    Laforet Gora

I stayed at Laforet Hakone Gora Yunosumika Aya Wing. Both the Room and the Onsen were wonderful, and I enjoyed bathing many times. The meals were also very delicious. However, since you need to move from the annex to the main building for dining, I think it would be better to have a covered walkway so guests don’t get wet in the rain. Overall, I received satisfying service. The system of purchasing amenities may be good for the environment, but considering the price, I think they should be provided in the Room.

    Mother-and-daughter trip

My daughter and I stayed for one night. Both the in-Room open-air bath and the large public bath were very relaxing. We had the Kiwami dinner course, which was carefully prepared and delicious. There were upgrade options for hitsumabushi or lobster for an additional fee, but unfortunately we don’t like either ingredient, so that was disappointing. We would have appreciated a few more choices. Points to improve: * For the in-Room open-air bath, there wasn’t a good place to change clothes. A partition screen would be helpful. * It was disappointing that some areas of the Room’s flooring had noticeable tape repairs. * I wish we had been told at check-in that socks were provided. Although there were a few things we noticed, all of the staff were kind, and it became a Hotel we would like to visit again.

    Relax and fully enjoy Hakone

Despite a typhoon hitting directly, we enjoyed a 2-night, 3-day getaway. The property is very conveniently located just a short walk from the cable car station, Naka-Gora. The building felt exceptionally clean—perhaps because shoes are not allowed indoors. We made a Reservation for a Room with an open-air bath. Being able to bathe whenever we liked and enjoy views of the distant mountains was truly wonderful. The meals were delicious, and the staff’s warm, smiling service left a strong impression. However, we were a little surprised that toothbrushes, hairbrushes, and razors are provided for an additional fee—perhaps due to environmental considerations. We may have overlooked this before our trip…

    No.

This was our first stay with our dog. We understood in advance that dogs are not allowed in the lobby, and also not allowed in the restaurant, so we made a Reservation for a Plan with breakfast and dinner served in the Room. Both meals were bento-style. The portions felt just right for us as an older couple, but they may be a bit small for younger guests. Overall: - Most of the breakfast items were things you could easily prepare at home. The side dishes were cold, and only the hot white rice was a relief... I also wished there had been even one yogurt after the meal... Also, there was no pot of hot tea provided. - The extra bed: since this is a Room where dogs stay, is it considered normal for it to be dirty? The sheets had other dogs’ hair and what looked like stains left as-is. We also weren’t told where the extra bed was or how to set it up; it was stored under the sofa, but this wasn’t explained when we first entered the Room, so we struggled. When we finally pulled out the extra bed, underneath was full of clumps of other dogs’ hair and dust. Is this unavoidable because it’s a dog-friendly Room? - The Room felt dim overall, and since there are no windows, ventilation is poor. Because it’s semi-basement level, you have to step outside and look up at the sky just to know what the weather is like. - We were surprised that the refrigerator in the Room was completely empty considering the accommodation rate (we expected at least a few local juices or beers). In reality there were only two bottles of water. If you advertise that guests can stay with dogs, I feel more space should have been made available so owners can move around more comfortably with their pets. Also—when we were leaving, we loaded our luggage into our car at the entrance. A staff member walked right past us just before departure but said nothing—not even “Thank you” or “Have a safe trip.” That really surprised us. It’s important to take care of inbound guests as well, but Japanese guests also choose carefully and come looking forward to their stay. I wanted more thoughtful attention to detail. Unfortunately, we won’t be staying again.

    Not worth the price

There was no sense of care in anything. Even inexpensive Business Hotels provide amenities free of charge, but here everything costs extra. Everything available for rental was out of stock. Even when ordering drinks, they were out of stock. Dinner and breakfast were served in the Room, but they did not bring tea or water unless asked. For breakfast, they simply replied, “We have black tea.” They also would not bring soy sauce unless requested. Do they really think Japanese guests would pair rice balls with black tea? If in-room dining is not possible, please do not advertise it. There was also no bathrobe for the private open-air bath in the guest room, so I had to walk around the Room naked. I was shocked at how poor the food quality was. As I wrote in the survey as well, I will never stay here again. I used it for a special occasion, but it was truly disappointing and fell far short of expectations. For a stay that is not cheap, this level of service undermines trust in the Laforet brand itself. I use IKYU often and have never experienced anything like this before. Please tell me what makes this a four-star property.

