    I’ve stayed here several times.

    Tamba-Sasayama shows many different sides with each season, and it feels like a wonderful town no matter how many times you visit. Among them, staying at NIPPONIA in the heart of Kawaramachi Street makes for a truly special experience. Breakfast offers a wide variety of dishes. The locally grown Dekansho rice was excellent, and the miso soup made with black soybean miso was especially delicious.

    I couldn’t relax.

    Points of dissatisfaction - The entire Room had an unpleasant odor (the toilet smelled like sewage). - Too many steps/level differences, making it dangerous. - I almost hit my head going up and down the stairs. - There was not enough lighting and it was too dark; I borrowed a small reading light, but it was completely insufficient. - There was no space to relax. - Breakfast seemed to be pre-made items simply plated (the rice was pleasantly chewy and tasty).

    It was a relaxing moment.

    My husband had long been interested in NIPPONIA, so we visited looking forward to enjoying the atmosphere of a historic castle town. The building retains its old charm both inside and out, while the bathrooms have been thoughtfully renovated for comfort and convenience. There were a few spots—such as parts of the interior walls—where I felt a cleaner finish might have been nice, but my husband said, “This is exactly how it should be.” Both dinner and breakfast were carefully prepared and delicious. We also appreciated that the in-Room refrigerator items were complimentary. All of the staff were full of genuine hospitality. We had a wonderful stay, and my husband is already talking about staying at Kurayoshi NIPPONIA next time.

    Traveling with Your Dog

    The service, Room, and meals were excellent. Unfortunately, the weather was not great, but the Hotel was wonderful, so it was a great trip overall. However, it would have been better if the in-room dog run had been maintained a bit more.

    A luxurious moment to savor the charm of a historic castle town.

    I stayed at NIPPONIA HOTEL Sasayama, which I had long admired, during the pleasant season in April. Among the many buildings, I chose Room 101 in the “ONAE” building, once the residence of a former bank owner, and it was an even more wonderful stay than I expected. While preserving the charm of the historic structure to the fullest, amenities such as the bed were modern and spotless. I didn’t feel any of the inconveniences often associated with traditional houses. Unlike some Reviews mentioning coldness or other discomforts, I found no particular issues—the Room was extremely comfortable. In complete quiet, I was able to savor time passing slowly and luxuriously. The Hotel’s location is lovely, and a short walk brings you to a beautiful castle town streetscape that still retains traces of the Edo period. Strolling leisurely along these historic streets under gentle spring sunlight was truly peaceful. The ruins of Sasayama Castle and former samurai residences are also within walking distance. Most memorable of all was the attentive hospitality from the staff. From arrival onward they guided me with great care and kindness, and their warm manner helped me relax immediately. They were highly knowledgeable about both the building’s history and local attractions, and in every explanation I could feel their genuine love for this town. Delicious cuisine, Rooms rich with history, and smiling staff—everything came together for an exceptional holiday. I would absolutely like to return in another season. Thank you for such a wonderful time.

    I was able to spend a quiet, relaxing time.

    Living without a TV brought me a surprisingly calm, unhurried time. The serene atmosphere of this traditional house was even more soothing. I realized that having such peaceful moments is almost impossible in city life. I’d love to come back and stay again to unwind.

    The renovated Room, converted from a traditional storehouse, may feel cool and have a musty smell.

    Dinner was stylish, and the dessert selection was excellent! However, the renovated Room in a former storehouse felt cold and had a musty smell, so it was hard to relax. The front desk staff were friendly in conversation, but key checks and other procedures were unclear, which made them seem inexperienced.

    A Trip from the Tango Peninsula to Tamba-Sasayama

    I stayed on April 10. Although I arrived earlier than the scheduled arrival time, they kindly helped me with the check-in process. They also let me use the parking lot and provided detailed guidance about the area, so I was able to take a leisurely walk around Sasayama Castle and enjoy a relaxing time. Thank you very much.

    A welcoming Accommodation with warm hospitality

    This was my first time staying at NIPPONIA. The Accommodation’s website mentioned that, as it is a historic building, insulation might be insufficient, but that turned out to be completely unfounded. It was warm and comfortable throughout my stay. The next morning, I needed to leave early and thought I wouldn’t be able to have breakfast, but the staff spoke with the chef and arranged for it to be prepared an hour earlier than the usual serving time. Even though both the chef and staff may have had to start earlier than planned, they served us without a hint of displeasure, which I truly appreciated. It seemed like there were many young staff members, but I felt that everyone was attentive and genuinely cared about ensuring guests could spend their time comfortably. I would love to stay again.

    Some reviews mentioned feeling cold depending on the room, so we prepared some items to stay warm before arriving at the accommodation. However, the indoor heating was warm, there were plenty of cushions, and we had a comfortable stay. Additionally, a humidifier was provided in the toilet located in the earthen floor area, so we didn’t feel cold at all. The only issue was that the gas stove in our room’s earthen floor area seemed to be malfunctioning; if it had worked better, it might have been warmer there as well. The beverages provided in the room were great, and since our dining location wasn’t far from our building within this dispersed-style accommodation facility, we could enjoy a peaceful and pleasant time without any inconvenience.     I visited during the relaxed time after the New Year holidays.

