Feeling a bit unsure before your trip?
Highly recommended overall. Luxurious with a sense of privacy. The ANNEX rooms feature one room per floor, offering complete seclusion. Perfect for those who prefer not to encounter anyone else. A welcome champagne awaits on the table, and all drinks in the refrigerator are complimentary with a decent selection. The Onsen is sourced directly from the hot spring, providing excellent water quality for your skin. Bathrobes and samue are well-prepared for your comfort. Not only curtains but also large windows can be automatically opened and closed, allowing access to the balcony. We stayed on the third floor, where we enjoyed breathtaking views of mountains extending to Seto Inland Sea islands and beyond—truly spectacular scenery! Dinner features creative dishes made with local ingredients, offering a well-balanced culinary experience. The drink pairing is exceptional as well! This is one of the accommodations you should consider when visiting Matsuyama!

Staying at an Art Museum
I had the pleasure of staying at the long-awaited Setouchi Retreat Aonagi. The interior maintained the spaciousness unique to an art museum, while the room offered a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The special Kaiseki course and pairing were exceptional. It is a hotel I would love to visit again.

The Perfect Weekend
The room, service, Onsen, and meals were all impeccable. I was very satisfied. Additionally, I was captivated by the space designed by Tadao Ando and enchanted by the numerous artworks. I will definitely visit again.

I was soothed by the forest bathing experience.
We had a relaxing day surrounded by the soothing scent of trees. The accommodation was enveloped in tranquility, and strolling while admiring the artwork was incredibly calming. The view from the private open-air bath in our room was like a painting—truly breathtaking. The private pool and sauna were stylish, and an hour passed by in no time. The pool temperature was perfect, which was especially helpful since I’m not fond of cold water baths after the sauna. The meals were exceptional, with just the right amount of seasoning and delicious broth that made everything easy to enjoy without feeling heavy. The rice was so incredibly tasty—it surprised me as I had assumed only regions like Hokuriku or Tohoku excelled at rice. It turned out to be a delightful surprise! The breakfast featuring Spanish mackerel shabu-shabu in broth was also exquisite. Unfortunately, we were woken up before 8:00 AM by what seemed like ground-shaking sounds from tree-cutting near the golf course area. It disrupted our morning bath experience as well (though this seems unrelated to the accommodation itself). The staff's hospitality was truly outstanding. We would love to visit again!

Spacious Room and Dining with a View of the Waterfall for an Elegant Experience
Stayed at the accommodation for our second family trip. The room was spacious and we enjoyed a luxurious stay. The sunset view from the window of the main building's room is stunning. At the end of the long pool extending towards the sea, you can see a beautiful view of the ocean, islands, and sunset. One of the highlights is having wine selected by a sommelier to pair with dinner dishes. We look forward to visiting again!

Like a private villa
I booked a 2-night, 3-day stay with breakfast and dinner included. While I feel that the quality of customer service has been improving across the board recently, this place is still worth spending hundreds of thousands of yen to stay at. - Highlights The room was exceptionally clean and quiet. The structure resembled a spacious single-story villa. While it didn’t exude the luxury of a hotel, it offered an incredibly refined and comfortable space akin to a private vacation home. The meals were perfect in both presentation and taste, with staff explanations (especially from the male sommelier) being fluent yet unobtrusive. There was never a moment where I felt rushed or interrupted, even when having serious conversations with my partner—the staff’s attentiveness was impeccable. The lounge and private pool were also lovely. With only a few guest rooms available, it was very peaceful throughout our stay. This is highly recommended for those seeking an extraordinary but understated experience rather than opulent luxury. - Areas for Improvement The mattress felt slightly firm, there weren’t enough pillows, the bedroom windows were dirty, and some facilities seemed somewhat outdated. In this regard, larger hotels like ANA Crowne Plaza (which can cost around ¥20,000 per night) offer better quality. The bathroom setup was slightly inconvenient as there wasn’t a washing area or large communal bath; you’re limited to using your room’s bathroom instead. While clean overall, some placements—like amenities or towels—felt oddly positioned. After soaking in the tub and washing up afterward, water would inevitably flood the floor since the bathroom connects directly to the toilet area; this made trips to use the toilet quite inconvenient. Additionally, while understandable due to design choices, parking spaces are small and certain areas like check-in counters or payment desks can become uncomfortably hot at times. There’s definitely a mix of aspects that feel worth their price—or even exceed expectations—and others that fall short; however, it remains such an enchanting place that I’d love to visit again if given another opportunity!

