    The lobby area has been renovated and looks clean and beautiful.

    I arrived early and asked the front desk if I could eat the bread I bought at the shop in the attached bookstore. When I went there, they told me, "It's a paid service." The front desk staff accompanied me back to resolve the issue, but it would have been nice if the bookstore staff had simply asked, "Are you a guest?" Dinner was delicious kaiseki cuisine, but breakfast was served in an old venue with no chef making omelets and limited variety.

    Old Room and Disappointing Breakfast

    Stayed in a room with an open-air bath. Although it was advertised as renovated, only the washroom and open-air bath of the room with an old alcove were updated. The room itself remained old. Chose this accommodation after seeing Pierre Hermé croissants for breakfast on the website, but was disappointed by how different it was from expectations.

    Even better the second time

    This was my second stay. I was delighted that the staff remembered my previous visit and provided helpful travel advice. Thank you to the welcoming female staff member and the attendant who took care of us—it made for a wonderful trip. The meals at Suimeiso were exceptionally well-balanced and delicious, both in the evening and morning. The tea-based cocktail served at the bar by the bartender I met during my last visit also contributed to an enjoyable evening. It would be convenient if the security card for the bath could be integrated with the room key.

    Accessible facilities available

    The open-air bath was very relaxing. It would be perfect if you don't mind being visible from outside. The stylish stores like the book café "Sanpuku" and Pierre Hermé were also delightful. However, carrying luggage up the stairs was a bit tough, though it became a memorable experience. While the traditional architecture of the building is charming, voices in the hallways and staircases echoed loudly and were quite disruptive. Since it's far from the lobby, it might not be monitored closely, but having noise until around 1 AM was a bit exhausting.

    The facility was old.

    The property is spacious and seems to require a lot of maintenance, which appears to be managed with effort. While the lobby area was clean, some areas such as the large public bath, Room, and parts of the facility had issues like creaky floors or stained wallpaper. Even within the Room itself, there were both well-maintained and less tidy spots, leaving uncertainty about how much renovation will be done in the future. During check-in, despite rooms being available, we were made to wait while other guests who arrived after us were attended to first. This left a poor impression as we were already tired. Additionally, the large outdoor bath for women was closed during our stay. We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath attached, which was enjoyable. The new shops set up near the lobby had a modern vibe and offered various things to explore. As for meals, the tofu hot pot at breakfast was delicious. However, dinner seemed overly elaborate—such as steak with flavors reminiscent of beef stew—and left us unsure if it was enjoyable or not; we regretted not opting for something simpler like shabu-shabu instead.

    Delightful surprises await you everywhere...

    After much consideration, I decided to stay here with my elderly mother. Including cost performance, it turned out to be the right choice. The phone inquiry beforehand was very accurate and kind, leaving a great first impression. The accommodation is spacious and enjoyable just to explore. There are eye-catching sculptures, pottery, and an attached tea shop where you can purchase drinks. There's also a library or bookstore where I ended up buying a book—it’s easy to lose track of time there. The bath requires descending about 20 steep steps, but there is an automatic chair lift for those who have difficulty walking. Although we didn’t use it this time, it’s certainly helpful for other elderly guests. Meals were served at Rikyu with kaiseki cuisine in a private room. Despite their youth, the staff provided excellent service. Ureshino tea was featured prominently throughout the meal—a unique touch that made dining here special and relaxing. After dinner, we visited the bar run by the tea shop. Guests receive complimentary tea vouchers; I enjoyed cold tea served in beautiful glasses for my first drink and tried a surprising yet refreshing combination of matcha Kahlúa milk for my second drink—it was delicious! While the building itself shows its age, it adds charm to the atmosphere overall. My mother especially loved the bookstore and expressed her desire for a multiple night stay next time!

    The building is old,...

    The building is old, but the interior and rooms were clean and comfortable. Having separate areas for the washroom and toilet was also a nice feature. Dinner was served in a semi-private room, allowing us to enjoy it slowly and deliciously. The staff's hospitality was excellent, making our time enjoyable. The sweets provided in the room were very tasty, but when we asked at the front desk, we were told they are not available for purchase.

    It was not great.

    30 years ago, I stayed at Suimeiso and had a very satisfying experience, so this time I used IKYU for the first time. The suite room was spacious and had a nice atmosphere. However, despite having made an advance payment through IKYU, upon arrival at the front desk, a female staff member strongly insisted that it was set as "Local Payment." Additionally, when choosing breakfast, I requested the Japanese set meal. However, one person in another room from our group was told they could not use the same breakfast venue without any detailed explanation, which left us confused. There was no prior explanation about this issue either during the IKYU application process or through phone reservations. Everyone in our group felt dissatisfied with this matter regarding breakfast. Furthermore, in Room 1120 where we stayed, the bathtub drainage was poor and water remained around our feet for a long time while bathing, which caused discomfort.

