It feels like a ghost might appear.
The Room felt spooky, like a ghost might appear. There was no hot water in the shower. I’m glad I chose the day-use Plan.

The hospitality and the food were wonderful!
After reading various Reviews, I stayed here with my partner. The service was excellent, and the food was very delicious. Perhaps it can’t be helped because the building is old, but the smell in the Room was quite strong (maybe due to its age), and it bothered me so much that I couldn’t sleep well. It was at a level where I wanted to tell the front desk and ask to change Rooms. It was a bit disappointing, as everything else was great.

Harsh / strict
We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath this time. The amount of hot spring water flowing from the source was far too little, and since the window wouldn’t close, the water temperature was so low that I thought I might catch a cold. The air conditioning in the dining area also seemed inadequate, and I ended up sweating throughout the meal—even though I had taken a bath to freshen up before going to eat…

Disappointed
Based on the positive Reviews, I went with fairly high expectations, but… The Facility is old, and the Room window glass was extremely dirty. All the staff were pleasant, but messages and requests were not communicated at all, so nothing could be resolved in a single attempt. As for the food—often praised in Reviews—it felt like cold sukiyaki, lukewarm fish poêlé, sashimi that was oddly watery, and a breakfast like something you’d get at a school trip Accommodation. Since the price is on the cheaper side, I don’t really have much room to complain.

Everything was delicious, and we were very satisfied!
We stayed for one night and two days. The staff were very attentive, and above all, the meals were delicious!!!! The portions were just right. And the private open-air bath! It was spacious, and since we could use it whenever it was available, we ended up going three times. The only thing that concerned us was that the Room and the bath could be seen from the building above... I know it may be difficult, but I would appreciate it if you could consider some countermeasures. We had a wonderful holiday! Thank you!

Everything exceeded my expectations.
We stayed here on a trip that also celebrated a family occasion. Everything was wonderful—the Onsen, the spacious Room, the view, and the staff’s service. The building and Rooms have a sense of history, but everything was thoroughly cleaned, so we felt comfortable staying there. The food was delicious, and the presentation was beautiful as well. The portions were very generous, so I think even men will feel completely full. Women can probably finish it too if they try hard. At dinner, we ordered an upgrade to a parfait with Daiginjo pudding (I believe it was 1,000 yen), but we were already full before it arrived and ate it anyway, so we couldn’t really enjoy the taste—something I regret. I would have been happy if it had less whipped cream and cost around 500 yen. All of the staff were very kind, and there were also international staff in the restaurant, so it seems like a safe choice for travelers from overseas as well—I highly recommend this place. Everyone greeted us with smiles, which made us very happy. We made wonderful memories with my mother! We would love to stay again—thank you very much!

Travel mood
I’ve been too busy to take a relaxing trip, but this Plan is amazing! The Room even has its own bath, and you can enjoy the private bath while listening to the river, as well as unlimited access to the large public bath. Meals are included too, so I’m completely satisfied. It would be even better if the dishes changed monthly. I’d love to stay every month.

It was a wonderful accommodation.
We stayed one night in a Room with a private bath. Since it’s in the mountains, we were able to relax and get away from the usual hustle and bustle. Dinner was served as a course, one dish at a time, but while I was still eating, they sometimes cleared my husband’s finished plate. My husband used to work at a Hotel and seemed surprised by this. After he mentioned it, I thought, “Come to think of it, that hasn’t happened at other Accommodations,” but that was the only thing that stood out. The food was very delicious, and we were able to unwind in the in-room bath as well—we had a wonderful time.

