Refreshed.
This was my first trip to Hakone. My main purpose was the Onsen. I’ve gotten into staying at Hotels in various hot spring areas during summer vacation, Golden Week, and other holidays. In conclusion, it was “very good, and I’d like to stay again.” Also, if you plan to use this Hotel, I recommend the annex with a private footbath. It’s rare to have a chance to enjoy a footbath in a private space, but here you can use it without worrying about others’ eyes, which is great. The water also felt wonderful and was highly satisfying. The bed was a Simmons bed. I asked my wife and she said it was very comfortable and she slept soundly. Buying a Simmons mattress has become one of my goals for this year. The meals were also easy to enjoy and delicious, with nothing to complain about. If I had to mention anything: seating for the welcome service (restaurant?) from 2:00 PM was quite limited, so I’d like them to increase the number of seats. Since we used the baths multiple times, I would have liked one extra spare bath towel (+1) in the Room. There wasn’t an outlet at the vanity sink, which felt inconvenient for women when using a hair iron. As an aside, there was a coffee grinder in the Room so we could hand-grind beans. It was my first time grinding them myself; it was difficult but still a fun experience.

It was very good.
This was my first time staying in the detached guest room at Kifuu (1202). The Room felt very clean, and the service that lets you grind your own coffee was a delightful experience you don’t usually get. I enjoyed it as my morning coffee, and with the lush green mountains visible from the Room, it tasted even better and helped me truly relax. The meals are creative kaiseki, so they have a relaxed, unpretentious feel that I personally like. In particular, the eel kabayaki with creamy miso dressing served as an appetizer was uniquely original—something you can’t find elsewhere—and it made me want seconds. The large public bath also exceeded expectations: you can enjoy two types of Onsen (Owakudani and Kiga Onsen) in one visit, which was perfect for someone like me who wants to try everything. Many of the staff appeared to be from overseas, but everyone welcomed us with warm smiles and has clearly studied Japanese well, so it didn’t bother me at all. If anything, their hospitality felt stronger than that of some Japanese staff elsewhere. If I had to mention a couple of points: the main building is quite far from the Room. That’s part of staying in a detached unit, but elderly guests or anyone with mobility issues should be aware. Also, the private open-air bath in the guest room was smaller than expected. I chose this Room because photos made it look like two people could bathe together comfortably, but it was really only spacious enough for one person to soak and relax—so my hope didn’t quite come true. It’s best to confirm with the Accommodation in advance. Overall, I think it’s a very good Accommodation.

We recommend the detached Room.
I stayed in the Moon Room on a solo trip. Due to various circumstances, I made a Reservation after 5:00 PM on the day of arrival, and with the same-day discount it was a great deal. Since my expected arrival time was set for 10:00 PM, the Accommodation contacted me, and their warm and kind response raised my expectations. I arrived just before the welcome drink service ended. Soaking in the iconic footbath, I enjoyed sparkling wine poured generously. The Room was more than spacious enough for one person, and although I initially thought the Onsen on the terrace might be small from the photos, it was also plenty for one. It’s a circulated bath from Kiga Onsen, but for someone like me who prefers hotter water, it was just right—and it warmed me up so much that I started sweating. The door from the Room to the terrace is accordion-style, so after daybreak I left it fully open all morning—it felt wonderful. The open-air bath at the large public bath uses free-flowing spring water from Owakudani. As someone who likes Kusatsu and Manza, I felt the sulfur scent was mild, but I still really enjoyed the milky-white water. However, it was unpleasant to have long hairs and fallen leaves cling to my body. In addition to the powder corner in the large public bath area, there is also a separate powder room with a ReFa hair dryer, a Panasonic hair iron, and a Panasonic facial steamer. Since I had been considering buying them anyway, it was great to be able to try them out. (For reference, the hair dryers in the large public bath were Dyson.) There were many negative Reviews online so I felt nervous until actually staying here, but it turned out to be a very satisfying stay. I’m also interested in one of their higher-category detached Rooms (annex), so I’d love to visit again.

