Have a wonderful day!
We stayed here for our silver wedding anniversary trip. Every dish was delicious!! The in-room open-air bath was wonderful, and we were able to relax in the Japanese-Western style Room—very satisfied! They even prepared a celebratory plate at dinner, and it truly made for a happy one-night stay! Thank you very much. We were also happy that the drinks in the refrigerator were complimentary! We’d love to stay here again when we visit Hakone!

Refresh
Although it was my first visit, everything went smoothly and I had a very comfortable stay. It’s a small, intimate Accommodation, but the Room has a semi-open-air bath with free-flowing hot spring water straight from the source, which was perfect for me as I love natural hot springs. What I liked I was pleasantly surprised to find SHOLAYERED amenities. All of the staff were very friendly. I traveled by bus, and the Shuttle Service was seamless. The meals were delicious, and the after-meal coffee was great as well. The inari sushi was also excellent. Suggestions for improvement Since we soaked in the bath for quite a long time, one 2-liter bottle of water for two people wasn’t enough. By the next morning Room service had ended (I could have called the front desk), but ideally we would appreciate having two bottles of water. Dinner was very tasty, but I would be happier if there were a bit more variety and quantity of sashimi. This has become one of my favorite Accommodations. Next time, I’d love to stay in a Room with a view of Mt. Fuji as well.

Excellent!
Last year, my spouse and I both turned 60, and although it was a bit late, this was our commemorative trip. At dinner, we were surprised with a celebratory cake for our 60th birthday. We had mentioned in advance that it was a special anniversary trip, but we were still amazed. We were able to spend three wonderful days and two nights in complete comfort. It’s all thanks to the entire staff. The photos show Mt. Fuji taken from the semi-open-air bath and the celebratory cake.

A Place of Comfort
Every month, coming back here makes us feel at ease. For us, it’s not just a place to stay—it’s a special place where we can truly relax when we return. Thank you so much to everyone who always welcomes us with the same warm smiles. The time we get to spend here is a source of comfort for our hearts. Chef, of course everything is delicious, but we can really feel the care you put into each and every dish, and it makes us happy every time. We’re grateful to keep finding dishes that make us think, “I want to eat this again,” no matter how many times we’ve had them. A huge thank-you to you and the entire kitchen team!! And to you—there may be all kinds of worries, but take it easy, stay calm, don’t get worked up, and keep a cool head. We’re cheering for you! If you ever need to vent, I’ll listen anytime (haha). See you next week—we’ll come by to see you again.

Full of thoughtful touches you won’t find at other accommodations.
This Accommodation was truly satisfying in both its facilities and service. There were so many thoughtful touches that made me think, “That makes sense.” 1) The semi-open-air bath comes with a wooden (possibly hinoki cypress?) lid for the tub, apparently to prevent insects from falling in. 2) The disposable chopsticks at dinner are engraved with the Accommodation’s name. 3) The soy sauce from a partnered brewery is excellent. The soy sauce dispenser is a dropper (!) because of its high viscosity. 4) The dinner menu lists only the ingredients, which builds curiosity and anticipation about what each dish will be. When serving each course, the staff explain every dish in detail and with great care. With only a small number of Rooms, it’s quiet and relaxing—highly recommended for anyone who wants to unwind and enjoy delicious meals. Thank you to all the staff. I would love to visit again.

Accommodation with a view of Mt. Fuji from the Room’s open-air bath
This was my second visit, the first in four years. A small Accommodation with just nine Rooms. It was renovated two years ago, and everything felt newer overall, including the addition of an elevator. The services are unchanged, such as being able to request sparkling wine as a welcome drink. But where did that energetic young staff member go...? All drinks in the Room refrigerator are free-flow. There is no large public bath, but each Room has continuously flowing Owakudani Onsen water! It comes with a semi-open-air bath. This time we stayed in the “Shiro” Room—a bright layout on the third floor with views of the outer rim mountains and Mt. Fuji from both the Room and the bath. Both dinner and breakfast are served in semi-private dining spaces with a view of Mt. Fuji. Perhaps the head chef has changed; while the apple-themed dishes were still there, the seasoning had changed, and it didn’t feel particularly creative—but everything was well put together and we enjoyed it. You can no longer choose your grilled fish at breakfast, which was a bit disappointing.