    First Time at Ureshino Onsen

    We stayed here for a girls' trip with four people. The room had a retro feel, featuring two Japanese-style rooms, a Western-style room (with two beds), a dressing room, an onsen bath in the room, and a spacious washbasin area. It was very large and allowed us to spend our time elegantly. The onsen water quality was smooth and felt like soaking in beauty serum; all four of us agreed we wanted to bathe in it every day. For meals, we enjoyed Saga beef shabu-shabu with onsen tofu for the first time. It was light yet plentiful, and above all, the tofu was delicious. Since we used points during the reservation process, we were able to stay at an affordable price. Everyone was delighted and decided that next time we'll book again through IKYU.com!

    Do not consider it a luxury Ryokan in Japan.

    I have experienced luxury Ryokans across various regions of Japan, but this Ryokan does not provide any sense of Japanese hospitality and feels more like they don't want guests to come rather than welcoming them.

    That's unfortunate.

    We visited Kyushu for a family trip this time. We chose this accommodation after seeing it in magazines and deciding to splurge, but the result was very disappointing. The disappointing points were that despite the efforts of the front desk, the room showed noticeable wear and tear, the facility was outdated, there were no unique Ryokan features like attendants or traditional Japanese breakfast, and even small touches like tea sweets were missing. The Onsen facility differed from the photos, lacked charm, and we were surprised to be told to bring towels from our room with no extras provided. The breakfast buffet felt similar to an all-you-can-drink chain restaurant with no distinctive dishes—it resembled a Business Hotel experience. If it had been a budget accommodation, we could have understood; however, considering how much we paid for our stay, it was truly disappointing. We had high expectations...

    Is the hot spring at Suimeiso a natural free-flowing onsen?

    The onsen at Suimeiso, advertised as a natural hot spring with free-flowing water, was disappointing. The water was not running, and when I asked the staff present, they said, "We only run the water when filling the bath." This does not seem to align with the concept of free-flowing hot springs. I felt deceived and was very disappointed. I have never seen an onsen claiming to be free-flowing where no water is running at all. The room's air conditioning was also unstable, alternating between too cold and too hot. While it may be due to outdated facilities, this accommodation is not worth over 100,000 yen per night. Having stayed at many onsens before, this was by far the worst experience I've had. I will never stay here again.

    Used for a child's birthday trip

    The Room was, of course, outdated, and the view was indescribable... However, the Room was spacious and the indoor bath was large, allowing for a relaxing experience. It had a Showa-era atmosphere. Dinner and drinks were extremely delicious and excellent. However, breakfast was... indescribable. The venue reminded me of a school trip... It felt like breakfast that just needed to fill your stomach. However, other Facilities like the library were stylish! I would have been happy if there were welcome drinks or some snacks available.

    The bath in the large public bath was cold.

    I stayed during the cold wave in February. Perhaps because it was a weekday, there was no heating in the building where our room was located, and the air conditioner in the room stopped quickly due to defrosting. It was cold even with a down comforter. The room had an open-air bath, but we couldn't bathe after 12 o'clock and couldn't warm up. The water in the large public bath was also lukewarm and it was cold. When several people used the shower, the water pressure weakened. I think it's difficult to maintain since the Ryokan building is huge, but I'm concerned about mold on the ceiling of the large public bath. The staff's response was very good. I hope they continue to do their best as a long-established Ryokan of Ureshino Onsen (Ureshino).

    Lack of explanation by staff

    I used the property for my mother's 88th birthday celebration. I informed them in advance over the phone that it was a celebration, and the ryokan kindly suggested lending a special vest for her 88th birthday, which made me very happy. However, during dinner, a young part-time worker only explained the dishes as they were brought out one after another. When I requested a slower pace of serving, I was informed at that moment that there was a 90-minute limit. The promised special vest never appeared, and with many dishes left unfinished, we were asked to leave twice due to time constraints. If we had been informed about the 90-minute dinner limit at check-in, we could have adjusted our dining pace accordingly. However, there were no congratulatory words from any staff members; it felt like an assembly line service which made me very angry. My mother's joyous celebration was ruined just because of this experience; I couldn't hold back my tears. Perhaps it's time to reconsider what Japanese hospitality truly means? Although I won't be staying here again, I noticed someone from Korea entered the large public bath with their bath towel on.

    Holiday support

    I used it during a three-day weekend, but it was disappointing that the price was set at more than double the regular rate. I wish the pricing had been more reasonable. The open-air bath's atmosphere is ruined by obstructive privacy screens.

