    It was perfect.

    - Room: Spacious with a beautiful view—wonderful. - Dining: The one-party-per-day limited course was delicious, with every dish delicately seasoned. The breakfast and dinner buffets also had a great variety—I ate so much I couldn’t finish everything. - Bath: The washing area partitions were large, so I didn’t have to worry about getting splashed by showers from the side. The open-air bath view was amazing. The indoor bath also had plenty of jacuzzi space, and everything was clean and well maintained. - Staff: Usually there’s at least one person who seems unfriendly or is only polite on the surface but careless, but every staff member here was genuinely pleasant and provided courteous service. I brought my parents, and they both truly enjoyed themselves. They were especially impressed by how delicious the course meal was and by the baths. Thanks to you, I was able to do something really nice for them. Thank you very much. I’d love to come again.

    Thank you.

Thank you very much for your prompt and kind support when my wife’s condition suddenly worsened and required emergency assistance. We are also truly grateful for your thoughtfulness in preparing a breakfast box for us when we returned from the hospital. This stay ended up being quite hectic, but next time we would love to take our time and fully enjoy the Accommodation. Once again, thank you sincerely for your warm hospitality. Thank you very much.

I was soothed by the lush greenery filling the window.

I was able to spend a relaxing time and was very satisfied. The Room had large windows with beautiful views of nature, and I could unwind while reading. I even saw a mother deer and her fawn. There was also a small terrace, and I was happy to be able to enjoy the fresh air outside. Both dinner and breakfast were buffet-style, and every dish was delicious. I was especially impressed by how sweet the corn was. Being able to enjoy local ingredients left a strong impression on me. The large public bath also had a sauna and jacuzzi, and it was a nice touch that the hair dryer was ReFa. It was a highly satisfying stay down to the smallest details. There is just one thing I noticed. I received multiple amenity sets as an IKYU perk, which I truly appreciated, but there were no skincare items in the Room—they were only available in the bath area. If one of the perk amenity sets had been a skincare set that could be used in the Room as well, it would have made me even happier. I would love to visit again in another season. Thank you very much.

    Is the cottage family-friendly?

It was nice that when I arrived before check-in and left my luggage, they brought it to my Room for me. Dinner was a buffet, and each dish felt properly prepared, so it was delicious. Breakfast also had soba, and both Western and Japanese options were available, which was tasty. I stayed in a cottage, but getting around was very inconvenient. Going to eat or going to the bathhouse took some effort. The baths were crowded and felt hectic. However, the view from the open-air bath was indeed great. In my cottage Room, the emergency light stayed on the whole time and was very bright. It bothered me when I tried to sleep—I ended up sleeping with a towel over my eyes. There were also periodic noises from machinery running outside, which was loud. The Facility feels old. Also, since I had a lot of luggage, I wanted to ship it home by mail. At most good Hotels they will come to your Room to pick it up, but that wasn’t possible here. The cottage is quite far away, so I really wished they could have done just that—disappointing. Maybe you get what you pay for. On the plus side, taking a morning walk in the forest and seeing deer was lovely.

    Tateshina at its best.

The view of the trees through the large windows was soothing, the open-air bath was just as impressive in scale as shown in the photos, and we were very satisfied with how spacious and relaxing the room was. We were also lucky with the weather this time and had an amazing stay, so we’d love to visit once more before the end of the year.

    The meals were disappointing.

The cottage Room had a very nice atmosphere, but the bath was in the main building, so it was very far. It was raining, and my feet got wet on the way, which was disappointing. I thought that if the bath in the Room had been an Onsen, I could have enjoyed it even on a day like that. Meals were buffet-style, but there was hardly anything tasty except for the roast beef. For breakfast, maybe only the rice balls? Very disappointing.

We’d love to stay here again.