A relaxing Obon holiday getaway for couples
This was my first stay here. I expected it to be crowded during the Obon holiday period, but since there are only a few guest Rooms, I was able to relax and enjoy a calm stay. I stayed in a Room with a view of Mt. Fuji. There were many clouds, but I could still see it. The staff were efficient and pleasant. The bed was excellent—apparently an original design. It was very comfortable, and it left a strong impression on me. On the other hand, perhaps because there is a raised area inside the Room, the layout felt more like a Hotel where you enter with your shoes on rather than taking them off at the entrance, which was disappointing. Even though it is a Ryokan, walking on carpet with shoes on felt quite strange to me personally. In a Hotel it wouldn’t bother me, but at a Ryokan I would prefer to take off my shoes at the entrance and spend time barefoot or in tabi socks. I was very happy with the complimentary drinks in the refrigerator. Every dish was delicious, and I especially liked the corn takikomi rice (seasoned rice). The pumpkin mousse and matcha ice cream for dessert were very satisfying as well. I would like to visit again if I have another opportunity.

Relaxing Onsen Accommodation
My wife was happy to have an in-room Onsen, so we made a Reservation for a summer getaway. The Accommodation was casual and clean, and we were able to relax comfortably. The surroundings were quiet, with birdsong echoing through the air. The Onsen water is free-flowing and excellent. From the Shiragane Room, we could see Mt. Fuji from the corner of the balcony. The meals were beautifully prepared—kaiseki dinner and a Japanese breakfast—with thoughtful touches throughout, and everything was delicious. All of the staff were polite and kind, which made my wife very happy as well. Thanks to you, it was a wonderful trip. Thank you very much.

Like a Japanese-style auberge
We stopped by on our way back from visiting a grave. Tucked away deep in Sengokuhara, it felt like a place you couldn’t reach without navigation, and just as we were wondering whether we were really on the right slope, a staff member came out to greet us, which was a relief. It’s a very small and quiet Accommodation, and the courteous service from all the staff left a great impression. The Room may be over 10 years old; the washbasin bowl was chipped and reinforced with white tape, so I thought it might look better if it were lightly sanded and repaired with white paint or something similar. Overall, everything was kept very clean. The bath is a semi-open-air bath, and it felt wonderful both morning and evening. Since it’s a small Facility, you can hear some noise from upstairs, and when you step out onto the terrace you may hear voices from other areas as well—but it actually made me feel like I was visiting my parents’ home, so it didn’t bother me (laughs). For the first-floor Room, I wished there had been slightly smaller wooden sandals/clogs for women. Bathing in the morning while listening to birdsong was amazing. The meals were delicious; having only ingredient names written on the menu also sparked my imagination, and I enjoyed each dish’s unexpectedly unique seasoning in small portions—it was inspiring as well. It felt as if time flowed differently inside this Accommodation, and I’m glad we were able to relax so slowly.