    Kanreki Celebration

    Thank you very much for your hospitality. We visited with our family of four to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. Actually, we had a great experience when we visited for my sister's 60th birthday celebration, so we decided to come again this time. This time, we requested a room in the old building called Onsenkyo... The room had a retro feel as we entered through an atmospheric door from the hallway... It was exactly like a Showa-era Ryokan, with an additional room attached. The bath in the room was also Onsen... When I opened it, it was a spacious wooden bath. Indeed, everything was old-fashioned but not unpleasant; it felt comfortable like visiting my grandparents' house. However, there was mold on the tiles in the bathroom that seemed like it could be cleaned off easily, which was unfortunate. The large public bath wasn't available as usual due to river construction and hot water supply regulations, but since they informed us beforehand and we were aware of it when visiting, there were no issues. Above all else, the meal that I had been looking forward to exceeded expectations and left us very satisfied. They prepared a cake for the 60th birthday celebration as well; however, since we couldn't finish it... they kindly cut and prepared plates for us to enjoy later at our leisure in our room. They also provided a red vest traditionally worn at such celebrations; although he initially resisted wearing it himself at first—he managed—and took memorable photos fitting his milestone age of sixty years old! Although different from what services offered during my sister’s visit—it became wonderful memories shared among family members—thank you once again!

    The tea subscription...

    The tea subscription service was much appreciated, and I enjoyed twice as much tea as usual. The space where you can freely read books was also enjoyable as a part of the travel experience, offering a break from everyday life. It was a bit disappointing that the bath was under construction. I would like to revisit after the bath construction is completed. The meals were excellent, with each dish of the kaiseki cuisine carefully prepared and very delicious. Perhaps because I was so satisfied with the dinner and my expectations were raised, I found the morning buffet disappointing. Since it leaves the last impression before checkout, I think it would be better if the variety and content were more fulfilling. The Room, including the private bath and chairs, was satisfying.

    It was disappointing.

    I was disappointed for a room in the 50,000 yen range. There were traces of rain leaks on the fusuma. The Onsen private bath had a bathtub similar to a unit bath. The view from the window was also disappointing as it was hidden by trees. There was a used towel on the floor in the large public bath the day before, and it was still there the next morning. The shop staff's response was cold and lacked a smile. I found the dinner delicious. I thought the lobby area was clean. However, with the room and service like this, it ruins everything. If you don't evaluate each room and set the price accordingly, I think it will increase the number of people who never want to come back.

    A wonderful stay at a superb Ryokan

    We visited during a three-day weekend with my sister, and the newly renovated interior was clean, stylish, and sophisticated. The shops and facilities within the Ryokan were meticulously designed, creating a delightful space to explore. At the Onsen, we enjoyed a leisurely time as if we had it all to ourselves, and both the open-air and indoor baths were truly relaxing. After the bath, we savored a welcome drink of tea provided by the tea shop, indulging in a luxurious moment. For dinner, we relished Saga beef and Wakakusu pork shabu-shabu, yudofu, and other specialties of Saga Prefecture. Each dish was served on carefully selected plates, making them visually appealing and incredibly delicious. Additionally, there was a menu offering a wide variety of teas for an extra charge, and we were impressed by the fragrant allure of the teas. After dinner, we headed to the BAR within the Ryokan. They offered tea cocktails and non-alcoholic cocktails, and the atmosphere was superb. Initially, we planned to have just one drink, but the bartender suggested cocktails tailored to our preferences. We enjoyed conversations about brewing delicious tea and souvenir recommendations, and before we knew it, we were there until closing time. What impressed us the most was the high level of hospitality from the staff. Everywhere we went, they prioritized the guests, with attentive and thoughtful service, leaving us constantly amazed throughout our stay. The quality of the staff is a significant charm of this Ryokan, and we hope it remains unchanged. Although we stayed for only one night this time, we wish to stay longer next time. It was a long-awaited trip to Kyushu from afar, and this wonderful Ryokan is a place we definitely want to visit again.

    A bit disappointing!!!

    Stayed in the tower building. As an IKYU Diamond member, I was able to check in an hour early, but I arrived before 3 PM and was told, "Please wait as we are preparing your room!" I ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes. The sliding door in the room I was shown made a loud noise, and upon inspection, it was found that the air conditioner was broken, causing vibrations that made the noise. Additionally, a heat pack from the previous guest was stuck to the sofa, which was unpleasant. They moved me to a room with the same layout. However, there were few power outlets, and their locations were inconvenient, so I had to carry the kettle back and forth in the room. The Ryokan is spacious, with a shop and a Pierre Hermé café, which is nice, but the large public bath is quite far from the room, and the dining area is like a maze. I was even asked by an elderly person where the dining area was. I finally understood the layout by the time I was leaving. The bath was nice with a sauna, but the open-air bath was under construction and unavailable, which I was informed of via email a few days before my stay. I usually enjoy taking multiple baths when visiting an Onsen, but considering the distance to the large public bath, I was glad the room had its own bath. The meal was served in a private room, allowing for a leisurely dining experience, but the taste was just okay. The menu included fish wrapped in Japanese paper, but the paper wasn't used, making it seem like food wasn't a priority. Breakfast was a Japanese-style meal with Onsen yudofu. As an IKYU Diamond member, I received a 1,000 yen coupon to use within the facility, and when I tried to purchase tea at the shop, I was initially told, "This is a tea shop, so you can't use the coupon here!" but they made an exception this time. Living in Fukuoka, Ureshino Onsen is too close to feel like a place to stay, but I wanted to relax in an Onsen, so I chose Wataya Besso this time, but I am a bit disappointed.

