    Onsen

    I was satisfied with everything. The Onsen was especially great. I was very pleased with the open-air bath featuring milky white, sulfur-rich water fed directly from the source. The Tochigi beef was also very delicious. I would definitely like to stay here again when visiting the Nikko area.

    Summer Vacation at Hana-an

    The Onsen was excellent. If possible, I would like a jacuzzi. The facilities are compact overall, but I had a comfortable stay. Dinner had plenty of vegetables and was enjoyable, but the quality of the meat felt a bit lacking. For breakfast, if possible, I think it would be nice to have a Western-style option as well.

    We have an excellent staff.

    During dinner, I experienced post-gastrectomy complications that led to hypoglycemia, leaving my whole body numb and causing uncontrollable cold sweats. Mr. H, a floor staff member in the dining area, noticed something was wrong and brought me a cold towel and a cooling sheet. He even prepared an ice pack, allowing me to cool my entire body thoroughly; recovery usually takes 30 minutes, but this time I recovered in about 20 minutes. After that, I was able to resume my meal, and dessert was delivered to my Room so I could enjoy it at a relaxed pace. It is rare to meet staff with such outstanding hospitality. I have stayed at many five-star Hotels and Ryokans, but Mr. H’s hospitality was truly exceptional. The seasoning and presentation of the cuisine were excellent, and the view of Lake Chuzenji from the Room was breathtaking. Mr. H’s warm service made our 30th wedding anniversary trip truly special. Mr. H, thank you very much.

    This is a great Accommodation.

    The view from the Accommodation was even better than expected, and we were able to spend a relaxing time. The Onsen was also very pleasant, but I think a slightly lower water temperature would make it even easier to soak and unwind. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, and you could really feel the attention to detail in the presentation and tableware. Overall, we were very satisfied, and it’s an Accommodation we would definitely like to stay at again.

    It was a memorable stay.

    This is a small Hotel right in front of Lake Chuzenji, and we had a wonderful trip thanks to the thoughtful hospitality of all the staff. Both dinner and breakfast were beautifully presented and delicious, and we truly enjoyed them. My elderly mother was also very pleased. This is a highly recommended Hotel, and we would love to stay again if we have the opportunity.

    It was great.

    I stayed for two nights. The Facility was very clean, and everyone at the Hotel was friendly, making for a very satisfying stay. I strongly felt their commitment to hospitality and dedicated management efforts.

    This Accommodation offers outstanding hospitality.

    The open-air bath with milky white Onsen water drawn from Oku-Nikko Yumoto Onsen was excellent. Towels and other amenities were available at the large public bath, so it was convenient to go empty-handed. There was also a variety of cold herbal teas and more, which made even a long soak enjoyable. From the Room, we could relax with an unobstructed view of the large torii gate and Lake Chuzenji right in front of us. The weather wasn’t great so we didn’t go out, but Kegon Falls is very close, so it might be nice to stroll around and explore the area. There is a smoking room near the large public bath; it isn’t very spacious, but these days it’s still appreciated to have an indoor place where you can smoke. There were many foreign staff members, but everyone provided attentive service. The Onsen and Facility were great, but above all, this Accommodation stood out for its warm hospitality. We had a very comfortable stay.

    The staff provided exceptionally courteous and kind service.

    As a first-time guest traveling solo, I felt a bit anxious at first, but whenever I asked the staff questions, they answered kindly and clearly, which made me feel at ease throughout my stay. The other guests were also very friendly, and I loved the warm atmosphere where everyone greeted each other with a smile. The food was delicious as well—especially the beef, which was tender and outstanding. When making my Hotel Reservation, I considered choosing a nearby Hotel instead, but this was absolutely the right choice. Thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality.

    I was looking for a Hotel with an Onsen in the Room.

    I was looking for a Hotel with an Onsen in the Room, and it was very nice—just as I had imagined. However, I didn’t realize that the entire area around this Hotel shares the same address, so it took me a little time to find it. Also, I couldn’t understand why the welcome drink was only Darjeeling tea. If it were a second flush, I could still drink it straight, but I don’t like teas such as green tea either. I could have managed if it were milk tea, so I wish there had been Earl Grey... Since I like coffee, I requested it but was told they couldn’t accommodate that request, which left me feeling disappointed even before check-in. Even the drip coffee in the guest room would have been fine. There are delicious coffee shops such as Nikko Coffee nearby, so it might have been better if guests could choose between coffee or tea for the welcome drink. Don’t people who love coffee tend not to prefer drinking black tea? During meals, they tried hard to explain everything to us, but it felt noisy in various places and that was a bit tiring. The Room itself was good because we could hardly hear other guests’ voices at all, but there were far too few power outlets.

    A Hotel Recommended by IKYU?

    Dinner was of a very high standard. The dishes were elaborate, and the flavors made the most of the ingredients. The Room is new but lacks a sense of solidity and feels unsettled. It does not match the Accommodation price level at all. Although Onsen water was flowing, there was no overflow from the bathtub, and hair was floating on the surface, which did not feel clean.

