    Take it easy.

    I’ve stayed here several times, and the meals are always delicious. The surrounding scenery is soothing, and the Hotel Facilities are comfortable. It truly deserves full marks; this review reflects my hope that it will become even better. The rates are reasonable as well. Thank you to all the staff.

    Relax and Recharge

    It was a wonderful Hotel. At check-in, the entrance was separate from the main building, and there was no staff at the front desk at first, which confused me for a moment. However, the Room was spacious with lovely furniture, the bath was relaxing, and everything was thoroughly cleaned, so we had a very comfortable stay. Having fewer staff did not bother us at all. The meals were also served at the main building buffet; there were many options and everything was delicious. We were able to refresh and really enjoyed it. The Room felt almost too large for just two people. We would love to stay again.

    It was fun, but...

    The food was delicious and we enjoyed it, but... the open-air-style bath in the main building was closed, which was disappointing. The food was also very good, but... the Kozuyu we were looking forward to wasn’t available, which was very disappointing.

    I’m completely satisfied again!

    The Onsen at Nijinomori Onsen was wonderful. The open-air bath, indoor bath, sauna, and cold-water bath were all at just the right temperature, and we enjoyed them very much. It was quiet and relaxing. Dinner was French cuisine and also excellent—delicious fish and meat, and the bread was so good we had seconds. Breakfast was Japanese-style and very enjoyable as well. The property was very clean throughout, the Room was easy to use, and we had a great time.

    Golden Week

    During our stay, there were many families. The Aurora-no-Yu bath in the main building was crowded, including day-use guests, but Nekoma Rikyu was not as busy as expected, so we were able to relax and unwind at a leisurely pace.

    Large-scale yet quiet

    Although it was a large Hotel, I was able to spend my time quietly. Dinner was also a set course meal, and I enjoyed it in a relaxed atmosphere. One small concern was that a foreign staff member explained the facilities in fluent Japanese, but it felt a bit impersonal, and I would have appreciated a smile.

    Meals are served buffet-style.

    I stayed at Urabandai Lake Resort, Guest House Nekoma Rikyu. Because meals had to be taken in the main building using the buffet, I was able to stay at a very reasonable rate. The food wasn’t bad, but there was no calm atmosphere. Since we were together with group guests, many people were constantly moving around and passing right beside our table, so it didn’t feel like a relaxing meal. Perhaps because there was an all-you-can-drink option, there were also many drunk guests, and clattering noises could be heard everywhere. The baths were excellent—I could use both the bath exclusively for Nekoma Rikyu guests and the baths in the main building, which I was very satisfied with. There was also a coffee maker and tea bags in the Room, and on the first-floor lounge there were drinks such as coffee and tea available; I could make both hot and iced drinks, so depending on my mood I also enjoyed fruit iced tea. Because I booked through IKYU’s site, there was a complimentary full bottle of red wine as well, making it a very good-value stay.

    Thank you for taking care of us with the Senior Plan.

    A gorgeous entrance, and the Room was just as impressive. The Onsen was spacious, and the open-air bath overlooking Lake Hibara was wonderful. Dinner French cuisine was served at a great pace, and we enjoyed it very much. At breakfast, it seemed other tables received explanations of the ingredients, but we did not. That was the only negative point. Still, it was a relaxing stay. Thank you very much. Next time, we’ll visit with our family.

    We had a wonderful time.

    We decided to upgrade and chose a spacious top-floor Room. The furnishings were calm and tasteful, allowing us to relax and enjoy a luxurious stay. The meals were delicious as well, and it’s an Accommodation we’d love to visit again.

    A Hotel where you can enjoy a relaxing moment

    From the warm welcome at the front desk onward, the staff were very kind and helpful. The shop staff and other team members were also attentive, and the service was excellent. The lobby was lovely, and there were artworks displayed in the rooms and hallways, with a gallery on site as well—making it a relaxing place to unwind.

    Thank you as always ...

