    Terrace Tateshina is a place you'll want to visit whenever you have some free time. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the baths are excellent, and the buffet offers a wide variety of dishes that I absolutely love. It's perfect for spending quiet and relaxing moments. The comfort here is truly outstanding! The staff maintain a great balance in their service—attentive without being overbearing, which is very pleasant. Although the facility shows some signs of aging as it celebrates its 20th anniversary, everything is thoroughly cleaned and well-maintained. It's one of my favorite accommodations. I look forward to visiting again in winter—or perhaps even in autumn!

    I would like to use it again in the future.

    The staff provided heartfelt and attentive service, making our stay truly pleasant. The meals were delicious and not just a standard buffet, and the view of the Yatsugatake mountain range from the open-air bath was exceptional. Spending time on the deck in front of the lawn area was an unparalleled moment of relaxation. We would love to visit again!

    A bit disappointing

    This is our second visit following last year. We always choose Tateshina for summer, and this time we selected the same Plan as before, so the Room was great. However, due to the unusual lingering summer heat, the comforter felt a bit too warm. A thinner blanket might be better in such conditions. Everything else was satisfactory. It was a bit disappointing not to see the stars from the bath at night or spot any deer in the garden, but we look forward to visiting again next year!

    The Room is disappointing.

    The air was fresh, and although the clouds obstructed the stars, we were very satisfied with both the bath and meals. However, the tatami in the Room felt damp, making it uncomfortable to walk barefoot. I wanted to lie down on the tatami but couldn't... The TV's position under the stairs also made it difficult to watch depending on where you sat on the sofa.

    - Front desk service: 2 stars. Staff seemed unaware of our 2-night stay and even got the name wrong. - Personally, I wish dinner would return to the classic Italian course instead of the buffet. - It’s disappointing that it has shifted from being an adult-focused Resort Hotel to one catering mostly to families. - The Onsen is exceptional. The view from the open-air bath is stunning and truly relaxing.

    Overall, very satisfied.

    On the first day, I encountered a deer while walking on the on-site promenade, which was very exciting. On the second day, it rained, but I enjoyed watching movies and dramas through the in-room TV service. The IKYU Diamond benefits were generous, and overall it was a very satisfying stay. The stable guest demographic, possibly due to many using it as a company retreat Facility, is also appealing. Regarding meals, if you check in early, dinner may be scheduled at an earlier time (around 5:30 PM), so it's better to have lunch earlier before arriving.

    We made a Reservatio...

    We made a Reservation for a trip to Nagano with my partner. We chose Tateshina for its lush greenery and refreshing atmosphere. The Room was a single-story cottage, which was just the right size for two people. The spacious sofa made it perfect for relaxing and unwinding. Dinner was served buffet-style, with just the right variety—not too much or too little—for our one-night stay. The roast beef service stood out as staff came to each table to carve it, showcasing their attentive hospitality. At night, we enjoyed the bath, but when we went again in the morning, we were treated to stunning views of the Yatsugatake mountains that weren’t visible at night—highly recommend a morning bath! Walking from the cottage to the main building in the morning felt like a pleasant stroll and was very refreshing. After breakfast (hot coffee can be taken back to your Room!), we completed an early check-out process and visited the souvenir shop where we purchased salted yokan and jam. The staff kindly explained about salted yokan in detail, further highlighting their exceptional hospitality throughout our stay. After relaxing until check-out time, we got into our car parked near our cottage and left directly from there. It seems check-out time can get busy (we noticed many cars leaving), so completing it earlier might be more convenient. Thank you very much for providing such a refreshing and wonderful experience!

    Highland Resort

    For our first stay, we chose a cottage. It was conveniently located near the dining area and spa building. The modern design of the maisonette-style interior with its high ceilings was impressive, and the balcony was particularly pleasant. However, the lighting was dim, making it inconvenient for reading or writing. There was a desk with a lamp in the downstairs bedroom, so our family took turns using it for reading. It would have been nice to have at least one clock in the room, but we had to rely on our smartphones instead. The onsen had no chlorine smell and seemed genuinely natural with flowing water. The sauna and cold bath were also available, which my son thoroughly enjoyed. As for meals, based on reviews we checked beforehand, we didn’t expect much—and as anticipated—it wasn’t remarkable considering the price; however, we appreciated that there were options like roast beef and prosciutto that were well-received by everyone. Although we didn’t encounter any this time around, this facility is surrounded by magnificent nature where various wildlife such as deer and owls reside. We enjoyed listening to birdsong—something fresh and different from what you’d hear in Tokyo. This trip included one night in Kobuchizawa followed by another night at Terrace Tateshina—a total of 2 nights/3 days—and even my homebody husband enjoyed it thoroughly! Choosing this place turned out to be a great decision!

