It was excellent. Thank you very much.

Before the renovation, I stayed about three times in “Kumo” on the 4th floor. This time, I enjoyed a Multiple Night Stay in “Ten.” The Room was spacious and comfortable. I loved the Japanese-style atmosphere with Ryukyu tatami and shoji screens. The Onsen had a silky feel, and the temperature was just right. Both the Japanese cuisine and my first teppanyaki experience were excellent. I was truly able to relax and unwind. Thank you very much to all the staff. One thing I would like improved is the shower water pressure in the bathroom—it was a bit too weak. I have made a Reservation for a three-night stay next year as well. Thank you in advance for your continued hospitality.

I hope the Facility will improve.

The service from the international staff and the Facility environment are good. Disappointing points: I informed them at the time of Reservation that I am a Diamond member, but there were no Diamond member benefits on the day. - I would like pajamas or samue loungewear in the Room, not only yukata. - Although there was a coffee maker in the Room, there were no coffee cups, so I could not use it. - The cuisine seems to be very carefully prepared, but unfortunately the dashi and seasoning were too light for my taste.

    This was my second s...

This was my second stay, and it felt like both the cuisine and hospitality had been upgraded even further. This time I arrived on foot, and a staff member came out to greet me from around the bridge; on departure as well, they saw me off until I was out of sight, which made me very happy. The sparklers were available last time too, and they have become one of the highlights for me. There is a pool directly below the Room terrace; at first it was quite noisy and I worried it might continue, but it gradually settled down so I was relieved. If I had to mention one thing, the Room lighting was a bit dim, and I would appreciate something like a lighted makeup mirror or a small lamp for applying makeup. Overall, it was a wonderful stay—thank you very much. I would love to visit again.

    The bathroom was disappointing.

Thank you very much for your hospitality. All of the staff provided excellent service. Every dish was delicious, and I was especially impressed by how tender the octopus was. The Room was clean, and we were satisfied with the amenities. However, the shower was difficult to use and it took a long time to get hot water, so we had to ask a staff member for help. The bath water was a bit lukewarm. We wanted to add more hot water but couldn’t adjust it, which was disappointing, so we rated it 3 stars. The reading light was small and there weren’t enough for everyone, so we couldn’t read comfortably, which was also disappointing. Other than that, we had a comfortable stay. Thank you very much.

    First Hakone

We chose this Accommodation because of the positive Reviews. As expected, the Onsen was wonderful and the meals were delicious. The staff were courteous, and we had a very comfortable stay. When we asked for a TV, they brought one to our Room, and we were able to relax until check-out. Thank you very much. The only downsides were that the Room was quite dark with indirect lighting, so I couldn’t read the book I brought. Also, the bathroom area was a bit inconvenient to use.

    Room Amenities

I stayed for one night the other day. The meals were lightly seasoned, and although I’m close to 50, I really enjoyed them. The service was pleasant as well, and I was able to relax. However, there were no skincare amenities such as cleansing oil or lotion in the Room, and it felt odd that there were sheet masks instead. I wondered if they had simply been forgotten or if I just couldn’t find them, so I called the front desk to ask, and they told me they are not provided in the Room. At a Ryokan of this level, I assumed these would normally be available, so I only brought minimal cosmetics, and it was quite a shock. It’s my fault for not bringing everything properly, but since they are usually provided, it was disappointing— especially because the Onsen itself was excellent.

    Everything was excellent.

Thank you very much for taking such great care of us. I’m so happy we were finally able to stay at the Accommodation I had always wanted to visit. As soon as we got off the bus, the suspension bridge was right in front of us, and it instantly lifted our spirits. Your warm welcome—running out to greet us—made me want to run over too! Thank you so much. The Onsen was wonderful; my mother, who is usually quite reserved, went in again and again. She clearly loved it, and that made me very happy as well. The meals were excellent, and the selection in the refrigerator was also fantastic. Enjoying sparklers on the terrace was also lovely—it made us feel like kids again! There are too many wonderful things to list. We would love to stay with you again. Thank you in advance when we do.

    Return Visit

For the first time in four years, I stayed here again with my mother, just as we did last time. I was happy to be able to enjoy sparklers again at night. The bamboo grove and the fresh scent of nature, the wonderful hospitality, the excellent Onsen, and everything about the Room and meals were all very satisfying. We would like to visit again as a family.

    Global Hakone

I had a relaxing stay. I was surprised by how many international guests there were. Because the privacy was complete, I was able to enjoy a luxurious time in my Room. I was a little disappointed that an ingredient I don’t like was served at breakfast. If I have the opportunity, I will make a Reservation again.

    A wonderful, one-of-a-kind space

This Accommodation is simply outstanding in every way. Despite being located in Hakone, it offers an exceptionally quiet setting—perfect for resting both mind and body. Above all, the private open-air bath was wonderful. The scenery and birdsong were soothing and helped me unwind from everyday stress. The room itself was also surprisingly calming—I can’t imagine why it feels so relaxing. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and I slept as if I melted into it. The meals were flawless, with a wonderful variety of dishes. I wanted to try local sake, and they recommended one that paired well with the food—it was exceptional as well. I stayed here for my birthday, and I would love to return again next year. Thank you very much.

