    Wonderful Hotel

The road to get there was long, and I was worried there might not be a Hotel in such a place, but it was so wonderful—service and everything else were excellent. I would like to visit again.

I was satisfied with my stay again.

This is my wife’s favorite resort, and this was our third Multiple Night Stay of the year, following visits in June and July. This time there was a minor issue with some in-Room equipment, and we changed Rooms, but it was handled appropriately. The staff service, Onsen, and meals were all consistently high quality, allowing us to relax throughout our stay. In particular, the meals seem to be managed based on stay history, with menus arranged so they didn’t overlap with our previous two visits—an appreciated touch. As I mention almost every time: there is a dress code for dining, and loungewear and slippers are not allowed. However, since this is a resort where guests come to unwind, it may be nice to allow loungewear so guests can dine more comfortably. That said, the current loungewear is yukata only, which may not suit Western-style dining. I would appreciate it if you could consider introducing separate top-and-bottom indoor wear as well.

    This trip was both o...

This trip was both our summer getaway and a birthday celebration. It was our first time in Aizu, and we stayed at Urabandai Lake Resort, Geihinkan Nekoma Rikyu. The bath exclusively for guests of Geihinkan Nekoma Rikyu included an open-air bath, wasn’t crowded, and allowed us to relax and fully enjoy the Onsen. The meals at the French restaurant were not buffet-style for either dinner or breakfast, so we could take our time, and everything was delicious. We were able to truly enjoy an extraordinary escape. Being able to stay quietly throughout the Hotel, including the bathing area, was truly wonderful. There was no noisy atmosphere—perfect for an adult Hotel stay. If I had one comment… the signal in our Room was weak and we couldn’t use our phones. I would be happy if this could be improved. Unfortunately it rained the next day, so we’d like to visit again on a nice sunny day. Thank you very much for celebrating my birthday as well.

    It was good.

We came all the way to Urabandai for a workcation combined with our child’s outing. The Room was clean and spacious. The sofa was a bit firm and comfortable to sit on. The bed was also firm enough that my back didn’t hurt. There was plenty of space even with a 1-year-old Child Sharing Existing Bedding. The in-room bath made it easy to bathe our child without stress, and there were no noticeable stains or dirt. The Wi-Fi worked properly, which made it easy to work. Since it wasn’t crowded, the lounge was also a great place to work while having coffee. Weekdays in summer are the best because it’s so quiet—you hardly pass anyone at all. The large public bath may depend on the time of day, but there were only about two other people besides me. No waiting for a washing station or for a hair dryer. Best of all, you don’t need to bring towels from your Room. For a workcation, I highly recommend it as you can also refresh your mood in this environment. As for coming with children, since it was quiet we could explore inside the building, which was nice. However, because bears may appear, we couldn’t feel safe taking walks around the lake area. If you’re visiting in summer with small children, I think you should carefully consider what you’ll do during your stay. Regarding meals, breakfast and dinner might be better at the French restaurant. Personally, I found the buffet’s taste and noisy atmosphere somewhat disappointing. On the other hand, with small children it feels reassuring because even if they make some noise it doesn’t bother others as much. It’s not easy to casually go out to eat; restaurants around Lake Inawashiro are far away—plan on about 40–50 minutes one way. For a workcation stay, figuring out lunch remains an issue. The staff were kind and pleasant. However, please don’t have only one person handling checkout—I waited 15 minutes just to pay things like the Hot Spring Tax. This isn’t an individual staff issue but rather staffing allocation.

More than worth the price! A favorite Hotel

Last year, I happened to find this Accommodation on IKYU and stayed here. At the time, I chose a Plan that was discounted because the dining venue was said to be far away, but it wasn’t that far at all. I enjoyed plenty of local vegetables—especially the asparagus tempura, which was delicious. There was also a great selection of sushi. After learning they offer a French course, this time I booked the Special French course. I honestly wondered if the price was really okay for what we received—it was an outstanding French course and absolutely delicious! All of the staff were very pleasant as well. By chance, I had a great conversation with a handsome staff member from Hachinohe about Hirosaki, and it made for a wonderful dinner time. The Room was also thoroughly cleaned, and I had a very comfortable stay. Just one disappointment… When I went to the restaurant for breakfast, water and salad were already on the table, and the salad had wilted. The fruit served as the final dessert also felt like it had been cut some time earlier. The omelet was perfectly soft and runny inside, and I enjoyed it very much. I’ve already made a Reservation for October in the penthouse and am looking forward to it. It takes three hours from my home to Nekoma Rikyu—if it were closer, I’d visit once a month!!

    A very relaxing Hotel

We stayed for one night and two days. We previously stayed at Goshiki no Mori and found it to be a Hotel with a wonderful location, so this was our second stay. The Onsen, meals, and Room were all very relaxing, and it was great that it’s so close for walking around Goshikinuma. However, perhaps because this summer has been so hot, we wished the Room air conditioner could be set to a lower temperature. It was a bit too warm at night to sleep well. It’s a wonderful Hotel, so we would like to stay again. Thank you very much.

