    Thoughtful, attentive hospitality for every guest without exception

    This was my third stay, and every time I’m amazed by the thoughtful attention shown to guests. Even though I was traveling solo and only had breakfast included, I was treated so warmly, which I truly appreciate. As soon as I parked, a staff member came right out and carried my luggage for me. I even had a laptop with me, so it was quite heavy, but they carried it cheerfully and with great care. A staff member I’d spoken with before remembered my name and kindly took the time to greet me even while busy cleaning—it made me very happy. Last time, when Kanaru suddenly wandered off, they gently reassured me by saying, “It’s because a staff member who gives him treats just walked by,” which really warmed my heart. This time I got to pet him a lot, and I was also glad to hear more stories about Kanaru. Even late at night when heading toward the parking lot, there were staff members at the front desk and near the entrance/exit area, which made me feel safe. At breakfast as well, the pleasant greetings and guidance put me in a great mood, and having someone serve rice and miso soup made me feel at ease—I didn’t have to worry about spilling anything. I also overheard them telling another guest, “A window seat has opened up—would you like to move over?” and it really showed how much they want guests to be happy. (I understand this depends on timing and available seating.) At checkout too, they carried my heavy luggage all the way to my car—I was impressed until the very end. There were countless other thoughtful touches and support that I can’t possibly list them all. The more I visit, the more comfortable it feels here. Among Accommodations with high Reviews online there are some where you wonder why—but this place is the opposite. I honestly think 5.00 would be fair; in reality it exceeds its Reviews! As soon as I got home, I already wanted to come back again.

    As expected of Furukawa

    The building itself is compact, and you may notice its age and limited space, but these are more than made up for through thoughtful touches, cleanliness, and the staff’s attentive hospitality—making it a wonderful Accommodation. It feels carefully designed with the question, “What would make guests happy?” in mind, and you can see this consideration throughout the property. I was comfortable throughout my stay, and if I were choosing an Onsen Accommodation in Otaru, this is a place I would gladly return to.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    The Room, bath, and all areas of the Accommodation were kept very clean. When we returned from going out, the staff stayed close by and even brought our key for us, which was a thoughtful touch. Breakfast starts at 7:00, but when we explained that eating then would make us miss our train, they prepared a breakfast we could eat in our Room at 6:30. It was extremely helpful. The canal-side view from the Room was wonderful, and the sunrise was truly beautiful. We would like to stay again.

    Genuine guest service—not just for show!

    How comfortable and at home guests can feel—this Accommodation truly supports that with all their heart. Not only is the staff outstanding, but the breakfast is incredible too. So for my second stay, I made a Reservation with breakfast included. I booked a time to enter right when it opens at 7:00. Everything was still warm. Eating an amazing handmade breakfast with the morning sun, I felt my energy filling up. It’s easy to fall short on vegetables while traveling, but this breakfast has plenty of steamed vegetables and side dishes (and lots of salad options too)! As someone who’s almost vegetarian, this breakfast was a lifesaver. There were so many Japanese-style sides like simmered dishes and dressed vegetables that it was hard to choose—perfect for me since I mainly eat Japanese food. Of course, there were just as many Western options as well, and the freshly baked bread came in smaller portions so I could try different kinds. I’m sensitive and tend to react physically (and even taste-wise) to chemicals, but everything was delicious! Far beyond what I expected!! I also learned that if you’re dining alone, they can seat you in a private booth facing the canal, so next time I’d love to stay and leisurely enjoy both dinner and breakfast here. Since it’s located right in the center of Otaru’s downtown area, you have endless choices for places to eat, but there are many international tourists, so both the streets and shops get crowded. Still, once you step inside the Accommodation, it’s completely quiet. Staying in and relaxing at the Accommodation all day might be nice too. There are lots of thoughtful touches so you won’t get bored even if you take it slow. Books placed everywhere throughout the building. For TV entertainment, there’s also Tver that anyone can enjoy freely even without subscriptions like Amazon Prime Video or Netflix. A variety of complimentary drink services that change by time of day. At night they set out snacks like rice crackers, plus bite-sized ice cream after your bath is always available. By the way, the parking lot entrance is on the left side of the Accommodation entrance. Even if it’s full, there is a second parking lot (they will guide you). No matter where you look—there’s a genuine sense of trust and peace of mind in both the staff and the entire Accommodation. After an experience like this, it’s impossible not to become a fan of Otaru Furukawa!

    Even with No Meals Included, enjoy the finest hospitality!

