    It was a wonderful Accommodation!

    My spouse and I stayed here as a couple, and our detached Room came with an open-air bath and a footbath. The Room was very clean and made for a truly relaxing stay. We had our meals in a private dining room in a separate building, and even though there were many guests, we hardly ran into anyone. Each dish was beautifully presented, and the taste and portions were just right—we really enjoyed it! Above all, the morning mist in Yufuin was absolutely breathtaking. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again if we have the chance.

    Stay in Yufuin

    This was my third visit to Yufuin, but I had avoided staying overnight because there are so many luxury Ryokan. This time, I stayed for the first time. Hana-yu is located on relatively high ground, with detached rooms built into the slope. It was quiet, and the Facility still felt new. The Onsen water quality was excellent—I think it is among the best in the whole country. The food was also delicious. The dining area was well designed, and I could enjoy my meal with peace of mind. However, the breakfast felt quite different from what is generally expected, so I cannot say I was satisfied with it.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    I was able to relax very well. Since the grounds are spacious, I thought it would be nice to take a walk. On my way out, I noticed a beautiful garden when viewing it from the main building. How about adding a bench? I would like to visit again in a different season.

    Sisters’ Trip

    My first time in Yufuin. Guided by the staff to my Room, I was moved by the view. The Onsen was wonderful, and the meals delighted both my eyes and taste buds. The staff’s thoughtful hospitality was exceptional, and I felt truly healed at this Accommodation.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    The Room also has a bath and a footbath. We were able to relax and unwind at our leisure. The view was amazing! The meals were delicious.

    The hot water is good.

    A few concerns: The wood around the Room’s open-air bath has been damaged by termites and is deteriorating. There was no bathrobe in the Room, so it was inconvenient while waiting to cool down after sweating. If you put on a yukata right away, you end up drenched in sweat... During dinner, the timing of serving and clearing dishes felt rushed and hectic. Good points: The food is simply delicious. The hot spring water is great. Everyone was very kind. Overall, it felt like something was just missing.

    Multiple Night Stay in April

    This was my first stay. Because the Room was in a separate building, it was very quiet and I was able to relax throughout my stay. The spectacular view from the Room, the silky Onsen, the meals that were satisfying in both quality and quantity, and the attentive staff made it a truly fulfilling time. The weather was great and the climate was perfect for traveling, so sightseeing in Yufuin was also very comfortable.

    It was a wonderful Accommodation.

    The Facility itself is flawless. It is truly a wonderful Accommodation—so much so that it’s hard to put into words. Precisely because of that, the shortcomings in service and food stood out, and I felt there is considerable room for improvement. Given the price range of this Accommodation, I believe guests’ expectations are high, so I hope you won’t rely solely on the quality of the Facility and will prioritize hospitality above all. “Such a waste” is my honest impression after this stay.

    Create lasting family travel memories with your grown children.

    The Rooms are laid out like detached villas, and the Room we used had an indoor bath, an open-air bath, and even a garden. We were able to relax without worrying about other guests and truly enjoy private family time. Because dinner was late, we stepped outside from the lobby to enjoy drinks (only beer is charged), and it was wonderful to be able to see Yufuin’s night view. The meals were refined and delicious, and since drinks were included in our Plan, we had a very enjoyable dining experience. In the morning, we enjoyed the morning mist and sunrise that seemed to gently cover Yufuin—just like the Accommodation’s name suggests. Apparently it depends on the season and temperature, so we were happy to be able to see it. Overall, it is a very good Ryokan, but we were slightly disappointed by things like peeling paint in the Room and the quality of the toothbrush amenity. We also would have appreciated a bit more variety with breakfast side dishes.

    It was a wonderful trip!

    I stayed at Hanayuu because I wanted a relaxing trip, and I was satisfied with everything. I was able to unwind at a leisurely pace and had a truly fulfilling time.     My husband and I stayed here together. We could see Mt. Yufu from the open-air bath in our Room. The Room was spacious, and the underfloor heating was very comfortable. The TV was large, and there was another TV that we could watch even while lying in bed. We also enjoyed the meals, which were delicious. For breakfast, we had miso soup with spiny lobster handmade by the proprietress, which was also excellent. The staff who served us were very pleasant as well. When we left, they waved to see us off until our car was out of sight. Thank you very much.