    I visited after the holidays to avoid the crowds. I stayed in Room 902 of the longhouse accommodation, and with no other guests in the neighboring rooms, it felt like having an entire building to myself, allowing for a peaceful stay! Initially, I was assigned Room 901, but they kindly accommodated my sudden request to change rooms. I was thrilled to stay in the room I wanted—truly exceptional service from Nipponia! The food and paired drinks were absolutely delicious without any complaints. Although my room was separate from the main accommodation building, shuttle service made transportation smooth and convenient. Above all, the attentiveness and excellent service of the staff are why I visit Nipponia every year—it’s simply outstanding!

    Winter Stay in a Traditional Japanese House

    The traditional architecture of the building was charming and enjoyable. However, during winter in Tamba Sasayama, seniors accustomed to city living may find it chilly even with heating in the Room, especially when moving around. The staff's warm and attentive service was excellent. While preserving the vintage character of the building, improving functionality in less visible areas could make opening doors and moving around more comfortable.

    As this is a renovated traditional house, we were prepared for some quirks, but the small windows on the second floor and the low beams caused us to bump our heads twice. It might be helpful to hang something like a curtain on the beams as a warning.

    Dinner features wild boar hot pot.

    I had a great experience during my first stay in September, so this time I stayed with my girlfriend from Thailand. Coincidentally, we were assigned the same Room as before, which made it easy to navigate and very comfortable. The Room is modernized within a renovated old house, providing a cozy atmosphere even during the colder seasons. The Hotel's service was excellent, with attentive staff ensuring an enjoyable and fulfilling stay. For dinner, we specially requested wild boar hot pot (botan nabe). The specialty restaurant was only about a 5-minute walk away, so it was very convenient. The meal was truly delicious, and my Thai girlfriend also enjoyed it thoroughly.

    Solo Travel

    I traveled alone, and the kind hospitality made it a wonderful trip. The Room had a traditional charm while being clean and offering a unique atmosphere. The Shuttle Service was memorable, with explanations about the town during the ride, and I appreciated having my Room located away from the front desk.     It was an accommodation with wonderful hospitality!

    I really love the concept of NIPPONIA! The rooms and all areas are charming and spacious, with great attention to detail in the cuisine. Each dish is beautifully presented, and the tableware is exquisite! Being all-inclusive, the accommodation fee was very reasonable, which I truly appreciated. All the staff were polite and kind, and I especially loved this NIPPONIA in Tamba Sasayama! Since many sightseeing spots were closed during my visit, it gave me a reason to come back here again. Next time, I’d like to stay in a different room! The staff member who assisted me during check-in responded sincerely to my requests, leaving a warm impression that makes me look forward to meeting them again on my next visit. This accommodation has become a wonderful memory of my trip!

    Quiet and relaxing

    The location of the Hotel was a bit hard to find. The renovated Room in the traditional house was excellent. The Facility was on par with a luxury Hotel, and there were no inconveniences. There was no TV, which turned out to be a positive aspect. However, the slow WiFi was disappointing. I opted for an all-inclusive plan and enjoyed the alcohol selection thoroughly. The meals were creative and outstanding, not to mention delicious. The bed suited me perfectly, allowing for a restful sleep.

    Meals

    It is inconvenient to have to go to a distant location. It was disappointing that the restaurant had no partitions and guests were seated close to each other. Additionally, it was unacceptable that meal requests could not be accommodated at all, which was disappointing. This is despite the accommodation costing a considerable amount. However, the response from the front desk staff was excellent. Whether I would use this accommodation again is uncertain.

    Thank you for the wonderful time.

    I was curious about staying in a room renovated from an old Japanese house, so I made a reservation. It seemed there were several rooms within the same building, but each felt like an independent home. From the room, I could enjoy a view of the garden and spend a relaxing time. The toilet and bathroom had new facilities, making my stay very comfortable. For breakfast, the miso soup was made with locally produced Tamba Sasayama miso, which was incredibly delicious. I asked the staff where to buy it and brought some home. It was an accommodation experience unlike any usual trip, and my child absolutely loved it!

    The impression changes depending on the Room.

    We stayed at VMG Comfort. Our room was on the second floor of the main building, directly above the restaurant. While we were aware during the reservation that "soundproofing is not high," it was still difficult to relax due to not only the restaurant's BGM and conversations among guests but also loud noises from staff conversations and dragging chairs after the restaurant closed (likely preparing for breakfast). Additionally, since there was no TV, I planned to read a book; however, the room was much darker than expected (which aligns with the accommodation's concept), making reading impossible. With constant noise from downstairs and a dark room unsuitable for reading, we ended up spending time individually looking at our smartphones with earphones on instead of experiencing an extraordinary stay as imagined. On top of that, we received repeated explanations about hotel membership registration during both dinner and breakfast twice, which left something to be desired in terms of service quality. Overall, it left us with a less favorable impression; however, since ours seemed to be the only room located above the restaurant, staying in another room might have resulted in a different experience.