    From the moment I entered the parking lot, staff guided my car and helped carry my luggage. I arrived a little early, so after check-in I asked to wait in the lounge area, and they turned on the lights, played gentle classical music, and made it very comfortable. After that as well, various staff members spoke to me with warm consideration and smiles. Even though I had booked No Meals Included... They treat every guest warmly, without making distinctions. I could feel that spirit of hospitality in the Room amenities and even in the large public bath supplies. The high Review ratings made perfect sense. Otaru was crowded with tourists, but inside the Accommodation it was quiet. The bath water was wonderful—so soothing it even moisturized my dry skin—and at a comfortable temperature for a long soak. A stay spent simply relaxing at the Accommodation sounds lovely too. It was so wonderful that I was sure I’d come back in autumn—but then I found a last-minute deal and clicked without thinking. Next time comes with their highly praised breakfast. I can’t wait! I’m already looking forward to returning to this Accommodation that leaves nothing but comfort and satisfaction behind.

    So-called luxury Hotels should come here for training!

    The food may look simple, but it’s delicious. The staff (local part-timers and casual workers) have a far better service mindset than employees at so-called luxury Hotels. The student who served dinner was very thoughtful, asking things like, “Shall I add one ice cube to your first tea to cool it slightly?” Even the small sweets at the breakfast buffet are “made by the head chef in this kitchen,” and they’re genuinely tasty. We booked a Room with a balcony, but unfortunately couldn’t fully enjoy it due to bad weather. Still, it was a well-equipped balcony, even with a hanging swing chair. The Room isn’t large by any means, but the layout and furniture placement are well designed, making it very comfortable. There were complimentary soft drinks (“Please help yourself”) in several spots inside the building, which was much appreciated when we got thirsty. The large Onsen bath and the yomogi herbal bath (steam sauna) were also very relaxing. Staying at such a wonderful Accommodation for this price makes going to “luxury” Hotels that only have the name feel pointless.

    I’d love to stay here again.

    It was a very homey Accommodation. Not only was the staff’s service excellent, but the Room was also very relaxing. The Room had an Onsen as well. It isn’t the latest style, but it feels incredibly calming. It’s a little away from the bustle, yet it wasn’t too far to visit the glass museum or nearby sweets shops, so it was convenient. Unfortunately, dinner didn’t suit my taste. Breakfast didn’t have an overwhelming variety, but I enjoyed it and it was delicious. I was extremely satisfied with the staff’s service, very happy with both the Room and bath, and soothed by the adorable resident dog—overall a wonderful stay. I’d love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    We were truly touched by and grateful for the thoughtful care shown by every staff member.

    From the Reservation process (changing to a Room with a terrace) to check-in/check-out reception and parking assistance, support when coming and going from the Hotel, and service at dinner and breakfast, every staff member provided warm, thoughtful hospitality focused on guest satisfaction. I am truly grateful. The Onsen baths on the first and second floors were also very comfortable; personally, I preferred the second floor. The meals were delicious. The Room is slightly small, but I was satisfied with the terrace. Being right in front of the canal was also a plus. It’s also nice to relax in the retro first-floor lounge, listening to music while enjoying a glass of Niagara white wine.

    A Relaxing Accommodation

    We stayed here on a trip for our wedding anniversary. All the staff were wonderful, the property was clean throughout, and although we only had breakfast, everything was delicious. The location is also very convenient, and whenever we visit Otaru, we would definitely like to stay here again. Being able to stay at such a lovely Accommodation on the first night of our trip made it a truly memorable journey.

    I recommend visiting during cherry blossom season.

    This Accommodation is full of hospitality. They clearly explained how to use the building and Facility, so I felt at ease throughout my stay. The gentle, warm service was especially memorable. There was also a resident dog. [Room] I stayed in a canal-side Room with a terrace on the 3rd floor. Perhaps because it was still chilly, blankets were provided for use on the terrace, and I really appreciated the thoughtful attention to detail. [Onsen] The large public baths are on the 1st and 2nd floors, and it seems they switch between men and women depending on the time of day. You can view cherry blossoms from both baths. It would be best to visit during cherry blossom season. [Overall] Not only were the Onsen and Room comfortable, but above all, the staff’s hospitality left a lasting impression. Recommended not only for those visiting Otaru for sightseeing, but also for anyone looking to relax and spend unhurried time at the Accommodation.

    This is an Accommodation I’d love to stay at again.

    An outstanding location with a beautiful view over the canal, and very easy to reach from the station. Perfect for a stroll along the canal-side promenade. We also appreciated that all drinks in the refrigerator, including champagne, were free—an excellent touch that made us feel truly welcomed. We were short on time this trip, but we’d love to relax and take it easy next time. Thank you for your hospitality.

    This is a very charming Accommodation.

    This was our first trip to Hokkaido as a couple since our honeymoon. This time, our trip was centered around the Otaru Canal. We chose this Accommodation because of the wonderful canal view from the property. It was even more charming than we expected. The Hotel has nostalgic, retro antique furnishings, and you can truly feel Otaru’s history throughout the entire building. The bath in particular was excellent. You can sense thoughtful care for guests everywhere. Not only were the Rooms great, but the amenities were also well stocked. The staff were polite and kind as well. For reference, while the service is more than worth the price, it would be nice to have a magnifying mirror at the Room sink. Also, breakfast offered a wide variety and was delicious, but it might be even more memorable if there were at least one standout dish featuring local ingredients or a unique twist. Overall, it felt like an Accommodation that has carefully preserved its long-standing tradition of hospitality toward guests over many years, so I highly recommend it. Thank you very much.

