    My first stay in Mar...

    My first stay in March was wonderful, so this time I returned for two nights in a different season. Unfortunately, it rained again during my stay, but I was very satisfied as each night had a completely different charm: the Japanese-style Room in Building No. 1 on the first night with a view of the spacious garden, and the Western-style Room in Building No. 7 on the second night, which was so large and luxurious it felt like a private villa. On the first night, we enjoyed counter-style Japanese cuisine at Building No. 10. The dishes were outstanding and served at perfect timing while we enjoyed conversation with the head chef and another couple seated with us. When I mentioned that this trip was for our wedding anniversary, they surprised us partway through with celebratory sekihan (red bean rice), which truly moved us. (The other couple also shared that it was the wife’s birthday, so it became a double celebration—thank you very much.) Building No. 7 on the second night was overwhelmingly spacious and lavish—almost too much for just two people. We relaxed at an unhurried pace while enjoying views of a garden that can only be seen from this Room, whether from the large open-air bath or from the bright study surrounded by floor-to-ceiling glass. Not only dinner at the counter but every dish—including breakfast—was carefully prepared and delicious once again. Everyone who assisted us provided warm and pleasant service, making our stay truly enjoyable. I would love to return again in another season. Thank you very much for taking care of us.

    A Reward After a Train Journey

    My trip was mainly to ride a sightseeing train, but since I was going to Yufuin anyway, I chose this Accommodation. It turned out to be the perfect choice! After contacting them in advance, they also provided Shuttle Service to and from the station, and everyone offered wonderfully pleasant hospitality. This is an Accommodation I would want to visit again, even from far away.

    It was the best accommodation in the area.

    Thank you very much for kindly and promptly helping us with a surprise for my wife’s birthday. She was truly delighted. You paid careful attention to every detail throughout the grounds, and we were able to spend an elegant and enjoyable time. The approach to Lake Kinrin had a wonderful atmosphere, it was easy to take walks around the neighborhood, and it was also close to Yufuin’s main street—an excellent location. Just as impressive as the location was the large gramophone. Its warm sound was soothing, and I was also surprised by how heavy the SP record was when I held one for the first time. Thanks to staying here, we now feel like taking a leisurely trip around Oita Prefecture. We would love to visit again when we do.

    Still the best

    This was our third stay. We stayed with three families, including our sons. They kindly provided a large banquet room so we could have dinner together, and we enjoyed a lively, wonderful meal. As always, we were impressed by the heartfelt dishes made with seasonal ingredients. Thanks to the attentive service down to the smallest details, we had a very comfortable stay. As expected of Kamenoi Bessou.

    The food was...

    I stayed last month. The Accommodation’s facilities are excellent. However, the meals are not at all worth the accommodation price (180,000). Perhaps because it is served in the Room, but most of the dishes were almost cold, and the rice at dinner was far too soft and mushy. When I asked, “The rice is quite soft, isn’t it?” I was told, “Yes. We will serve proper rice at breakfast.” The breakfast rice was indeed properly cooked, but... I would like to stay at the Accommodation again, but I would prefer to skip the meals. At a luxury Accommodation, dining is one of the pleasures. I suggest you visit other luxury Accommodations once to see what kind of food they serve. I hope this will be improved by my next stay.

    Baby-friendly Accommodation

    We stayed with our 0-year-old baby. They were very considerate, and since the Room had tatami flooring, it was safe even when our baby was crawling. Meals were served in the Room, so we could relax and enjoy them without worrying about others. We would like to stay again.

    This is the best accommodation.

    I’ve visited so many times over the past several decades that I’ve lost count. When my children were small, our family stayed here often, but recently I’ve discovered how relaxing and enjoyable it is to stay alone in a Western-style room in the main building. Mealtimes can feel a little lonely, but the staff always speak to me in such a natural, thoughtful way. The building, gardens, interior design, and cuisine are all wonderful, of course—but the exceptional quality of the staff truly stands out. This is an Accommodation that leaves me completely satisfied in every way. It’s often difficult to secure a weekend Reservation, so I sometimes stay at other Ryokan that seem comparable, but I always end up coming back here. Thank you as always—I look forward to returning!

