It was excellent.
Overall, it was excellent. The hospitality, especially during dinner and breakfast, was outstanding. The room layout and comfort were exceptional, and having an onsen in the room felt truly luxurious. The meals were filled with Yamagata's local ingredients, giving a healthy impression. The onsen's water quality and temperature were perfect, making me want to bathe multiple times. This is an accommodation I would love to stay at again when visiting Yamagata. Thank you very much!

Tohoku National Treasure Temple Tour
Upon arriving at the accommodation by rental car, I was surprised to be greeted by a staff member seemingly out of nowhere. I looked around wondering if they had been watching from somewhere—perhaps a hidden camera? It was an impressive and thoughtful welcome. When asked, "Where did you visit today?" I answered, but later when another staff member came to our room, they said, "You visited Yamadera and Zao today. You must be tired." I was impressed by how even small details about guests are shared among the team. This accommodation has only seven rooms, and the room we stayed in as a couple was called "Hitori Shizuka." The room was very spacious and beautifully designed—it didn’t feel like it belonged in the middle of town. Everything in the room was clean and comfortable; there were fresh flowers arranged in the alcove that added a touch of extraordinary beauty to our everyday lives. The bath featured natural hot spring water flowing directly from its source with mineral deposits floating gently—a truly relaxing experience. The changing area had underfloor heating, equipment for quickly drying bath towels on the wall, as well as air conditioning to keep your feet warm while ensuring you feel refreshed after bathing—such thoughtful amenities were greatly appreciated. The amenities included separate items for men and women. Typically accommodations provide either a brush or comb—but this place offered both! My wife remarked with delight that this level of attention showed true care. Each dish served during meals demonstrated great thoughtfulness; meats were cooked perfectly, everything arrived at an ideal temperature for enjoyment, and these details reflected not only care but also glimpses into the chef’s dedication to their craft. Although I don’t drink alcohol at all myself, my wife enjoys it occasionally. She ordered a “Six-Sake Tasting Set” and particularly loved “Soumura,” commenting on how delicious it was. From every aspect—the accommodation itself, its staff members’ hospitality efforts down through cuisine preparation alongside exceptional bathing facilities—we felt completely satisfied emotionally while being thoroughly refreshed physically too! It was exquisite Japanese cuisine.
Stayed for one night during the last week of May. ① The room, hallway, and bathroom all have a spacious and calming atmosphere. ② The Onsen water is very gentle and pleasant. ③ Both dinner and breakfast were prepared with care for the ingredients, without any overpowering flavors, making them easy to enjoy. ④ There were no unnecessary services, allowing for a relaxing and comfortable stay—much appreciated.

A memorable and wonderful accommodation.
I was amazed by the wonderful Room upon arrival. The bath in the Room was so relaxing that I used it multiple times during my stay. The massage chair also felt very high-quality. The meals featured seasonal mountain vegetables, and the presentation, including the dishes, allowed us to enjoy not only the taste but also the visual appeal. My family and I talked about how incredible the chef must be while enjoying our meal. It truly helped relieve our daily fatigue. Thank you for allowing us to stay comfortably until the 12:00 checkout and for providing Shuttle Service as well.

Impressions
I had a relaxing time after a long while. The open-air bath was amazing. The meals were elegant, and they even made rice balls from leftover rice at breakfast—such thoughtful service. I would love to visit again!

I was able to relax during my second stay as well!
This was our first visit in four and a half years since our initial stay. This time, you kindly upgraded our Room free of charge, and we were delighted the moment we arrived. As expected, the Room was spacious, and we could truly relax in comfort. Both the Onsen in the large public bath and the open-air bath in the Room are fed directly from the source—everything was perfect. Simply amazing. The meals included Yamagata’s signature imoni stew, and we could also upgrade to Yonezawa beef sirloin as an option, making it fun to compare different dishes. We ended up enjoying plenty of sake and other drinks as well. At checkout, you even gave us a white rice ball as a souvenir with a message attached, which made this trip especially memorable. We’ll be sure to stay at Sanzashi again someday when we travel to Tohoku.

Delicious cuisine and a private Onsen open-air bath attached to the room
We encountered unexpected train troubles on the day, but you kindly came to pick us up right away, which was a great help! The Room had a traditional Japanese style, and the sunken kotatsu made dining very comfortable. The meals were all delicious and thoughtfully prepared, perfectly suited for our preference for lighter flavors. The open-air bath with natural hot spring water was absolutely amazing! The hospitality with just the right balance of attentiveness made our stay relaxing as a couple. Thank you so much!

This is my second visit. I enjoyed the quiet and spacious guest room, the large private open-air bath, and the flowing Onsen. The 2:00 PM check-in and 12:00 PM check-out times provide a relaxed and pleasant experience.