Stayed at a Tadao Ando-designed building.
The building designed by Tadao Ando was located at the top of a winding slope that might make you wonder if it's really around here. It's next to "Elleair Golf Club Matsuyama." We arrived just before 6 PM, having spent a bit too much time exploring Dogo Onsen. After being shown to our room (Room 2301 in the annex), we went through an underground passage to the art lounge on the third floor of the main building. We were greeted by The Beatles printed on a large Imabari towel and toasted with sparkling wine. For dinner, we enjoyed kaiseki cuisine paired with sake at counter seats in an open space. The sommelier explained each type of sake and why it was chosen for each dish. Memorable dishes included "Kombu Funamori," where the aroma of kombu and flavor of barley miso were perfectly integrated; "Tiger Puffer Dobin Mushi," which used tuna flakes instead of bonito flakes for a slightly sweet broth; "Shirako Awayuki Style," where shirako complemented poached golden eye snapper; and "Yagara Wasabi Kombu Age," where we savored plump yagara fish after a long time. The final dish, "Tai Rice," featured plenty of sea bream cooked in an earthenware pot, with leftovers available as takeout for supper (though we forgot to request it). Unfortunately, the wagyu sirloin and root vegetable hot pot was disappointing—the vegetables in soy milk broth were delicious, but the sirloin lacked seasoning. We had breakfast at the same location: buri yuanyaki, tai shabu-shabu, jakoten fish cake, dashimaki tamago with rice from an earthenware pot—three bowls went down easily (we couldn't have more because it ran out). Regrettably, we couldn't enter the infinity pool but admired its view from beside it—a fitting highlight for this Tadao Ando-designed building offering stunning scenery. As expected from a former art museum space is luxuriously ample throughout adorned artworks captivate attention everywhere you look. Our room was a semi-open-air suite in another wing allowing us alternating enjoyment between sleeping bath & semi-open-air bath though blinds remained closed due cold weather limiting views outside (Room 2301 offers forest view partially overlooking sea). I'd love returning outside winter season!

The best Hotel experience
Finally stayed at the hotel I had been curious about. Originally opened in 1998 as a property for guests of Daio Paper Corporation, this building was used as a museum designed by Tadao Ando until April 2015, and has since been renovated into a hotel. The spacious rooms and art displayed throughout the facility create a special atmosphere, making every spot a picturesque setting. The iconic infinity pool, which has also been featured in the media, and the breathtaking views of the Seto Inland Sea were awe-inspiring. The private pool and sauna can be enjoyed without any preparation, and the spa within the hotel offers supreme relaxation. The beauty of the cuisine and tableware, along with the exquisite pairings by the sommelier, were also impressive. The hospitality of the staff was wonderful, making for an excellent stay. It was my first visit to Ehime, but I would like to return with my family next time.

The best experience
Arrived at dusk. After checking in, we were guided to the infinity pool where we could gaze at the sky dyed orange. Even before entering the Hotel, we were overwhelmed by its presence, and once inside, the world view made our hearts flutter. Every corner was photogenic, and I couldn't stop taking pictures with my iPhone camera. Everything, from the interior, rooms, Onsen, cuisine, to hospitality, was satisfying, and I felt the service was worth the price. The experience of using the pool and sauna as a Diamond member perk was also great. The special feeling of staying in a former art museum and the wonderful scenery of Setouchi. One more Property I want to revisit. I will definitely go again.

It became a special memory.
I used it for my mother's birthday celebration. With a small number of Rooms, I was able to spend a very quiet and relaxing time. All the dishes were very delicious, and I enjoyed a wonderful pairing with the sommelier's choice of wine. The attentive service of each staff member made the Hotel a destination in itself. I am looking forward to the next visit.

A space where you can feel the extraordinary
The hotel was introduced as luxurious and top-class in the "Michelin Guide Hiroshima & Ehime 2018 Special Edition." It is also famous for being designed and constructed by the world-renowned architect, Tadao Ando. I had been wanting to visit for several years, and this time my wish came true with this stay. As a retreat group, when I used Goto Retreat Ray last year, the cuisine and service were excellent, so I was really looking forward to it and spent my time in a dreamlike state! After returning home, when I told my daughter about the experience, she said she already knew about it from Hikakin's YouTube. She expressed a strong desire to visit, so I am determined to use it again. Thank you for the wonderful time.

A place where you can feel the extraordinary.
You climb a mountain road to reach the hotel. Although there are no signs, we arrived safely despite feeling anxious. Once we arrived, it was already a place where you could feel an extraordinary atmosphere. The spaciousness and cleanliness of the lobby and rooms, the indoor pool with a sauna, and the building that doesn't seem to be 25 years old, everything was special. Moreover, the food was incredibly delicious, further enhancing our satisfaction. The heat applied to the ingredients was perfect, and it was truly tasty. The semi-open-air bath in the room was also very pleasant, and I ended up staying in longer than usual. I felt happy to be able to stay at such a place for this price. Next time, I want to come with my family, play golf at the neighboring golf course, and then stay overnight as a plan.
