    The guest room is exactly as shown in the photos.

    Used for a one-night, two-day short trip. The Hotel looks a bit dated, but once the nighttime illumination started, it was as beautiful as in the photos. When I stopped by before check-in to leave my luggage, the front desk staff’s response felt surprisingly cold for a Hotel. However, I only interacted with staff then and at check-in, and this didn’t seem like the kind of Hotel where you come expecting that sort of service, so I decided not to dwell on it. The Room was exactly as pictured—spacious and with a terrace—so I was very satisfied. I did notice some hair in the washroom, but other than that I have no complaints.

    Our hospitality…

    The front desk staff were unfriendly, which made the experience unpleasant. The meals were highly praised, but the breakfast was vegan-style and just average. Even when my bag fell off my suitcase while I was moving and my hands were full, they didn’t lift a finger despite being right in front of me—only calling out, “Are you okay?” The Facility and environment are good, but the staff’s service was very disappointing.

    A Highly Satisfying Summer Family Vacation

    We stayed as a family of four—my spouse, our elementary-school daughter, and our kindergarten-age son—and it was a stay that left everyone very satisfied. As it was our first time staying in Karuizawa and we didn’t know the area well, we chose this Hotel as a place where we could enjoy the “Karuizawa atmosphere” while using it as a base for sightseeing. The surroundings were lovely, access to central Karuizawa was convenient, and I think it’s an excellent location for exploring. Our Room was kindly upgraded, and the kids were thrilled with the spacious Room. While the exterior has a charming traditional feel, the Room itself had been beautifully renovated into a clean, modern space. We were able to relax in great comfort. What we especially appreciated as a family with children was that you can take off your shoes indoors. It meant we didn’t worry even if the kids relaxed on the floor—something we truly value when traveling as a family. We used the private bath. With 45 minutes per session, it felt a bit rushed when splitting up by gender within our family, but considering the number of Rooms and baths available, I think it’s reasonable from an operational standpoint. For dinner we went to the on-site “Wine Sakaba.” Since we had reserved seats in advance, we were seated smoothly. There were plenty of kid-friendly options, and adults can enjoy reasonably priced Nagano wines such as Manns Wine. We took our time savoring delicious food and wine—my wife was very happy too. Breakfast was a buffet at the restaurant. It’s not an overwhelmingly large selection, but everything you’d want for breakfast is properly covered, and whatever you choose is satisfying. I think it’s a breakfast both adults and children will enjoy. It’s not like a large-scale Hotel; rather, it feels cozy and thoughtfully cared for down to small details. At checkout my child said, “I don’t want to go home,” which probably sums up this stay best. Our first trip to Karuizawa became a wonderful memory. When we visit again, we would definitely like to stay here again. Thank you very much.

    The atmosphere was nice, but…

    This was my second stay, and I was glad the Room was the same as before. The Hotel’s design and atmosphere were unchanged, which was nice. The private bath was still far too hot, so I couldn’t use it. However, the meals felt very different from before. I remembered how delicious the vegetables were and wanted to stay again, but it turned out to be a mistake. Dinner The restaurant itself was very stylish and had a great atmosphere, but more than half of the dishes required an additional charge. I had to think about it every time. It was disappointing for what should have been a special trip. If additional charges are unavoidable for profitability, I would rather they raise the Accommodation Fee slightly and eliminate extra charges altogether. Also, if you don’t pay extra, you get almost nothing but raw vegetables. The burdock chips on the burdock chocolate cake were extremely soggy. The texture was unpleasant… I even left most of the chocolate… We also used an anniversary plan. Even though it was supposed to be a sugar-free spinach cake, it tasted very sweet. Where did that sweetness come from—sweeteners? It was overly sweet and not tasty. Breakfast It felt like there were only raw vegetables here as well. Additional charges appeared again. There weren’t any carefully prepared dishes. Even the vegetable dishes that weren’t raw didn’t taste good. The only good thing was the freshly baked milk bread—it was delicious. However, it didn’t arrive until we were basically finished eating and about to leave! We ended up sharing one bread between two people. That surprised me again—so stingy!