Wonderful
We visited to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Over the past few years, we have stayed at quite a few Hotels and Ryokans in Hakone with private open-air Onsen baths in the guest rooms, and this Ryokan was outstanding even among them. Every staff member was courteous and wonderful. In particular, we were impressed by the attentive service from the Nepali staff member and their excellent Japanese! The new staff member also went above and beyond—from providing careful explanations of each dish to preparing an anniversary card with a photo for our wedding celebration. We truly appreciated the heartfelt hospitality, and both of us were delighted. Thank you very much. The cuisine was exceptional, with superb dashi, and we thoroughly enjoyed high-quality Japanese dishes. Starting with “Hassun,” followed by “Soup,” “Sashimi,” “Simmered Dish,” “Wagyu (main dish),” “Corn and Octopus Rice,” and “Dessert”—it was a perfect lineup. In particular, the signature dish called “A Heritage Specialty”—a hollowed-out apple filled with white sauce and scallops—was rich, delicious, and unlike anything we have had elsewhere. Truly impressive. The open-air bath in our room was continuously flowing from Owakudani’s hot spring source, always pleasantly hot. The tub was made of hinoki cypress, and it was spacious as well, so we could enjoy it to the fullest. I used it about six times right up until just before checkout! The bed had just the right firmness, the headboard wall above felt soft, and there were four cushions/pillows as well—so it was very comfortable to sleep on, and I slept soundly. If you are driving here using an older car navigation system, please be careful: entering the address may take you to a different location. The Hotel staff mentioned this as well. Using Google Maps is more reliable for arriving without issues! We would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

A Relaxing Retreat
I visit every month, and no matter how many times I come, it’s always wonderful!! Such a soothing place. Thank you, everyone, as always. This month marks the end for the next-generation angel. We’re truly happy from the bottom of our hearts that we got to meet you. I hope you can keep smiling every day wherever you go. The memories with everyone at “Zen” will last forever. Good luck! Chef, I’m sorry! I forgot to tell you about one ingredient I can’t eat. But thanks to that, an unexpected secret happy moment happened... I was so moved by the meal with that amazing view—right, angel? lol Chef, thank you for your wonderful creations as always. See you again next month. Hashira, I know there’s a lot going on, but please take good care of both your body and mind. I always say this—there’s no one who can replace you. Rest well whenever you can. The next-generation angel may be leaving, but a new baby angel has joined us—let’s have them do their best. See you again next month.

Thank you for your hospitality. We were able to relax, and both breakfast and dinner were very delicious. We enjoyed the Onsen, soaking many times. However, the bath was quite deep, and we felt it would be easier to use if it were a bit larger rather than deeper. Overall, we were very satisfied with this Accommodation. If we have the opportunity, we would love to stay again.

Highly satisfied
The Japanese cuisine was excellent. It was inconvenient that we had to step out of the private room to call staff. The in-room free-flowing hot spring bath was great, but it would have been even better if there were also a large public bath. Overall, this is an Accommodation I would like to stay at again.

A Quick Two-Person Getaway to Hakone
While looking for an Accommodation in nearby Hakone, I found “Yuyado Zen” featured on IKYU and made a Reservation about three months ago. I was excited to check in and see what it would be like. There was a great variety of welcome drinks, the check-in process was smooth, and we were shown to our Room. The Room size was just right, and the coordination between the staff on the 1st and 3rd floors was excellent and made us feel very comfortable. The Onsen water quality was great, but adjusting the temperature was a bit tricky. The meals were delicious, with perfectly balanced dashi. Younger guests might find them a little light. My favorite part was that there were no solid fuel burners used. The service staff spoke Japanese fluently and had impeccable manners—truly impressive. It was a shame that the beer selection included only craft options and Suntory (I wanted Asahi). We were able to enjoy our meal at a relaxed pace, soak in the Onsen leisurely, and unwind away from the everyday city bustle—it was a truly refreshing one-night stay. Thank you to everyone who assisted us from pickup through dining to checkout.

I was able to spend a quiet stay on a weekday.
Overall, the Facility was new, high-quality, and very comfortable. The in-Room Onsen bath was spacious enough to stretch out and relax. The hospitality was attentive from the valet service and welcome drink on arrival through to the send-off. Meals were served in a private room, with each dish carefully explained, which made everything taste even better. The bouquet selection for the anniversary course was wonderful, and my partner was delighted. Thank you very much.