    I was very satisfied!

    This was my first stay at this accommodation. The room, originally a renovated storehouse, was compact yet equipped with all necessities, allowing for a comfortable and hassle-free stay. It was also impeccably clean, making it very pleasant to use. The meals were delicious, and since it was an all-inclusive plan, I could enjoy various alcoholic beverages during meals to my heart's content. Additionally, the drinks in the room's refrigerator could be replenished upon request, so I enjoyed plenty of sparkling wine as well as white and red wine in the room. Above all, the staff's hospitality was exceptional. The staff member who assisted us during check-in provided detailed explanations while sharing local stories about Sasayama city, which enhanced not only our experience at the accommodation but also our exploration of the town itself. This made for a truly wonderful stay. I feel confident recommending this accommodation to others with peace of mind. Thank you very much!

    Heavy Snow in Niwa Sasayama

    Dinner was a Botan Nabe Plan. There was a reservation date arrangement mistake, but we were able to have our meal safely thanks to the response. The loin meat was very delicious, and the chestnut miso was exquisite. We were torn between finishing with udon, rice porridge, or Chinese noodles but had no space in our stomachs and gave up. The room is a maisonette with a bath, toilet, and washbasin downstairs and beds and a Japanese-style room upstairs. It is very warm with an air conditioner and fan heater. There are blankets on the bed, but since it gets cold at your feet, an electric blanket or hot water bottle is necessary to prevent coldness. We were healed by the aroma of coffee at the entrance coffee shop and the kindness of the master. Breakfast - The side dishes were very delicious, and the rice was even more delicious. Thanks to careful service for sending us off to the station, we could comfortably make it in time for our limited express train. Despite heavy snow shoveling from check-in until departure, we had a pleasant stay. Thank you very much.

    Hospitality

    I made a reservation because I wanted to eat boar hot pot in Sasayama. I was also looking forward to staying at nipponia HOTEL once. I was able to spend my time as if I were living, blending into the townscape. Thank you to all the staff for kindly accommodating various requests. The dinner at Botan-tei and the breakfast at the hotel were delicious and satisfying. There were many types of free drinks in the refrigerator, and I enjoyed tasting various ones. I stayed on a day when it was extremely cold with a light layer of snow, and since it was an old folk house, I was prepared for the coldness of the room. I intended to warm up in the cypress bath, but I wish I had been informed in advance about the time it takes to fill the bath and the tank capacity. Also, the stone-like tile floor in the bathroom and washroom, where I had to walk barefoot, was extremely cold and difficult to bear.

    It might be a hidden gem!

    It was my first time staying in a traditional Japanese house. As mentioned, there was no soundproofing or airtightness, but I was very satisfied with the delicious French meals and desserts, and there were plenty of drinks in the refrigerator. It was cold, and I'm not used to sitting on the floor, so I think it would have been great if there was a sunken kotatsu in the room. The shuttle service to the station and meals was also enjoyable.     After checking in, I...

    After checking in, I tried to fill the bath immediately, but the water tank was empty, and I couldn't fill the bath. I called immediately to confirm, but the response was, "We don't know when the water will fill up, sorry." Since we had a baby, we planned to take a bath together before dinner and put the baby to sleep after dinner, so we reserved a room with a large bath. Later, we were told we would be guided to a replacement room with the same size room and bath, but upon asking for details, it turned out to be a pet-friendly room. If we had agreed immediately, we would have been guided to a pet-friendly room without any confirmation, despite having allergies, which was very unpleasant. After that, we were told we could be guided to a household bath, but considering we were paying to stay at the property, a household bath was unthinkable, and we ended up waiting for the water tank to fill up, which was only possible at 8 PM after dinner. It seemed the manager came to check the bath during dinner, but since the bath was filled after dinner, there was no apology from the manager or anyone in charge. There was also no proper apology from the staff who checked the bath with us after dinner. Despite the discomfort of not being able to take a bath after checking in, they only provided responses that caused us loss, showing no sincerity at all. Other reviews also mentioned similar experiences, so this is the kind of property it is. I will never stay at this property or this chain again.

    Best for when you want to take it slow.

    I was able to stay in a nostalgic building and spend a relaxing time. There was also a stove in the dirt floor area, which kept it warm. Although the bath was small, it reminded me of the baths from my childhood, and I was able to soak in the tub quite leisurely. I thought it would have been nice if the room lighting could be brighter, as it was a bit dim. I was surprised that the drinks, including alcohol, in the refrigerator were free to enjoy, and I indulged in them after the bath. I couldn't have dinner as it was fully booked, so next time I would like to make a reservation early. I thought the Japanese breakfast was a must-have. There were many accompaniments for the rice, and it was very delicious. I heard that there are properties all over the whole country, so I would like to visit other hotels as well. The staff were very kind, and I was able to spend a wonderful day, thank you very much.