I was able to relax, but…

We were upgraded to a larger Room, but the shower was not working properly and was difficult to use. After arriving at the Hotel, we had to wait quite a long time at check-in. When I spoke to the front desk staff with a question, they could hear me but responded slowly, which was a bit frustrating. As for the French dinner and breakfast we were most looking forward to, we were satisfied again this year.

    Luxurious and wonderful

The building, front desk, and Room are luxurious and wonderful. The main building’s front desk is in the center of the building’s main entrance, so we mistakenly went there first; be aware that you may need to drive over to the Annex front desk on the far left. The open-air bath in the main building might be better since it has a lake view. The buffet was great, but next time I’d like to enjoy a full-course meal for a more indulgent stay. This is a Hotel I’d definitely like to visit again.

    Very good.

The Room’s furnishings, size, and cleanliness were all excellent. The meals were classic French cuisine, and we were very satisfied with the service as well. We would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

It’s a shame the sauna went to waste.

The other day, my wife and I stayed at Nekoma Rikyu mainly for the sauna. This was our second visit; the first was before COVID. The private sauna is around 85°C near the ceiling, so it feels a bit mild, but the cold bath is about 16°C, which is just right. However, it was disappointing that there were still no relaxation chairs or recliners—something I requested in a Review during our previous stay as well. There’s space to the left when you step outside; couldn’t they at least place two chairs there? It really lowers what could be an excellent sauna experience. I even saw some guests sitting in the changing room to cool down before going back in, which is unfortunate. I ended up lying on the edge of the tub instead. Also, even though check-out is at 11:00 a.m., why can’t we use the sauna in the morning? I asked for this last time too, but nothing has changed. We had two incidents where bears appeared in the garden and fireworks were set off three times to scare them away—this is truly a natural environment where bears are close by. My wife even spotted a bear cub from the lobby! The buffet offers many items, but the quality is standard. Next time, I’d like to make a Reservation for French dining. That said, it’s excellent value for money, so I recommend it for guests who don’t plan to use the sauna much.

As always, it was a comfortable stay, but...

During my stay, I slipped and fell in the bathroom, hitting my face hard and was unable to get up on my own for a while. Fortunately, someone who was there contacted the front desk, and two Hotel staff members came to assist. My face—especially around my eyes—became badly swollen and bruised. After returning home, an eye examination confirmed there was no damage to my eyeball, which was a relief. I am sharing this as a cautionary note so that everyone will take extra care.

Hotel on the Last Day of Your Tohoku Trip

We chose this Hotel for the final day of our Tohoku trip through Yamagata, Akita, Aomori, Iwate, and Fukushima. The Onsen and meals were excellent, and we were able to relax comfortably in a top-floor Room. In the cool weather, we enjoyed our summer vacation to the fullest by taking a walk around Goshikinuma Pond.

We had a very satisfying stay.

This was my third stay, following last year, with visits in June and July this year. With the cool highland climate, I have also made a Reservation for next month. The room was thoroughly cleaned and very tidy, so I had a comfortable stay. The staff’s service was generally excellent, though a few seemed to have some difficulty understanding Japanese. The Onsen private bath was clean and relaxing, and I was very satisfied. The food quality was high, with great ingredients prepared deliciously. It seems they had my previous stay on record from last month, and they thoughtfully ensured the menu did not overlap—an attentive touch that made me very happy. The portion sizes were just right, though younger guests might find them a bit small. One suggestion: the dress code at meals is smart casual, but as this is a Resort Hotel, it may be nice to allow dining in loungewear so guests can relax. Some airlines provide pajamas in first or business class on long-haul flights to help passengers enjoy meals comfortably. I would appreciate it if you could consider this. Overall, it was a very satisfying stay.

    A calm atmosphere

I stay here a few times a year and always enjoy the calm, relaxing atmosphere. The Western-style meals are delicious, and the large public bath includes a continuously flowing barrel bath with pleasantly acidic water that feels wonderful after bathing. I’d love to visit again during the autumn foliage season.

I was very happy to stay here. The property is nice, and the staff are helpful. Everything was great. I was also happy with the fine dining and the breakfast. I will choose this hotel again if I travel to the area.

    It was a satisfying stay.

Overall, I was satisfied with my stay, but the dining dress code was stated as smart casual. In my understanding, the basics of smart casual are a collared shirt and slacks with a jacket, yet I only saw one guest wearing a jacket. As this is a resort, even without a jacket I believe at minimum a collared shirt and slacks should be expected; however, some guests wore T-shirts and shorts or sandals, and it felt very uncomfortable that staff allowed them into the dining area. If the Accommodation cannot enforce the dress code communicated in advance, then since it is a resort, perhaps dining in loungewear and indoor slippers should be acceptable as well. The quality of service also varied depending on the staff member and did not feel consistent. In addition, there was a toilet water leak during my stay. The food quality was high and very satisfying. The Onsen had excellent water, and I was able to enjoy it comfortably. This time my Room faced Lake Hibara, but mobile reception was extremely unstable. When I stayed previously, I believe my Room faced the parking lot; at that time I did not feel inconvenienced, so for my next stay I would like to request a Room facing the parking lot.

