    The Ultimate Cozy Hideaway

    Third visit I accidentally made a Reservation for the Japanese restaurant, but they kindly accommodated my last-minute change. When I mentioned during the Reservation that it was my daughter’s birthday, they surprised us at dinner with a beautiful bouquet and a special dessert plate. We were truly satisfied with their warm hospitality. Above all, we enjoyed what felt like a private beach far from any crowds, along with the infinity pool and sauna. Surrounded by crystal-clear sea and sky, we had an unforgettable time. The food was delicious as well! We’ll be back again.

    Thank you for a wonderful time.

    I was determined to take my elderly mother on a trip, so I searched with many criteria in mind—easy access from home, the distance from the station to the Accommodation, the view from the Room, Room size, and an in-room bath that would be easy for an older person to use. This Accommodation met every one of those requirements. The excitement began the moment you came to pick us up at the station in a Maybach, and when we saw the beautiful ocean from the lobby, I knew we had made the right choice. The welcome tea and traditional sweets at check-in were truly soothing. We were also lucky with wonderful weather, and we never tired of the ocean view through the large windows in our Room. Breakfast and dinner were thoughtfully prepared while making excellent use of local ingredients, allowing us to fully enjoy their natural flavors. My mother also seemed to truly enjoy traveling again after a long time and was happy that we made such lovely memories. Thank you as well for all of your staff’s attentive care. We would love to visit again with my mother.

    Your Perfect Midsummer Getaway Starts Here

    In the intense summer heat, it can be exhausting to go sightseeing everywhere or hunt for great restaurants, but here you can enjoy a beautiful beach (and pool) within the Hotel, along with an Onsen and open-air baths, plus truly outstanding meals. It’s about 45 seconds from the Room to the sea. Not having to worry about changing clothes or showering was wonderfully comfortable. It doesn’t seem to be exclusively for the Hotel, but it felt almost like a private beach—peaceful and far from any noise. Floating in the sunlit water was incredibly refreshing. After returning to the Room, I soaked in the open-air bath on the terrace. With nothing in view but sea and sky, I felt like I could stay there forever. My skin became so smooth that I didn’t even need after-bath body lotion. The full-course dinner was superb in both taste and presentation—I was completely satisfied. Luxurious ingredients such as splendid alfonsino, spiny lobster, eel, and steak were served, yet everything was thoughtfully prepared for summer—some dishes were chilled, with balsamic sauce or flavored salts—so nothing felt heavy at all. Every single dish was exceptional. The grilled eel (shirayaki) paired perfectly with cheese risotto and wasabi. Personally, I think this is the most delicious way to enjoy eel. The Ashitaka beef steak was also tender and truly delicious with onion-flavored salt. The white peach sorbet for dessert had an elegant sweetness and was absolutely delightful. This was my third stay at this Accommodation, and as always I received such a warm welcome. Everyone who assisted us this time as well was truly professional—yet also kind and cheerful in a way that made me feel genuinely relaxed from the heart. Thank you very much for a happy summer holiday.

    It was a disappointing stay, especially given our high expectations.

    I stayed here as a preview, also considering the membership program. I had planned to ask for more details if the stay went well, but unfortunately I did not feel that way. First, the Wi‑Fi in my Room was not available, and I was instructed to connect to the Wi‑Fi of another guest Room. It worked in the end, but given the price range, it was surprising. Also, there were an extremely large number of insects around the open-air bath in the guest Room. They kept flying around even while bathing, so I could not relax. I understand that some insects are unavoidable with an open-air bath in nature, and I do not want to lower my rating for that alone. When I consulted the front desk, they provided insect spray, but it did not improve the situation. There were no further suggestions such as alternatives or a Room change. As a result, I could not enjoy my stay with peace of mind. Dinner (French cuisine) also fell far short of expectations. While tastes vary, we found the seasoning overall too strong and quite greasy. The courses did not feel cohesive; there were bones left in the fish dish, and the meat was overcooked and noticeably tough. For an Accommodation in this price range, it was disappointing. On a positive note, the quality of the bathrobe was excellent and very comfortable. The views and location were appealing; however, considering everything—Facility quality, dining experience, and overall sense of security during our stay—it did not become the “truly relaxing stay without worries” we had hoped for. Given both the price range and membership concept expectations were not met; therefore I also did not feel inclined to inquire further about membership as I had intended if our stay had been better.

    We stayed here for our 20th wedding anniversary and were very satisfied.

