    It was very relaxing.

    I read the reviews in advance and visited with great anticipation. It more than met my expectations—I enjoyed the Onsen and the meals and was able to truly relax. Thank you very much. The Onsen and large public bath were almost like having them to ourselves, so we could take our time, and the open-air bath in the Room was easy to use and at a comfortable temperature. The massage chair was also excellent. Dinner featured a menu centered on Yonezawa beef and local vegetables, which we enjoyed along with wine from Akayu. Many of the dishes were carefully prepared, and the portions were just right. It was great that we could choose a Western-style breakfast. I felt this was also just the right amount and selection, but it was a shame that there was ice in the fruit juice. If possible, I would have preferred it straight, and it would be nice if refills were available. Overall, I was impressed by the attentive service that really highlights what’s special about a small Accommodation. I hope to visit again in a different season.

    This Accommodation offers an exceptional bath.

    The baths had plenty of mineral deposits, and both the open-air bath and the in-Room bath were great. The meals were wonderful, but I would have liked a bit more creativity—especially at breakfast; I think it would be fine to at least provide tea. Overall, it is a well-maintained Accommodation, but it may be worth reconsidering which services are truly necessary from the guest’s perspective—for example, whether guests really want to grind coffee beans themselves and pour hot water to make coffee. The TV was very old and did not support Netflix or other modern features, which was a bit disappointing. However, the hospitality and baths were excellent. These are small things, but it might be worth shifting where your attention to detail is focused.

    It was a wonderful stay.

    An Exceptionally Attentive Accommodation Whenever I stay at this Accommodation, I can truly relax and feel completely at ease. Once again, everything was taken care of in every detail. The reception setup has changed slightly, but it seems to be for an even better stay. The Room comfort and cleanliness, the bath facilities, and the thoughtful suggestions to help guests enjoy their stay more are easily in my personal top three. Sorry for ranking them on my own. This time there were only three groups staying, so it felt even quieter and more secluded. I didn’t run into any other guests, which allowed me to enjoy a private and fulfilling time. The bath was also well stocked with towels and amenities. For hair care, there were ReFa, Dyson, and a new KINUJO available. I tried them all and they were excellent. The hot spring water quality was wonderful, and I enjoyed the baths many times. Dinner was served in a tea-kaiseki style. It was a new approach for me as well, and everything was delicious. The late-night snack of bean rice at the end (the rice balls were exceptional). Breakfast—I chose the Western-style option. I had been looking forward to it because I still can’t forget the croissant I had before: moist yet crisp in texture, with homemade jam. Thank you for the wonderful meal. I’d love to be brought back again.

    An Oasis in the City

    We were completely satisfied with this Accommodation in every way. The bath was wonderfully refreshing with free-flowing water, and we enjoyed it three times. The meals were also thoughtfully served one dish at a time, timed so we could eat at a relaxed pace without being rushed—an impressive reflection of the staff’s hospitality. Our time at the Accommodation left both our hearts and stomachs full, and it became a truly wonderful 40th wedding anniversary memory. Thank you very much.

    I enjoyed exceptional cuisine and the Onsen at this small luxury Accommodation. The staff’s warm, attentive hospitality, the well-appointed Facilities and amenities, and the beautiful selection of tableware by Kyoto artisans all made for a wonderful holiday.

    The best Accommodation in every way

    I decided to travel to Akayu about two weeks in advance and chose this Accommodation at the last minute without much research, but it was so outstanding that I was amazed again and again. From the Shuttle Service and check-in to the private baths, Room, amenities, dinner, late-night snack, and breakfast—everything was not only flawless but far beyond my expectations. With this level of quality, if it were a foreign-owned Hotel, you’d easily be paying 3–5 times more—and even then it would be hard to find a stay like this. It’s so wonderful that I honestly want you to just book it and experience it for yourself rather than over-researching. I have a big appetite, but both dinner and breakfast were more than satisfying in portion (and of course in quality as well). Instead of the simple “let the ingredients speak” or home-style seasoning often found at Onsen Ryokan stays, you can enjoy truly refined dishes showcasing professional skill and creativity—while relaxing in your Room. For dinner, I also requested wine and sake pairings to match the meal. The explanations for each selection were excellent, the pairings were spot-on, and the pricing was very reasonable—highly recommended if you drink alcohol. I definitely want to stay again!!