    The most well-balanced Hotel in Tateshina

    I chose the "Reasonable Room Assignment Plan." While I had prepared myself based on reviews mentioning uncleanliness or lack of proper cleaning, I found none of that to be true. The room was spacious, modern, clean, and very stylish—better than some highly-rated accommodations. The in-house wear and pajamas were incredibly comfortable, making my stay even more pleasant. As for the meals, although there were reviews about limited variety or lack of taste, I found them satisfying for this price range. While it may not compare to a top-tier hotel buffet in Tokyo, the flavors and variety were more than adequate. The roast beef provided for their 20th anniversary was tender, and the desserts and drinks were plentiful. The view from the window was serene and beautiful. As a Diamond Member benefit, we received champagne as well—a nice touch! My wife appreciated how it felt less tiring compared to kaiseki dining at luxury ryokans. The natural hot spring bath had just the right temperature—not too hot or cold—perfect for relaxing without rushing out. Although there are no bath towels available in the large public bath area itself, they can be easily exchanged at reception without any issue. If I must point out a downside: due to its wing-like structure with shared facilities in the center, rooms located at either end require quite a bit of walking. However, after meals or soaking in warm baths too long—it could be seen as an opportunity for light exercise or cooling down! Smokers might also appreciate having a smoking terrace attached to their room. The hand-drawn trekking maps provided by staff were adorable and useful—I took all of them! Without hesitation: next time we visit Tateshina again—we’ll stay here!

    Congratulations on the 20th Anniversary!

    I was very pleased to stay here at this timing. The buffet was outstanding, featuring seafood, eel, and even luxurious fruits like muskmelon—truly more extravagant than usual. This time, we stayed in a 4-bed cottage maisonette, and the spaciousness of the living room was remarkable. It seemed to be about 20 tatami mats in size just for the living area. I always wonder if it's really okay to offer such great value at this price—it almost feels too good to be true! It seems that the large public bath and open-air bath are scheduled for renovations soon, and I’m already excited to see how they will change.

    Blessed with good weather and great value for money.

    This was my first visit. Considering the Accommodation Fee, I found it to be very cost-effective. The maisonette cottage was spacious, and I had no issues with moving to the spa, which I initially worried about. I felt relaxed by the sounds of birds and insects. The spa was not crowded and offered breathtaking views. During the day, Mt. Yatsugatake looked beautiful, and at night, I was moved by the countless stars visible in the sky. The buffet meals were satisfying given the Accommodation Fee. The staff were all friendly and responded with a smile when I requested accommodations for my fruit allergy. While I wished there had been more time available for dining, it might have been limited to avoid overcrowding—so it's understandable. What disappointed me greatly were the dirt around the entrance area and terrace as well as handprints stuck on window glass. The terrace seemed neglected for quite some time despite being surrounded by such a lovely natural environment—it’s such a waste! Also, there was an issue with the TV remote control; even after replacing batteries, it seemed to have poor contact or malfunctioned. I wanted to explore more of your garden and found your one-day trip options appealing too! Overall, excellent value for money—I’ll definitely return again. Lastly, though you kindly provided me with a nearby map during my stay—I accidentally left it behind; my apologies! (sweat)

    The room was a cottage type, spacious and comfortable. The meals were buffet-style, so I didn't have high expectations, but the raw items like sashimi and sushi were not very good. However, the vegetables were delicious. Considering the reasonable price, I think it was acceptable.

    A convenient activity hub around Yatsugatake and Tateshina.

    A Resort Hotel in the highlands that is easy to use. The buffet's taste and quality are reasonable for the price, leaving no significant dissatisfaction. The hall staff, mostly young and friendly, leave a positive impression. The forest trail is perfect for a light morning jog.

    This is the Resort Hotel for you!

    This was our second stay following the one two years ago. Once again, it was a stay that did not disappoint, and we returned home fully satisfied. Even though it was May and recorded as a midsummer day, Tateshina lived up to its reputation! At an altitude of over 1,000 meters, there was no trace of the heat from lower altitudes. The maisonette room was convenient to use, and having two toilets—one on each floor—was a decisive factor for us. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see deer or squirrels as mentioned in other reviews, so we look forward to spotting them next time. Thanks to the good weather, we thoroughly enjoyed stargazing at night, morning walks, and views of Mt. Yatsugatake from the open-air bath. Both breakfast and dinner were well-managed with operations ensuring that the buffet area didn’t feel crowded—a thoughtful touch! We also received a lovely gift by reserving through IKYU.com!