    Thank you as always for your hospitality. No matter when I visit, I can relax comfortably in the spacious Room with a large sofa. Although the weather was not great this time, I was very satisfied to enjoy delicious coffee in a wonderful Room with a view of the lake. The French meal was also excellent, and the atmosphere and service were very good. Niji no Mori Onsen is never too crowded, and it is always clean and pleasant. I have one request: I understand that the lake can be seen from the men’s bath at Niji no Mori Onsen, so I would be happy if you could consider rotating access between men and women.

    Anniversary trip for a couple

    Thanks to the attentive service and thoughtful hospitality, we were able to relax and enjoy a comfortable stay. The guest room was spacious and open, making it very pleasant. The meals, carefully prepared with seasonal ingredients, were truly delicious.

    Always very satisfied (though I have two requests).

    On our previous visit, my husband stayed for a two-night Multiple Night Stay and enjoyed the buffet on his own. This time, as usual, we came as a couple and enjoyed the meals (classic French) and the Onsen. We are always completely satisfied, and about a month after returning home we already want to come back again. Since hiking is our shared hobby, in winter we enjoy snowshoeing on flat terrain or smaller mountains. This time we walked to Nakase Observatory by Lake Hibara and along the snow-covered boardwalk to Oguni Marsh (the Oguni Seseragi Nature Trail). First request: According to my wife, there are ladybugs and stink bugs in the women’s bath at “Niji no Mori Onsen” on the Nekoma Rikyu side. She says this has been the case for quite some time (over a year). Specifically, she saw around 10 ladybugs and several stink bugs along the lower edge of the large glass window beneath the indoor bath where you can see outside. Again, she says this situation has been observed for more than a year. This time it wasn’t just that insects were lined up along the edge—she also found one ladybug floating in that indoor bath, and she accidentally stepped on a stink bug on the floor. Because we hike often, seeing stink bugs doesn’t really bother us much. For example, there is a large unmanned hut-like building called Oguni Marsh Rest House where huge numbers of stink bugs get inside during their active season; even when you go in winter it still smells strongly of them—but we still take breaks there and eat trail snacks (laugh). So my wife only said something like “They were there again,” and didn’t seem particularly uncomfortable. Of course, I assume your Facility is already aware of this situation and has taken measures, but that complete eradication may be difficult. Still, what should be made of insects—especially stink bugs—settling in during midwinter? Since they aren’t seen in the men’s bath (and I’ve never seen them at other Onsen facilities either), I feel it should be possible to eliminate them completely. Second request: I (the husband) use an extra-large yukata robe. Because our Room is warm, I sometimes sweat overnight; after morning bathing I’d like to change into a fresh yukata robe, so I go to look at the yukata area in the main building lobby—but for some reason only extra-large sizes are not available there. This was true both last time and this time as well. If there isn’t an extra-large size available I’ll use large instead, but would it be possible to stock extra-large sizes too? Please consider it if you can. In any case, we are always very satisfied and will continue coming back—but when small concerns happen repeatedly over multiple visits, it makes us want to mention them as well.     Family stay to celebrate my parents’ diamond wedding anniversary

    This time, our family stayed in three Rooms. The Rooms were spacious, and a humidifier was provided in each Room, so we were able to spend a very comfortable and elegant time. There were no USB charging ports in the Room, but we had brought chargers just in case, so it wasn’t an issue. For meals, we had dinner at the French restaurant with classic French cuisine, and my parents were also served a special dessert plate. Breakfast was also at the same restaurant; we enjoyed a relaxed and delicious morning meal. The large public bath was a bit far away, and during this season we had to walk through a cold corridor; some snow had blown onto parts of the walkway, making it slippery. It was difficult for my elderly parents to walk there. However, the calm and spacious bath had wonderfully silky water quality, and since it was uncrowded we could use it comfortably like a private bath without any concern for others. All staff greeted us with smiles, which felt very pleasant. With the Diamond member benefits—an in-house voucher worth 1,000 yen per person and late check-out until 13:00—plus one complimentary full bottle of wine per group, overall it was an excellent value stay and our whole family was very satisfied. Next time, we would definitely like to stay again during a warmer season.