    On my first trip to Yufuin (Oita), there were so many Ryokan I wanted to stay at that I couldn’t decide. So I asked Copilot (AI), “Which Ryokan do you recommend in Yufuin?” and chose from the suggestions. I’ve stayed at Ryokan and Hotels with wonderful staff before, but this was the first Accommodation where I felt every single staff member was outstanding. The meals and the open-air style bath in the Room were also excellent. Before dinner, I enjoyed a drink at BAR Yamaneko, then had dinner, and afterward attended a music listening session in the lounge—spending time in such a great atmosphere left me very satisfied. It’s not an easy distance to travel, but if I ever visit Yufuin again, this is a Ryokan I would love to return to. I’d like to try dining at Jūbankan.

    A wonderful Ryokan.

    I visited Yufuin with five friends who came from far away, and choosing Kamenoi Bessou was truly the best decision. We were deeply impressed by the beautiful garden, delicious cuisine, and the warm hospitality of the staff. Thank you very much.     Premium Accommodation

    Step off the bustling street filled with international visitors, cross a small bridge, and pass through the gate—suddenly you are in another world. Walk through a garden wrapped in fresh greenery and enter the lobby, where the quiet deepens and you are welcomed with gentle warmth. The detached villa with an open-air bath is wonderfully comfortable, and the service, cuisine, and Onsen are beyond reproach—nothing more could be wished for. The garden view from the Room is beautiful; taking a stroll and sitting on a bench in the courtyard feels so pleasant you may lose track of time. Next time, I would love to return to enjoy the autumn foliage.

    An Accommodation you’ll want to return to

    I was truly impressed by your gracious hospitality and thoughtful service. Your attention to ingredients and tableware was evident, and the carefully prepared dishes were absolutely delicious. The beautifully maintained garden and Room were very relaxing, the air conditioning was just right, and for the first time in a while I slept deeply through the night. The hot spring water quality was excellent, and the Ohagi from Kagiya was also wonderful. Enjoying morning coffee in the courtyard during the fresh green season was a truly happy moment. It’s rare to find an Accommodation this flawless, isn’t it? This is an Accommodation I especially want hardworking people to stay at. It helped me recover from fatigue and made me feel ready to do my best again starting tomorrow. Thank you very much for your wonderful service.

    I had planned to stay for two nights, but due to personal circumstances I was unable to do so.

    I made a Reservation for two nights to relax, but on the first night I developed a fever and the staff kindly referred me to a hospital. I had to Cancel the Reservation for the second night at short notice. Under the cancellation policy, I paid for the second night. The kaiseki meal was, of course, wonderful, and I am grateful that they helped find a hospital late at night. I wanted to have hot pot on the second day, but that wish did not come true. Because I changed my schedule suddenly, it affected my trip home. That was due to my personal circumstances, but the limited express train to Hakata was fully booked, and I somehow managed to get home via Oita. The town also felt noisy due to inbound tourism. After that, when I made multiple Reservations for the autumn foliage season, they called me. It seemed they were unsure about booking multiple dates even though it was possible. I then canceled everything immediately. I will not go back to Yufuin. It was an unforgettable event in my life history.

    An Accommodation where you’ll want to stay for two nights

    I stayed at Hyakubankan. One night wasn’t enough. Checkout time came in the blink of an eye. The Room bath has free-flowing hot spring water. The meals were outstanding… eel, soba, steak, and sashimi. Even the rice—everything was delicious. I chose a Japanese breakfast as well, and everything from the warm vegetables to the pickles was excellent. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Here are some other points I found wonderful: Towels and bottled water are provided in the large public bath as well In addition to yukata, there are also loungewear sets All-inclusive drinks The ice I requested was cracked ice and didn’t melt until morning This is an Accommodation I definitely want to visit again. I’d like to try staying in other Rooms too.

    It was a wonderful experience, with thoughtful attention to every detail.

    They called us a week before our stay and carefully asked about our preferences. They also took the time to confirm details that couldn’t be fully conveyed through the online form, and on the day they assisted us politely as promised. We stayed in Annex Building No. 11, which was spacious and allowed us to enjoy a truly luxurious time. It was quiet, the garden was beautifully maintained, and every staff member provided outstanding hospitality. The other guests were also calm and considerate—including families with children—so we could relax with complete peace of mind.

    During Golden Week in Yufuin, narrow roads were blocked by cars waiting for parking spaces, but the Kamenoi staff actually came out of their way to direct traffic. I was truly impressed—they went above and beyond. When we arrived at the Ryokan, a restaurant staff member said, “Welcome back! Has it been five years?”—I was surprised again. As expected! With a beautiful garden and delicious meals, it was a truly wonderful one-night stay. It had been hard to find availability, but perhaps there was a cancellation—I was lucky to spot an opening online. Next time, I’d like to visit outside of Golden Week.