    This is an Accommodation I definitely want to visit again.

    We stayed here for his birthday. I had requested a cake, and they added a cute message plate. They even took a photo, put it in a frame, and gave it to us as a gift at checkout—I was truly happy. Every dish was genuinely delicious, and there were so many courses that we were completely satisfied. We had a wonderful time, though some older guests might feel the portions are a bit large. All the staff were excellent, and they saw us off until our car was out of sight, which made us feel very warmly welcomed. The Onsen water was also amazing—my skin felt silky smooth afterward. One small thing I noticed was that the timing of serving the dinner dishes felt slightly drawn out. I wondered if they were busy or short-staffed. Also, the coffee machine at the front desk showed a filter replacement message, so it might be worth checking. That said, overall it was a wonderful Accommodation that left us with lasting memories.     Everything except transportation gets a double circle.

    I stayed on the second floor of the main building. The Room facilities and cleanliness were excellent. If I had to nitpick, getting to the large public bath requires walking outside, so it’s terrible in bad weather and tough in winter. If you stay here, a detached room with an open-air bath might be better. However, since I prefer the large public bath, this is where opinions may differ. The food was satisfying in both quality and quantity.

    Meals are…

    The Room was spacious and clean, but above all, the meals were really not tasty. The dessert was so bad I couldn’t finish it. So I recommend staying without meals.

    Excellent location

    Both the Room and the Facility were very clean and comfortable. The meals were beautifully presented, and the portions were just right. What was disappointing was that from arrival until getting to the Room, we had to carry everything ourselves except our suitcases. On top of that, we were also made to put our shoes into the shoe cabinet ourselves. It was my first time experiencing this, and I was very surprised. Given how wonderful the location is, it felt like a missed opportunity.

    For a cozy stay-in getaway.

    For a cozy stay-in getaway, we chose this Accommodation with an open-air bath in the Room—and it was absolutely the right choice. Our Room was in a detached building, so we could truly relax. The main building, which has the dining venue and the large public bath, is also in separate buildings. The large public bath facing Mt. Yufu offers a wonderful view. We were lucky enough to catch a controlled burn as well. The Onsen water is silky-smooth and feels great—Yufuin at its best. We enjoyed the Onsen four times in total: evening, night, and twice in the morning. The Room was spacious and bright, with a relaxing, home-like atmosphere. I appreciated that it wasn’t made dark with excessive indirect lighting. More than luxury, it felt clean and comfortable. There was also a massage chair—such a thoughtful touch. With floor heating throughout the entire Room (including the wash area), it didn’t feel too cold even in winter. The open-air bath in the Room was amazing—luxuriously free-flowing from the source—and you can adjust the temperature by adding water. At dinner, international staff did their best to explain everything in an unfamiliar language for them. I will never forget one male staff member who kept waving until our car disappeared from view as we left.

    Regret

    I stayed here based on a friend’s recommendation. Since it’s in Yufuin and the stay cost about JPY 120,000 for two people, I had high expectations. However, the Hotel Room felt like a love hotel, the meals were on par with an izakaya in Tokyo, and the bath was dark and gloomy. To make matters worse, due to “work-style reform,” cars are not allowed to enter the Hotel grounds from 11:30 to 13:00, and they said they would not store luggage. IKYU has really gone downhill—I’m shocked they would recommend a Ryokan like this to their valued customers.

    Family Trip

    As you open the entrance, you are immediately overwhelmed by the stunning view of Mount Yufu. The glass is impeccably clean, and the front desk area offers an incredible view. The entire accommodation feels new and well-maintained, leaving a great impression. We stayed in a detached room, which was spacious, well-designed, and very comfortable. Both dinner and breakfast were highly praised by our family. The large public bath also offers a perfect location with an excellent view of Mount Yufu. We definitely want to return. Since this is such a wonderful ryokan, we hope maintenance efforts continue despite the challenges. Regarding the sliding door for the private open-air bath attached to our room—it seems designed to offer views of Mount Yufu but was quite stiff; it might be difficult for women to open easily. Perhaps adding pulleys could improve this issue. The water stains on the glass and mirrors between the indoor bath and private open-air bath seem challenging but would benefit from regular polishing. Additionally, placing protective pads under furniture like tables and chairs on wooden floors could prevent scratches caused by small stones getting caught underneath—such damage is unfortunate for beautiful flooring! For minor scratches, applying something similar to moisturizer can make them less noticeable. This is truly an exceptional accommodation—please keep up your great work! We look forward to visiting again!

