    A charming retro-style Hotel

I stayed for one night. Although the building itself is old, it was kept very clean, and I was able to enjoy a comfortable bath. There are quite a few small steps and level changes, so older guests should take care. Breakfast was absolutely delicious. I regret not making a Reservation for dinner as well—the meal looked truly high quality with no corners cut, and I ended up eating too much. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

The perfect accommodation for experiencing local charm

I stayed here to attend an event in Matsumoto. As it was my first time in Matsumoto, I chose this Hotel because I wanted something local rather than a chain. Before my stay, they kindly contacted me with confirmations and guidance, and everything was well taken care of. Overall, I was satisfied! It’s a bit of a distance from Matsumoto Station, but there are buses and it’s also walkable. In fact, it felt convenient for sightseeing around Matsumoto Castle (the famous milk bread and soba are also very close by). The Room was spacious for a single type. The in-house loungewear and slippers were original and comfortable (and from a hygiene standpoint, the tabi-style socks and disposable items were very helpful). Overall the bathroom area and other facilities were clean, but there was dust on the metal part of the desk light that looked like it had been there for more than just a few days, which bothered me (it may be hard to notice during cleaning when the Room is bright, but once the Room is dimmer and you turn on the desk light, it’s clearly visible at eye level). Also, during this season I sleep with the air conditioner on, but because it is installed along the bed side, its noise wouldn’t get quiet enough and it bothered me when trying to sleep. That said, I really liked the unique atmosphere of the shared areas inside the Hotel. The food was delicious, and although the large public bath is modest in size, it wasn’t overly crowded so I could use it comfortably (and it was clean!). The welcome drink selection was high quality as well—I appreciated that.

The Facility and meals were disappointing.

What I liked - The in-Room shampoo and toiletries, the large public bath’s Sekkisei toner and emulsion, a ReFa hair dryer, and face towels always available in the large public bath - Welcome sherbet ice cream - Comfortable separate loungewear that was easy to relax in - Breakfast offered a wide variety of Shinshu fruit juices, which I really enjoyed - For the Accommodation Fee, I appreciated the level of service and the kind hospitality What I didn’t like - The Room air conditioner smelled musty, so I didn’t use it. - The bed was a bit narrow. - On the air purifier display, both dust and mold indicators were red for most of my stay. - I noticed dust that looked like it had been left for several days. - Many breakfast side dishes were cold, and they weren’t dishes that still taste good when cooled.

Visiting Matsumoto for the first time in over 10 years

Although my stay was breakfast-only, I had a wonderful and relaxing time. The Room furnishings had a timeless beauty that comes with age, and the atmosphere felt comforting—like the nostalgic charm of Taisho-era romance. The books available in the lobby lounge were also excellent, with a nice literary selection; I read two or three and enjoyed a truly enriching time. It was also great that the baths were available at any time from check-in until 10:00 a.m. The staff kindly recommended several places to visit in Matsumoto, and I walked around the city for the first time in over 10 years. It was great to see how it has evolved and to rediscover what I love about Matsumoto. Thank you very much. One point: regarding the shared restroom outside the women’s bath on B1 of the main building, there were no toilet slippers placed at the step where you change footwear…? It would have been difficult to go call a staff member, so I used it as-is in my zori sandals. For hygiene reasons, I would prefer guest-room zori sandals and shared restroom footwear (sandals) to be kept separate. I would like to stay at this Hotel again, so I would appreciate it if you could consider making an improvement. Thank you in advance.

    A Relaxing Space

With its folk-style furniture and wood-accented interior, it feels very calm and relaxing. We also tried dinner for the first time on this trip, and we were completely satisfied with both the presentation and the quality of the meal.

    Delicious breakfast.

I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the breakfast was. The location is excellent. Although it’s an older Hotel, that added to its charm and made it a wonderful place to stay. I’d like to stay here again when I visit Matsumoto.

    It was a cozy accommodation.

It was a Hotel with a wonderfully warm atmosphere, surrounded by traditional folk crafts. The staff were polite and pleasant, and I truly appreciated how accurately they handled everything I asked for. Above all, the meals were excellent—I felt that to eat food of this quality locally would cost quite a lot. The quality was outstanding, and I was genuinely satisfied. The Nagano-produced wine was also delicious. When I visit Nagano again, I would definitely like to stay here.

A serene, relaxing Hotel with tradition and prestige!

