    Thoughtful attention to detail

    There were thoughtful touches throughout, such as a basket for carrying towels and a change of clothes to the bath, and tabi socks provided for use inside the property. The food was also delicious.

    Dinner was delicious...

    Dinner was delicious, and the Room was spacious enough for three people, so we were able to relax comfortably. Thank you for a truly special time. The Tanabata decorations were also authentic, and we enjoyed the limited-time seasonal atmosphere!

    I was satisfied.

    It was my first time visiting Akiu Onsen, and thanks to the free Shuttle Service bus from Sendai Station, the trip was very smooth. Ryokusuitei is a historic Ryokan, and I was able to relax and enjoy a comfortable stay with great Onsen baths and meals. The weather wasn’t good so I couldn’t use the open-air bath with bonfire lighting, but the indoor bath was also spacious with excellent water.

    The Room was extremely disappointing.

    I stayed in a Room with an open-air bath, but the layout felt forced and was very disappointing. First, the Room was small, and the tiled floor made it hard to relax. Even though it’s a special Room with only three available, the toilet and sink were combined. Normally there should be a washing area or vanity between the open-air bath and the Room, but there was nothing, so I ended up drying off in the Room. Dinner was delicious, but a two-person dining table was placed in the cramped Room, which also made it difficult for staff to serve, and I couldn’t relax at all when resting either. In that case, I would have preferred a sofa in the Room and dinner served elsewhere. The food and Onsen were good, but overall I left feeling disappointed.

    I had a very comfortable stay, and it completely relieved the fatigue from moving.

    After helping my daughter move, I stayed at Akiu Onsen to unwind. The open-air bath lit by a bonfire had a wonderful atmosphere, and even though it was cold outside, it warmed me through to the core. Every dish was delicious—I thoroughly enjoyed both Sendai beef and abalone—and the complimentary coffee was also excellent. Above all, the hospitality was outstanding and made me want to stay again.

    I won’t be staying here again.

    One of the pleasures of traveling is the food. We especially had high expectations for dinner at a Ryokan. This time, we chose a Plan that included Sendai beef and abalone, and our whole family had been looking forward to it for a long time, but it ended up being a major disappointment. Rather than feeling like a family trip meal, it was more like food served at a company banquet, and above all, the taste was problematic. The soy sauce had an indescribable flavor that completely masked the sashimi’s goodness; likewise, the steak sauce totally overwhelmed the flavor of the Sendai beef. As for the abalone, perhaps because of how dull the knife was, we couldn’t cut it at all and ended up leaving most of it. It was a sad meal where all of the main dishes fell apart. Also, instead of beer being served in glasses, it came in manufacturer-branded aluminum cups, so we couldn’t see inside; the female server seemed worried that there might have been too much foam. Even though it wasn’t a buffet-style venue, the dining area was so noisy and chaotic that it was very unpleasant, and we left early. Both male and female staff were very kind to us throughout, and we appreciated that. I don’t think we will return, but I hope the food improves.

    Open-Air Bath "Kagaribi no Yu"

    The Ryokan is about a 40-minute ride from Sendai Station on a rather bumpy minibus. It is set on an expansive property, making full use of the vast space. Despite being a weekday, there were quite a few guests. We stayed in a special room with great views, and the interior was truly spacious. The room was impeccably clean, allowing for a very comfortable stay. The open-air bath "Kagaribi no Yu" is located down some stairs from the large communal bath area, and during winter, it can feel quite chilly. Bath towels are provided and are essential to use. Soaking in the warm water while watching the flickering bonfire creates an incredibly relaxing experience. The water temperature was just right for leisurely bathing. As for meals, they were typical of what you would expect at a Ryokan but were delicious nonetheless.

    For our first visit ...

    For our first visit to Akiu Onsen, we wanted to stay somewhere special and chose Ryokusuitei. It turned out to be the perfect choice! The service and food were both excellent. If I had to mention one thing, it would be that the outdoor bath could use a bit more lighting. It was quite dark, making it hard to see my footing and a bit scary getting into the bath. I also feel that being able to see more of the surroundings would have enhanced the experience even further.

    It was a quiet accom...

    It was a quiet accommodation with thoughtful attention to detail. Dinner featured a carefully crafted menu reflecting the season and local culture, while the buffet-style breakfast offered a wide variety. A family member who accompanied me emailed saying, "We should visit again."

    The food was excellent.