Highly satisfied.
Thank you very much for your hospitality. Since we suddenly had time the day before and made a last-minute Reservation, we were able to stay at a very reasonable rate, yet we truly appreciated being soothed by the delicious meals and the Onsen. The Room was clean and practical, and the private open-air bath was spacious; hearing the river’s gentle murmur was wonderfully relaxing. It’s amazing that we could use it anytime for free as long as it was available. We were completely satisfied with both the presentation and seasoning of the meals, and the portions were just right for us as a couple. The background music was also lovely. We had no complaints overall, but it was a pity that we would have liked two bath towels, and that the hair dryer in the large public bath had weak airflow. Overall, we were very satisfied with everyone’s thoughtful service. This is an Accommodation we would definitely like to visit again.

Day Use
Hakone offers a wide variety of Accommodations, so we choose a different one each time. Of course, prices vary as well. Since many Accommodations in Hakone are generally on the expensive side, I usually don’t write a Review unless I’m left with an extremely good or bad impression—but Nanase left such a wonderful impression that I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you. As this was a day trip, we didn’t have meals or stay overnight from evening to morning, but if we visit again, we would love to use your Accommodation again. Next time, I hope to be able to use all three private baths.

Family-friendly travel
We informed them that we were traveling with a baby, and they prepared a high chair for meals and a baby bath for the private bath. When our baby got fussy, they also brought dessert to our Room. The private bath had spring water that was suitable for babies, which was great. The rice in the meals was delicious.

Everything about it is wonderful.
I recently enjoyed a day-use stay at Hotel Hakone Nanase. Although my visit was only seven hours, it was a truly blissful and deeply relaxing experience. The suite I stayed in featured a semi-open-air bath with free-flowing natural hot spring water, as well as a separate shower room. From the open-air bath, I could enjoy the soothing sounds of the river, insects chirping, and even passing trains—an unforgettable escape from everyday life. The spacious layout and calm furnishings were beautifully balanced, and the moment I opened the door, an expansive natural setting seemed to unfold before me. With the view from the window and the peaceful quiet all around, I savored what felt like a well-deserved personal reward. What stood out most was the exceptional quality of the dining. Every dish at dinner showcased delicate flavors that brought out the best in each ingredient, offering surprise and delight with every course. The seasonal presentation and rich umami that spread with each bite left both my heart and appetite completely satisfied. The staff’s service also left a lasting impression. From check-in to check-out, their thoughtful attention and courteous support made me feel comfortable and at ease throughout my stay. Their warm hospitality truly reflects this Hotel’s refined standard. I am sincerely grateful to have spent such high-quality time in Hakone. Even though it was brief, I felt thoroughly refreshed both physically and mentally. I would love to return again in another season. Thank you very much.

The hospitality and food were excellent!
This was my first time staying at this Hotel as a solo traveler. In Hakone, I have stayed at almost all Accommodations with open-air baths and private dining, so in a sense this Hotel was the last one for me. As you would expect in Hakone, the Facility does feel a bit old, but that can also be part of its charm for international guests. There are bilingual staff members, so it felt like there were quite a few international guests. Even so—just as with Japanese guests—the overall clientele was very calm and relaxed. Although the number of staff seemed small, their hospitality was excellent—like the attentive service of a butler I often experience overseas. For dinner and breakfast, I think the portions are sufficient if you drink alcohol; since I don’t drink, it would have been perfect with just a little more food. That said, while not flashy or extravagant, both meals were refined in content and quality. There were also thoughtful touches throughout, and everything was delicious. Most importantly, check-in is at 15:00, but even though I arrived early around 14:00, they let me in because my Room was ready!! In Hakone there are surprisingly many places with rather mechanical service, so this was truly appreciated. The Room was a suite with a semi-open-air bath made of hinoki cypress; the tub is quite spacious and fine even for two people. However, my Room did not allow adding cold water to adjust the temperature; since I usually bathe at around 39–40°C (102–104°F), it felt hot to me—though this depends on personal preference. I split my time about 50/50 between Japan and overseas travel overall, so if I have another chance, I would like to stay at this Hotel again.