    The Best Accommodation

    From the moment we arrived at the parking area—before we even parked—we were warmly welcomed and received wonderfully pleasant service. The Room was also excellent, with a relaxing atmosphere—simply perfect. The open-air bath was fed directly from the hot spring source, which made it even better. Dinner was served in the Room as a course meal using plenty of local ingredients, and it was truly delicious. When I mentioned my allergies, they were very considerate, so I could eat with peace of mind. Since this is a region famous for wine, I asked if there were any good places nearby, and they introduced an excellent liquor shop right in front of the Accommodation. The staff there were also friendly and wonderful. I highly recommend everyone visit. We stopped by after checkout, so we couldn’t do tastings because we had to drive, but they said you can sample an impressive variety. Even though we didn’t taste anything, their explanations tempted us—and we ended up buying five bottles. I wish we had gone before check-in (lol). It became a fantastic trip. We’d love to come again.

    From the warm welcome onward, this was the most wonderful Accommodation I have ever stayed at. Every dish was delicious, and the portions were just right—not too much. The Room was also very comfortable, and the open-air bath was amazing. I definitely want to come again.

    Still the best.

    A perfect 100/100 for the Facility, meals, Onsen, and service. Since it was under maintenance this time, we were a little worried before arriving, but it was unfounded. The place is filled with genuine hospitality, and we truly feel it is an Accommodation that puts guests first. Thank you so much for responding sincerely even to our rather selfish requests. The meals were outstanding—beautiful tableware, presentation, and flavor, all full of creativity and care. We tried horse meat for the first time this visit and it was delicious! And this is the only place where you can enjoy shabu-shabu with sesame sauce. Every time, getting here is a challenge because the Shinkansen stops or gets delayed, but your wonderful service made us forget all of that. We look forward to seeing all of you again—and to meeting the head chef’s cuisine once more. As one of the last oases for smokers, please do everything you can to protect it (haha). As long as nothing changes, we want to keep coming back again and again for life. Thank you very much. We hope the Japanese sake tasting set will return soon.

    This is the best Ryokan in every way.

    From check-in to check-out, the service struck a perfectly comfortable balance. The building and Room are old, but everything feels clean, and you can truly relax. The welcome herbal tea was so delicious that I felt it might be rude, but I ended up writing a thank-you note on the back of the receipt. I also loved having baked sweets and konpeito sugar candy. In the Room refrigerator, there were two each of water, juice, sour cocktails, and craft beer. There was also tea and coffee. The bath and toilet are completely separate, with an independent sink/vanity. There is one small TV in the bedroom and one large TV in the room with a massage chair. They also provide thoughtful extras—things you don’t necessarily need but are happy to have—like nail clippers, chargers, pencils, etc. The attention to detail is wonderful. Dinner is served in your Room (in a Japanese-style room). It’s a sunken kotatsu setup with floor heating, so it stays nice and warm. We had a Yonezawa beef-focused course: not only delicious but beautifully presented, with plenty of ingredients from Yamagata. The portions were just right all the way through. There’s also a great selection of reasonably priced drinks. For breakfast I chose Japanese-style dishes and enjoyed being able to try many items in small portions. The large public bath and open-air bath are available all night and are spacious enough. Towels and amenities are set out before you enter the baths, so you can go empty-handed. The detox water after bathing was excellent. The open-air bath in the Room was also incredibly relaxing—I used it more than 10 times. I appreciated having bathrobes as well as samue loungewear and yukata robes. Plenty of towels were provided too. In the lobby there is freshly ground coffee (from beans) and matcha tea; I heard it becomes a bar at night. It was truly an outstanding Ryokan from start to finish. I would love to visit again.

    We stayed here recen...

    We stayed here recently and had a truly wonderful experience. All of the staff welcomed us with warm hospitality, allowing us to relax both body and mind and enjoy a very happy time. Thank you sincerely for your thoughtful care. The meals featured plenty of Yonezawa beef and other Yamagata specialties, which we enjoyed to the fullest. Both the portion size and flavor were excellent. The open-air bath was also perfectly heated, leaving us deeply refreshed in both body and mind. It was so comfortable that we slept soundly, and my only regret is that we didn’t get a chance to use the large public bath. This is an Accommodation we would definitely like to visit again.

    Elegant accommodation located in the heart of the onsen town, perfect for a secluded stay.

    Despite concerns about snowfall in the mountainous area, access to Akayu Onsen via the national road was smooth and safe. We arrived at the accommodation by early afternoon, and even though it was before check-in time, we were kindly allowed to use the parking lot. This gave us the opportunity to leave our car and explore the onsen town. The room consisted of three spacious areas, featuring a living room with a sunken kotatsu and an en-suite open-air bath with heated flooring. There was also a mechanism for drying towels using aluminum heat. The facility included everything one might need, such as an air purifier, humidifier, and massage chair. The balance between traditional Japanese aesthetics and functionality made it incredibly comfortable. For coffee lovers, there was even equipment available for roasting beans—a thoughtful touch! This is truly an ideal accommodation where you can relax in an open-air bath without any worries, enjoy delicious meals, and rest on fluffy futons. If I had to mention one minor point—it would be that the placement of the massage chair right next to the window felt slightly inconvenient. Using it at night could lead to catching a chill after bathing or interference when lowering the rolling curtain due to its position near the chair (though this placement might be intentional for those who prefer cooling off after their bath). As someone who feels cold easily, I borrowed a blanket from the closet for extra warmth—thank you! Thank you very much for everything; I look forward to staying here again!