    I enjoyed my stay with the Special Discount Plan. The evening kaiseki meal, featuring "Japanese-style bouillabaisse hot pot" and "premium beef steamed in a bamboo steamer," was delicious. The appetizers, including fresh sea squirt and yuba, were exquisite and showcased the craftsmanship of the chefs. A young female staff member served us and explained each dish thoroughly, allowing us to enjoy our meal with confidence. However, the steamed beef was lean and became tough when overcooked, making it difficult for elderly guests to eat. Descending from the large public bath on the 3rd floor to the open-air bath on the 1st floor via outdoor stairs exposed us to chilly air even in October; I imagine it would be even colder during winter months. The staff were very kind and made our stay pleasant. I would love to visit again if given another opportunity!

    Enjoyed with my grandchild.

    I stayed for one night with my grandchild. The Hotel is located on a hill, and our room was on the 10th floor, offering an amazing view of the Akiu Onsen town and the winery. After enjoying a welcome drink of coffee in the lobby, we headed to the Onsen. The bath was spacious and included a sauna, which was great. We skipped using the open-air bath due to rain but planned to use it before checkout in the morning. However, we didn’t realize it would be closed for cleaning after 9 AM, so we missed out—our mistake! Dinner included abalone, beef steak, sashimi, and more; everything was delicious and served in just the right portions. Many staff members were from Myanmar; they were very kind and left a good impression. I’ve visited Akiu Onsen many times before but want to enjoy seeing bonfires while soaking in an open-air bath next time as well—so I plan to stay at this Hotel again!

    The meals were particularly disappointing.

    We employ many foreign staff. The service was not attentive to details. The food, except for the sashimi, was not delicious. The outdoor bath was lukewarm. The bartender was also unfriendly.

    The facility feels outdated.

    The room was advertised as offering a unique view from Ryokusuitei, but unfortunately, the garden seemed to be under maintenance with no water and appeared untended, so the view from the window was not very appealing. From the moment we entered the Hotel, there was an old (musty) smell throughout the hallway and Room. The large public bath's changing area was spacious. The indoor baths had both hot and lukewarm options; I chose the hotter one and found it very relaxing. As for the open-air bath, it required wearing sandals and walking with a bath towel wrapped around you. There were also warnings about horseflies, so I decided not to go. The food was excellent; the bouillabaisse stood out as my favorite dish. The portion sizes were just right to leave us feeling full. Overall, I felt that while the Facility is expansive, it seems outdated without proper renovations being done over time. It’s a shame because its location on an elevated spot is quite nice!

    I had a relaxing time.

    My husband and I visited Akiu Onsen to relax and recover from the summer fatigue. The building is a bit old, but it was well-maintained and very clean. The private room bath was spacious enough to stretch out and soak up to the shoulders, and the open-air Onsen was wonderfully warm, helping to ease shoulder tension. Meals were served in our room with a smile as each course progressed, and we enjoyed them at just the right temperature alongside the Ryokan's original beer for a truly relaxing experience. Breakfast offered a wide variety of buffet options, making it fun to choose what to try. Despite being close to Sendai, it felt like an escape from daily life—a perfect time for rest and relaxation.

    Pairs well with alcohol.

    Dinner was delicious, complemented by the excellent service from the staff. Although I intended to eat lightly after overindulging in Sendai the previous night, the delicious food tempted me to enjoy both beer and sake. The front desk staff and those who guided me to the Room were all wonderful. It was my first visit in five years, but I will definitely return within the next five years. Thank you very much!

    The meals were delicious.

    We ordered a course meal that included steamed abalone and steak. Everything was delicious, and the portions were just right. However, the bedding was disappointing. It wasn't a bed but rather a futon with sponge-like protrusions, which made it difficult to sleep soundly.

    Beautiful Ryokan

    A well-maintained and clean Ryokan. Unlike some Ryokans where the owner or staff greet guests at the parking lot, this one does not offer such a service, likely due to a small but efficient team. The Room was clean and spacious. The meals were beautifully prepared by the chef in an open kitchen, showcasing intricate dishes that were absolutely delicious. The bath was large and comfortable. However, it was disappointing that there were no razors provided—male guests should bring their own razors. There was a free drink machine outside the dining area, which added value to the stay. It seems there was also a welcome drink available, but I didn’t notice it—perhaps better promotion at check-in would help highlight this feature. Breakfast was served buffet-style with made-to-order omelets prepared by the chef—a nice touch! Overall, it was a very satisfying stay at this Ryokan.