Fresh green mountains and free-flowing natural Onsen spring water
Thank you for taking care of me on 4/14 (my first stay) and again on 4/19. I was surprised to see how lively Hakone was everywhere, with so many inbound visitors. Hakone’s strengths are its easy access from Tokyo and well-practiced hospitality—you can stay with peace of mind because it rarely disappoints. This Accommodation is a historic building, but it is well maintained and very clean. The Rooms feel luxuriously designed—like they once hosted wealthy guests—and you can enjoy famous paintings collected at auction by the original private owner, displayed both inside the Room and along the corridors. On the 5th floor, many of the artworks feature Kyoto maiko. Because the property sits right above a fast-flowing river gorge, some guests may find the sound loud depending on the Room. I personally love it, so I deliberately chose a Room closer to the gorge. The in-room semi-open-air bath had gentle Onsen water, and depending on the Room, the tub was generously sized. Soaking slowly while looking out over mountains glowing with fresh greenery felt like an indescribable luxury. The meals are creative cuisine blending Japanese and Western styles. Dinner was just the right portion size, lightly seasoned, and made with good ingredients—healthy and satisfying. However, breakfast felt like a noticeable drop in quality. The natto and pickles seemed like inexpensive supermarket items, and even though pork was grilled at the table, it was surprisingly tough (laugh). Also, within the same month, even if you stay on different dates, both dinner and breakfast menus are identical. Of the two interior locks in my Room, I noticed that only nail marks remained where one upper lock should have been installed; when I mentioned it to you, it had been properly installed by my next stay. Also during meal service there was one staff member not wearing a mask; after I mentioned that as well, everyone wore masks during service on my next visit. It’s wonderful to see such an attitude of addressing what can be fixed immediately!! All staff members were gentle and pleasant. One last thing: beverages such as tea and coffee—both from the server on the first floor and those provided in-Room—did not feel particularly high in quality. This is such a nice Accommodation; I hope you will maintain overall quality while also managing costs. As someone who loves Onsen, this has become one of my candidates for repeat stays. I look forward to visiting again—thank you in advance for your continued hospitality.

We had a very relaxing stay.
The in-Room natural Onsen bath was spacious and comfortable. The view from there was also wonderfully open and refreshing. The meals were very delicious as well. Thank you for kindly going out of your way to return the coin purse I accidentally left behind.

Body Odor on Towels and in the Room
The Onsen was excellent, but the bath towels and other towels still had a sweaty odor. After getting out of the Onsen and drying off, the smell transferred to my body, which was disappointing. The Room also had a lingering body odor in the sofa and carpet, and even using the in-room fabric spray didn’t help. It bothered me so much that I couldn’t fall asleep. I didn’t mention it during my stay because I didn’t want to make an issue of it. If this is improved, I may consider staying again.

Satisfied with everything
Birdsong, the murmur of the river, lush green trees swaying in the wind, and now and then a glimpse of the red mountain train. In the deep quiet, you can hear the sound of water in the natural hot spring bath. Everything matched the atmosphere of our Room perfectly—it was truly wonderful. At work there are children’s lively voices, and when I return home there are my grandchildren’s energetic footsteps. With such busy days, coming here to rest both my mind and ears was absolutely the right choice. It had also been a long time since we enjoyed a meal slowly and savoring each bite. The birthday cake we requested for my husband had an exceptionally soft, fluffy sponge and gently flavored cream—truly delicious. The open-air bath felt wonderful no matter how many times we entered it, and reading while soaking in the footbath was also very nice. For us, who came seeking natural hot spring baths, tranquility, and delicious food, this Accommodation was completely satisfying. We will come again to rest our bodies. Thank you very much.

The Japanese-style meals were delicious.
We stayed for two nights as a couple. The Room was comfortable and we were able to relax well. Dinner was Japanese cuisine, delicious, and not too heavy in portion size, which was perfect for us. Breakfast was also Japanese style and good, but it was disappointing that the side dish fish was the same type on both days. There was a free-flowing Onsen bath in the Room, but there was no glass in the window next to the tub—only blinds—so we could feel the cold wind directly on our bodies and it was too cold to use. It might be tough to stay here in midwinter. (I’m not sure about other rooms.)