    Relaxing Accommodation

    I stayed here with my mother during our trip. We had a room with an open-air bath. Although the bath faced the roadway and some noise could be heard, the comfort of the onsen made it unnoticeable. The meals were carefully prepared and delicious, which satisfied my mother as well. The staff's attentive care allowed us to relax comfortably. While some parts of the facility show signs of age, they seemed to harmonize well with the atmosphere of this accommodation. I felt that this is a place where one might appreciate its charm even more as they grow older.

    The creative cuisine is excellent, and the staff is incredibly friendly.

    We stayed for one night with my elderly parents. In addition to the private room bath, there was a large public bath, allowing us to relax comfortably. We are grateful for the surprise fruit platter to celebrate our 64th wedding anniversary. Both dinner and breakfast were carefully explained dish by dish, which made us very happy. We enjoyed the meals leisurely in our own room without any worries, and everything was delicious.

    Enjoyed the cuisine and the private open-air bath attached to the Room.

    This time, I enjoyed the autumn ingredients of Yamagata. All the dishes were lightly seasoned and served in portions that were just right for a senior like me. The creative dishes were also delightful. In particular, the dish where leftover rice was made into crackers and added to mushroom thick soup impressed me as an innovative creation beyond just food waste reduction. The private open-air bath attached to the room had underfloor heating in the changing area and washing space, so my feet never got cold. Additionally, despite being a natural Onsen with free-flowing hot spring water, which can make temperature control challenging, it was perfectly adjusted to a comfortable level. Furthermore, I received detailed explanations about nearby sightseeing spots. After checking out, I visited a recommended Akayu Ramen shop and enjoyed the autumn foliage at Eboshiyama Park at its peak—allowing me to fully enjoy Akayu Onsen until the very end.

    It was an accommodation that met our expectations!

    Despite making the reservation just before the stay, the staff handled phone confirmations and other inquiries with great care. From check-in to check-out, I was deeply impressed by the staff's exceptional service. The room with a private open-air onsen was perfect in terms of facilities, equipment condition, and onsen water temperature for guests. The washroom and shower area were equipped with floor heating, showing thoughtful consideration for users. My companion used it multiple times throughout our stay, both day and night. Overall, I was extremely satisfied with this accommodation. I would love to stay here again if given the opportunity.

    The Best Accommodation

    Upon arrival at the accommodation, five staff members greeted us as soon as we parked the car, providing exceptional hospitality. The room was designed to overlook a courtyard, leaving a very profound impression. The private open-air bath in the room featured natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source, offering a luxurious experience. Although there was a thunderstorm during our bath, we enjoyed watching raindrops from reclining seats. Both dinner and breakfast were served in-room; dinner included a Yonezawa beef sukiyaki course, while breakfast featured a traditional Japanese meal set. Reservations are currently unavailable until January 31, 2026, but this is definitely a ryokan I would love to visit again.

    Three Sisters Celebrating Their 70th Year

    We stayed as a group of three women. We had informed in advance that we were staying to celebrate a 70th birthday. We were delighted with the complimentary celebratory drink and fruit platter, as well as the spacious room prepared for us. Thanks to this, we were able to celebrate the occasion with great satisfaction. The service was excellent, and the accommodation was impeccably clean, leaving the other two in our group eager to return again. The meals were all carefully prepared and absolutely delicious.

    Quiet and Luxurious Moments

    We stayed at this accommodation to celebrate our wedding anniversary and had a wonderfully relaxing time. The room was more spacious than we expected, and the corridor leading to the open-air bath was so charming that both my spouse and I loved it! The onsen was incredibly soothing, and the meals were absolutely delicious! Since we dined in our room, we could enjoy our meals at our own pace. Relaxing in the open-air bath while listening to the chirping of bell crickets made us feel the essence of autumn and brought a sense of peace. The texture of the samue was so comfortable that I wore it throughout our stay. We were able to enjoy private time without encountering anyone else during our stay! Thanks to the wonderful hospitality and this lovely accommodation, we recharged ourselves with energy! We’ll definitely come back again!

    This is my second visit. The open-air bath in the Room was perfect with its water temperature and just the right amount of sulfur, making it very satisfying. The meals were abundant with local ingredients and perfectly seasoned. I will visit Sakurayu Sanshuyu again next time!