Everything is excellent.
We stayed here to celebrate our anniversary, and everything was exceptional. Being able to soak in the wonderful Onsen at any time, surrounded by the soothing scent of hinoki cypress, was pure bliss. The meals were outstanding—especially breakfast. We were truly impressed by the carefully prepared dishes made with delicious dashi, and ended up eating far more rice than usual. Every staff member was kind and attentive with just the right sense of distance, allowing us to relax throughout our stay. We would love to return again. Thank you very much for a wonderful experience.

The meals weren’t great.
We stayed here as a couple. We visit Hakone several times a year, but this was our first time staying here. I love Hotels with an open-air bath in the Room, so I didn’t mind that there wasn’t a large public bath. The bath in the Room was also great—it really felt like Onsen water. However, while both dinner and breakfast were plentiful, the taste was disappointing. It’s Japanese cuisine, but the way it was prepared felt off... I’m not a professional, so I hesitate to sound critical, but with food like this, I would recommend other Ryokan in the same class. The “traditional specialty,” the preparation of conger eel and meat, and even the marinated egg at breakfast all felt like they went in a different direction from what makes Japanese cuisine appealing. If the meals improve, I would like to visit again.

We had a relaxing stay.
I stayed here solo. It’s in a quiet location, and the property was peaceful throughout; everything was spotless and well maintained. When I asked the staff for concierge-style recommendations, they were kind and thorough, which I really appreciated. The meals were excellent—although I don’t usually eat many vegetable dishes, I enjoyed every one. It was very refreshing.

Third visit in June!
I visited just last week, but I couldn’t resist (lol). I’ve been to “Zen” about 40 times. From what I’ve seen, the entire team—from the kitchen onward—is now in perfect balance under S. I hope you don’t lose that balance; “Zen” as it is now feels complete. Because this is an Accommodation that S has worked so hard to build and cherish, it has such a warm atmosphere—and I can tell it’s loved not only by us, but by other guests as well. The staff’s growth has been remarkable. I’ve known S since the days of the sister property, when S was the general manager—S’s leadership built a truly wonderful Accommodation back then too. Even when we met at the sister property long ago, you protected the place with that warm, calm presence. Being both “Zen”’s general manager and also the owner’s right-hand person overseeing the whole group—that’s a lot. Please take care of yourself; there’s no replacing you. (It’s finally time! Our favorite becomes “Zen”’s general manager, and S focuses on the whole group—how perfect is that? Ah… but if our favorite becomes GM, they won’t be able to spend all their time with us… maybe they don’t need to become GM just yet lol) To the kitchen team who gave us top-tier hospitality even with our sudden visit—thank you always for your amazing creations!! And then those creations become even more exquisite thanks to angelic service at delivery to the table. What a luxurious time. The best food, the best baths—and all of you are what make this our very best place. Thank you so much. See you in July.

From pick-up at the bus stop to departure, the staff were extremely kind and helpful. Unfortunately, it rained heavily for two days, but we were able to relax and enjoy our stay. Breakfast was delicious. One of our main purposes for this trip was to visit the Pola Museum of Art. When we couldn’t arrange a taxi and were in trouble, they kindly offered to drive us there themselves. Thank you very much.

Second visit this month.
My second visit this month. Thank you for always providing such a wonderful space! It’s the rainy season and the weather can be gloomy, but every time I come to “Zen,” my heart feels bright and clear again. They welcome you with the best hospitality, incredible cuisine, and perfect hot-spring water. At dinner, you can feel the care from everyone in the kitchen in each dish—every visit is one moving moment after another. And enjoying dinner while being soothed by those angelic smiles—I was able to spend truly relaxing time from the bottom of my heart. Thank you. But there was some sad news, and maybe because of that everyone seemed a little less cheerful. Me too... The next morning, seeing Pillar S and exchanging a few words somehow makes me feel like “it’ll be okay.” Okay how? I don’t even know lol—but it’s reassuring. Isn’t that amazing? From angels to baby angels—if you’re with this team, you’ll be fine! (This place is seriously the best. Maybe baby angel doesn’t even need to go to New Zealand for five years lol.) Oh—and for anyone unsure which Room to choose: The concept of “Sumi,” where we stayed, is a calm space where you can spend time peacefully. The wallpaper is black; overall it’s dim with minimal light and only gentle sunlight coming in. I love this soothing darkness, so I choose it every time. Having experienced all the Rooms, I’d say “Moegi” is best if you want a brighter Room where you can really enjoy natural sunlight. It also comes with a private garden and a private dining area—perfect for an indulgent stay. If you’re looking for views of Mt. Fuji or distant scenery, “Tsurubami” might be a great choice. Of course, each Room has its own unique features, so please look into them as well. When it’s time to leave, seeing everyone wave from up on the slope—not saying goodbye but “see you”—makes me think every time: “I’ll be back soon.” This is an irreplaceable place for us—and all of you whom we love—thank you so much. See you next month!