It was neither particularly good nor bad, but it fell short of my expectations.

We used the Welcome Baby Plan for our first family trip (2 nights/3 days). As the title suggests, it fell short of our expectations and I don’t think we will return. It was a bit disappointing. Below is my Review, summarizing what was good and what was disappointing. ○ What was good - Polite, baby-friendly service - Personally, I found the shoes-off style inside the building comfortable - The meals were delicious - The restaurant had a high chair (similar to a NemuRila), so we could lay our baby down, and it could be rocked when they got fussy - A convenient location, about a 30-minute drive from multiple sightseeing spots ○ What was disappointing - There are no convenience stores nearby, so for amenities or late-night snacks you basically have to use the shop inside the Hotel - Facility / equipment I knew this from researching in advance, but there aren’t many spaces other than the guest Room where you can spend time with your baby, so it wasn’t really possible to enjoy spending time around the Hotel itself - Meals Even if you go early, the breakfast buffet gave me an impression that only a small portion felt fresh. - Hygiene / cleanliness They responded promptly when I told them directly so I’ll omit details, but since this was our first trip with a 0-year-old baby, there were several things that concerned us. On the first day we couldn’t use the semi-open-air bath attached to our Room as a family. - Service issues Overall most services were polite and provided by baby-friendly staff members, which we appreciated; however, some explanations about dinner perks were insufficient and parts of the response left us uneasy.

The shuttle bus was very helpful.

I recently stayed here again after a long time. The room with an open-air bath allowed me to enjoy the Onsen without any worries and fully relax. For dinner, I opted for a light course. While I did think it would be nice to have Japanese cuisine as well, the meat was tender and delicious. I also appreciated being able to choose my meal options. Traveling with my elderly parents who have mobility issues, the shuttle bus service was truly helpful. Having a checkout time until 11:00 AM was great for allowing us to take our time and relax at our own pace. I will definitely come back again!

    70th Birthday Celebration

Stayed for a 70th birthday celebration. Despite mentioning the occasion multiple times, it was disappointing that nothing was prepared in the Room to acknowledge it. The meals and bath were excellent.

Used for the annual New Year family trip

Stayed at Ayakan. Used a twin Room for 3 adults, but the guest Room was small. The sofa bed was small and unsatisfactory. The bathroom in the Room was spacious and enjoyable. The food quality was surprisingly low; serving oden as a main dish felt disappointing. The entire facility lacked cleanliness, with noticeable dust everywhere. Would not revisit.

    Delicious breakfast!

We stayed with my mother-in-law as a group of three to celebrate the New Year. Since we made the reservation in a rush at the end of the year, we didn’t have high expectations, but we were deeply impressed by the staff's exceptional hospitality and the breakfast buffet featuring traditional New Year dishes. Despite working on New Year's Eve and Day, the staff provided warm and attentive service. Thank you very much! The only disappointment was that the room's tatami area had an extremely small table, and instead of chairs or proper seating, there were just two 3D cushions, making it difficult to relax in the room. For seniors, having chairs or a sofa would be more comfortable. Additionally, since I had some free time to unwind and wanted to read a book, I checked out the lounge space in the lobby but found only art collections and design books in foreign languages.

Dinner and breakfast were excellent. The public bath was disappointing.

We stayed as a group of six family members and relatives. The room was spacious, with tatami mats laid out in the area beyond the beds, allowing us to relax comfortably in the room. For dinner, we enjoyed a top-tier course meal as part of an early reservation benefit, and the breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of delicious options. The water temperature in the bath was just right, and the open-air bath was very pleasant. However, it seemed that the drain in the washing area was clogged; although it was just our family using it, water and soap overflowed while rinsing off our bodies, which felt slightly unpleasant. Overall though, we were satisfied with our stay.

No worries when bringing your baby along.