    This year, we visited again during the Akayu Festival, just like last year. My daughter always says she wants to go to a Yamagata Onsen because the food is delicious and it's a great place for everyone to relax together, making it our annual treat. The staff always remembers my daughter's name, which makes us feel at home every time we return. We enjoyed shabu-shabu with Yonezawa beef as usual—it’s always delicious. This time, we added sushi as well, and it was fantastic! Next time, I’d like to arrange for a massage earlier in advance. Looking forward to visiting again!

    It was a very quiet accommodation.

    I was a bit worried after reading other reviews mentioning an old building, but I found it to be clean and well-maintained despite its age. It was a quiet accommodation where I hardly noticed other guests during my stay, and I enjoyed the large bath all to myself. The staff's service was also excellent. However, I deducted one star because it would have been nice if the water in the refrigerator was complimentary.

    Accommodation to Enjoy Your Stay!

    The room design created a sense of excitement while also feeling relaxing—an amazing accommodation. Both the private bath and the large public bath were fantastic! Despite all rooms being fully booked, we didn’t encounter anyone in the large public bath—it felt like a private experience! Meals were served in-room and featured an abundance of Yonezawa beef—absolutely perfect. They even accommodated our children's preferences with no issues at all! Everything about this accommodation was exceptional. We will definitely return!

    Recommended Accommodation

    Surprisingly located in the middle of town, the facility is old but beautifully designed, allowing constant views of the courtyard and making you forget you're in the city. While the facility is old, it is impeccably cleaned and well-maintained. The staff maintain a perfect balance of attentiveness, creating a comfortable atmosphere. As for the meals, while not overly extravagant, everything is perfectly balanced and satisfying. This kind of Onsen is exactly my favorite. It has become one of my beloved Onsen facilities. I will definitely return!

    It was wonderful!

    I finally found an accommodation that truly satisfied me! The room included a Japanese-style room that served as both a bedroom and dining area, along with a living space equipped with a massage chair and TV. It was spacious enough, and having an open-air bath made it perfect. The bath facilities were luxurious! All the meals were delicious, but the croissants in the Western-style breakfast were especially exceptional. The private atmosphere was wonderful, with friendly yet unobtrusive service. I had such a fulfilling holiday after so long. Thank you very much!

    Overall, it was excellent. The hospitality, especially during dinner and breakfast, was outstanding. The room layout and comfort were exceptional, and having an onsen in the room felt truly luxurious. The meals were filled with Yamagata's local ingredients, giving a healthy impression.     Tohoku National Treasure Temple Tour

    Upon arriving at the accommodation by rental car, I was surprised to be greeted by a staff member seemingly out of nowhere. I looked around wondering if they had been watching from somewhere—perhaps a hidden camera? It was an impressive and thoughtful welcome. When asked, "Where did you visit today?" I answered, but later when another staff member came to our room, they said, "You visited Yamadera and Zao today. You must be tired." I was impressed by how even small details about guests are shared among the team. This accommodation has only seven rooms, and the room we stayed in as a couple was called "Hitori Shizuka." The room was very spacious and beautifully designed—it didn’t feel like it belonged in the middle of town. Everything in the room was clean and comfortable; there were fresh flowers arranged in the alcove that added a touch of extraordinary beauty to our everyday lives. The bath featured natural hot spring water flowing directly from its source with mineral deposits floating gently—a truly relaxing experience. The changing area had underfloor heating, equipment for quickly drying bath towels on the wall, as well as air conditioning to keep your feet warm while ensuring you feel refreshed after bathing—such thoughtful amenities were greatly appreciated. The amenities included separate items for men and women. Typically accommodations provide either a brush or comb—but this place offered both! My wife remarked with delight that this level of attention showed true care. Each dish served during meals demonstrated great thoughtfulness; meats were cooked perfectly, everything arrived at an ideal temperature for enjoyment, and these details reflected not only care but also glimpses into the chef’s dedication to their craft. Although I don’t drink alcohol at all myself, my wife enjoys it occasionally. She ordered a “Six-Sake Tasting Set” and particularly loved “Soumura,” commenting on how delicious it was. From every aspect—the accommodation itself, its staff members’ hospitality efforts down through cuisine preparation alongside exceptional bathing facilities—we felt completely satisfied emotionally while being thoroughly refreshed physically too!     Stayed for one night during the last week of May. ① The room, hallway, and bathroom all have a spacious and calming atmosphere. ② The Onsen water is very gentle and pleasant. ③ Both dinner and breakfast were prepared with care for the ingredients, without any overpowering flavors, making them easy to enjoy. ④ There were no unnecessary services, allowing for a relaxing and comfortable stay—much appreciated.