    We stayed here as a couple to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Wanting to get away from the daily busyness of raising children and spend some long-overdue time alone together, we chose this Accommodation. We usually travel by car, but that means we can’t enjoy drinks along the way, so we looked for a great place to visit by train and made a Reservation here. When applying, I only wrote in the comments that we would be visiting for our 20th anniversary and didn’t make any requests. Even so, they surprised us with exceptional touches: a bouquet and a celebratory dessert plate marked “20th Anniversary” at the end of dinner, plus gifts at checkout. Thanks to their thoughtful hospitality, we had a truly wonderful time. Thank you very much. All of the staff were refined and attentive while maintaining just the right sense of distance, which allowed us to fully enjoy our Hotel stay. They also provided Shuttle Service to and from the station in a luxury car, and I was deeply impressed by how comfortable and effortless they made everything. The cuisine was outstanding, of course, and the in-Room bath and amenities were very comfortable. Although this is usually a members-only Accommodation, we are truly grateful that even general guests could stay through IKYU. As this is an upscale Accommodation, the price is naturally on the higher side—but we received service well worth it. In fact, compared with luxury hotels in central Tokyo, it felt almost inexpensive. It was an experience that recharged us and made us think: “We want to come back someday—so let’s work even harder until then!”

    We stayed for four n...

    We stayed for four nights. The Onsen, location, meals, and Facility are all wonderful, but above all, the service and thoughtful care from the staff were truly comforting and made us feel at ease, as if we were at home. We visit Shimoda about twice a year, and the Onsen at this Accommodation suits our skin better than anywhere else. The temperature was also perfect for us, allowing us to relax for a long time while enjoying the beautiful view. During our stay, I had an issue where my nail cracked from walking too much, but you provided plenty of gauze as well as nail clippers and a nail file, which helped me stay comfortable. Thank you very much. This is an Accommodation I can highly recommend both for special occasions and for everyday stays.

    A Room where you can relax while enjoying views of the sea in Shimoda.

    The ocean-facing balcony features an open-air bath, and we enjoyed the luxury of soaking in the Onsen while gazing out at the sea. The room was spotless and very comfortable. We chose the French dinner; it was delicious, using ingredients such as spiny lobster, foie gras, and bluefin tuna, but we were a little disappointed with the cooking methods, tableware, and number of dishes. The portions were more than enough, yet as a French course it still felt somewhat lacking. The freshly baked bread was excellent, including at breakfast. Breakfast was also tasty, but it was served one dish at a time. For a Hotel breakfast, we would have preferred items like bread and soup to be set out so guests could start with what they like. We also would have liked coffee from the beginning. We didn’t request any changes as we understood there needs to be balance with other guests’ service timing, but it felt a bit different from other Hotels’ style. With early check-in and late check-out, this is a great Hotel for those who want to relax and take their time.

    A quiet, luxurious place for couples to spend quality time together.

    We stayed for one night at the end of March. Unfortunately, the weather was cloudy and rainy, but from the Room we had a panoramic view of Shimoda’s sandy beach and coastline, and with clear skies we could have enjoyed a sky full of stars at night. The open-air bath on the balcony was truly relaxing, and after bathing we were able to unwind at our leisure, lying back on a balcony chair while being soothed by the sound of the waves. You can choose either Western or Japanese cuisine; we had Japanese for dinner and Western for breakfast. Since the in-house restaurant is a French venue, even the Japanese meal was served on Western tableware. The combination of authentic Japanese flavors with a Western-style table setting felt refreshingly unique, yet everything—from taste and presentation to the atmosphere—was perfectly harmonious, allowing us to enjoy every course to the very end. Breakfast also offered an excellent variety of fruit; even items that weren’t in season, such as watermelon and pears, were sweet and juicy, which left us very satisfied. Although we were told the property is about 30 years old, it has been carefully maintained throughout. The Room featured calm tones and tasteful interiors, amenities were by GUERLAIN, and all staff members were polite and discreet. It truly felt like an ideal place for adults to spend refined time in comfort and luxury.

    Highly recommended.

    My daughter and I had a wonderful stay—thank you so much. The beach and ocean view from the Hotel was stunning, and my daughter kept gazing at the scenery right up until just before check-out. The meals were just the right portion size, and we enjoyed every bite to the end. I was especially happy that plenty of vegetables and fruit were used, in addition to the fish. Your friendly service with warm smiles also helped make our stay very pleasant. A morning bath while looking out at the sea made us feel truly pampered, and it was a fantastic refresh.     We enjoyed a wonderful trip as a couple.