We stayed at the accommodation with our 4-month-old baby using the Baby Plan. We had reserved a baby crib in advance, and it was already set up in the room upon arrival, which was very helpful. Regarding the diapers included in the plan, we had informed them over the phone before our stay that we needed size S. However, when we tried them on, they were too small. We asked if it was possible to change to size M, and they kindly exchanged them for us. The room and private bath were spacious and clean, providing a very relaxing experience. About two-thirds of the guests seemed to be from overseas, but they were all friendly and even waved at our child. The meals were also very satisfying. Compared to some ryokans that serve large portions, this one offered just enough food for us to feel pleasantly full without overeating. We enjoyed eating sweets like manju purchased from nearby onsen town shops in our room afterward as well. There were also many sweet and delicious drinks available such as autumn-themed creative cocktails. The breakfast buffet featured many small dishes that paired perfectly with white rice, which made us happy. This is definitely an accommodation we'd love to stay at again!

Both breakfast and dinner were very delicious. It may not fall under the budget accommodation category, but it was a bit disappointing that even a toothbrush required an additional fee. Also, since only heating was available, I turned it off, but it was too hot to sleep. When I left the door open for ventilation, insects came in, causing some disturbance during the night.

The room had an open-air bath. It was a compact and cozy room with a sense of cleanliness. Compared to rooms without an open-air bath, the price was understandably higher, but amenities like toothbrushes were not complimentary and needed to be purchased at the shop by yourself. For the shuttle service, it was convenient that they came to pick us up when we contacted them upon arrival at Gora Station. However, for the return trip, we were told to make a reservation via a touch panel system. It gave the impression that guests need to take more initiative in this system. As for the onsen in the open-air bath, there were several times when it was cold when I wanted to use it, so I had to give up bathing then. I don't think I would visit again.

    The meals were delicious.

Overall, it was good, but there were a few concerns. First, I requested a wheelchair rental, but I was told that the one from Ayakan could not be used to move to the main building and that I should use the one provided in the main building. It was already difficult to get on and off, and having to bring it from the main building every time for meals felt overwhelming. Later, however, I was told that since they clean the wheels in the main building, I could use it as is. It would be better if this policy were consistent. Another issue was during dinner when there was no signature confirmation for drinks; instead, only an amount was charged. When I asked for clarification, they told me to stop by the main building. While understanding staff shortages might be an issue, bringing it directly here would have been more convenient. Isn't missing a signature confirmation a mistake on Hotel's part? Having us go out of our way for verification seems unreasonable. As for luggage service: while they helped carry items from our car to reception, we had to take them ourselves up to our Room. Overall service felt minimal at best; however, both the private bath in our Room and meals were excellent!

    Various Thoughts

Check-in can be crowded, and there was about a 10-minute wait with no luggage carts available. Inside the facility, guests are barefoot or in socks, which was uncomfortable for someone like me who is sensitive about cleanliness. There were bugs stuck to the mirror in the guest room, and spider webs and spiders in the shower. The Onsen in the guest room felt unsettling due to noise from neighboring rooms. The meals were delicious but portions were small.

The view from the room and the private open-air bath are exceptional!!

The weather was perfect in late June, and we were able to fully relax with the breathtaking view from our room and the private open-air bath with a hint of sulfur. The room was spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and we enjoyed a leisurely time. The temperature of the private open-air bath was set slightly high for the season. Although there was a "water" label, we didn’t realize it could be adjusted and thought it was just a faucet used during cleaning. We noticed this right before check-out and were able to enjoy it at an ideal temperature in the end, but clearer instructions would have been appreciated. Breakfast featured an array of well-prepared Japanese side dishes as described by "obanzai." My wife wasn’t feeling well on the second day but mentioned that she enjoyed the rice porridge and pickled plums. The facility overall was spotless, and all staff provided excellent service that made us feel very welcome. However, one point of concern is that while everything else about this wonderful accommodation exceeded expectations, I felt that satisfaction with the public bath did not contribute as much to enhancing its overall image as it could have. The changing area is stylish and clean (my wife particularly liked the amenities and showerhead), so perhaps some additional improvements could enhance satisfaction for guests staying in rooms without private open-air baths. Thank you for your hospitality! We would love to visit again during another season!

Relax and enjoy a fulfilling stay.

Stayed in the main building, in a Western-style room with a private onsen open-air bath. Received a welcome drink at check-in. The cold drink was refreshing and comforting, especially since it was hot outside. The staff's kind and attentive service was truly soothing. The onsen was excellent as well. Dinner was served in the room as part of the plan, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing meal. Every dish was delicious, and I wish to express my gratitude to the chef for both the taste and portion sizes being perfect. I would love to visit again. Thank you for your hospitality!