It was very disappointing.
Please do not assign guests to rooms where the air conditioner cannot be used normally and then blame it on the facilities just because it was after heavy snowfall. The air conditioner stopped repeatedly, I was not allowed to change rooms, and I got tired of contacting you; I became unwell from the cold. Honestly, the hallway was warmer. If the air conditioner is prone to stopping, shouldn’t you at least confirm this with guests in advance? If you had informed me properly, given the season, I would have chosen not to stay. I am beyond angry—I am appalled.

It may be reasonably priced, but...
I made a Reservation for a suite on IKYU, but the Room I was actually shown to was listed as a junior suite on IKYU. I only noticed after some time, so I didn’t feel comfortable bringing it up. In addition, the in-room equipment felt outdated and poorly maintained. In particular, the old air conditioner kept making a rotating noise that disturbed my sleep. The toilet lever was almost broken and wouldn’t flush unless I turned it several times. The bed was so worn that I could feel the springs, and it was not comfortable to sleep on. None of these were outright breakdowns, but they were not conducive to a comfortable stay, which was disappointing. The Onsen and meals felt reasonably priced and good. Most of the staff were foreign nationals, but their Japanese was excellent and they were very kind. Overall, my impression was that the property is cutting costs by using aging facilities and equipment right up to the end of their lifespan.

This is a wonderful Accommodation, and the Onsen is good for sciatica.
The best Room I stayed in last time had a bath that was cold in winter, but this time the Room with an open-air bath is the best. Placing a space heater in the washroom makes the bathroom a bit warmer. The meals are also excellent—the rice is delicious. The flavors are pleasantly light as well. I’d love to see a better Bordeaux Médoc wine selection. The service is great, and it would be even better if checkout were at 12:00. This is an Accommodation I want to visit again. I bathed many times, and as before, it helped my sciatica. The water was lukewarm, so I asked for more hot water; it became perfectly hot and was wonderful. Thank you again, and I look forward to returning. I also used the private bath, and it was very good.

The Facility is good, and the Onsen is also nice, but...
The Facility and service are flawless. The Onsen is also great, and both the private bath and the indoor bath have a wonderful atmosphere. However, the indoor Onsen water temperature is extremely hot. I understand it’s natural spring water, but I wish it could be diluted a little with cold water (lol). Even when I tried to take it slowly and get used to the temperature starting from my feet, the difference from the outside air temperature was so great that my upper body kept getting colder and colder, and there were moments when I started shivering uncontrollably and felt unsafe. Overall, the Facility and meals are excellent, so I plan to return—but I realized I’ll need to figure out the best way to enjoy the Onsen.

Quite impressive.
The blind in the Room bath was broken. The staff said a previous guest had hung from it and broke it, but it looked like it had been broken for quite some time. Why hasn’t it been fixed? Or is the management under such financial strain that it can’t be repaired? Also, a light bulb in the large public bath sauna was out, but when I told the front desk, they said it was on. It was pitch-black and definitely not lit. The door push plate was also loose and wobbly. Given the recent sauna incident in Akasaka, I want them to manage and maintain things properly. Overall, this Accommodation felt off in many ways.

I was soothed by the Onsen.
Even if a Room in an Accommodation in Hakone has an open-air bath, it often isn’t an Onsen, but this Accommodation was wonderful with free-flowing Onsen water. I also visited the large public bath once; it felt a bit lacking without an open-air bath, so if you stay in a Room without one, you’ll probably use it together with the private open-air bath. The food was delicious, and the portions were just right—not too much. I think this is an Accommodation you can be satisfied with in every way.