    When a large number ...

    When a large number of foreign tour groups came in one after another, it became extremely noisy—especially at the buffet. They probably wanted to take a lot at once, but some grabbed food directly with their hands. When I hesitated for just about five seconds before using the tongs, a foreign guest behind me pointed and gestured for me to put the tongs down, along with other issues. Since there are days when we can’t eat that much due to our daytime schedule, I regretted choosing the buffet every day. Both open-air baths were temporarily closed as well, which was the most disappointing part. Was this meant as an apology? There was no explanation, but we were given a bottle of wine and in-house coupons. The Facility itself was wonderful. Has it become a calmer environment now? If so, I would like to visit again and relax.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    The lobby, restaurant, Onsen, and the entire property all had a calm, spacious atmosphere, and we were able to relax in an elegant setting. There wasn’t any pushy service or flashy luxury, but both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and we felt the care and attention in many details. The bath area was quiet with a lovely ambiance. The driver’s guidance on the return Shuttle Service was also kind and enjoyable. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    I had a relaxing time.

    The view was excellent, and the snowy scenery from the open-air bath was amazing. The facility was spacious and relaxing, which was great. The shuttle service was very helpful. Considering the price, I think the meals, facilities, and services offer incredible value for money. I would love to visit every year!

    Makes you want to visit again.

    The colder weather made me long for the sauna and onsen at Nekoma Rikyuu, leading to what is probably my third stay this year. After checking in, I headed straight to Niji no Mori Onsen, completed 10 sauna sessions, and ended up staying there for three hours. Later that night, before bed, and again the next morning—altogether three visits—I enjoyed the forest views from the open-air bath during each time of day. For meals, I had been choosing buffets during recent stays but opted for French cuisine this time after a while. Though it was casual French dining, it felt slightly different from before. I’m not a gourmet who can discuss French cuisine in depth; however, each course was unpretentious yet well-crafted. In particular, regarding the filet steak: previously I found it "large but lacking refinement" and thought arrogantly that "filet isn’t that tasty; could they switch to sirloin? Probably not." This time though, the portion size was just right and paired excellently with its sauce—it was delicious. Before arriving at the accommodation, we visited Komine Castle in Shirakawa. Coincidentally on NHK’s historical drama “Beranmei,” Matsudaira Sadanobu had just resigned as senior councilor (Rōjū) and returned to Shirakawa around this point in history. Although Komine Castle’s main keep is relatively small compared to others’, its dignified appearance reminded me of actor Yuki Inoue's portrayal of Sadanobu—it was fascinating. Additionally—and something I learned for the first time—the castle's stone walls were damaged during the Great East Japan Earthquake but have since been restored. Near Nekoma Rikyuu itself lies Goshikinuma walking trail where about 5 cm of snow had accumulated; we strolled through its serene beauty. All in all—a fulfilling trip once again! Fukushima Prefecture’s Urabandai area with Nekoma Rikyuu never gets old no matter how many times we visit—we always want to return! It remains one of our few indulgences as a couple.

    I was very satisfied. The female staff at the front desk, keep up the good work! The French cuisine was delicious. However, the explanation from a younger staff member was hard to hear due to their low voice; perhaps this is part of their training?

    We recommend the French course.

    Stayed on the 5th floor of Nekoma Palace. It is slightly separated from the main building, offering a very calm atmosphere. The room was spacious with a great view of Lake Hibara, leaving an impression of high quality. The Onsen with free-flowing hot spring water had excellent water quality. For meals, we chose a French course, and every dish from appetizers to fish, meat, and dessert was truly delicious; even my wife (who usually dislikes French cuisine) finished everything. This Hotel is highly recommended for those who want to enjoy Onsen and meals at a leisurely pace. Additionally, the shuttle service driver from Inawashiro provided just the right amount of guiding commentary, which was very pleasant.

