    The Room size, bathr...

    The Room size, bathroom, and amenities were good. However, we didn’t feel much hospitality. The building makes good use of its charming historic architecture, and it was comfortable to stay in. The location was also quiet.

    The traditional Buddhist vegetarian breakfast was delicious.

    I would like to stay here again in the future. The in-room open-air bath, amenities, and the vegetarian Buddhist-style breakfast were excellent. - The toilet is separated from the living room by only a single door, so noise carries through. - When dimming the bedroom lights, they repeatedly flickered slightly between brighter and darker. - The in-room open-air bath seems to be separated from the building’s public smoking room by only a single partition, which made it feel lacking in privacy.

    Same-day Reservation

    I planned a day trip to Kyoto, but I couldn’t visit as many places as I’d hoped, so I quickly looked for Accommodation. I made a Reservation at 2:30 p.m. the same day and headed to the Accommodation at 3:00 p.m., but they hadn’t noticed the Reservation yet. The Room wasn’t ready and I had to wait a little, but it wasn’t an issue. The Room isn’t very large, but it was comfortable and easy to relax in. The bathroom is a standard larger unit bath, which suits Japanese guests well. It’s also easy to use. Since I booked on the day, I think I was able to stay at a great price with last-minute and online discounts. The staff were foreigners, so communication in Japanese was a bit difficult. The building didn’t really have much of an old townhouse feel; even the stairs felt like apartment stairs (in a funny way). There are many Rooms in a not-so-large space, but surprisingly I couldn’t hear much noise from around me. With Accommodations in Kyoto being extremely expensive lately, I was very satisfied with the price!

    New Year in Kamishichiken

    We were able to welcome a very comfortable New Year in a quiet geisha district. The Room was clean, the bed was fluffy, and we slept very well. The amenities were well stocked, and the in-room bath was also very relaxing. The staff were foreigners, but they spoke Japanese well and were pleasant. If I had to mention one drawback, there was an empty Nespresso capsule left inside.

    Escape the everyday and recharge.

    We booked this stay because there was a great deal Plan available. Dinner was excellent. We enjoyed Kyoto cuisine in a quiet private dining room, and it was delicious. The Room’s mini fridge is free to use, and items like cups are convenient. Bottled water and coffee can also be replenished. The stairs are steep, so guests with limited mobility should be careful. At the counter, the complimentary drinks and wine were empty. Since they are listed on the menu, they should be refilled as soon as they run out. I would also like snacks to be available, even if for an additional fee. I called the night before, but I spoke with a foreign woman and we could not communicate properly.

    Although it may seem geared toward international guests at first glance, Japanese guests can also enjoy a comfortable stay.

    If you have large luggage or the weather is bad, taking a taxi is the safest option. I booked with breakfast and dinner included, and the Kyoto kaiseki dinner was wonderful—I enjoyed a quiet time and simple yet highly refined dishes. The shojin-ryori (Buddhist vegetarian cuisine) the next morning was also delicious. You can hear quite a lot of noise. Perhaps because it is a renovated machiya townhouse, or due to the open-air bath, voices carry easily, and at night you can also hear doors opening/closing (such as for the restroom) and toilets flushing. That said, it wasn’t so noisy that it ruined my stay. The Room has high ceilings with beautiful beams. The bed was very comfortable as well. The bathroom area is new and clean. I stayed on the second floor, but if you have large luggage, I recommend asking for help carrying it up and down. All staff I met were non-Japanese. They were very polite, and their Japanese was excellent, so communication was not an issue. Since many guests also seem to be international visitors, it may feel noisy if the Accommodation is fully booked. I visit Kyoto often, but this was my first time staying in Kamishichiken. It was very quiet and let me experience a different side of Kyoto. Thank you very much.

    It was an extremely terrible accommodation.

    Although it was quite expensive during Golden Week, it was one of the worst Accommodations I have ever stayed at.

    A Different World of Kyo-Machiya

    The interior of the traditional Kyoto townhouse was incredibly fascinating, offering a rare and unique experience. Although it was a chilly, drizzly day in March, the Room was spacious, the bath warm, and the king-sized bed allowed for a restful night. The staff were foreign but blended seamlessly, which was wonderful. The next morning, we took a short walk to Kitano Tenmangu Shrine for a leisurely visit. We admired the blooming plum blossoms, enjoyed Nagogoro Mochi sweets, and explored the precious sword exhibition at the treasure hall at our own pace. It was truly worth staying here. Thank you very much!

    Wonderful Accommodation

    I usually stayed in accommodations in the city center, but this was perfect for a serene Kyoto experience. The atmosphere was lovely, with fewer people and a calm, unique Kyoto vibe at night. The room was spacious and highly recommended.