I stayed here to celebrate a birthday. The private Onsen in the room was wonderful. Since it was outdoors, I expected some insects or slight dirt, but it was impeccably clean and well-maintained. Being able to enjoy the Onsen at any time was fantastic. Regarding meals, they carefully and thoroughly checked for allergies, which gave me great peace of mind. Every staff member provided kind and attentive service. I would love to stay here again someday!

It was a very nice Onsen.

Stayed in the main building, Western-style room with a private onsen open-air bath. The onsen in the room was perfect in temperature and could be enjoyed multiple times at any time. Accommodation with Your Beloved Dog

Laforet Hakone Gora Yunosumi - First Visit. The Facility was clean, and the staff's service was kind and attentive. The meals were satisfying and very delicious. At check-in, I was surprised by the explanation that we could go directly to the Room without passing through the front desk. Later, a staff member carried our luggage and guided us to the Room, which made sense. For guests with dogs, there is direct access to Rooms from outside. After returning from a walk, you can wash your dog's paws using warm water in a wooden tub set next to the open-air bath before entering the Room—an impressive setup for pet owners' convenience. I would like to stay here again when traveling to Hakone!

    Answer

    Unfortunately.

First-time Use During the online Reservation, I clearly mentioned having allergies. At check-in, I filled out a medical questionnaire. However, when dinner started, a man in a black shirt asked me, "You don't have any allergies, right?" Of course, I replied that I do have allergies. I was then asked to fill out the questionnaire again and informed them that it had already been completed. At this point, it was clear there was a communication error and no proper sharing of information had occurred. This led to the worst dining experience starting off poorly. They recommended upgrading some dishes in the course meal; while I agreed to some upgrades, those additional dishes never arrived. The dessert also contained items I'm allergic to—this was extremely disappointing. While not blaming foreign staff specifically for issues like cleaning being handled mostly by them or hotel supplies being stored visibly near electrical panels during cleaning—it felt unprofessional overall. The showerhead base was broken with water spraying everywhere; unclear why such basic maintenance wasn’t addressed. As an adult capable of avoiding allergens myself—it’s crucial families traveling w/ small children **strongly communicate concerns** directly toward staff beforehand! Although staying newer annex facilities seemed promising beyond outdoor baths—the rest fell short significantly despite kind-hearted employees trying their best ultimately leaving us disappointed trip-wise overall!

    The new building was wonderful!

I stayed at the new building. The Room had an open-air bath, which was attractive as it could be used anytime. The Room with its clean and chic interior was very relaxing. The meals in the morning and evening were also very delicious. There was enough space between seats, so I could enjoy my meal without worrying about others. In the Review, it mentioned that moving to the main building was troublesome, but since it's very close, I didn't feel any inconvenience. More than that, I was concerned about the damage on the Shuttle Service vehicle. I would like to stay again.

It was a property I would like to repeat.

We stayed for two nights in a Room with an open-air bath. I was relieved that the dinner menu was changed daily so it wasn't the same every night. We stayed in the annex, and I appreciated that they provided new towels at the front desk when entering the large public bath. It was also great to use items like ReFa hair dryers and steamers in the women's bath, which we don't usually use, adding a sense of value. Our elementary school children were very satisfied and we would love to visit again. The only improvement I'd suggest is regarding the breakfast buffet; the lids for miso soup and rice are too heavy and large, making them difficult to place and pour from. It would be helpful if there were stands for lids or if they were made lighter, especially from a woman's or shorter person's perspective.

    It was unfortunate.

I had high expectations, but it was a disappointing property far from the good reviews. There were many concerns such as greetings at the entrance, guidance on carrying luggage and removing shoes, and waiting time until check-in. The room was relaxing with an open-air bath. The distance between the shower and the open-air bath was also close and good. The meal was disappointing; although it's understandable that the seasoning didn't suit my taste, despite having many waiters, none were attentive. Also, I think it's better not to serve the main meat dish together with ochazuke (rice in tea).

Family trip with your beloved dog

Enjoy a relaxing Onsen with your beloved dog. The delicious meals are one of the highlights, and my family was also satisfied. While waiting for check-in with my dog, I appreciated the kindness of the front desk staff who brought us drinks. The restaurant staff were also pleasant, making it a very comfortable stay.