It was a wonderful accommodation.
I had to cancel my reservation once due to illness, but I really wanted to go, so I visited the hospital the day before and was prescribed plenty of medication to ensure I was in perfect condition. With only 7 rooms in the accommodation, I didn’t encounter anyone even at the large public bath. The room was quiet and comfortable with thoughtful arrangements. It truly is a wonderful accommodation that left me deeply impressed. Meals served in the room were delightful. For breakfast, we could choose between Japanese or Western-style meals. I opted for Western-style, and everything was absolutely delicious—especially the croissants, which were outstanding. The private open-air bath in my room was slightly hot, while the water temperature at the large public bath was just right. The entire accommodation is peaceful and relaxing; by morning, my health had significantly improved. During dinner, they even showed concern for my condition—I felt very grateful for their kindness. However, the bedroom felt quite dry despite using a humidifier—it still seemed parched. For breakfast rice cooked in an earthen pot was made into salted rice balls for us to take along. I enjoyed them on my way back on the bullet train—the saltiness was perfect and highlighted how delicious their rice truly is. I would love to visit again!

Relax and Unwind at a Hot Spring Accommodation in Early Spring
The season of "three cold days and four warm days" brings a sense of approaching spring, marking my third visit here. Traveling by bullet train, I was amazed by the snow-covered mountains and the hazy scenery caused by yellow dust. Upon arrival, I enjoyed a cup of cherry blossom-scented tea before heading to the open-air bath in the large public bathhouse as usual. Slowly but surely, both my mind and body felt completely relaxed. Gazing at the pale yellow blossoms of cornelian cherry trees in front of me, I immediately felt the presence of spring. This time, I stayed in a special room with a spacious private open-air bath; however, I still adore the open-air bath in the public area. For dinner, I indulged in Yonezawa beef shabu-shabu paired perfectly with dry red wine from Oura Winery—a delightful combination indeed! The chef's spring menu featured exquisite dishes complemented by refreshing craft IPA beer and bold local sake tasting sets that enhanced every bite. Among them, the salt-crusted flounder was an extraordinary dish that earned high praise. Additionally, fig-infused chocolate truffles were an excellent pairing with wine and brought me great joy. The staff member assigned to our room provided exceptional service once again, making our stay incredibly comfortable—thank you very much! Despite being far away from home, I'm already contemplating when to visit again. Looking forward to next time!

The meals are delicious.
We were welcomed by young staff and, even before check-in, they guided us to our room. To reach the guest room with an open-air bath, you walk along a corridor while enjoying the view of the courtyard. With the cold wave, it became a snow-view bath; my face felt the chill while my body was in the hot water—an excellent experience. The size of the bathtub was perfect as it allowed me to soak up to my shoulders comfortably. The simmered Nodoguro for dinner had an exquisite seasoning that wasn't overly sweet and was delicious. All of the sake in the tasting set had a pleasant aroma and paired well with our meal due to their crisp dryness. If you're unsure about breakfast options, go for Western-style; I would love to have their salted sauce omelet again. This is definitely a property I would like to visit again.

After all, it's the best.
This time, I was impressed once again by the wonderful attitude towards customers despite an accident. The hospitality is outstanding, the food is excellent, and the Onsen goes without saying. They always stay close to their guests and fulfill our wishes as much as possible. I intend to keep coming back until I die unless things change. You can retreat to your Room and let yourself be carried away by the slow passage of time, enter the large open-air bath in your Room whenever you feel like it, and enjoy gourmet cuisine. It feels like both the food and Facility are improving every time we visit, not to mention the service. The meat is exceptional; vegetables are truly delicious; I was moved by both the simmered nodoguro fish and sake lees dessert! From the first dish to dessert, everything is filled with love and tastes amazing. I think this Ryokan is one where everyone working there stays close to their guests in an exemplary manner. I'm looking forward to a few days here again so that I can work hard! Although I'm a demanding guest, please take care of me again next time too. Thank you very much for your special consideration this time! I'm sincerely looking forward to seeing everyone again soon.

It was heavy snow.
It was a great snowstorm, but we were warmly welcomed. Due to the suspension of the Shinkansen, the sudden check-out from the room was handled promptly and pleasantly. It was a property I would definitely like to visit again.

Snow-viewing bath
It was a very lovely Property. The service was very polite, kind, and made us feel the spirit of hospitality. It was very comfortable. We are truly grateful for accommodating our requests. Thank you very much. We were able to enjoy a snow-view bath in the Room, and had a truly relaxing and wonderful time. The meals were very delicious, with a variety of options to choose from, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Just one thing, I thought it would be nice if the amenities could be a bit more luxurious. It was truly the best Property. I would definitely like to visit again. Thank you very much.