    At the beginning of 2026, we traveled to Shimoda for a New Year's visit to Shirahama Shrine and delicious meals, just like last year. When we started getting tired of traditional New Year dishes, we enjoyed French cuisine at Rakuyu. The view from the room, the meals, the Onsen, and the sauna made it a truly perfect trip.     Villa Rakuyou

    Thank you for your hospitality on the 30th. In one word, it’s an accommodation with exceptional hospitality. The building is old, but the room is spacious and impeccably clean, and the ocean view from the balcony is simply breathtaking. As for the meals, I was surprised to hear that a single chef handles everything. The timing of serving was neither too slow nor too fast—just perfect—and the dishes were outstanding. The quality of the house wine was also excellent (the wine list selection is impressive). Both my companion and I usually eat little or skip breakfast altogether, but here it was perfectly balanced, with fruits that were unbelievably delicious. The private hot spring in our room was so enjoyable that we used it multiple times from check-in to check-out; every soak left our skin feeling smooth and rejuvenated. The staff provided attentive yet unobtrusive service; when I mentioned at checkout that I had forgotten something, they all worked together to help me find it (I apologize for any trouble caused). This has become one of the accommodations we definitely want to visit again—though it would be even better if it were a bit closer to Tokyo!

    Early check-in with a luxurious shuttle service feels amazing!

    As per the concept of the accommodation, the guest rooms offer a view of the sandy beach and tranquil bay right in front, creating a perfect setting for an afternoon stroll. After checking in, we immediately headed to the beach to enjoy the fresh air while looking forward to dinner. One point that stood out was that having a paid TV service felt somewhat outdated. Although we were aware of this beforehand and had it set up during our reservation, it made us question whether this aligns with the overall concept considering its cost balance. On the other hand, there was an advantage where you could watch DVDs from a reclining position in your private bath—so it's debatable which is better. Additionally, since there is no separate washing area and you wash your body inside the private bath before rinsing off with a shower at the end, it would be helpful if anti-slip measures were provided as it can get slippery underfoot. The refrigerator contents were all chargeable and quite expensive; however, we appreciated being informed about this beforehand. That said, complimentary 500ml bottles of water were provided for each guest. The staff at this accommodation worked efficiently despite being few in number; they took on multiple roles but remained kind and attentive throughout our stay—we are truly grateful for their hospitality. Thank you so much for taking care of us during our visit! Lastly, prior to our trip, we received communication from the accommodation asking if this trip marked any special occasion so they could prepare accordingly. While slightly early for such celebrations (our anniversary falls in December), I mentioned that it was close to our wedding anniversary when making arrangements—and after dinner one evening my wife was surprised with an adorable bouquet! She was overjoyed by such thoughtful consideration (I had completely forgotten I mentioned anything). We deeply appreciate their kindness! As someone who loves onsen experiences—I thoroughly enjoyed two days filled with relaxing baths—it truly was wonderful! Thank you again!

    The Perfect Solo Trip

    A luxurious solo trip for the first time. I was nervous at first... but it turned out to be amazing. The weather during this season was perfect, with fewer tourists around. There were also fewer insects, and the climate was ideal, so I fully relaxed in the open-air bath with breathtaking views. The meals were plentiful yet delicious, and they paired perfectly with drinks! The staff provided excellent service, making it a very comfortable place to stay.     Perfect for adults seeking a quiet retreat. Ocean-view accommodation with direct beach access.

    Located about a 5-minute drive from Izukyu-Shimoda Station along Route 135, this accommodation offers shuttle service (advance reservation required). As there are no convenience stores or restaurants nearby, it is recommended to purchase necessary items around the station in advance. The Japanese-Western style room we stayed in was spacious at 66 square meters. While there is no TV (available for an additional fee), you can relax and enjoy the sound of waves and nature. The beds are slightly firm, providing comfortable support for those who sleep on their stomachs. Air conditioning works well, and WiFi speed is reliable. All rooms feature ocean views with balconies offering stunning sea vistas and lush natural scenery. You can also access the beach directly. The private open-air bath in the guest room can be used at any time, with water temperature feeling just right during our stay. In summer, you may need to adjust it with cold water. To avoid insects entering during certain seasons, lowering the blinds might be helpful for peace of mind. The washing area includes a dehumidifier with clothes-drying functionality—convenient for quickly drying wet towels—and amenities are fully stocked. Dinner features a French course menu; the bluefin tuna carpaccio was particularly memorable. Portions and serving pace were well-balanced, and there was a wide variety of drinks available. Breakfast consists of an American-style meal including freshly baked bread and 11 types of fruit. The shared pool and sauna are available from 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM (swimsuits required). You can easily access the beach directly from here; showers and towels are provided upon return as well. During our stay, it was quiet with few people around. Staff were attentive and professional throughout our visit. With only eight rooms available—and accommodations limited to guests above elementary school age—the atmosphere remains calm and serene. This property is ideal for couples or small groups seeking tranquility or those looking to enjoy beach activities during summer months.