    The hostess welcomed us warmly. The distance from the entrance to the parking lot was quite far. The garden was impressive and beautiful, but it was under maintenance, so the pond had no water, which felt a bit disappointing. We stayed on the 8th floor, and the view was fantastic. Since it had been recently renovated, the Room, sink area, and toilet were all new and very satisfying. However, it was unfortunate that the toothbrush in the amenities remained hard as before; I hope they switch to softer brushes. The meals were delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed the spacious bath facilities. Although you need to go down more than 20 steps to access the open-air bath, its temperature was just right. We would love to stay here again!

    They kindly accommodated our request to change the grilled abalone to sashimi, and even upgraded us to a larger Room since it was available. The service was excellent. The food was delicious, there were plenty of drinks, and we ended up eating too much because everything was so satisfying.

    It became the best memory with my grandfather.

    My 90-year-old grandfather and I, visiting from Korea, decided to stay at a Ryokan for the first time together. We wanted to make it special, so we chose a slightly more luxurious accommodation. The staff's hospitality exceeded all expectations, and my grandfather was deeply moved every single time. The meals were incredibly delicious, especially the in-room dining which was perfectly paced to match our timing, allowing us to enjoy it leisurely. The beer lounge was also fantastic! The staff there were so friendly and charming that I ended up having three glasses instead of just one! At the end of our stay, the staff waved goodbye at the entrance until we left. My grandfather was touched by this gesture and kept talking about it—it truly became a trip of a lifetime for us. Thank you so much for everything! We will definitely come back again!

    I stayed for one nig...

    I stayed for one night with my travel-loving parents. We were provided with a room larger than the one we reserved, and my parents were delighted and relaxed. My mother, who loves fresh greenery, enjoyed naming the flowers in the garden visible from the window. Since it was right after Golden Week, there were few group guests, and we could leisurely enjoy the open-air bath before dinner—it felt almost like a private bath and was absolutely wonderful. The white bath bag provided for guests was just the right size and very convenient. We had reserved dinner at 5:45 PM, so after soaking in the bath, we enjoyed original beer at the counter of "Bakushuya," which I had been looking forward to based on reviews. My father ordered a medium-sized mug while I had a glass. The beer was smooth and tempting to order more, but since abalone and Sendai beef steak awaited us as part of our Ryokusuitei Gozen meal set, I held back... though my father went ahead with his second round (laughs). The woman serving our table during dinner had such a lovely smile that her service made our meal even more enjoyable. The abalone was fresh enough to still be moving until just before cooking; when paired with butter and lemon juice, it melted in our mouths—soft and delicious! Even my parents who usually dislike raw abalone were surprised by how tasty it was. The Sendai beef steak was also excellent; while I wished there had been slightly more of it for myself, my parents found it to be just right as they savored every bite. At breakfast buffet time in the morning, chefs prepared omelets on demand—the cheese-filled ones were incredibly delicious! Highly recommended! They even made cute custom omelets for children. Although there wasn’t any water in the garden pond due to long-term maintenance work during this visit, next time I'd love to take a stroll around their beautiful garden area too!

    Beyond expectations.

    For the price, we enjoyed the wonderful history and stunning garden. Although it was just breakfast, I believe you can also savor local cuisine from the Tohoku region. It is a great Ryokan that makes me want to visit again.

    Relaxing Onsen

    The availability of a shuttle service from Sendai Station and the fact that dinner was not a buffet were deciding factors for making the reservation. ・Onsen I used the onsen four times and was able to relax as there were few users during those times. My companion had just recovered from a foot injury, so we were concerned about the stairs to the open-air bath, but with anti-slip measures and handrails in place, there were no issues. However, it was difficult to notice some steps inside the open-air bath, so having illustrations or warnings would be helpful. The bonfire at night created a magical atmosphere that made me stay longer than planned. ・Room The double sinks in the room were very convenient as it avoided any hassle during morning preparations. However, I found many of the power outlets inconveniently located (personally), so having an extension cord available for charging smartphones would be useful. ・Facility The elevator closest to our room was narrow and often crowded, so we used another elevator located further away. It’s advisable to allow extra time when moving luggage around. ・Service During check-in, I appreciated that they marked points on the facility map for guidance; however, upon reviewing it later in my room, I noticed discrepancies between where dinner was marked on the map and what was listed on its reverse side. I called reception for clarification. While this map with markings is very helpful due to how spacious the facility is, ensuring accurate information would improve convenience further. All staff members provided kind assistance throughout our stay; particularly memorable were those who helped confirm dinner details at reception, served us during dinner service, and prepared egg dishes at breakfast. Having previously visited Akiu Onsen for a day trip before staying overnight had been something I looked forward to doing someday—it turned out to be such a relaxing trip! If given another opportunity in future visits here again someday soon—especially amidst autumn foliage season—I’d love nothing more than returning back once more!