    Plan with Breakfast and Dinner Included

    The Facility felt a bit old, but it was fairly clean and well kept. I made a Reservation for a dinner-included Plan. The food was tasty, but the portions were very small. On the first night, we were still hungry after dinner, so we all bought cup noodles at the shop and ate them. Since both nights included dinner, on the second day we bought various items outside and ate those instead. Quality matters, but I hope you will also consider increasing the portion sizes a little.

    The vegetables are simply delicious.

    Used by a family of three. Both breakfast and the full-course dinner focused mainly on vegetables, so we honestly weren’t sure what to expect, but everything was delicious and never got boring. It was also a good walking distance to the Karuizawa rotary, perfect for a morning stroll. The only tough part was carrying some heavy luggage. Next time, we’ll reserve a first-floor room.

    It was very comfortable.

    The front desk staff were friendly, and the Room was very clean, making for a comfortable stay. For some reason, even when the Room air conditioner was set to 28°C, it felt very cold and was difficult to adjust. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was delicious.

    This was my first time staying for one night with breakfast only. I had heard the vegetables were delicious, but they were average.\n\nIt was nice to have a private bath, but the fan in the changing room didn’t work, so it was hot.\n\nOverall, I’m glad I could stay at a good value.

    We visited for lunch and breakfast. The meals were packed with fresh vegetables, and we were 100% satisfied. The service from the staff, including at the Hotel, was also a perfect 100 out of 100.

    Second Stay

    I had stayed here with a friend before and remembered it fondly, so this time I stayed with my husband. When making the Reservation, I requested a specific Room type, and they accommodated my request exactly, which helped us create wonderful memories. Even my husband, who doesn’t like vegetables, loved the restaurant where the vegetables are truly delicious. I was genuinely impressed by how good they were. The key to the private bath was broken, but they promptly switched us to another bath. It’s a favorite Hotel with excellent value for money, and we definitely want to stay again.

    Enjoy Hatake Karuizawa

    We visited Karuizawa for the first time to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The Room door felt a bit simple, but the meals were very delicious and we really enjoyed our stay. There was also a shuttle bus and private baths, and it felt like a reasonably priced, pension-style Hotel, which was great. Personally, the shiitake carpaccio, meat, and vegetables were especially delicious.

    This Accommodation lacks adequate safety measures, as gas may accumulate in the Room.

    To be honest, this stay was extremely disappointing. We stayed for two nights, and on the second night a strong paint-like odor developed in the Room, to the point that it felt hard to breathe. We were staying in a cottage-type Room, and we were told the cause was a boiler malfunction leading to a gas leak, with gas that should have been vented instead filling the Room. We contacted the front desk at night and had staff check, but the only suggestions offered were “If you’re going out, please ventilate,” or “We can use an ozone deodorizer (though an ozone smell may remain).” No fundamental solution was presented. I strongly questioned why the most important option—changing Rooms—was not suggested from the start. All of our clothes left in the Room absorbed a severe gas smell, and I feel it could have been dangerous if we had continued sleeping there. After we requested it ourselves, we were eventually moved to another cottage. Even then, there was no assistance with moving luggage or guidance to the new Room; we were simply handed a key with “You can still use your original Room key until tomorrow.” As a result, we had to pack up and move everything ourselves, which made us feel a clear lack of hospitality. We also reported this at checkout, but it did not seem that they fully understood how serious it was. This left us concerned about their awareness of safety as well. In any case, having gas fill an indoor space is itself a major safety management issue. Unfortunately, it did not match what is shown in photos. The Facility overall felt dated, and the meals were neither particularly good nor bad (the homemade bread and vegetables were tasty). In addition, information about our pre-booked dinner course and birthday cake was not shared among staff members; we had to confirm things repeatedly ourselves. I recommend not expecting any service at all. The cost for this stay was approximately JPY 120,000 for two adults and one child for two nights (with breakfast included and one dinner included), but considering what happened and what was provided, it is completely unacceptable value. Overall, I cannot recommend this Accommodation.

    This was my first stay. The Room and other Facilities feel a bit dated, but I think everything is kept very clean. The selection and brands of amenities were good. I wouldn’t recommend the private bath to anyone sensitive to strong disinfectant smells. Dinner is a set course; you can choose the main dish and dessert, but most options require an additional fee. The à la carte dishes were tasty, but the price didn’t seem to match the portion size. Breakfast was average. It’s Western-style, but it was nice that rice and miso soup were also available. The restaurant staff provided good service at both breakfast and dinner.