The front desk service was outstanding!

In any case, the staff at the front desk were kind and the building was impressive, so it was such a pleasant stay that I almost forgot who I was! The Sri Lankan curry and the cocktails I had at the bar were personally the best. I’d love to stay again. Thank you to all the Hotel staff for making my trip so enjoyable.

    A Great-Value, Satisfying Plan

Since most group travelers head to “Goshiki no Mori,” “Nekoma” feels relaxed and peaceful. Meals at the restaurant are served in a classic style, reasonably priced, and very satisfying. The Diamond benefits were a nice bonus, too.

As always, it was a comfortable stay.

This was our first time enjoying karaoke as a couple. We were satisfied with both the Onsen and the meals (the buffet in the main building). At the Onsen, when I came out of the sauna, I saw someone taking photos (or a video?) of the indoor bath with their smartphone while no one else was around. They looked to be in their 50s or 60s, and may have thought nobody was there. When they noticed me, they stopped immediately and apologized. There are signs in the changing room and elsewhere saying “No smartphone photography,” but unfortunately there will always be people who lack common sense, so I suppose it can’t be helped. This time I had the sauna all to myself—it felt like a private session. The thermometer read 90°C, and it was hot enough. The cold bath also felt great.

    Memories with my wife.

This time, we stayed at the Guest House. It was calm and relaxing, the Room was spacious with a great view, and the bath—rich in metasilicic acid—left our skin smooth and felt wonderful. We had French cuisine for our meal, and it was delicious.

    We enjoyed a luxurious trip.

This was my first stay. The Hotel’s sophisticated decor, quiet and spacious atmosphere, and top-class dining were outstanding. I looked forward to every meal throughout all four nights. Everyone—from reception and the restaurant to all other staff—provided such warm hospitality that I was truly glad I chose this Hotel. I would love to return.

It’s been a while since my last stay.

Since the direct bus Plan from Tokyo was discontinued, I hadn’t been able to visit for a while, but I stayed again on this trip while taking care of some business in Fukushima. As always, the free-flowing Onsen was wonderful, and I enjoyed it many times. I also enjoyed both the French dinner and breakfast. In particular, being able to order how the eggs are cooked at breakfast was a welcome change. Thank you to the staff for your help, including advice on how to walk around Goshikinuma and lending me a bear bell. I hope the direct bus service from Tokyo will be reinstated so I can visit again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    I stayed near Goshik...

I stayed near Goshiki-no-Mori a long time ago and have fond memories of how close it was to Goshiki Pond, so this time I booked a Multiple Night Stay (2 nights) at Nekoma Rikyu. The weather was wonderful, and the views of Lake Hibara from the lobby and my Room were truly relaxing. Nekoma Rikyu feels more upscale, with complimentary drinks in the lobby and its own private baths, but thanks to the Fukushima discount, the rate was very reasonable and I was extremely satisfied. The French meals were delicious, but since both dinner and breakfast were French for two days, I would be even happier if there were additional restaurant options besides the buffet and French cuisine.

I’ve stayed here several times, and the meals are always delicious. The surrounding scenery is soothing, and the Hotel Facilities are comfortable. It truly deserves full marks; this review reflects my hope that it will become even better. The rates are reasonable as well. Thank you to all the staff.

    Relax and Recharge

It was a wonderful Hotel. At check-in, the entrance was separate from the main building, and there was no staff at the front desk at first, which confused me for a moment. However, the Room was spacious with lovely furniture, the bath was relaxing, and everything was thoroughly cleaned, so we had a very comfortable stay. Having fewer staff did not bother us at all. The meals were also served at the main building buffet; there were many options and everything was delicious. We were able to refresh and really enjoyed it. The Room felt almost too large for just two people. We would love to stay again.

    It was fun, but...

The food was delicious and we enjoyed it, but... the open-air-style bath in the main building was closed, which was disappointing. The food was also very good, but... the Kozuyu we were looking forward to wasn’t available, which was very disappointing.

    I’m completely satisfied again!

The Onsen at Nijinomori Onsen was wonderful. The open-air bath, indoor bath, sauna, and cold-water bath were all at just the right temperature, and we enjoyed them very much. It was quiet and relaxing. Dinner was French cuisine and also excellent—delicious fish and meat, and the bread was so good we had seconds. Breakfast was Japanese-style and very enjoyable as well. The property was very clean throughout, the Room was easy to use, and we had a great time.
