An Accommodation You'll Want to Return To

Highly satisfied.
I had always wanted to stay at this accommodation, so when I saw one room available during the holiday, I immediately made a reservation. I initially planned to go by car, but due to a forecast of a severe cold wave, I decided to take the train instead. After researching online and seeing that there was no shuttle service, I planned to take a taxi from the station. However, by chance, I spotted the accommodation's car. When I asked the driver about it, they mentioned they were there for another guest whose train was delayed but kindly offered me a ride to the accommodation. The next day as well, they gave me a ride back to the station, which was incredibly helpful. Thank you so much for accommodating my request at that time! The onsen in my room, the large public bathhouse, meals, and hospitality were all excellent. Thanks to this experience, I could relax and unwind completely. I also got to visit Tenjo Sajiki and see Kinrin Lake covered in snow along with Yufuin’s snowy scenery for the first time—it was truly breathtaking! This trip reminded me how wonderful traveling by train can be after such a long time since my last visit to Yufuin. I would love to visit again someday! Thank you very much for everything!

The meals were disappointing. Everything else was a lovely Ryokan.
The building is beautiful, the service is attentive, and the furnishings and atmosphere are excellent. I have stayed at various high-end accommodations. As this ryokan is famous in Yufuin, I was looking forward to it. However, both breakfast and dinner were truly disappointing. There was no menu provided, so it was unclear what we were eating. Many dishes had a bland taste, which became tiresome after a while. While small portions can allow you to enjoy the flavor of the broth, this became monotonous quickly. The tempura at the dining area was cold, the sashimi was ordinary, and there was no creativity in presentation. It had been a long time since I felt so let down by both dinner and breakfast. While other facilities and service were excellent and polite, I cannot recommend this ryokan if food is your main focus. The meals did not justify a price close to 200,000 yen at all.

Enjoyed the finest hospitality.
Stayed on the final day of the November long weekend, surrounded by autumn foliage. The accommodation, a historic building from the Taisho era, offered exceptional hospitality that reflected the professionalism and pride of each staff member. Despite being peak season pricing, the cuisine and service exceeded expectations, making it truly worth every penny. Experiencing such an extraordinary space became a lifelong memory. I look forward to enjoying it again at a leisurely pace next time.

Highly Satisfying Accommodation
We stayed at Kamenoi Bessou as a family of four for the first time in 20 years. The design of the room and the autumn foliage in the garden were beautiful, and our children were very happy, which made it a wonderful experience. The dinner was served in the room, so perhaps that's why some hot dishes felt slightly lukewarm, which was a bit disappointing. However, Kamenoi Bessou has many other charms that more than make up for it. We highly recommend experiencing it for yourself!

First-time stay as a couple
The autumn leaves were not yet at their peak, so the timing was slightly disappointing in terms of location. However, I was deeply impressed by the hospitality and service. In a world increasingly focused on efficiency due to labor shortages and rising costs, many services have shifted to minimize customer interaction. Yet, Kamenoi Bessou reminded me of the traditional hospitality of a bygone era, providing a truly relaxing time and space. I hope to stay for two nights on my next visit.

A relaxing accommodation to unwind.
The room was impeccably clean, very quiet, and provided a relaxing atmosphere. While the private open-air bath in the room was great, the open-air bath in the large public bath area was absolutely amazing. I couldn't help but say to myself, "Ah, paradise!" The effects of the onsen left my hair silky smooth the next day. The meals were truly delicious, and I savored each dish. It seems there is a special Kaiseki plan where dishes are served directly by the head chef—I look forward to trying it on my next visit. In the evening, I enjoyed music in the lounge and a drink at BAR Yamaneko. It's wonderful to have so many things to enjoy even after dinner! The bedding was very comfortable, and I slept soundly wearing nightwear that felt as if I wasn’t wearing anything at all. However, I unexpectedly woke up at 6 AM due to Yufuin's town chime—otherwise, I might have slept even longer! Kamenoi Bessou is an excellent accommodation with charming historical architecture complemented by attentive service and enjoyable amenities. The unique historical ambiance of its facilities is something that cannot be replicated elsewhere. We had such a wonderful time relaxing as a couple and enjoying slow moments together—thank you so much for everything! We definitely want to visit this accommodation again soon!

