was understandable, but every dish—appetizers, tempura, sashimi, and more—was identical in both menu and ingredients to my previous stay. I had been looking forward to it, so I was very disappointed. Does the meal menu change only seasonally (meaning only four times a year)? It’s such a great Accommodation that I’ve already made a Reservation for September, but will the meals be the same then as well? I’m very concerned about this.

As spring approaches, this Accommodation by the clear water feels wonderfully gentle.

Set slightly back from a one-lane road behind one of Kyoto’s busiest streets, the Accommodation is quiet in contrast to the surrounding bustle. It is easy to reach by private car as well. Built deep on a sloping site, it is a charming building with thoughtful design touches. The lobby and salon offer enjoyable programs. Exchanging a few words with other guests, I felt it was an Accommodation with a refined clientele; international guests were also calm and quiet. The Room entrance has Kamakura-bori-style flooring; the bed area is carpeted, and by the window there is a raised tatami nook with a sunken kotatsu-style seating area. It was clean without feeling dusty, and the air conditioning worked very well. The square hinoki bath in the Room is large enough for a petite woman to stretch her legs out and soak up to her shoulders, and it fills in under 20 minutes. The private bath has an open-air view bath screened with louvers, large enough for the whole family to soak together—comfortable in summer—with two washing stations. The restaurant features playful interiors and table seating facing the garden. The cuisine is excellent, and pairs well with craft beer too. Staff across all departments were impeccably groomed and highly professional, wearing stylish costumes beautifully that were also fun to look at. There was a minor misunderstanding during Reservation arrangements, but their flawless follow-up and recovery impressed me and put me at ease.

    A Fun Family Trip

Our child loved the bath, so we used it both at night and in the morning. Choosing a plan with both dinner and breakfast was the right decision. We would like to stay here again.

    Highly recommended.

I stayed at a Hotel in the New Awaji Group on Awaji Island quite a long time ago and had a very positive impression, so I chose this Hotel for my stay this time. The service was as good as expected. In particular, one of the male restaurant staff members (I don’t know his name, but he seemed like a manager) always paid attention to our seating arrangement, which left a great impression. Thank you for your thoughtful care during such a busy period. Since I couldn’t book a Room with an Onsen, I chose a more reasonably priced Room, but it was still very comfortable. There are many sights around Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and staying at this Hotel puts them within walking distance. It was also nice that I could visit a well-known coffee shop during my morning walk. If I have another chance to stay in the Kansai area, I would like to try other Hotels in the same group as well.

    A Quiet Accommodation

It was a quiet Accommodation in the city, about a 10-minute walk to Kiyomizu-dera, and we were able to relax. The dishes were beautifully presented, and the sukiyaki was delicious.

    This is my go-to accommodation.

Everything has been excellent, and this was my 7th or 8th stay. The Hotel’s location and size feel calm and comfortable, and the staff are always courteous and wonderful. I feel truly at ease here. Every time I stay, I can relax. Thank you again for this visit.

A comfortable Hotel that satisfies you in every way.

The three of us stayed in a Room with an open-air bath. The open-air bath was available at any time, and there were plenty of bath towels, bathrobes, yukata, pajamas, and more, so we were able to relax in great comfort. We chose a Plan with breakfast included; there was a wide variety of dishes, just like the classic Ryokan breakfast. There is also a lounge on the third floor where we enjoyed coffee after breakfast—it was a lovely space that was very convenient to use. Next time, we would like to stay on a Plan with both breakfast and dinner included.

Delicious meals and a wonderful hinoki cypress bath.

I searched for a Hotel with great food and found this one. After check-in, I was welcomed with a welcome drink and sweets, and could enjoy a truly elegant time. In the relaxation Room, wine was served from the evening, and there were also massage chairs. For dinner, I chose the shabu-shabu course. Just as the Reviews said, it was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. The bath in the Room was a hinoki cypress bath, soothing with its calming aroma. The next morning, I enjoyed it as a sake bath. This is an Accommodation I would definitely like to stay at again.

    Birthday Trip

As it was my daughter’s and son’s birthday month, I made a Reservation with a Plan that included a whole cake and sparkling wine. The Hotel was very clean and stylish, both in the lobby and in the Room. The cake and the food were delicious, and both parents and children were very satisfied. The staff were also kind, and I would love to stay again when I visit Kyoto. Thank you very much.

I felt truly relaxed. The Room was spacious, and the food was absolutely delicious. The portions were just the right size, and everything was wonderful! The air conditioning worked very well, and the airflow didn’t blow directly on my body, so I stayed comfortable throughout my stay! I’d love to come again!

    A Moment in Higashiyama

Saka Hotel Kyoto near Kiyomizu-dera Temple We had a wonderful stay. An early-morning walk around Kiyomizu-dera Temple was an experience we could only have by staying here. The yudofu kaiseki was delicious, and we especially enjoyed comparing local Kyoto sake. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

It is truly located on a hill.

Located just before Shimizuzaka, the climb with luggage was a bit tiring, but the accommodation was excellent. The room was clean and spacious, with well-prepared amenities, and it was very quiet at night. Breakfast was also provided—a refined Japanese meal focused on health, featuring exceptional ingredients from Awaji Island. The staff were friendly, and the free drink area was always kept tidy. The bath was spacious with a relaxing cypress tub. The bed felt slightly soft for me personally, but I would love to visit again.

    Cozy and Comfortable

I was traveling alone, and what I care about most when choosing a Hotel is the comfort during meals. This Hotel thoughtfully provided a space for one person, and I was very satisfied. I was able to enjoy all the delicious dishes at my own pace. The staff's attentiveness also warmed my heart. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

    A Long-Awaited Visit to Kyoto

This is a small luxury Ryokan located within walking distance of Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Considering the Accommodation Fee, the meals were average, but the staff's service was commendable. However, I was concerned about the phone response when inquiring about the pick-up car and being made to wait because cleaning was not finished even after check-in time. The room had an open-air bath and was of a comfortable size. Amenities were limited, so it might be better to bring your own if needed.

    Beyond expectations

The stay exceeded my expectations despite the relatively low accommodation cost during the peak autumn foliage season. I was completely satisfied with the service, facility, and atmosphere. The subtle use of fine furniture created a calming ambiance, enhancing the serene charm of Kyoto beautifully. I now have one more accommodation I would love to stay at again.