    Second stay

    This was my second stay at this luxury hotel with warm hospitality, and I was greeted with a "Welcome back" at check-in. The open-air bath in the room, surrounded by the sea and sky, offered stunning views of the ocean glowing under the morning sun and illuminated by moonlight at night. The cuisine was exceptional, featuring fresh seafood from Shimoda as well as exquisite meat dishes. I enjoyed foie gras sautéed in Madeira sauce with a refined sweetness and Ashitaka beef steak seasoned with soy salt. Despite being rich dishes, they were perfectly balanced in flavor—a truly impressive full-course meal. The presentation was beautiful, and I was thoroughly satisfied with the dessert as well—an excellent dinner overall. Once again, the service was outstanding, allowing me to relax completely during my stay. After checking out, I had plans to take a sightseeing boat ride; since there was some distance between the station and the boarding area, they kindly stopped by the station first so I could store my luggage in a locker before taking me to the boat terminal. Thank you for another wonderful experience! I look forward to staying here again.

    Experience a Tropical Resort Atmosphere in Japan

    The moment I entered the Room, I was moved by the breathtaking view of the beautiful ocean right in front of me. Soaking in the open-air bath while gazing at the sea and listening to the sound of waves felt truly luxurious, instantly washing away all my daily fatigue. When I informed them in advance about my parents' mobility issues, they kindly prepared stairs for the open-air bath and a chair for the indoor bathtub. This thoughtful gesture deeply touched us. The meals were delightful, featuring French cuisine with an abundance of fresh seafood. Breakfast included freshly baked bread and fresh fruits, making it feel like we were at a tropical resort overseas as we enjoyed our meal overlooking the ocean. The staff greeted us with warm smiles and exceptional hospitality, allowing us to have a very comfortable stay. My parents, who find traveling abroad challenging now, were extremely satisfied and said they would love to visit again. If I may make one small suggestion: it would be more comfortable if the pajama pants provided in the Room had a standard elastic waistband instead of a Thai-style design. Additionally, having more complimentary coffee available for mornings would be appreciated. We had an amazing time here—thank you so much! We look forward to visiting again during summer next time!

    Repeat Accommodation

    My previous stay was so wonderful that I returned within a month. While the town of Shimoda is amazing, the comfort of knowing I could end my day at this accommodation and rest in that room was everything. A journey to remember for a lifetime requires an accommodation worthy of it, and Rakuyu provided that richness. Walking around the beach to the other side and enjoying summer until the very end was unforgettable. I am filled with gratitude. I will definitely visit again next summer, but I also look forward to experiencing its charm in other seasons. Thank you very much!

    A Small Luxury Hotel for Adults

    Adults only (no children allowed), so it was quiet and comfortable. The flow between the beach, sauna, and pool was very well designed, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The room had an open-air onsen with free-flowing hot spring water, allowing us to soak in perfectly warm water anytime. A hotel that combines such a beautiful beach and onsen is rare across the whole country. Additionally, with a 1:00 PM check-in plan, we were able to fully enjoy our stay even for just one night. Please continue to maintain the no-children policy and 1:00 PM check-in time. We will definitely return!

    The room, facility, cuisine, and service were all excellent, making for a truly wonderful stay. Being a hotel with fewer rooms, the front desk/lobby was completely quiet. Upon arrival, I was able to complete the check-in process while enjoying matcha and traditional sweets on the sofa. The initial reason for choosing this accommodation was its proximity to the beach—allowing me to change into swimwear in my room and head straight to the beach. (As an adult, even short distances can feel inconvenient when walking on public roads with wet hair or casual attire.) Additionally, the 1:00 PM check-in allowed me to relax at the beach in the afternoon. Later on, soaking in an open-air bath while gazing at the sky and sea was incredibly refreshing. The room was spacious and clean with convenient features like a user-friendly closet and shower—ensuring a comfortable stay. The cuisine was also exceptional; dinner included seasonal delights such as grilled eel prepared perfectly along with delicious steak as part of a satisfying full-course meal. Breakfast featured freshly baked bread and omelets made from white eggs that were equally delightful. The restaurant's location right by the sea added another layer of enjoyment; during dinner we watched as twilight turned into nightfall while breakfast offered views of sparkling blue waters under sunlight—all enhancing our dining experience. Above all else, what stood out most was their outstanding service. From shuttle service to front desk staff and restaurant team members—everyone provided professional yet heartfelt hospitality that left us deeply grateful. This hotel offered such comfort that it made leaving difficult—I look forward to staying here again!