    The warm hospitality and attentiveness of the staff were truly delightful, and the facility was impeccably clean, making my stay extremely comfortable. The meals were so delicious that I couldn't help but indulge a little too much. I will definitely choose to stay here again when visiting Akiu.

    Frequent communication errors occurred due to being overly analog.

    We stayed in a room with a private open-air bath for two nights, including breakfast and dinner, to celebrate my partner's birthday. As it was a surprise trip, I had been coordinating via email about meal times and shuttle bus usage for a month prior to our stay. On the day of arrival, an elderly woman at the reception assisted us; while she seemed informed about our plans, there was an air of haste that made me slightly uneasy. The next day, despite having reserved our dinner time well in advance and confirming it before heading out, we received a call saying that "the 7 PM dinner slot you reserved is now fully booked." Although I felt frustrated since this had been arranged a month ago, we managed to have dinner at 7 PM amidst some confusion. The food was delicious enough to ease my irritation. On the following morning, we had reserved breakfast at 7 AM but were told upon arrival that "it’s scheduled for 8 AM." Again, I clarified that this reservation was made one month ago and confirmed during check-in. Eventually, we were seated at a spacious table without further issues. However, these repeated mistakes began to build unease. What prompted me to write this review happened on the final day during checkout. The same elderly woman from check-in handled our checkout process just 15 minutes before departure time as the lobby was crowded with guests causing delays. We needed to catch the shuttle bus but her slow explanations pushed us close to missing it entirely. After confirming if we were using the shuttle bus service and finishing up just moments before its departure time—despite assuming they would ensure space for us—the shuttle left without us! My partner and I exchanged shocked glances as nearby staff (possibly the manager?) asked repeatedly for my name due to hearing difficulties which embarrassed me further by having to shout it multiple times. Eventually they offered transportation via microbus after stopping another bus mid-route which only added more awkwardness when boarding in front of other passengers waiting roadside instead of directly taking their microbus option initially suggested internally frustratingly thought better suited overall situation avoiding unnecessary embarrassment altogether! While aspects like baths or attentive service provided by attendants exceeded expectations unfortunately overshadowed negatively impacted experience leaving worst impression end otherwise enjoyable stay disappointing conclusion overall mood soured significantly

    Popular Accommodation

    A popular accommodation, the large shuttle bus from Sendai Station was fully booked. The open-air bath is located down an outdoor staircase, and guests are advised to wrap themselves in a bath towel. Unfortunately, my used bath towel was taken by another guest, leaving me cold as I returned to the main bath. It would have been nice if there were towel racks near the open-air bath. It was enjoyable to listen to a concert in the lobby; however, since the lobby was cold, dressing warmly is recommended to avoid catching a cold. Dinner had excellent menu options, flavors, and service. However, breakfast felt like being in a school trip dining hall atmosphere and was disappointing. Considering its affordable price point, it’s understandable for this Onsen accommodation.

    Kagaribi Gozen at Kagaribi no Yu

    I took my parents, who are over 85 years old, on this trip. The Onsen was pleasant and satisfying, but the distance to the Kagari-bi open-air bath was a bit far... My father only went once, and my mother didn't go at all. I visited three times and enjoyed every visit. For elderly guests, I recommend not overexerting themselves... but it is worth a visit. For dinner, we had the Kagari-bi Gozen, which was delicious, filling, and left no leftovers. The breakfast buffet was also abundant in variety and very tasty. Especially, the recommended waffles were outstanding. The dining Room was spacious and provided a pleasant atmosphere. The souvenir shop inside the facility had a wide selection, and the beer at the beer counter after the Onsen was excellent. I was very satisfied, but... my parents found the facility too large and worried about getting lost, so they relaxed in the Room. The Room was spacious, and they seemed satisfied with its comfort.