    This Accommodation offered a unique experience you won’t easily find elsewhere.

    I had been wanting to stay at Kamenoi Bessou for a long time, and I finally had the chance this trip. Although it’s near Lake Kinrin and the area is busy with tourists, the moment we stepped into the Ryokan, all the bustle faded away—it felt like entering a completely different world. Every staff member provided outstanding service and showed thoughtful attention to even the smallest details. For dinner, we chose the garden counter kappo. The dishes were not only delicious but also beautifully presented, and even though I don’t have a big appetite, I was able to finish everything. The final dish was bamboo shoot takikomi rice, and it was the most refined flavor I’ve ever tasted in my life. The couple seated on both sides of us were also wonderful people, and it seemed they return to this Accommodation regularly. They told us—first-time guests—that the breakfast bread is especially good. I usually choose Japanese breakfast in the morning, but following their recommendation, we ordered one Western-style and one Japanese-style breakfast and shared them between us. And yes—the bread really was excellent. From around 9:00 p.m., there was a one-hour classical record listening session in the lounge. The harmony of crackling firewood from the fireplace and music playing from records felt like something you could only experience at this Accommodation. Of course there was an Onsen as well, but this place offered so much more than that alone. When I visit Yufuin again, I would love to stay here again.

    An Accommodation that soothes both body and mind

    Thank you very much for taking such wonderful care of us. Although it rained during our stay, the fresh greenery in the beautifully maintained garden looked stunning in the rain, and seeing petals floating on the rainwater was truly soothing. The meals were so delicious that I wanted to give them a star rating. Everyone who looked after us felt like executive staff—absolutely outstanding. It was a trip that healed both body and mind. I’m hoping to visit again in autumn.

    It was very relaxing.

    This is the Accommodation I had dreamed of since my early 20s, right after starting my career. A quiet space where you can’t feel any of the city’s bustle. Soft classical music, the crackle of the fireplace, a large gramophone and coffee in the lounge—everything was soothing. The meals were delicious as well, and the soba noodles were especially outstanding—I only wished I could have had a little more. The staff also provided warm and pleasant hospitality. I would love to visit again.

    Everything is excellent.

    The location is outstanding, yet once you step onto the property it becomes surprisingly quiet, like entering a different world. I stayed on both rainy and sunny days, and both were wonderful—the mossy garden glistening in the rain was beautiful, and the coffee I enjoyed in the sunlit garden was unforgettable. I’m very glad I was able to stay for two nights. The food was delicious, and there was nothing to fault about the Room, amenities, or service. I’ll be back.

    A renowned Ryokan you’ll want to visit again

    We planned our first trip as a couple for six months and decided to visit Yufuin, a place we both had long wanted to see. Since it was a special occasion, we stayed at all three Ryokan known as the “Yufuin Big Three.” ・Room: The welcome tea served upon arrival was delicious. Beautiful flowers were arranged in a large vase, and tasteful floral touches were placed throughout the property. Everything was spotless, and the amenities were excellent. The bed was very comfortable, and we appreciated having pajamas in addition to yukata. The pajamas were so comfortable that we bought them as souvenirs. It would have been even better if more yukata sizes were available. ・Baths: The Room had both an indoor bath and an open-air bath. The indoor bath (washing area and tub) was very clean. Bathrobes and towels were thick, soft, and provided in generous quantities. The only disappointment was the open-air bath: there was black cloudy debris floating on the surface, so I couldn’t use it. When I mentioned it to staff, they said, “It probably happened because it rained and Onsen minerals washed in,” without checking the actual condition. The next morning I told the breakfast attendant about it; then someone from the front desk came and took time to clean it thoroughly. I wish this had been addressed the day before. The public bath was spacious, clean, and very relaxing. Recently more Ryokan offer only in-room baths without a public bath, but having a public bath is still something we really appreciate. ・Dining: For dinner we chose a course where the head chef cooks right in front of you at the counter. Besides us there was one other party; we ended up chatting with them and had a wonderful time together. Every dish served was outstanding. Watching the chef’s technique up close and being able to talk with him made it an especially memorable experience. Breakfast was also plentiful. ・Lounge: There is a gramophone with large speakers where you can listen to rare SP records while enjoying coffee by the fireplace. Staff explained how it works, and you can request songs as well—even ones not on their request list—which made for such an enjoyable time. ・Bar: We reserved seats in advance. The bartender was friendly, and the cocktails were exceptional—truly delicious! At one point we got lost on our way there; when we asked a staff member passing by for directions, they even brought an umbrella and personally guided us to the bar. ・Gift shop: A well-stocked souvenir shop with great taste—we enjoyed browsing so much that this alone felt worth visiting. If not for what happened with the baths early on, this would have been five stars for us overall. We’d love to visit Yufuin again—next time to stay at Kamenoi Bessou as well.”