    Spacious and comfortable.

    This was my first stay. The Room was spacious and comfortable. The breathtaking view from the bath was truly surprising. The staff were all kind, and the younger team members were efficient and professional, which was great. However, I wondered why there were so few staff handling check-in and check-out. During check-in, there was only one person available, and during check-out, just two people. At check-in, even though there were guests waiting, the staff member on duty was on a long phone call, leaving me wondering how long I would have to wait... For check-out as well, it felt like congestion is a chronic issue since the room guide suggested "pre-payment." However, even after pre-paying when returning the Room key, I still had to line up in the same queue due to no other Hotel staff being available at that time. Perhaps placing a pre-payment Room key return box could help improve this process? As for dinner, while there were various options available on the menu, I personally found some of them not very tasty—this part was disappointing for me. On the other hand, breakfast items like miso soup and salad were delicious! While I appreciated each individual staff member's attentiveness and politeness overall as individuals—I hope that as a Hotel you can take inspiration from other popular Hotels nearby & strive further improvements ahead!

    The Best Hotel

    We fully enjoyed the fresh greenery, cherry blossoms, and starry skies under clear blue skies. The stunning view of Mt. Yatsugatake from the open-air bath was exceptional, and we were amazed by the incredible value for money. The knowledgeable staff provided excellent recommendations for local shops and attractions, and their attentive service during meals was truly impressive. We will definitely be returning!

    The reservation was for six days and five nights with breakfast included. On the day of arrival, dinner reservations could not be made. After breakfast the next day, I reserved dinner for four days. On the first night of dinner, IKYU provided a complimentary plate and drink, which made me very happy. On the fourth night of dinner, the Hotel offered a complimentary plate. On the fifth night of dinner, there was another complimentary plate for our final meal, which left us very satisfied. The bath was also very satisfying. Thanks to this experience, my health improved as I headed home. Thank you very much!

    The staff's hospitality was excellent!

    Since it was a solo trip this time, I chose a room without specifying, but I was surprised by the very spacious room with a large glass window offering a great view. The in-room amenities were well-equipped, and above all, I was thrilled to find both the samue as loungewear and pajamas in the room, which is always my top priority. When I requested larger-sized items due to tightness around the waist, they were promptly delivered to my room. The staff at the front desk, shop, restaurant, and everywhere else were friendly and left a very positive impression on me; it made for a comfortable stay. Since it was a weekday meal plan rather than buffet-style dining but course meals instead; each dish was deliciously served at just the right timing while also being visually enjoyable. The shuttle service to Chino Station really helped me out. Although I felt sorry because there was only myself on both trips back-and-forth; nonetheless appreciated greatly! Despite not being able to use extended checkout benefits from IKYU Plan which would have been nice - more so grateful about getting transported by bus! I found that passageways leading up towards baths are too cold during this season—having something like shawls available along those sections would be beneficial—and pillows within rooms seemed too high for me personally: having lower ones accessible could prove helpful. It truly turned out as an excellent hotel where next time around I'd love visiting together with family!

    Yatsugatake Sunrise

    During this winter season, you can enjoy a view of the Yatsugatake sunrise on clear days. If you visit the large public bath early in the morning when it opens, you can witness the breathtaking transition from a starry sky to sunrise while soaking in the open-air bath. It was truly an amazing experience once again. While Tateshina is often associated with being a summer retreat, its stunning natural beauty can also be enjoyed during this midwinter period. This is a Hotel I want to cherish.

    It was a very satisfying stay.

    I have stayed here several times over the past 3-4 years. Until now, I thought the Facility was wonderful, but the meals were just ordinary. However, this time there were many dishes I wanted to try, and I was very satisfied. The IKYU appetizer was also delicious. The day I arrived was cloudy, but it snowed from midnight to morning, and when I woke up, everything was white. It cleared up afterward, and the contrast between the bright blue sky and the white snow was beautiful. I would like to visit during the fresh green season next time. As a solo traveler without a car, I always rely on the Shuttle Service, which is really helpful. After checking out, I went to Shimosuwa by train and visited Suwa Taisha Shrine.

    I stayed in November. The view from the onsen was beautiful during the autumn leaves season, and the room was spacious and very relaxing. The meals were buffet style, and I thought it would have been nice to have a few more options. The staff's service was very pleasant, and I would love to visit again in a different season.

    We used it for our first trip with our daughter's family.