This was my first stay, and I booked a Multiple Night Stay. The Room was spacious, and I was able to relax comfortably. The staff were courteous and attentive, making this a Hotel I would definitely like to stay at again. The property felt open and very clean. Although it is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, it hardly felt dated at all. The pleasant setting surrounded by nature is also a wonderful highlight. The buffet seemed to offer a carefully selected variety of dishes, but everything was delicious and very satisfying. While relaxing in my Room after breakfast, a herd of more than ten deer appeared in the grassy area near the Hotel. I even saw fawns, which was truly heartwarming. When I stepped outside and moved a little closer, they became cautious and wandered off—but even that was charming and soothing to watch. I also remember fondly being able to spend quiet time while listening to birdsong. Overall, it was a highly satisfying stay at a Hotel that made me want to return.

    Scenic Open-Air Hot Spring Bath

I stayed with my 89-year-old mother. We were given a Room close to the main Facility, and we had a very comfortable stay. The corridor slope was gentle and had handrails, so even my mother, who has difficulty walking, could get around without trouble. From the open-air bath, we had a panoramic view of the Yatsugatake Mountains, and my mother enjoyed bathing twice—once in the evening and once in the morning. The guest Room also had large windows, allowing us to relax while looking out at the trees.

For the best Hotel experience, we recommend staying in—going out would be a waste.

A friend who originally introduced me to this place said they haven’t visited in a while and wanted to come again, so that’s what brought us here this time. Both check-in and check-out systems had been updated. The bath was wonderful—we went while it was still light out, enjoyed the view, and fully relaxed thanks to the nice weather. As for dinner, it somehow gets more delicious every time we visit, and my friend—who hadn’t been here in a while—was happy and said it tasted even better than before (sorry if that sounds rude). In the evening and during dinner, we could see wild deer in the distance, which made it even more exciting. (We also received an extra dish and champagne from IKYU; thank you very much for that as well as the other amenities.) I’ll be visiting again next month, and my friend said they’d like to come back again soon. I feel the same way. Thank you very much.

    Large Public Bath Renovation

This spring, the large public bath and open-air bath were renovated. The open-air bath now features premium cut-stone lining in the tub, and the hedge has been lowered to better enjoy the view. It has been transformed into an airy, open design that feels almost like an infinity bath, making it wonderfully relaxing to soak in. The lighting inside the tub has also been renewed and is brighter, giving a very different impression from before. At night, you can enjoy a softer glow and a distinct atmosphere compared with daytime. In addition, all showerheads at the washing stations in the large public bath have been replaced with ReFa models, creating a truly luxurious setup. The hair dryers in the changing room are also all ReFa, showing attention to detail throughout. This Hotel was already known for its baths, but this renovation further increased overall satisfaction. The openness of the open-air bath is especially impressive—while taking in Tateshina’s rich natural scenery, I was able to spend unhurried time unwinding. I believe this Accommodation is well worth visiting for its baths alone. I would love to stay again in a different season.

Soaking in the open-air bath was truly relaxing for both body and mind.

This was my first visit. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great, but there was some sunshine on the afternoon of the first day. Just as described in the Reviews, soaking in the open-air bath surrounded by the Alps and fresh greenery was an unforgettable, wonderful moment. The indoor bath and changing area in the large public bath were also clean. At dinner, we received a special perk, and above all, the view from the restaurant was stunning and very relaxing. The seating area was spacious. Our room was a maisonette type, and it was unexpected that we couldn’t see the garden view. However, it was roomy and felt like a luxurious space. The Shuttle Service from Chino Station was also extremely helpful. I’d like to visit again when it’s sunny.

    Relax and enjoy nature

We stayed here for a family trip. It’s set in a lovely, well-maintained forest, and we even spotted deer in the garden. The Facility does feel a bit dated, but it’s well cared for. We stayed in Cottage A; having two bedrooms was very convenient, and the living room was spacious enough that it was perfectly comfortable even with only adults. It also seems like a great place for a group of friends to stay without worrying too much about noise. The in-room bath was nice, but the large public bath was so good that we didn’t use it. There aren’t many washing stations, but it never felt insufficient. Above all, the scenic-view bath is outstanding—you’ll want to go back again and again at different times. The meals were tasty, but they lacked a standout highlight. Steak and roast beef no longer feel special, and the sushi was just okay. Rather than frozen hors d’oeuvres, I’d prefer crackers with cream cheese, prosciutto, and their signature tomato miso. Breakfast sandwiches were handmade. I also wish they would shape the rice balls fresh in front of you instead of just wrapping them with nori. This time we chose the takeout Plan, which I thought was a great idea because we could eat slowly in our Room or on the terrace. It would have been nice to have a microwave in the Room.