    Stayed with my paren...

    Stayed with my parents as part of our annual year-end family trip. Had multiple phone conversations with the receptionist regarding meals during the reservation process. While her language was polite, her tone was low and lacked enthusiasm, which made me question, "Is this accommodation okay?" Despite speaking to the same person several times that day and introducing myself each time, she repeatedly asked for my stay date and inquiry in a low tone. It would have been better if she had responded more flexibly by acknowledging our previous conversation. Upon arrival, however, the staff's service was satisfactory. We reserved two rooms: a C-type and an L-type. The L-type room we checked into first was spacious but showed signs of aging. On the other hand, while slightly smaller, the C-type room had a stylish design with amenities like a massage chair and ReFa hairdryer—and it was priced lower than the L-type. The meals were good but not exceptionally satisfying as some past reviews suggested. Interestingly, the accommodation we stayed at in Yufuin on the following day offered better service, meals, facilities—and at about half this price. Suggestions for improvement: - Reception is the face of any accommodation. Especially over phone calls where visual cues are absent, training for brighter customer interaction is essential. - For L-type rooms: Consider adding amenities like massage chairs or modern appliances similar to C-types to address signs of aging. - Pricing seems too high; unless luxury is your main selling point, aligning prices closer to other accommodations might be more reasonable. As someone who has stayed at 5-star hotels and ryokans across Japan extensively, I hope these honest opinions are helpful for your reference.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    The Room and meals were excellent. The attentiveness of the male staff member, possibly the manager, was particularly outstanding. The bath in the Room was nice, but the large public bath, available for use anytime until morning, allowed for a relaxing stay.

    The meals are excellent.

    Although we checked in late, we were warmly welcomed at the entrance and guided to the parking lot with care, making for a pleasant start to our stay. The staff was friendly and approachable, providing detailed explanations. The room was very spacious, bright, and had a lovely modern Japanese style. The terrace footbath was excellent, and the private open-air bath in the room was comfortable. While it would have been nice to have a more open view, I understand that privacy considerations make this challenging. In terms of facilities: - The Wi-Fi initially didn’t connect but was fixed promptly by staff who came to assist us. - The right-side roll curtain was heavy and wouldn’t lower properly; when I applied force, the chain came off. Although staff tried to fix it without success, I eventually managed on my own—but it remains heavy and might need repair. As for the outdoor bath area: its design requires stepping outside from the entrance first—an unusual layout that made me wonder if unauthorized visitors could enter easily. Additionally, the open-air bath water temperature felt quite lukewarm and slightly chilly. Dinner featured many dishes with excellent flavors overall. While primarily Japanese kaiseki cuisine, there were Western-inspired elements that stood out impressively—I even wondered if their chef had a background in Western cuisine! The foie gras flan especially surpassed any foie gras dish I've ever tasted before—it was exquisite! The lava-grilled beef was delicious; however, since the chicken seemed pre-cooked through beforehand, grilling it felt less satisfying. Breakfast also offered an extensive variety of tasty options overall—though one fish dish called "Ryukyu" had a slight odor. This trip included one-night stays across Kagoshima, Miyazaki, Kumamoto & Oita—and choosing accommodation in Yufuin took us some time—but staying here turned out to be an excellent decision!

    We stayed at the accommodation on the last day of our Kyushu trip. The service provided by the hotel staff was excellent, and the meals were delicious, utilizing fresh ingredients without being overly elaborate. The view of Mount Yufu from the room and the onsen open-air bath offered such a luxurious experience. The dreamy time passed quickly, and we reluctantly returned home from Oita Airport. If we have another opportunity to visit, this is definitely an accommodation we would love to stay at again.