    An even better location than expected

    We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath. Soaking in the private open-air bath while taking in the views of Lake Chuzenji and the surrounding mountains, we were able to relax and lose track of time. We enjoyed the spectacular scenery from both the Room and the open-air bath—from our arrival, through sunset/sunrise, right up until just before check-out. As this Accommodation is located beside a torii gate, we may have also been blessed with positive energy. By the time we left, we felt truly refreshed. Thank you very much.

    Everything was satisfactory.

    Thank you for your hospitality. Three friends and I stayed for one night. As soon as we entered the Room, Lake Chuzenji spread out right in front of us, and we were able to relax and unwind. The meals were the perfect portion, and the seasoning was neither too strong nor too light—everything tasted excellent. The bath is not very large, but it was clean, the temperature was just right, and it was wonderful. However, it was disappointing that the semi-open-air bath in the Room was too cold to use in the morning. Thank you as well for responding properly each time to our several inquiries before our stay. We would like to stay again when we visit Oku-Nikko.

    This is a wonderful accommodation, but it needs improvement.

    The view from the room was wonderful, and we had a very enjoyable stay. Regarding the meals, dinner was excellent, but when we went for breakfast at the designated time, it was not ready. Please check in advance to ensure nothing is missed. Also, the breakfast menu felt a bit lacking, with too few items and too big a gap compared to dinner. I think it would be better with some improvements, such as adding grilled dishes.

    This Accommodation offers attentive service.

    We visited as three couples. From every Room, we could beautifully enjoy the tranquil view of Lake Chuzenji, and the location is excellent. With the staff’s refreshing smiles and clear explanations, we were very satisfied with the cuisine in both presentation and taste. We were really looking forward to enjoying two different types of hot spring water. It was a little smaller than we had imagined. When we first entered the open-air bath, it was slightly lukewarm, so we informed a staff member. They responded immediately, and the next time it was nicely hot and very pleasant. Thank you. It was a wonderful Accommodation that we would love to visit again if we have the opportunity.

    The view is amazing.

    I’ve visited Nikko many times and have stayed at Fufu and The Ritz as well, but personally I liked this Accommodation even more. The location is excellent, and I was able to fully enjoy a view you can only experience by staying here—looking down on the torii gate with Lake Chuzenji beyond it. The Room had been newly and beautifully renovated, making it a functional yet warm Accommodation. All of the staff greeted us with smiles, which truly warmed my heart. I was also impressed by the meals. Every dish was thoughtfully presented, and I could feel the attention to detail in each piece of tableware. Of course, the flavors were satisfying too, and from the restaurant we could also enjoy views of Lake Chuzenji and the torii gate. We were seated at a great sofa table for both dinner and breakfast, for which I’m very grateful. We stayed to celebrate my daughter’s birthday, and my elderly mother was completely satisfied—she kept saying “the best!” as she enjoyed herself to the fullest. We stayed in a Japanese-modern Room, and since she has trouble with her legs, they provided chairs that were easy to sit on, which was very helpful. The bath still had a bit of a Showa-era retro feel, but that added to its charm as well. I’d love to visit again in autumn.

    Traveling with Friends

    The Room was new and spotless, and we had a very comfortable stay! There were outlets in many places, which was very convenient. Everyone was polite and kind, and we had a wonderful time.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    After we arrived, drinks and cookies were served right away, which helped us relax. The Room had been renovated about six months ago, so the bathroom and other water facilities were very clean and easy to use. The meals were delicious kaiseki cuisine featuring local specialties and seasonal ingredients. We would like to stay again.

    I felt this Accommod...

    I felt this Accommodation’s main highlights are the views and the dining. Dinner was served in a style where you can enjoy small portions of many delicious dishes, and there was a great variety. It was a pleasure to look at as well, and every piece of tableware was beautiful—truly wonderful. My elderly mother was delighted and ate more than usual. It was a bit disappointing that the changing area by the baths was small and felt dated, but since there are only a few Rooms, I also thought it might be unavoidable.

    The view from the Room is wonderful.

    The view of Lake Chuzenji and the surrounding mountains from the Room is outstanding. The breakfast was also delicious.

    Disappointing

    Dinner was excellent in both quantity and quality, so I had high expectations for breakfast as well. However, breakfast had very few side dishes and was mostly just rice accompaniments, which made it unappealing. Every time I think back on it, it leaves me feeling unpleasant.

    The meals were excellent!

    We chose this place for its great location, but the meals were even better than expected—lightly seasoned and truly bringing out the natural flavors of the ingredients. They were so wonderful that I wanted to thank the head chef in person! The welcome tea was also delicious, and the Onsen warmed us up thoroughly. The service was very attentive and flawless.     Exceeded expectations. It was a wonderful Accommodation.

    The view from the Room was amazing. The Room was very clean, well maintained, easy to use, and we were very satisfied. The meals were delicious, and we also enjoyed the carefully selected tableware. The baths were great—especially the open-air bath. As it is fed directly from the hot spring source, the water felt silky-smooth and the temperature was perfect, so we could relax and soak for a long time. The staff were pleasant and kind. It was our first trip with my parents in a while. We were happy to spend such meaningful time together.