Open-air bath in the Room
It was disappointing that the open-air bath in the Room was not warm enough and the temperature could not be adjusted.

First night
This was the least cost-effective Onsen Ryokan I have ever stayed at. The wardrobe door in the guest room was installed backwards, and one handle was not visible. The haori was thin even though it was winter. The Onsen had only an open-air bath, and the water was lukewarm, making it even colder. There were no handrails for entering the mixed cloudy bath, which felt unsafe.

I was looking forward to the bath.
Stayed on January 20th. Living in the U.S., I wanted to visit an Onsen and made a Reservation. The Room and meals were satisfactory from the perspective of someone living in the U.S. The bath, including the Onsen large public bath and open-air bath, did not feel like an authentic Onsen experience, nor did the private Room baths. The service by the dining staff was excellent. Considering the price, I am unsure about repeating my stay.

Unfortunately.
I decided to splurge a little and stay at an accommodation to relax and unwind from daily fatigue. I was very excited as it was a four-star hotel, but the pork sukiyaki hot pot served for dinner was overly salty and did not taste like sukiyaki at all. When I spoke to the staff and asked about the seasoning, they explained that it was flavored with bonito broth, soy sauce, and sugar. However, I couldn't taste any sweetness at all. When I mentioned how salty it was, they mumbled a quiet apology and quickly left without addressing the issue further. I had been looking forward to the main meal so much that this experience left me feeling deeply disappointed. As we rarely get opportunities like this due to having children, it was meant to be a special break for us but ended up being quite upsetting. On a positive note, we were provided with something like a baby bed during our meal which was helpful; however, I noticed that it felt sticky and dirty despite being intended for use by babies, which concerned me greatly.

It is a beautiful Ryokan, but
The Ryokan is beautiful, but it seems to cater to inbound guests. The footbath bar counter at the entrance is lovely, and the welcome drink service was excellent. We rented a private bath, but unfortunately, the jacuzzi water was lukewarm and had an unpleasant odor, making it unusable. We quickly returned the key and headed straight to the public Onsen. It was disappointing—perhaps a couple had used it just before us? It was simply cold and unsatisfactory. The Room felt more like a business hotel level despite being a Japanese-style room without an entryway area, which was also disappointing. As for meals, although described as kaiseki cuisine, there was an unexpected Japanese-style stew served—quite puzzling. Perhaps it's creative Japanese cuisine? In the public Onsen area, notices for foreign guests were small in size; some overseas visitors entered without rinsing or washing their bodies first. I even witnessed situations where Japanese guests instructed them on proper bathing etiquette—a rather awkward sight indeed. Other Onsen facilities often have large notices in English, Chinese, Korean, etc., regarding proper usage rules; this lack of clear guidance here was truly regrettable.

Disappointing Return
Stayed earlier this year and loved it, so this was my second visit. During my stay in January, the fridge items were complimentary, freshly ground coffee beans were provided, and there was even a beauty device available—such thoughtful details and excellent service. However, on this visit, none of those amenities were available; only water was free. The coffee had been replaced with drip coffee packs, and when I went to the front desk with a question, it took a long time for anyone to assist me. When my daughter got injured by a crack in the rocks at the Onsen and I asked for a bandage at the front desk, they simply said "We don't have any." With no convenience stores nearby and her bleeding quite a bit, she couldn't enjoy the Onsen afterward—it was disappointing. That said, the meals were all delicious and intricately prepared with some modern dishes that we thoroughly enjoyed. The atmosphere was wonderful as well; both the foot bath area and private room bath were fantastic. It's just unfortunate that these other aspects fell short.

The Onsen was excellent.
The atmosphere was casual, and the service felt impersonal. It might not be suitable for those in their late 70s.

One-night stay with meals included
I made the Reservation because I was attracted to the stylish atmosphere, such as having a bar in front of the reception, but I felt it did not match the price. It felt more like a Business Hotel. I had expected a more welcoming mood. The meals were mostly like preserved food, which was concerning... On the other hand, the Onsen with its milky white water was excellent and left my skin smooth! The Room bath was also innovative! The location is convenient with easy access from the station!

