    The Room size, bathr...

    The Room size, bathroom, and amenities were good. However, we did not feel much hospitality. The building makes good use of its charming historic architecture, and it was comfortable to stay in. The location was also quiet.

    The shojin-ryori (traditional Buddhist vegetarian breakfast) was delicious.

    I would like to stay again in the future. The in-room open-air bath, amenities, and the vegetarian Buddhist breakfast were excellent. - The toilet is separated from the living room by only a single door, so sound carries through. - When dimming the bedroom lights, they repeatedly flickered slightly between bright and dark. - The in-room open-air bath seems to be separated from the building’s public smoking room by only a single partition, so I felt it offered limited privacy.

    Same-day Reservation

    I planned a day trip to Kyoto, but I couldn’t visit as many places as I’d hoped, so I quickly looked for an Accommodation. I made a Reservation at 2:30 p.m. and headed to the Accommodation at 3:00 p.m., but they hadn’t noticed the Reservation yet. The Room wasn’t ready and I had to wait a little, but it wasn’t a problem. The Room isn’t very large, but it was comfortable and easy to relax in. The bathroom is a standard larger unit bath, which suits Japanese guests well. It’s easy to use too. Since I booked on the same day, I think I was able to stay quite cheaply thanks to last-minute and online discounts. The staff were foreigners, so communication in Japanese was sometimes a bit difficult. The building didn’t really have much of an old townhouse feel; even the stairs felt like apartment stairs (lol). There are many Rooms in a not-so-large space, but surprisingly I couldn’t hear much noise from around me. With Accommodations in Kyoto being incredibly expensive lately, I was very satisfied with the price!

    New Year's in Kamishichiken

    We had a very comfortable New Year in a quiet flower district. The Room was clean, the bed was fluffy, and we slept soundly. The amenities were well-equipped, and the private bath in the Room was very pleasant. The staff were foreigners but spoke Japanese well and were very friendly. One downside was that an expensive used Nespresso cartridge was left inside.

    Refresh with an Extraordinary Experience

    We used this special Plan as it was a great deal. The dinner was excellent, served in a quiet private room with delicious Kyoto cuisine. The Room's mini fridge was free to use, and the cups were convenient. Bottled water and coffee could be refilled. Please note that the stairs are steep, so caution is needed for those with mobility issues. The complimentary drinks at the counter, including wine, were empty; they should be replenished promptly as they are listed on the menu. It would also be nice to have snacks available for purchase. When I called the night before, I couldn't communicate well with a foreign staff member over the phone.

    It may seem designed for foreigners, but Japanese guests can also enjoy a comfortable stay.

    For those with large luggage or on days with bad weather, taking a taxi is recommended. We chose the plan with breakfast and dinner included, and the Kyoto kaiseki dinner was excellent. We enjoyed a quiet time and a meal that was both simple and skillfully prepared. The shojin ryori breakfast the next morning was also delicious. Sound carries quite a bit here. Perhaps due to the renovated machiya structure or from the open-air bath, voices can be heard clearly, and at night you may hear doors opening/closing or toilets flushing. However, it wasn’t disruptive enough to cause discomfort. The room has high ceilings with beautiful beams, and the bed was very comfortable to sleep in. The water facilities were new and clean as well. We stayed on the second floor; for large luggage, it might be better to ask for assistance when carrying it up or down. We only interacted with foreign staff members during our stay, but they were very polite in their service. Their fluency in Japanese ensured smooth communication without any issues. Since many of the guests seem to be international travelers as well, it might feel noisy if fully booked. Although I visit Kyoto often, this was my first time staying in Kamishichiken area. It’s very quiet here and allowed me to experience a different side of Kyoto—thank you for such an enjoyable stay!

    It was quite expensive during Golden Week, but it was the worst accommodation I have ever experienced.

    A Different World of Kyo-Machiya

    The interior of the traditional Kyoto townhouse was incredibly fascinating, offering a rare and unique experience. Although it was a chilly, drizzly day in March, the Room was spacious, the bath warm, and the king-sized bed allowed for a restful night. The staff were foreign but blended seamlessly, which was wonderful. The next morning, we took a short walk to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine for a leisurely visit. We admired the blooming plum blossoms, enjoyed Nagogoro Mochi sweets, and explored the precious sword exhibition at the treasure hall at our own pace. It was truly worth staying here. Thank you very much!

    Wonderful Accommodation

    I usually stayed in accommodations in the city center, but this was perfect for a serene Kyoto experience. The atmosphere was lovely, with fewer people and a calm, unique Kyoto vibe at night. The room was spacious and highly recommended.