    I had a very pleasant stay.

    Having previously stayed at a hotel in the same group and had a wonderful experience, I chose this accommodation for my first visit to Lake Chuzenji. The location, the breathtaking view of Lake Chuzenji from the room, the beautifully maintained and comfortable room, and the limited number of rooms creating a quiet and relaxing atmosphere were all exceptional. The meals were delicious, with flavors that highlighted the quality of the ingredients while maintaining a gentle seasoning. Above all, I was truly impressed by the staff's well-trained professionalism combined with their friendly hospitality. It was an accommodation I would love to visit again.     Not recommended due to poor value for money.

    The room was renovated, with very clean and comfortable facilities, including the water area. However, while the location is convenient, the constant sound of cars detracts from any sense of escape. The Onsen was lukewarm and showed signs of aging. If well-maintained, it could have been described as "retro and charming," but here it simply felt old. The meals were not worth the price; nothing particularly delicious stood out. The pre-set serving style left some dishes uncovered at certain tables, which felt unhygienic—there's no value in dining here. Service also did not match the price point.

    Spacious sofa bed Variety-filled dinner

    We were warmly welcomed with a lovely smile. The room felt clean and stylish, like a modern hotel. The sink was conveniently located right at the entrance, making it easy to wash hands immediately. There was a sliding door separating the bedroom, and the layout was well thought out for using the private bath without any inconvenience. In addition to twin beds, there was a large sofa bed where my husband comfortably dozed off while watching TV. The Onsen open-air bath in the room offered refreshing breezes from Lake Chuzenji and had slightly lukewarm water, which allowed for longer relaxation time. It would have been even better if there were baskets or small storage spaces for towels or clothes nearby. The public bath also provided plenty of towels, which was great; however, having sinks directly in front of the changing area made it slightly uncomfortable due to people using hairdryers nearby. As for meals, they were deliciously prepared with many small dishes to enjoy variety—perfect even for elderly guests—and served efficiently by a sommelier who explained each dish clearly. One downside: the toothbrushes provided were extremely hard and quite surprising! They hurt my gums; softer options would be more suitable for women or elderly guests as well.

    The room is compact but offers an amazing view from the window, allowing for a pleasant and relaxing time. Dinner was delicious, with every dish being enjoyable, though the portions were slightly large. Breakfast had a moderate portion size, and the ochazuke was also tasty. You can choose one drink, but I wished I could have both cold juice and coffee after the meal—it was a bit disappointing not to have that option. The bath is not very spacious, but since it wasn’t crowded, I could take my time to relax. The quality of the water in the open-air bath was exceptional. Personally, I would appreciate disposable slippers being available. It’s a lovely accommodation with unique charms that you don’t find in large hotels.

    It was a wonderful birthday trip.

    During the lingering summer heat, my husband planned a birthday trip to seek coolness in Oku-Nikko. Although we have visited Yumoto Hotels several times, we decided to stay at "Hanaan" by Lake Chuzenji for the first time after noticing its outstanding Reviews on IKYU.com. Despite being caught in heavy rain and traffic due to Typhoon No. 15, which turned the surroundings into a gray world, our early check-in at the Hotel brought us joy. Upon entering our Room, we were greeted with a bear made of towels and an A3-sized paper message saying "Happy Birthday," personally crafted by a staff member. While I had experienced such hospitality on overseas cruises before, it was my first time encountering it at a Japanese Hotel—what a delightful surprise! Although our late Reservation meant staying in a standard Room, the view from its large window of Lake Chuzenji and the vivid red torii gate standing out against the cloudy backdrop left us deeply impressed. At dinner's end came another surprise: beautifully decorated fruit platters accompanied by message cards—a series of thoughtful gestures that made us forget about the typhoon and turned this day into something truly special. That night, as Typhoon No. 15 passed away, we admired an almost full moon shining brightly through our window with all lights off—a breathtaking sight. The next morning greeted us with clear blue skies that captivated my husband as he gazed out from our Room’s window. The meals throughout our stay were exquisite; every dish showcased refined Japanese culinary techniques reminiscent of Kyoto’s top-tier restaurants with dashi-based flavors as their highlight. Additionally impressive was how three types of herbal teas prepared near the bath area offered refreshing blends while staff consistently monitored bath temperatures for comfort—every detail reflected guest-first hospitality executed naturally across all areas by dedicated team members. True to its stellar Reviews on IKYU.com, this Hotel provided an exceptional experience that has made me eager to return as a repeat guest!

    Delicious and beautifully presented cuisine with relaxing Onsen.

    The dishes were innovative in presentation, carefully prepared, and delicious, making the experience very enjoyable. Breakfast felt a bit light, but considering the hearty dinner, it might have been just right. Both types of baths were pleasant and clean, helping to relieve both body and mind fatigue. One downside was that the Room's air conditioning didn’t work well, and combined with thick bedding, it was too hot to sleep comfortably. All staff members were friendly with warm smiles.