[Annex/Flower] Great Value for Money
I was worried because of the low reviews, but it turned out to be fine. 【What I liked】 - Meals: The food was excellent, and I could enjoy it in a calm atmosphere. Very satisfying. - View from the room. - Onsen: Enjoyed two types - the large public sulfur onsen and the private Kiga onsen in the room. The sauna was also a nice touch. - Staff were generally kind and attentive. - Free access to either stone sauna or private onsen. 【What needs improvement】 - A female staff member who handled breakfast on the last day was disappointing... We understand there’s a labor shortage these days, so we were patient even when rice or tea didn’t come for a while, but her obvious bad mood, loud noises, and rushing around made us uncomfortable (the male staff who served us until then were wonderful). - Indoor geta sandals: Hard to walk in and noisy as they echoed into rooms. - No shop, room service, or vending machines available... If unavailable, it would have been helpful to know before our stay. That said, considering this price range is not among luxury accommodations around Gora area, with free welcome services and footbath bar included as well as everyone working hard despite being short-staffed—it felt like good value for money overall! As mentioned in other reviews, there was an issue with drainage in our room which they fixed immediately after we reported it. Also noticed some temperature fluctuations in baths (sometimes too warm or cool), but those were acceptable compromises for us. Overall experience was great—thank you very much!

The staff's smiles are wonderful.
We stayed here for our 28th wedding anniversary. The smiles of the staff we encountered were absolutely wonderful. Everyone had a natural and warm smile, and even during busy moments, they never forgot to smile. Thanks to them, we had a truly lovely time. Thank you very much!

Unfortunately.
This was my fourth stay, but the service this time was disappointing. The staff were foreign and there seemed to be no Japanese staff present. Previously, car guidance, welcoming, and check-in services were excellent, but this time they were completely absent. There was no explanation about the stone sauna either. During meals, there were too few staff members and no explanations about the dishes. Although it is possible to get refills of rice or miso soup, I couldn't because no staff came over. I will not use this Hotel again.

We would appreciate it if the meals could be served a bit warmer.
I visited on a pleasant day in September. This accommodation had a calm atmosphere and was quite nice. Regarding the service, it could be described as maintaining privacy in a positive sense, but somewhat laissez-faire in a less favorable sense. The dinner menu and taste were good, but the temperature of the dishes was not ideal. There were no piping hot items like soup bowls, steamed egg custard, or corn rice. Perhaps due to many part-time staff members, the handling of tableware felt careless; trays were not used, and bowls were handed over by gripping them from above with both hands like claw machines instead of being presented properly with care—this did not meet the table manners I expected from an establishment named "Saryo." For breakfast service, pre-prepared items such as pickled vegetables were placed first on a tray palette while rice, miso soup, and grilled fish were served later. Again here too, I wished for hotter miso soup. While it was mentioned that rice and miso soup could be refilled freely when I asked for more miso soup there weren’t any ingredients inside—it wasn’t clear whether this omission happened accidentally or intentionally since part-timers brought it out without explanation. Next time around perhaps skipping breakfast might suffice given these experiences though we enjoyed staying at detached rooms equipped with open-air baths which left us impressed enough wanting another visit someday despite overall feeling slightly overpriced considering everything combined together!

It was a very memorable trip. We chose a room with a bath on the top floor. Both the room and the bath were spacious enough, allowing us to relax comfortably. Dinner and breakfast had plenty of variety, leaving us full but pleasantly satisfied. The accommodation was very conveniently located near Gora Station. We would love to stay here again when visiting Hakone. Thank you very much!

Do not expect top-tier customer service.
The facility is good, but the service is comparable to or worse than a Business Hotel. Front desk staff are unable to handle even basic tasks, such as properly communicating meal time selections. The staff cannot be trusted. This accommodation is not suitable for special occasions. It might be better suited for casual use, like just wanting to enjoy a quick soak in the Onsen.