    This time, I chose a plan with meals included. The vegetables were very delicious, and the overall balance of the dishes was excellent, so I was very satisfied. The Room was spacious and clean, and I was happy to find a magnifying mirror and a stool in the washroom. If possible, I would have liked to have a shoehorn.

    Excellent value-for-money Accommodation

    My spouse and I stayed here for the first night of our 2-night, 3-day trip. Since there was availability on the day, we were upgraded to a better Room free of charge. The Room was very clean, and we were extremely satisfied. We had dinner at the wine bar. Both the wine and the food were delicious.

    A classic Hotel

    It’s a very classical building, and the Room design and windows had a charming resort atmosphere, which we really enjoyed. As it was before Golden Week, there were few guests, so we were able to spend a quiet stay. The only disappointment was that the hair dryer in the private bath was not very powerful. We enjoyed the well-reviewed delicious breakfast at a relaxed pace while looking out at the garden, but it was disappointing that drinks were served in paper cups. Also, I would have appreciated having water available on each table in a pitcher.

    This Hotel offers attentive service.

    I visit Karuizawa once or twice a year, but this was my first stay at this Hotel. On the day of arrival, they confirmed details by email and phone, which gave me a very professional impression. I was welcomed by a large weeping cherry tree, and the female front desk staff member who assisted me at check-in was courteous and clear in her explanations. The Room was upgraded, there was complimentary coffee in the lobby, one free use of the private open-air bath, and excellent amenities—truly thoughtful service in every detail. I even regret not having stayed here sooner. Thank you very much for providing such a wonderful time.

    This was my first stay, and the service was excellent and the food was very delicious. The private bath was also wonderful. I would like to stay again.

    It does not appear to be a Resort Hotel of the quality level featured on IKYU.

    Unfortunately, this is not a luxury Resort Hotel. The front desk staff were not in uniform; a young woman wearing a long stadium jacket was using her smartphone during check-in. Even after I signed the form I was asked to confirm and sign and handed it back immediately, she continued using her phone and left me waiting until she finished. The Room was old and very small. The open-air bath had a strong chlorine smell from tap water, and the daytime view outside was not something you would want to see. It may suit young couples, but I cannot recommend it for middle-aged guests or older.

    Delicious Satisfaction

    This was my first time visiting a wine bar. It was helpful that I could enjoy the space without having wine. The food was delicious, and I plan to visit again. The breakfast was also very satisfying, especially the freshly baked bread—it was excellent!

    We stayed for one night and two days on our first trip with our 5-month-old baby. The staff prepared a plate to celebrate the half-birthday, and we were able to enjoy the open-air bath together with our child, making it a very meaningful experience. One concern was that although we were informed in advance that a diaper disposal bin would be provided, it was not available in the room. Despite initial concerns after reading some reviews about the meals, overall, we were very satisfied.

    Although we selected a room at the time of reservation, we were upgraded to a cottage. The price is indeed slightly higher, but since it was for two people, there was only one bedroom without any additional setup, making it smaller than the spacious Japanese-Western style room. For those particular about rooms, please take note.

    Wonderful Hotel

    This was my first time staying here. Complimentary Mikado Coffee is available in the lobby. The private bath is compact, and the open-air bath is very relaxing. Since I stayed for two nights, I enjoyed both the restaurant and bar in the evenings. Both offered delicious options and had a great atmosphere. I would love to stay here again!

    The exterior was very charming. The Room was a standard Room, but it didn’t feel as small as I expected. It was well-cleaned, and the interior had a sense of cleanliness. The Room also had a small terrace. Next time, I would like to choose a Plan with breakfast included if possible.

    Unfortunately.

    This time, I stayed with No Meals Included. Unfortunately, it was raining. Check-in was smooth, and I received the room key before heading to the room. During check-in, I was able to reserve a private open-air bath. However, there were leaks in the hallway on the way to the room... When I arrived at the room, there were hairs and trash on the floor that made it seem like it hadn't been cleaned properly. I went to the front desk and explained the situation; they lent me a lint roller with a smile. At night, I couldn't sleep at all due to footsteps, noises, and voices from upstairs. Although there were many disappointing aspects, the nighttime illumination was beautiful.