Meals and a Room with free-flowing Onsen bath
The in-room, free-flowing Onsen that you can use anytime is wonderful—fresh air comes in, the greenery is beautiful, and it feels incredibly relaxing. The meals were delicious, just as the Review said. Everything was explained carefully, the portions were just right, and I loved the unique combinations of ingredients. At breakfast, the side dishes were so good that the two of us finished an entire pot of rice. As for the Accommodation’s atmosphere, it feels like a modern highland cottage. If I’m being picky, I prefer something with more history, character, or traditional charm, so I deducted one star—but considering the price, I think it’s fair value and overall I’m satisfied. They also provided a full set of basic skincare items such as cleansing oil and toner, and everything was well stocked—from towels to loungewear/indoor wear and even bathrobes. The beer and water in the fridge were also included in the Room rate. (Though if you don’t need them, you might wish there were an option to pay a bit less.)

It was a highly satisfying accommodation.
This was my first visit. It’s about 30–40 minutes from the Gotemba IC. We arrived around 3:30 PM. Check-in is handled in order of arrival. We were offered sparkling wine as a welcome drink, and it was delicious. After choosing dinner and breakfast times, we quickly headed to our Room. Our luggage had already been placed there. The front desk staff were all women, and I really liked the polite, gentle atmosphere that created. The Room should have had a view of Mt. Fuji... but unfortunately it was raining—what a shame. After relaxing with a bath, we went to dinner. This Accommodation has only 10 Rooms, and there are also 10 dining spaces ranging from private rooms to semi-private seating; this time we were shown to a private room. Every dish was stylishly presented, and the menu listed only the ingredients, so you could imagine what each dish would be like—that really appealed to us. It was fun guessing and chatting about it all. Maybe because of that, we ended up enjoying quite a lot of sake and stayed for about 2.5 hours. We’re truly grateful to the staff. I couldn’t manage the late-night inari sushi because I drank too much—sorry about that... My companion did enjoy it though. Breakfast was also beautifully prepared with many dishes; even something simple like the salmon was especially tasty. Whether by chance or because we chose an early time slot, it was very quiet while we ate—and that was nice too. I used the in-room bath many times and enjoyed it a lot. I’d love to visit again someday. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

Thank you for your kind thoughtfulness.
I stayed here as a small gift for my always-busy partner who loves Onsen. The free-flowing hot spring water was soothing, and they were truly delighted. They also noticed that my birthday was two days later and prepared a surprise celebration, which made me very happy. The staff’s hospitality was wonderful, and I genuinely enjoyed our stay. It had been a while since I visited the Hakone area, and I’m glad to have found an Accommodation that makes me want to return. Thank you very much.

Tucked away in a quiet setting
The location was right below Owakudani, and it was a modern, villa-like Accommodation. The surroundings were a quiet wooded area, and we were able to relax and unwind in the open-air bath attached to our Room. The calm staff, the impeccably clean Room, and the amenities—thoughtful down to the smallest details—were all wonderful. The meals were just the right amount for an elderly couple, and above all, they were richly flavored and truly impressive. My wife and I made great memories here. Thank you...