    I was very satisfied, but it would be perfect if a few improvements could be made.

    I was extremely satisfied in almost every way, especially with the hospitality, which matters most. Regarding my Reservation, you called me a week in advance to point out my mistake, and it was resolved without any issues. Also, at many Ryokan there’s often nowhere to go and nothing to do after dinner, so you end up staying in your Room—but here there were small events and a wonderful bar (thank you to the two bartenders for staying late), so we had a great time (we were short on sleep, but that was part of the fun). The only thing I felt was that while every dinner dish was delicious, it lacked a bit of impact. For example, it would be even better if at least the main course felt more extraordinary (in presentation or staging). Also, since this is a mountainous area, I don’t think standard sashimi is necessary; we had some seafood prepared with extra care beforehand, and that felt sufficient. It’s far away so I can’t visit easily, but I would definitely like to come again.

    This is probably the most famous Accommodation in Yufuin, and it was my first stay. Arriving early in cold rain, they opened the lounge with its impressive fireplace so we could take shelter. Our Room was a very spacious Western-style room with a beautiful garden view. With the doors opened, it becomes one continuous space all the way to the bedroom. However, the lighting throughout is quite dim—comfortable for relaxing, but I would have liked it a bit brighter for reading. The in-room bath, including the open-air bath, was an Onsen and felt wonderful for a long, relaxing soak. The large public bath features a bright indoor bath with an impressive glass roof shaped like a great tree spreading its branches, as well as an open-air bath. Every meal was carefully prepared, plentiful, and delicious. The Facility grounds are laid out with wide gardens lined with single-story rooms, the large public bath, and lounges, connected to a souvenir shop and a café that becomes a bar at night—I almost got lost. Normally you can see Mt. Yufu from the property, but unfortunately we couldn’t due to the rain. The staff service was attentive throughout, and we had a very pleasant stay. It’s an Accommodation where I’d like to return for a Multiple Night Stay next time and truly unwind.

    Because it is locate...

    Because it is located right next to Lake Kinrin, reaching it by rental car through the crowds was quite a challenge. However, once inside, I was surprised by the complete tranquility—so different from the bustle outside. It was a truly comfortable space where you could hear birds singing and carp splashing in the pond. The courtyard is also spacious, and it feels wonderful to sit on a bench and gaze at Mt. Yufu. I could only admire how impressive it is to own such vast grounds right in the heart of Yufuin’s main sightseeing area. It has become rare these days to see several guests lined up at an Accommodation entrance at check-in time. The kind of hospitality unique to a Ryokan—often streamlined away with changing times—still remains here firmly and naturally, which was truly wonderful. The Facility offerings were also excellent: a large public bath available 24 hours a day, and a lounge where you can enjoy coffee. Experiencing the gramophone in the lounge was also something special. Recently, more Accommodations have started charging over 100,000 yen per night, but it feels like it has been a long time since I found one that I genuinely thought was outstanding. I hope Kamenoi Bessou will remain just as it is when I visit again.

    The Most Relaxing Ryokan

    The staff’s thoughtful hospitality was wonderful, and the Facility, cleanliness, and amenities never made it feel like an old, long-established Ryokan. I visited in winter, and the floor heating kept everything warm; throughout the property I could really feel how well they consider their guests. I can see why it has been loved for so long. The air felt fresh, and the garden and baths were also excellent. It was a comfortable, relaxing space. Above all, the meals were exceptionally delicious—better than at any other Ryokan. The gift shop sells items used at the Ryokan, so I ended up buying far more than planned because both the amenities and food products were great. In particular, I loved the pajama fabric and bought a set. The breakfast tea was also delicious, and you can purchase that as well—being able to buy their original items was a nice touch. It was my first visit, but I would definitely like to stay again.