    All-You-Can-Drink Plan

The all-you-can-drink Plan includes three types of draft beer: Super Dry, dark beer, and half & half. I was happy to have these options. I especially love dark beer, so I chose this Plan without hesitation as soon as it became available. Last time we stayed in a cottage and had meals there, but the Onsen felt far away, so this time we chose the main building. It was nice and close. When we entered the in-room bath and washroom area, it was strangely hot and muggy. We will visit again.

Thank you for hosting us again.

Thank you for having us again, following our stay last September. For a relaxing Onsen soak after a short drive from central Tokyo, Terrace Tateshina is the place. As it has been 20 years since opening, the Facility feels a bit dated... However, everything was thoroughly cleaned down to every corner, and we were able to spend our time comfortably and at ease. The staff also maintain a pleasant distance without being overly attentive, which we really appreciate. That said, there are no shortcomings in the service or hospitality, and it always feels just as welcoming whenever we visit. The Onsen water quality is excellent, and the open-air bath with its grand panoramic view is especially wonderful! The buffet also features many local Nagano (Shinshu) ingredients, and everything was delicious. We will be back again soon.

This was our first stay as a family of three, including our 8-year-old child. On the morning of our arrival, snow was forecast locally, so we were worried about road conditions, but by midday the sun came out and there was hardly any ice, so we arrived safely and felt relieved. The room was just the right size, and the Onsen was very comfortable. As it was spring break, there were many families and young guests and it was lively, but the Facility is spacious enough that we were able to relax and spend a calm stay. We would love to stay again if we have the chance. By the way, I really liked the in-house loungewear—it was very comfortable to relax in. Thank you to all the staff.

    Complete satisfaction

As always, we truly appreciate the thoughtful, unobtrusive service. This time, the large public bath was under repair, so it operated on an alternating schedule for men and women. As I have some difficulty walking, I requested a Room close to the restaurant, and I was grateful that they accommodated my request. As it was their 25th anniversary, we also received a ¥2,000 in-house service voucher. It is also a wonderful touch that IKYU Points can be used immediately.

I visit several times a year.

Once again, we had a very satisfying stay. This hotel is perfect for when you want to relax in the onsen, enjoy a leisurely meal, and take your time to rest. The addition of electric vehicle charging facilities has made it an even more convenient accommodation for our family. We will visit again. Thank you very much!

    The Room is very comfortable.

This time, I chose a room in the main building. The high ceiling made the room feel very spacious and comfortable. Overall, it felt like a hotel nestled in the forest, and from the terrace of the room, you could see mountains in the distance. The sunrise from there was breathtaking. The interior of the room, underfloor heating, and bathroom were all well-maintained and impressive. I did not use the large public bath, so I cannot comment on that. As for dinner and breakfast, they felt slightly lacking; however, this is an accommodation I would love to stay at again.

A return visit after a year.