    Originally, it was a friend's favorite hotel, and I stayed there several times upon their invitation. I also grew fond of it and visited several times with other friends and seniors. This time, I am using it with my daughter's family, a total of six people. As expected, the room is spacious, and the moment you open the door, a resort world unfolds. It has a wonderful layout and ample space that does not disappoint the family's expectations. Since it's December this time, we chose the main building without hesitation. (Every time I see guests walking outside after a bath, I wonder if they'll catch a chill.) In any case, it's a hotel that makes you want to visit again and again.

    It was a comfortable stay!

    It was the off-season, so I was able to spend my time leisurely. I've visited Tateshina many times, but this place has good access and a mature atmosphere, which was nice. The location where you can see Yatsugatake from the room was the best. It was a very luxurious view. The onsen was spacious and comfortable. At night, I could see Orion beautifully from the open-air bath. Meals were buffet-style for both breakfast and dinner. There weren't many varieties, but everything was delicious. It became a favorite property where I want to go back and relax again. The IKYU benefits were also very pleasing! Thank you very much.

    The crisp winter air in Shinshu was amazing.

    We stayed here for one night before going to see the autumn leaves at Minowa Dam, quietly hoping we might still catch Tateshina’s late foliage. In the end, at an elevation of 1,200 meters, the trees were already bare. Still, the beautiful mountains and Shinshu’s crisp winter air were wonderful. We stayed in a cottage, and the second-floor living room with a terrace would be perfect in summer. We headed straight to the Onsen we had been looking forward to—it offers different views depending on the time of day. We chose a late dinner time and went to the venue hungry. The staff kindly explained the first plate (“premier”), and I didn’t expect that to be the only dish that truly satisfied us. The buffet was neatly arranged but felt a bit limited in variety. We couldn’t really see any clear local-produce focus or concept, and many items looked like standard pre-made dishes—meals are probably where improvements are needed. Good food really elevates a trip, so it was disappointing given how nice the Facility is. Even with all-you-can-drink alcohol available, we didn’t end up drinking much. The live steak station was tucked away in a corner—honestly, it could be louder and more lively. I had mine with crunchy soy sauce. Overall, dinner received negative feedback from my partner as well. At night we enjoyed another soak while looking at the night view and stars—this Onsen truly lets you spend an excellent time. Getting back to the cottage via an indoor route from a secondary entrance was convenient as well. It was a cold night, but the cottage’s insulation and heating kept us warm (though it was quite noisy). The Room layout isn’t very efficient; since it’s maisonette-style, it may be tough for older guests, but younger families might actually enjoy it. The surrounding nature is magnificent, and the morning air felt great. An open-air bath while watching sunrise over the mountains was absolutely amazing. As for breakfast—we went in without high expectations. We were impressed by the ink-wash artwork used like placemats. The onigiri and sandwich performance was fun, but I think there could be more thought put into balancing or separating bread aromas from seaweed aromas. With its location/setting, Facilities, and Onsen all strong points overall balance-wise—I’d love to see more investment put into meals. There may certainly be challenges such as distribution or staffing issues; however if there were more dishes prepared by chefs on site this Accommodation would become even more appealing (in my opinion). We’d like to visit again for relaxation. Thank you very much to all staff members.

    Welcome to the Highlands!

    There was once a TV drama with a similar title. Unlike the drama, the space here is slightly larger, but you can truly feel the hospitality. Despite the rainy weather this time, the service starting from the Shuttle Service always makes me think it was truly worth coming here. The Room features high ceilings and an interior design that uses plenty of wood with attention to detail. Even after 20 years, you can still feel the passion of those who designed it, and surprisingly, it doesn’t feel outdated at all. The restaurant "Grandish" offers a buffet centered around a live steak kitchen. Personally, I also enjoyed their previous course meals which were visually delightful as well—I hope they bring them back someday! The large public bath and open-air bath are breathtaking compared to any other Facility. Be sure to try bathing early in the morning on a clear day while gazing at Yatsugatake during magic hour—it’s an experience that will surely make you forget all your worries. I look forward to visiting Tateshina again to meet those waiting for us on the terrace in this beautiful highland setting!

    This time we chose takeout. We couldn’t eat while out, so we enjoyed a generous and delicious meal in the Hotel garden, surrounded by beautiful autumn leaves. It was a truly luxurious moment. Still, given the season, we found ourselves wanting to enjoy hot food while it’s hot, so next time we may choose the buffet. The curry rice is delicious even when it cools down and is highly recommended. There are many dishes that make great use of vegetables, and I feel like I’m able to make up for the vegetables I often lack in my daily diet here. The open-air bath soothes me every time with its scenery. If we can also admire the sparkling stars and the moon, there’s nothing more to ask for. I’m also impressed every time by the efficient work and refreshing greetings from the Room cleaning staff. Thank you.