The open-air bath is cold, and insects can get in.
This is a wonderful Accommodation. The Room is spacious and clean, but the open-air bath in the Room was cold, insects got in, there was no screen door, and the window was too large. The meals were great and the wine was inexpensive. I’d like to come again. Thank you for the Shuttle Service as well.

I was able to relax and take it easy.
The service was very courteous, the food was delicious, and we enjoyed the private Onsen, but I have a few concerns I’d like to share. Above the seat where we ate, there was what seemed to be an air vent, and the airflow from the air conditioning blew directly onto our food. As a result, the dishes dried out, the hand towel became completely dry in less than 10 minutes, and our hot pot would not come to a boil. The staff assisting us all looked up at the ceiling together, so I believe they were aware of it. You might think we could have asked to change seats, but since it was only one seat at a four-person table affected, it made me think that someone will always end up eating with that issue. I hope seating arrangements can be adjusted. Also, while we were getting ready in our room before checkout, the door was unlocked and opened without any knock. Checkout is at 11:00, and this happened around 10:50. While it’s partly on us for being slow to get ready, it still surprised us. It was probably housekeeping coming for bed-making/cleaning, but they closed the door and left without apologizing—at least a brief word would have been appreciated. Given the price point, this was disappointing. At checkout, however, you kindly gave us detailed advice on sightseeing spots and we enjoyed our day—thank you very much. The food was truly excellent.

The warmth of the cuisine and staff is impressive.
We stayed here to celebrate my husband's birthday. The room had a semi-open-air hot spring bath, which was excellent, and the private open-air baths were easy to use without needing a reservation. The view of the river right in front of the room was beautiful. (However, please note that when using the semi-open-air or private open-air baths, they might be visible from nearby roads or buildings.) Although it seems unlikely for someone to intrude from outside, I was slightly concerned about security as there was no lock between the semi-open-air bath and the bedroom. Regarding the room itself, as mentioned in other reviews, it felt somewhat dated overall. There were areas around windows that seemed inadequately cleaned, and some furnishings like chairs and baskets appeared quite old. Despite being called a "Junior Suite," I found it disappointing that only water and green tea leaves were provided as drinks in the room and that amenities were limited. Additionally, there were no traditional Japanese jackets (hanten), which was slightly disappointing; however, with good air conditioning, we didn’t feel cold at all. It would have been nice if socks had been provided too. Unfortunately, my husband’s men’s samue pants were torn as well. The meals tasted very delicious and left us highly satisfied; however, considering the price point, we would have appreciated slightly larger portions. That said, my husband exclaimed he had never eaten such delicious appetizers before! He was thrilled with them. As I am currently pregnant, they thoughtfully prepared a menu tailored to my needs—thank you so much to everyone in the kitchen team for your care! All staff members were cheerful and kind overall—leaving us with a very positive impression throughout our stay. However, one small concern arose when drinks on our table menu had trays placed directly on top during service—it felt slightly careless. The cake we requested for celebration purposes tasted amazing; my husband loved it! When my husband suffered sudden back pain during our stay (a slipped disc), staff promptly brought over pain relief patches—this gesture truly helped us out! Both male and female front desk staff maintained their friendly demeanor throughout. Overall impressions: this accommodation feels like an “almost perfect” place but falls short due mainly due outdated interiors/facilities alongside limited amenities & drink options within rooms plus meal presentation lacking extravagance given pricing expectations. With improvements made across these aspects mentioned above—I’d gladly return someday!

This was my first visit. The staff's hospitality was very pleasant. The meals were excellent in both quantity and taste. If I had to mention one thing, it would be nice to have something like a hanten (traditional Japanese jacket). That said, this is a Ryokan I would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

Polite and attentive service
Stayed on a weekday in mid-December. The service was very courteous, allowing for a peaceful and relaxing time. Both dinner and breakfast were plentiful and delicious. Since the public bath only has indoor facilities, we recommend using the private open-air bath! The room was spacious, and I would love to stay at this accommodation again.