The winter scenery from the Japanese-style room is also wonderful.
It was my first visit in five years. Thank you for your unchanging hospitality. If my memory serves me right, one of the staff members who attended to us seemed to be the same person who assisted us five years ago. I was impressed that you remembered my wife's food preferences. We visited on a cold midwinter day, but you welcomed us with a warm Room thanks to the air conditioning. Additionally, you provided a hot water bottle as it was expected to get chilly at dawn. The snowy scenery and futon in the Japanese-style room were charming and delightful. Although the Facility shows signs of aging, we had a comfortable stay. We would love to visit again.

I never want to go again...
The Room is a cheap, patched-up extension. Hard pillows and hard futons. Dried grilled crab. Dry, thin nodoguro. The potato stew and curry udon at the end saved us. To top it off, the male staff member who seemed to be the site manager was hysterical. Thank you to the staff. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Nagomi no Yuyado
Last time, we visited in the beautiful month of May with cherry blossoms, but this time it's early winter!! This season is perfect for fully enjoying the onsen, and marks the beginning of a family trip with my husband and eldest son, three of us. Our room this time, "Hanaikada," is truly a private retreat. First, we soaked in the source of the spacious public bath and fully relaxed in the massage chair. Our eldest son, who joined us in Tokyo, seemed to quickly recover from his hectic work schedule and felt the benefits of the onsen. One of the highlights, the first day's dinner menu was exquisite, and we enjoyed comparing local sake. The curry udon following the imoni was particularly impressive. Our son also picked up various local craft beers as souvenirs. Since it was a multiple night stay, we explored the town on the second day. We enjoyed visiting a soba restaurant, a Yonezawa beef specialty store, and a liquor store with a wide selection of local wines, all recommended by the property. Among them, the daifuku from "Anbin Tanakaya," which opens at 7 AM and sells out by noon, was the best. On the second day, we savored Yonezawa beef shabu-shabu. The attentiveness and consideration of the room staff were excellent, making our stay very comfortable, which was the biggest point. The hot water bottle placed in the futon at bedtime was a warm service unique to this season. Both my husband and son slept well and were very satisfied. We had already made a reservation for the end of January next year, but due to an urgent matter, we had to cancel it with regret. It's very disappointing. Next time, we plan to increase the number of multiple night stays. Thank you to all the staff for taking care of us.

First stay for wedding anniversary
This was my third visit to Akayu Onsen, and my first stay at Sanshuyu. We stayed for our wedding anniversary this time, and we are very grateful for all the thoughtful gestures, which made for many wonderful memories. The size of the room we reserved was ample, with an open-air bath that could comfortably fit about three people, and there were two sinks. Above all, having meals served in the room was greatly appreciated, allowing us to enjoy delicious food while watching TV in the comfort of our room, rather than in a private dining area. The staff's hospitality was excellent, making our stay very pleasant. As we love Yamagata Prefecture, we definitely want to visit Sanshuyu again. We look forward to staying with you again in the future.

I will definitely visit again in the near future.
I spontaneously decided to go to a hot spring and found this inn while searching on Ikkyu. I read in the reviews that they don't accept solo guests, but I had no problem making a reservation and stayed for four nights. The four nights and five days flew by, and I wished I could have stayed longer. Until the day of arrival, I couldn't decide on the time to arrive at the nearest station, and during this stay, I made various requests, but they always responded courteously. Thanks to them, my stay was very fulfilling. The room showed signs of aging, but I thought it was generally kept very clean. The room had an open-air bath, so there were times when other guests were in their rooms, but it didn't particularly bother me. I also went to the large bath and was able to relax leisurely without meeting anyone. As for the food, the broth was delicious, to say the least. It's noteworthy in Japanese cuisine that they also please the eyes, but the taste was equally as wonderful as the presentation. During my stay, they served different dishes for dinner each time, and the Yonezawa beef kaiseki on the first day was truly impressive. It was a feast of Yonezawa beef from start to finish, living up to its name. The staff, including the attendant who took care of my room, were all wonderful and seemed to be filled with a spirit of hospitality. It has become an inn I definitely want to revisit in the near future.

I want to leave a review, but I don't want to be thought of as a fake reviewer. When I looked at the reviews, there were some rather harsh comments, but there were absolutely no problems with the facilities, food, or hospitality. On the contrary, it was great. I visit more than 20 rooms with open-air baths annually, and this is definitely among the top. I will repeat my visit. The lady serving us was very attentive, and the order of the sake was perfect.