Enjoyed thoroughly.
We stayed in the 5th building with an open-air bath. It was just the two of us, but the spaciousness was overwhelming. The open-air bath was incredibly large—we lost count of how many times we used it! The public bath also had a completely different atmosphere and was equally enjoyable. The highlight was the giant phonograph appreciation session in the lounge. We were amazed by the difference between bamboo and metal needles. Additionally, at Bar Tenjo Sajiki/Yamaneko, we experienced a sound shower from Vitavox Klipschorn speakers, which offered a distinct experience from the phonograph in the lounge—pure bliss. The resonance of Corner York speakers and their impressive SP record collection left us speechless. We returned home deeply moved by this corner of Yufuin's sound paradise.

Birthday Celebration
I used this place to celebrate my mother's birthday. I was deeply impressed by the thoughtful attention to details, such as arranging the size of the yukata, assistance with stairs, handrails and chairs for the private Room bath—things we hadn't even considered. The meals were served warm or cold as appropriate and timed perfectly to match our eating pace. The dishes were also exquisite, which made my mother extremely happy. I am already looking forward to our next visit. Thank you very much!

Kyushu Trip
I visited Yufuin during my trip to Oita and chose this accommodation with a private onsen, as it seemed to match my preferences. The room was clean, had a traditional Japanese style, and was very comfortable. The meals were perfectly portioned and absolutely delicious. I was deeply impressed by the hospitality of the staff and had a wonderful travel experience! I would love to stay here again when I visit Oita in the future.

Adult Time
This was my first visit to Kamenoi Bessou, and I stayed in Building No. 5, which had been renovated into a Western-style room about a year ago. While retaining a traditional Japanese touch, the transformation into a Western-style room was beautifully executed. The highlight was the breathtaking view of the expansive garden through the approximately 4-meter-wide glass window next to the dining table, giving an illusion of being surrounded by a forest. Although it was late August, during the day we could hear cicadas singing in chorus, and as evening approached, Higurashi cicadas began their calls. By 7 PM, silence fell as the cicadas stopped singing—a serene time perfect for enjoying dinner in our room. The meal was exquisite, and we had delightful conversations with the staff member serving us. The open-air bath accessible from the terrace was spacious and impeccable. The interior featured luxurious Scandinavian furniture throughout—every detail reflected top-notch quality and left us thoroughly satisfied with this accommodation. Thank you for your hospitality; this is undoubtedly one of Japan's finest accommodations!

The Prestigious Kamenoi Bessou
It was my first stay at this accommodation. The room and the staff were very sophisticated. For dinner, I was guided to a private room where I enjoyed a delicious kaiseki meal in a special atmosphere while listening to classical music. The speaker's sound quality was excellent, the plates were beautiful, and for a moment, I felt as if I were in the private room of an upscale French restaurant. It was truly a wonderful experience. All five senses were satisfied. On my way back, I already put myself on next year's waiting list, hoping to stay again at Kamenoi Bessou during one of Japan's beautiful seasons. If staying in Japan, it has to be either The Okura Heritage or Kamenoi Bessou.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay again!
This was our return visit after two months. While Tokyo was experiencing a heatwave, Kamenoi Bessou, surrounded by greenery, felt cool and refreshing everywhere. Stepping out onto the bustling tourist street brought us back to the scorching sunlight, though... We were delighted that Ms. I, who had attentively assisted us during our previous stay, took care of us again this time. She remembered our preferences well and ensured that the meals did not overlap with those from our last visit. Even when using similar ingredients, she added variations in presentation—such thoughtful attention to detail! We are truly grateful. We also visited Tenjo Sajiki this time since we missed it before. Not only were the drinks delicious as expected, but we were pleasantly surprised by the high quality of their handmade cakes—a delightful treat for someone with a sweet tooth like me. The massage was done by the same person as last time; they worked skillfully and quietly, enhancing the effects of the Onsen even more. I hope to visit again soon!