Thank you first of all for your warm consideration regarding wheelchair use. This was a wonderful Hotel with 140 years of tradition and prestige, and a calm, refined atmosphere. After racing through the historic battlefield of Sekigahara, traveling from the Nagara River in Gifu to Gujo Hachiman, then on to Takayama and over the Nomugi Pass, it was truly the perfect Hotel to soothe both body and mind. The meal after a relaxing rest was also excellent and very delicious. However, it was a bit crowded as it was the weekend, which was disappointing. Next time, I would like to visit on a quiet weekday.

Thank you very much for your kind support.

Although it felt like a No Meals Included stay, the location was excellent and I was able to fully enjoy everything Matsumoto has to offer. The breakfast buffet was delicious, and soaking in the large public bath was very refreshing. I would love to stay again. Thank you. By the way, is there usually snow accumulation in December?

We were able to use ...

We were able to use the bicycles for free and went with our daughter to the Matsumoto City Museum of Art and to Matsumoto Station to buy souvenirs. Exploring by bicycle was even more enjoyable and comfortable. We were also grateful that we could use a car at an affordable rate. We had a wonderful trip.

We highly recommend booking a Plan with dinner included!

Our first time in Matsumoto. The Hotel we stayed at the night before in Kamikochi was wonderful, but the meals here were even better, and my spouse and I were truly impressed. The staff provided attentive and pleasant service with perfect timing, allowing us to enjoy a very fulfilling dinner. We would love to visit again.

A long-established classic Hotel in Matsumoto

The lobby had a stately atmosphere, lined with traditional folk furniture and pottery, and the small shop and café were all wonderful—truly befitting a classic long-established Hotel in Matsumoto.

    Thank you for your support.

I stayed for two nights. The lounge and interior, truly worthy of the name “Mingei,” felt calm and relaxing. Above all, every course at the restaurant “ICAZA” was delicious, and breakfast was excellent as well. As for the Room, I requested a Japanese-style room, but there were few power outlets—so that choice was a mistake on my part. Also, I noticed a slight odor in the drinking water at the bath area. Overall, if I lived within easy reach, I would definitely want to stay at this Accommodation regularly.

Perfect for exploring Matsumoto on foot.

An ideal base for visiting Matsumoto Castle and exploring the town. The room layout feels a bit dated, so the route from the toilet to the sink is inconvenient, and the wallpaper and other finishes show some wear, but the air conditioning is new and the bed is very comfortable. Also, the water supplied to the bath comes from one of Matsumoto’s natural spring sources, so there’s plenty of shower pressure, my hair felt silky after washing, and even my allergy-prone irritated skin improved. Next time, I’d like to stay in the older wing that was under renovation.

    It became a wonderful memory.

This time, three of us stayed in a Western-style room. I was a little worried it might feel cramped with an extra bed, but there was plenty of space and we were able to stay comfortably. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of options, and everything was delicious.

    Hotel near Matsumoto Castle

I stayed in February, when it was bitterly cold, because I wanted to see the winter projection mapping at Matsumoto Castle. It was extremely cold that day—around -10°C at night—so the Hotel’s close location was a real help. The main building of the Facility, I think, was under renovation, and you can’t deny that the Facility feels a bit old. However, there is also a large public bath, and overall I had a good impression. That said, there wasn’t any standout service, so I wished there had been some sweets with tea or a welcome drink. The staff were very kind!

    I had a relaxing time.

Stayed for one night with No Meals Included. As before, I used it after returning from the mountains, and the location is excellent. Matsumoto Castle, Nawate Street, and Nakamachi Street are all within walking distance (I didn't know Matsumoto Castle has projection mapping!). There are plenty of dining options nearby, so even with No Meals Included, there's no need to worry. The Room was clean and well-equipped with amenities. You can stretch your legs comfortably in the large public bath. A minor complaint would be that the parking space is limited (while waiting for guidance after parking in front of the Hotel, other drivers and pedestrians seemed annoyed) and that hallway noise can be quite noticeable in the Room. Overall though, I was satisfied and would like to stay again!

    Stayed for the first time.

There are the main building and the new building; I stayed in the new building as the main building is under renovation. The room was clean, and amenities were well-prepared. The breakfast buffet had a wide variety of delicious options. Parking was conveniently located nearby for 880 yen per night. The staff provided kind and attentive guidance. It was an experience that makes you want to return. Although I didn’t use it this time, there seems to be a large public bath available.