    Heartwarming hospitality.

    I visited with my high school son who has severe disabilities and requires extensive medical care. Before contacting Rakuyou, I had inquired at several luxury Ryokans listed on this site, but was repeatedly turned down even for Western-style rooms. However, Rakuyou listened attentively to our situation from the inquiry stage. They assured us that the facility is wheelchair accessible and that wheelchairs are allowed inside the room. I also shared my wish to let my son, who rarely gets to go out, experience the sea, sky, beautiful scenery, and sound of waves up close from within the room. Their kind response moved me so much that I decided to make a Reservation immediately. The ocean was right in front of us, and our second-floor Room offered an even closer experience of the sea and sound of waves. The barrel-shaped open-air bath in our Room was very spacious as well; we were able to carefully assist my bedridden son into it. Although we forgot an extension cord for his medical equipment, they kindly lent one to us without hesitation. During meals, they arranged seating so that my son could easily enjoy views of the outside scenery—such thoughtful hospitality throughout our stay. Even beyond this exceptional service, the Room itself was luxurious and spacious with elegant amenities provided. At night, lighting directed toward the ocean illuminated what would otherwise be a dark seascape; we could clearly see waves under moonlight while enjoying either a soak in our private open-air bath or drinks on the terrace—a truly indulgent and graceful time. It would be great if IKYU.com made it easier for users searching under "barrier-free" options to find places like this Ryokan. We created such wonderful memories here—thank you very much!

    High-grade Hotel!

    I stayed with my sister and her three daughters. The private open-air bath in the room with an ocean view was absolutely amazing. Every meal was delicious, with both dinner and breakfast being plentiful and featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients. The freshly baked bread was exceptional as well. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. I look forward to visiting again!

    The view from the Room was amazing, and we had a wonderful time by the sea. However, one thing to note is that the sauna requires swimwear, but there is no swimwear rental available. It would have been helpful to receive an announcement in advance about needing swimwear (we ended up purchasing it on-site).

    I would love to visit again!

    The hotel, hospitality, meals, ocean view, and Onsen were all satisfying. I was able to relax. Thank you very much. In similar price range facilities with an Onsen in the room, loungewear is usually provided and can be worn to meals; however, at this Facility, it was necessary to change into regular clothes. There were no small towels for washing (though medium-sized and large bath towels were available). If these two points are improved, I would rate it 100%. The local sake was also delicious. I will visit again!

    I stayed here for my wife's birthday. The shuttle service to Shimoda Station (with a Mercedes-Benz S-Class) was an extraordinary experience. We stayed on a Sunday, and by chance, we had the accommodation all to ourselves. Dinner was focused on local ingredients and was absolutely delicious. Breakfast was hearty, and we enjoyed it at a leisurely pace. The staff responded kindly to all our inquiries, making our stay peaceful and filled with happiness. We would love to visit again in different seasons in the future. Also, thank you for preparing a birthday gift for my wife!

    It is a challenging accommodation to evaluate.

    The view is absolutely stunning, and the room offers a great sense of openness. The towels are maintained at an excellent level, leaving a positive impression. Overall, the view is undeniably perfect. However, I found the meals a bit disappointing. While some guests have commented that they enjoyed the food, it might not have suited my taste. There were also moments during customer service that made me question their approach. Considering the meals and service quality, I feel that the price is too high and not justified. However, with such an amazing view, perhaps it's worth it just for that. For the view alone, this accommodation is definitely worth revisiting.

    The location is perfect and the view from the rooms is excellent. Facility maintenance is well taken care of. The customer service is also wonderful. Staff uniform fitting → If worn in just the right size, I think their demeanor would be even more refined. Aging in small areas → The cleaning level is high and basically everything shines, but I think the balcony glass could be perfect with just a little more effort. Overall, the level is high so you can be satisfied. Highly recommended.