It was a sudden solo trip, but I was extremely satisfied with the warm and kind hospitality of the staff and the meals. I thoroughly enjoyed each dish, and they were absolutely delicious. Of course, the Onsen also exceeded my expectations with its natural hot spring water and cloudy bath. I was truly impressed to have discovered Tensui Saryo. Thank you very much!

There was no hot wat...
There was no hot water, and even after informing the front desk, no action was taken, so I had to take a shower with cold water. Additionally, the lighting in the room was dim. While it was good that checkout was extended until 11:00 AM, the outdoor bath could only be used until 9:00 AM, making it difficult to enjoy a morning bath after breakfast. In the room's open-air bath, water came out but not hot water. Guests were unable to replace the water in the open-air bath themselves, raising concerns about hygiene. The night before, I requested an additional breakfast for a child under three years old but was told it could not be added unless done at the time of reservation. Naturally, additional meals for children during dinner were also unavailable. This should have been considered during reservation. During payment at checkout using a card, touch payment could not be used; instead of inserting or swiping the card as well, manual entry of card numbers was required—an inconvenience for those with poor eyesight.

Spacious Room allowed for a relaxing stay. The private stone sauna was also great. It was a bit disappointing that the guest room's open-air bath couldn't be used on rainy days due to the lack of a roof.

About Onsen and Baths
The open-air bath felt small and gave a closed-off impression with no view. As for the private open-air bath in the guest room, perhaps due to being fed directly from the hot spring source, the water temperature was high.

Last-minute discounts available!
I became interested around the time before and after COVID-19 and visited when my schedule opened up. Even though I was alone, they accommodated my requests. The hospitality of the staff during meals was truly exceptional. The meals were excellent for this price, and it has become an accommodation I want to visit again soon.

Meals and baths included.
During the last days of the May holidays, I searched for an Onsen and made a Reservation at an Onsen Hotel in Gora. A two-hour drive by car brought me to the Hotel, where I was kindly guided to the parking lot. Enjoying a foot bath while sipping complimentary alcohol was delightful. In the evening, there was an all-you-can-drink and snack corner. The Room did not have an Onsen but featured a glass-enclosed bath using oxidized-reduction water, which turned out to be surprisingly pleasant. Of course, being in Gora, there was also a unique outdoor acidic hot spring on the basement level that I thoroughly enjoyed at my own pace. Meals were served at table seating but had a refined Japanese ryotei-style presentation with excellent taste and portion sizes. This petite Onsen Hotel provided satisfaction with its well-balanced focus on meals and baths. The staff offered commendable service as well.

Thank you!
I stayed at this accommodation as a short trip before giving birth while living in Tokyo. When I made the reservation, I mentioned that I was pregnant, and while I only hoped for meals with fewer raw ingredients, the staff went above and beyond by providing a body pillow and lap blanket in the room, as well as being considerate with tea options. This thoughtful attention made me very happy. Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious. If I had to point out something, it would be that the water stains on the transparent door of the guest room bathroom caught my attention slightly; however, the public bath was clean and very pleasant. Once my child is born, I would love to stay here again with my family. Thank you very much!

If you thought it was a luxury Ryokan...
Looking forward to a long-awaited stay at an onsen ryokan, but the front desk was impersonal, and we were given only a complex map to find our room. Chose a room with an open-air bath, but the water was too hot and had to dilute it halfway with cold water—disappointing. The outdoor bath in the large communal area had deteriorating bamboo fences, and pampas grass floated in the tub. Dinner arrangements were through the front desk, but struggled as the automatic door wouldn’t open. Arrived at the dining area 5 minutes before our reservation time only to be told, "Please wait while we prepare." Really? During dinner, dishes were cleared away quickly, and the entire meal including dessert took just one hour—truly disappointing for what I thought would be a luxury ryokan experience!

The semi-open-air bath in the guest room was fantastic!
As it was the weekend, the footbath was very popular, so we couldn't use it. However, the Room's bath was spacious enough for a family of four and felt like a truly private Onsen! Thank you for helping us create a special celebration for our anniversary—it became a wonderful memory! We sincerely appreciate it!!