    The exterior and interior are...

    The front desk and its surroundings were wonderful, but... upon entering, the Room and the large public bath were not thoroughly cleaned, with hair and dust everywhere. The Room was old and not cleaned. Sitting on the cushion made me itchy... The air conditioner and everything else were old and dirty. I couldn't sleep. It's disappointing, to say the least...

    We stayed with four generations of our family. The lobby floor had shops and a bookstore, and we had a very pleasant and enjoyable time. However, the hallway from the tower building to the shops and onsen was barely heated, and it was cold enough to feel chilly without a coat. Additionally, the onsen was located in the basement and only accessible by stairs, so despite our 80-year-old grandmother looking forward to it, she had to give up due to the difficulty of moving. In the end, we had to settle for the bath in the room, which was disappointing. The carpet in the hallway was faded and gave an old impression. The room was kept tidy, but there were parts of the floor that seemed about to give way, which made us feel uneasy. We stayed in the tower building because the renovated rooms were fully booked, but the washbasin and toilet remained old, giving the impression that only the bath had been renovated. Also, the hairdryer provided in the room was an old-fashioned type, with noticeable dust and mold, making us reluctant to use it. Dust had accumulated on the room lights as well, making us feel that the cleaning was not thorough. At dinner, the female staff member who attended to us was friendly, but we were told they were "busy," which made it hard to relax. However, the food itself was delicious. On the other hand, breakfast was served in a banquet hall, but there was no live kitchen and the variety was limited, which was disappointing given our expectations for a high-end property.

    The Onsen was excellent!

    The onsen was absolutely the best. I became a fan of Ureshino Onsen after using the day-use onsen a few years ago, and I always wanted to stay overnight. My wish came true, and I was able to stay during the New Year. The large public bath was extremely crowded in the evening, perhaps because I chose the wrong time, and there wasn't even space to wash. The outdoor bath was unfortunately surrounded by construction barriers, possibly due to renovation work. However, since I had reserved a room with a private bath, I was able to return to my room, enjoy the bath again, and take a morning bath, fully enjoying the onsen. I was looking forward to enjoying my favorite Saga beef for dinner, but the pot for shabu-shabu didn't heat up properly, so I had to hurriedly throw the meat in before the fuel ran out and wait for it to cook. The taste was halved. It was disappointing. Overall, I was able to relax slowly, fully enjoy the onsen, and also enjoy the complimentary sake tasting and Ureshino tea takeaway, so I am very satisfied. Thank you very much.

    Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    We used the facility with three generations: children, grandchildren, and parents. All the staff took great care of our grandchildren. They seemed to have had a very pleasant time. Thanks to this, we were able to fully enjoy the Onsen and delicious food. We also had our first bar experience with our grandchildren. Thank you for taking care of us. We appreciate it.

    I stayed at Unzen with my daughter, her husband, and my grandchild at the end of the year. The outdated facilities and insufficient cleaning, especially the toilets inside the property (particularly near the breakfast buffet area) and around the onsen town, were noticeable. The room size was good, so it was a disappointing point. It would be nice if the renovation progresses further.

    I visited with my girlfriend for a trip for two. The Onsen was, of course, wonderful, and there were many other enjoyable features within the facility, such as a Pierre Hermé café and areas where you can relax and read books, which made us very satisfied. The meal was shabu-shabu and it was delicious, but the portion was too large, so it might be better if it were a bit smaller. It felt wasteful with the meat. The room and other areas were a bit old, but they were clean, so it didn't bother us. However, I was surprised that most of the shared space restrooms were Japanese-style. Even though the shared spaces are kept so clean...! Overall, there was no major crowding, and we were able to relax and were very satisfied. Next time, I would like to visit with my parents.

    It was a nice hot bath.

    Since I made the reservation the day before, it was a stay without meals. I was satisfied with the bathroom in the room and the open-air bath. The large public bath was nice, but going up and down the stairs was tough. Next time, I would like to stay with meals included.