    If you’re staying in Otaru, this is the Accommodation to choose.

    We stayed in Special Room A, Room 801. From check-in onward, the hospitality was outstanding and truly moving. After being shown to our Room, we were given a thorough explanation of the bath and the view from the Room. The private in-room Onsen was absolutely amazing and instantly melted away the fatigue from our long journey. The night view of the Otaru Canal is beautiful, but it had a calm, refined sparkle that was different from what I expected. Breakfast is buffet-style. Many Hotels have breakfasts that aren’t particularly good, but this Accommodation is different—every dish is exquisite. An unbeatable location right in front of the canal and next to the Art Village. We will definitely stay here again when we visit Otaru next time.

    A Pleasant Surprise

    My birthday is in March and my husband’s is in April, so we stayed here to celebrate. They took photos for our birthday celebration and gave us a portrait, which truly moved us. Dinner was served at a canal-side table, and delicious dishes were brought out on a placemat that said “Happy Birthday.” Since I had mentioned in advance that I can’t eat raw foods, they kindly changed the menu to cooked dishes, which I really appreciated. When I thought I wouldn’t be able to finish dessert because I was so full, the staff offered to bring it to our Room later, so we enjoyed it slowly in our Room. The staff’s attentiveness is outstanding. Our Room also faced the canal with a great view; although it rained unfortunately, we had a very meaningful time. Thank you very much—we would love to visit again.

    So glad we stayed here!

    The staff’s hospitality was outstanding. Their smiles, attentiveness, and perfectly timed words made the stay truly special. The building is old, but that only added to its charm. We chose a Room with an Onsen bath, and it was wonderful to relax at our own pace. Every dish was carefully prepared and delicious. The sashimi was impressively fresh—just what you’d expect from Otaru. It exceeded our expectations, and we were completely satisfied.

    This Hotel exceeded our expectations in every way—location, Onsen, dining, and service. The food is truly delicious! The service is heartfelt, and you can really feel the warmth of the staff.     A wonderful accommodation with the charming Kanaru, the resident dog, and attentive service for a comfortable stay.

    Thanks to the staff's kind hospitality and excellent services, I was able to relax completely. What stood out the most was the lounge's free drinks and snacks service. Additionally, since the hotel is compactly designed, it was convenient to access the large public bath from my room, allowing me to enjoy multiple visits with ease. The unlimited Yakult available after bathing was also a delightful touch. I was further comforted by the adorable presence of Canal, the hotel's mascot dog, making my stay pleasant from start to finish.     This was my first stay at this accommodation, and the rumors about it being "addictive" were absolutely true. Upon arrival, our luggage was promptly delivered to the room, and the warm hospitality even before check-in left a lasting impression. Now for the highlights. First, the onsen. The Yoichi apple bath had a perfect aroma and temperature that relaxed me to my core. With gender-swapped baths between night and morning, each offered unique charms with hidden "wow factors." As an onsen enthusiast, I truly appreciated this thoughtful touch. What stood out most was the Light Lounge. This is truly a place where "time stops." After soaking in the onsen, enjoying drinks or Yakult in serene lighting while basking in its tranquil atmosphere deeply resonated with me. I ended up staying over an hour without realizing it. Breakfast featured a wide variety of handmade dishes. Each item was carefully prepared; especially noteworthy were the fish dishes, vegetables, and Yamanaka milk—absolutely exceptional flavors that felt like pure indulgence from early morning. The unhurried pace until checkout added to its charm—it naturally made me think “I want to book a multiple night stay next time.” I am grateful for discovering such a place that quietly recharges your heart’s battery to full capacity.

    Once again, it was a wonderful trip.

    I visited with my elderly mother. She had slightly injured her leg shortly before our trip, so we were cautious and she refrained from using the large public bath, but I’m glad we had made a Reservation for a Room with an Onsen. The bath in the Room had strong water pressure, and it was also great that there was no waiting time for it to fill up. Thank you as well for your thoughtful consideration regarding our meals, and sorry for the trouble. Everything was delicious, and I think my mother—whose appetite has decreased with age—was able to finish almost everything because of the fresh ingredients and the beautiful, well-planned presentation. All of the staff were as kind as ever. Whether traveling solo or with family, I always feel comfortable here. I look forward to staying again.

    I had a relaxing stay.

    It was a cozy accommodation, not luxurious but very relaxing. The room had a terrace, and spending time there was very comfortable. The meals were also extremely delicious. I would love to stay here again.