A cozy blend of Japanese and Western-style Hotel

This was my second stay at this lovely Hotel with a calm interior surrounded by Matsumoto folk craft furniture. The breakfast had a serene atmosphere, reflecting the quality of the guests, making me want to visit again. This time, I enjoyed a theater performance by Gekidan Shinkansen and visited museums, all conveniently located nearby. The Japanese-style room felt slightly dated.

    Conveniently located...

Conveniently located near Matsumoto Castle and Nakamachi Street. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. We stayed in a Deluxe Twin Room in the annex, but the clawfoot bathtub caused water to spill out, making the area around the toilet wet, which was inconvenient. Dinner was impeccable, with beautifully presented dishes and excellent flavors. The restaurant had a calm and retro atmosphere that added to the experience. The coffee at the café in the annex was smooth, and combined with jazz music playing in the background, it created a very relaxing moment. This Hotel is perfect for those who want to enjoy a retro vibe.

Accommodation to Enjoy the Traditional Crafts of Matsumoto

It is not overly luxurious, but it is a charming and lovely hotel with a great atmosphere. The building is old but gradually being renovated. The rooms are clean, and the facilities are in good condition. I have stayed here many times and have never been disappointed. Breakfast features delicious local dishes that never get boring. The staff members are very kind, even the cleaning staff warmly greet you. Staying here always leaves me with a warm feeling, making me want to return again and again—such a wonderful accommodation!

    The old building was disappointing.

    - The staff were all kind and left a very good impression. - The reception area includes a calm room with dark wood decor, which also serves as a photo spot. - Breakfast was the only meal provided, but it was varied and delicious as reputed. - On the other hand, the old wing where I stayed had thin or possibly aged walls and floors, making noises from neighbors or above, as well as door opening and closing sounds noticeable. - The bathroom posed an issue; while the Western-style standalone bathtub looked stylish, it wasn't directly connected to drainage pipes. When draining water from the tub, it spread across about two-thirds of the room, requiring bath towels to be laid down in order to access the toilet within the room. - Additionally, the sink area in the room was too dimly lit for women to apply makeup comfortably. - While these negative points could be seen positively if one intends to enjoy an old-fashioned inconvenient room experience, I hope improvements can be made. Perhaps staying in a new wing would have left a different impression altogether.

    I love Matsumoto!

This is my second stay, last year and this year. The atmosphere is calm, and the Hotel staff are very pleasant. For breakfast this year, I chose Western-style and enjoyed it at the café. It was delicious. I think it would be nice if drink refills were available.

A convenient Hotel close to Matsumoto Castle.

A hotel conveniently located near Matsumoto Castle, perfect for sightseeing. The Room had a calm and clean atmosphere. The amenities in the large public bath were Snow Skin Essence, which is a great point. However, the parking lot is a bit far, and it was inconvenient during checkout as it was raining. It would be helpful if the parking space in front of the Hotel could be used for loading and unloading luggage.

    Such delicious food...

I stayed in a Deluxe Twin room in the old building, and it was average if you think of it as a typical city Hotel. The French dinner was very delicious, but unfortunately, the table location was terrible. Due to slightly bright spotlights, the dishes were shadowed while eating, ruining the experience. Most tables had indirect lighting, so I wonder why only this table had such lighting. For breakfast, even though I entered right after opening and there were available seats, I was guided to a table near the buffet counter and couldn't enjoy my meal comfortably.

    The dinner was excellent.

The building's structure is not universal design, making it difficult to access the men's public bath. The razors provided in the public bath and Room had extremely poor sharpness. Dinner at the restaurant "caza," themed around Nagano Terroir, with the Tanno course (Western cuisine), was highly satisfying.

    Accommodation for Solo Travelers

Stayed alone at the accommodation before a trip with friends. As introduced somewhere, I was very satisfied with the folk art and delicious breakfast. The view from the rooftop terrace was also great. The staff were kind, and it was a hotel I would like to stay at again.

    Very good.

Perfect size for individual travelers. Not too large, so no group tourists, and not too small. The Matsumoto furniture and decor create a great atmosphere. Breakfast offers a wide variety of options. The space is not cramped. Coffee is delicious, though the bread could be better. It would be perfect if the bath were an Onsen.