A year after my last visit, I traveled to Tateshina via Komoro from Karuizawa, crossing mountain passes along the way. The views of snow-capped Mt. Tateshina and Megami Lake were stunning. From the 1,700-meter lookout point further ahead, the autumn leaves had just started to turn—beautiful as well. Last time I stayed in a cottage, so this time I chose a Hotel and left the Room assignment up to you. It turned out to be a maisonette type, with access to the outside from both the first and second floors. The Room was cozy and warm. My favorite was the open-air bath at the large public bath—the view is incredible. The weather was cloudy, but late at night the moon appeared, and once again I felt that this Accommodation’s baths are truly outstanding. It seems that unless you make a Reservation for dining time in advance, you may end up with a slot after 7:00 p.m. For dinner I didn’t expect much when heading to the venue. The standard buffet felt like mostly pre-prepared items simply laid out (perhaps due to Facility policy), so it wasn’t particularly impressive—this was also disappointing on my previous stay. However, this time marked your 20th anniversary, and roast beef was served tableside from a mobile cart—what a pleasant surprise! That service made me very happy. The dining hall staff were also efficient and provided friendly service. There were more alcohol options as well, and with the premium all-you-can-drink plan being able to enjoy locally produced drinks is excellent. In the morning, I love watching sunrise over the mountains from the open-air bath—it feels truly awe-inspiring and always reminds me how glad I am that I came. Please consider placing something like sun visors there; it would reduce glare so guests can relax longer in the bath. Other guests also seemed bothered by how bright it was and left quickly. There weren’t many breakfast items that appealed to me, but one staff member making onigiri served them warmly and kindly—it was soothing. After eating, I enjoyed a walk on trails around the Hotel while listening to fallen leaves underfoot and taking in some forest bathing. After a relaxed check-out, I bought as souvenirs some delicious IPA beer sold nearby—the same one I enjoyed with dinner. Overall, food still feels like an area for improvement going forward. Aside from that, this is truly wonderful Accommodation in an excellent setting with an unbeatable location. If given another chance, I would love to return again. Thank you very much.

It was an accommodation where you could relax and unwind.

The building is not new, but it is well-maintained, and the room was spacious and very comfortable. Meals were served in a buffet style, and considering the price, the food was of excellent quality. It was delicious. I would love to stay here again.

    The open-air bath is exceptional.

The open-air bath was truly amazing. Even though I usually wake up late, I found myself getting up early to enjoy the morning bath. Surrounded by the scent of trees and with morning mist covering the mountains, soaking in the water amidst such a magical atmosphere was exceptional. On the day of our stay, we requested a room change, and your staff kindly accommodated us—thank you for that. The buffet had a wide variety of dishes, all delicious, making it a rejuvenating experience for both body and mind. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

Next time, I will stay longer.

I arrived at 10 PM and left at 8:30 AM, so my stay felt a bit short, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I used the bath both at night and in the morning, and although I usually skip breakfast, I decided to try it since it was offered. There were many options, and everything was delicious. I noticed other guests enjoying rice balls, so next time I'll make sure to try them—they looked tasty! (laughs) The building was clean and well-maintained, and the staff were all very friendly. If there's a next time, I'd love to stay longer!

We look forward to welcoming you again!

Terrace Tateshina is a place you'll want to visit whenever you have some free time. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, the baths are excellent, and the buffet offers a wide variety of dishes that I absolutely love. It's perfect for spending quiet and relaxing moments. The comfort here is truly outstanding! The staff maintain a great balance in their service—attentive without being overbearing, which is very pleasant. Although the facility shows some signs of aging as it celebrates its 20th anniversary, everything is thoroughly cleaned and well-maintained. It's one of my favorite accommodations. I look forward to visiting again in winter—or perhaps even in autumn!

I would like to use it again in the future.

The staff provided heartfelt and attentive service, making our stay truly pleasant. The meals were delicious and not just a standard buffet, and the view of the Yatsugatake mountain range from the open-air bath was exceptional. Spending time on the deck in front of the lawn area was an unparalleled moment of relaxation. We would love to visit again!

    A bit disappointing

This is our second visit following last year. We always choose Tateshina for summer, and this time we selected the same Plan as before, so the Room was great. However, due to the unusual lingering summer heat, the comforter felt a bit too warm. A thinner blanket might be better in such conditions. Everything else was satisfactory. It was a bit disappointing not to see the stars from the bath at night or spot any deer in the garden, but we look forward to visiting again next year!

    The Room is disappointing.

The air was fresh, and although the clouds obstructed the stars, we were very satisfied with both the bath and meals. However, the tatami in the Room felt damp, making it uncomfortable to walk barefoot. I wanted to lie down on the tatami but couldn't... The TV's position under the stairs also made it difficult to watch depending on where you sat on the sofa.