Thoughtful hospitality,
This time, we stayed with three adults (one pregnant) and two children. We are very grateful for the thoughtful arrangements before our stay, such as splitting into two rooms (recommending a room with chairs for the pregnant guest) and meals (delicious children's meals and a menu avoiding raw items for the pregnant guest). For dining, we were provided a space with chairs, allowing our family to enjoy meals comfortably together. Despite being in the center of Yufuin, the serene and tranquil atmosphere was incredibly pleasant, helping us refresh once again. Thank you as always!

I want to visit again.
The morning and evening sunlight reflecting on Lake Kinrin is both beautiful and mystical. Kamenoi Bessou perfectly captures the atmosphere of Lake Kinrin, with a well-maintained garden and an interior that is refined, uncluttered, and calming. The meals are delicious, the baths are relaxing, and the staff are kind and attentive. Despite its spacious grounds, you can feel at ease throughout your stay. At the separate Keya shop, there were many carefully crafted souvenirs that can only be found here. I hope to visit again during the misty season or when fresh greenery fills the area.

I want to visit again and again.
I have been staying here for nearly 30 years, sometimes up to three times a year. Although I occasionally stayed at other renowned traditional Ryokans, I always find myself coming back to Kamenoi Bessou as it feels familiar and perfectly meets my needs. This time, the new staff were very kind, and I had a wonderful stay. While everything could have been rated 5 out of 5, I found the soup slightly too salty for my taste. Additionally, the text on the amenity bottles was small; especially with white backgrounds and yellow letters on skincare products, it was hard to read for older guests like me. Hence, I deducted some points. However, my satisfaction level is so high that I'd give it a 10 out of 10 if possible. I look forward to visiting again at the end of the year!

Stayed to celebrate my husband's birthday. Grateful for the elegant ambiance and attentive service.
We stayed for one night to celebrate my husband's birthday. The serene grounds surrounded by nature, the relaxing Onsen, and the BAR Yamaneko... everything was a luxurious experience for adults. The dinner was beautifully presented, and they prepared a celebratory cake for us. However, as it was outsourced, I felt a slight disconnect in quality. Additionally, one of the candles went out quickly, which caught my attention a little. That said, the staff's discreet yet attentive service was truly comforting. Overall, it was an incredibly satisfying stay. Thank you for providing such memorable moments fitting for this milestone birthday!

44th Wedding Anniversary Trip
44 years ago in May, we stayed at Kamenoi Bessou for our honeymoon. This time, it was a trip to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Back then and this time as well, we used a rental car; however, during our first visit, we were busy moving to the next destination and left immediately after check-out. This time, we took our time enjoying Yufuin until early afternoon. We had planned to visit the attached café "Tenjo-Sajiki," the dining spot "Yunotake-an," and the souvenir shop "Kagiya." When we mentioned this during breakfast, they kindly arranged reservations for coffee and lunch for us, allowing us to use our time efficiently. Both the accommodation and each shop offered refined facilities and attentive service that exceeded expectations. The location by Lake Kinrin is also a great advantage—the lake reflecting the setting sun or shrouded in morning mist just before sunrise is absolutely stunning. Looking back at the photos I took, I noticed what seemed like fish with golden scales swimming on the lake surface—perhaps an auspicious sign? While there are still many places domestically and internationally that we'd like to visit, we'd love to stay at Kamenoi Bessou again someday—perhaps for our golden wedding anniversary!

It was the best Hotel.
I love onsen and have been touring the hot springs in Kyushu. After visiting Kumamoto and Kagoshima, I decided to visit Yufuin this time and made a reservation here. The open-air bath was amazing. Meals were served in the dining area. With about four tables, we enjoyed a quiet and relaxing dining experience. Every dish was delicious, and the staff's attentiveness was excellent. When discussing breakfast preferences, I mentioned that I didn’t need sashimi, and they kindly suggested various side dishes to accompany rice, making for a very satisfying breakfast experience. I would definitely like to visit again!