    The meals and Onsen were excellent!

    Stayed for one night on November 22. The Facility and Onsen were great, and the meals were especially excellent. However, a few things caught my attention: 1. The woman who guided me to the Room during check-in spoke casually at times, which was surprising. 2. The Room was very nice, but the walls felt thin, and I could hear conversations and water-related noises, which was slightly uncomfortable. 3. Although not the Hotel's fault, due to bear activity, I avoided exploring Goshikinuma ponds. Additionally, most shops around the Hotel were closed for winter break in early November, leaving limited options for sightseeing or activities nearby. However, the autumn leaves were beautiful!

    Enjoy Urabandai to the Fullest

    Stayed here during a trip to Aizu. Shuttle bus service from the station makes access convenient. Regretted not researching Mount Bandai beforehand—it's a stunning area with many beautiful lakes. I heard you can enjoy smelt fishing in winter. The hotel is located by the lake, offering relaxing views from the open-air Onsen. The main building has a large bath, while the annex features a smaller one. Depending on the time, the annex felt quieter and more relaxing for bathing. The room had stylish sofas and charming decor, though there was a slight sewage smell in the toilet—perhaps due to summer conditions, which seemed unavoidable. Meals were served buffet-style with local vegetables, regional dishes, and unique options like chef-recommended curry. Although I stayed only one night, it’s definitely a Hotel where you’d want to spend two nights for a more leisurely experience!

    We enjoyed it—it was delicious.

    This was our third visit, looking forward to the baths and the meals. The French cuisine is always delicious, and although the autumn leaves were almost gone, we were able to enjoy the quiet atmosphere of late autumn. We visit every year in autumn, but next time we would like to come in a different season.

    Calm and relaxing atmosphere

    The previous day, we stayed at a lake resort, but the atmosphere here is different, and we elderly guests preferred the Western cuisine at this accommodation. I am not fond of bread, so I appreciated always being able to have rice. The view from the "Autumn Leaves" room was also wonderful. We enjoyed the large public bath as well.

    It was raining, but I had a relaxing time.

    It might be because it was a weekday or because I was alone, but I could only choose the buffet Plan. The distance from the Room mentioned in the notice wasn't an issue as it was all indoor walking, and there were shops and art displays along the way. However, the restaurant felt hectic, and the food was average. Next time, I'd like to try the French course. On a positive note, there was a coffee machine in my Room, allowing me to relax comfortably. However, even though it was on a corner and labeled as a penthouse, its height wasn't significant enough to offer great views due to tall trees blocking much of it. The Onsen exclusive for villa guests was excellent; however, the outdoor bath was closed due to bear sightings. I would like to visit again while keeping these points in mind.

    Amazing Buffet

    Stayed at Nekoma Rikyuu. The women's open-air onsen at the adjacent Urabandai Lake Resort offers a more beautiful view. While the entrance of Nekoma Rikyuu is stunning, I was told over the phone that the penthouse had a great view, but it was far from impressive. A guest I met in the onsen staying at the adjacent Lake Resort showed me their room, which had a much better view than Nekoma Rikyuu's penthouse! Having stayed in hotels domestically and internationally about 100 days a year, I found it disappointing that for nearly 30,000 yen per night, the quality of the dinner buffet was shockingly low. To management: perhaps you should personally pay to stay at Nekoma Rikyuu and try experiencing its buffet yourselves?

    The quality of the French restaurant is somewhat lacking.

    I enjoyed the premium French cuisine at Nekoma Rikyuu and ordered a bottle of wine to pair with the meal. However, it was the first time I experienced a restaurant where guests had to pour their own wine when the glass was empty. Despite the luxurious Facility, I felt disappointed as I poured the wine myself while staff, who seemed to have free time, stood idly by. It left me with a sense of emptiness.

    Delicious meals

    We stayed for two nights and chose premium French cuisine for dinner, which was delicious on both days. The restaurant's atmosphere was wonderful, and we were very satisfied. The Onsen was also excellent.