    After crossing Kozai...

After crossing Kozaikyo Bridge with its golden bamboo sign, the staff were already there to welcome us. While they carried our luggage to the Room, we completed check-in and enjoyed some tea, then made our way to the Room ourselves. Our second-floor Room had a terrace with a shower area and a semi-open-air bath. The toilet, vanity area, and closet were combined into one space, so when bathing we prepared in the Room and then moved to the terrace so we could change right away. Because the layout is not very convenient, it can feel rushed in winter. Still, it was fun to experience such a modern and innovative setting. At mealtimes, many international guests were staying there. Both dinner and breakfast were enjoyable with beautiful tableware; the food was delicious, and in particular their rice—clearly a specialty—was excellent. The staff were all young and seemed able to assist in multiple languages. Thank you very much to everyone for your hospitality.

For the first time in 3 years, a family of 5 split into 2 Rooms...

After three years, the staff has become younger, and foreign staff members have joined. There were also Caucasian couples among the guests, a scene not seen three years ago. Despite many accommodations experiencing a decline in service quality, the exceptional service level of the staff at Kinnotake Tonosawa remains unchanged and impressive. The Nepalese female staff member who first assisted us provided more attentive service than even Japanese standards. The female staff during dinner and the Okinawan female staff during breakfast were both very friendly. We even took photos together at the end of our stay. Truly, a hotel is defined by its people. One family member has a shellfish allergy, which we mentioned during reservation and again at check-in; however, abalone was still served to her—this was our only disappointment. That said, they quickly replaced it with an alternative dish afterward, which was commendable. The food was delicious overall. We loved having an open-air bath in our room but found it slightly chilly for November weather. As a family of five, my spouse and I stayed in a triple room with our daughter while my son and his wife stayed in another room. Although it was labeled as a triple room, there were only two beds available; thus, our daughter used the sofa bed instead. Personally, I found the bed too low and firm for my liking—resulting in back pain by morning. The peculiar layout of what seemed like an island kitchen remained unchanged from before but still felt unusual to us. However, we appreciated that drinks in the refrigerator—including Maruki wine from Katsunuma—were complimentary as always. My son’s adjacent room had an unfamiliar layout: despite being relatively small inside overall space-wise compared to ours—it featured horizontally elongated flooring around its open-air bath area—which felt somewhat puzzling design-wise ("?"). Although prices have significantly increased over time—with such excellent staffing levels combined alongside high-quality cuisine plus private outdoor baths—it feels justified under current circumstances reflecting value-for-money expectations accordingly!

    The service quality has declined.

I have stayed more than five times, but I am disappointed as the service level has declined. Specifically, hotel staff used to carry my luggage from the car to the hotel and accompany me to my room. However, this time, just before taking the elevator to head to the room (previously staff would come along and carry my luggage all the way), they suddenly handed over my luggage without any explanation. At least a prior notice like "The rules have changed; guests are now required to carry their own luggage, and staff will no longer accompany you to your room" would have been understandable. But being handed my luggage so abruptly left me confused. Additionally, it seems that only trainees were working (they mentioned there were six trainees). Have many of the previous staff members left? While the facility itself is excellent, it is very disappointing that the service level has dropped significantly.

    Given the high expectations...

I arrived by car, but the parking lot was gravel, giving an unmaintained impression that felt off at first. The staff who greeted us wore Halloween headbands, which unfortunately came across as cheap. It was also disappointing to see a missing tree at the entrance with only its support post remaining. Overall, it didn’t feel worth the price. The lounge service offered limited complimentary options compared to other experiences, which was disappointing. The Room door was heavy and had a keyhole resembling that of a storage room, which felt odd. The sliding toilet door bounced back when closed and remained half-open—this also seemed cheap. As for the view from the window, the water feature below appeared murky and dirty, and the canopy on lower floors wasn’t clean either—disappointing overall. While I understand fallen leaves can be challenging due to location, addressing this would improve impressions. We stayed as three guests but found only two beds in our Room; one person had to sleep on a futon laid out on the sofa. Other Ryokans provided three beds in similar situations—it would have been helpful if this were clarified beforehand. The lack of communal baths was unexpected since I’ve stayed at many Ryokans in Hakone where they are standard—it felt like something essential was missing here. Unfortunately, even our private open-air bath lacked any standout features. The meals were delicious; however, despite informing them in advance about one guest’s dislike for raw fish, they simply boiled sashimi served to others instead of offering grilled or simmered fish as alternatives—something other Ryokans have done better at similar or lower prices. Many staff members were young individuals from overseas—a surprising observation without negative intent—but while their smiles were pleasant and promising for their future careers (especially during breakfast service), it seemed like more experience might be needed given this price range. When asking about communal baths’ absence earlier during check-in with Japanese staff members: their casual response ("Oh! We don’t have any!") felt inappropriate compared against expected polite phrasing such as "We sincerely apologize; unfortunately our Ryokan does not offer communal baths." In summary: my impression is that it doesn’t justify its pricing level currently—I hope these points help improve future experiences!

    Excellent staff

All the staff were very considerate, and I was deeply impressed. The person in charge during breakfast was a foreigner, but they spoke even difficult polite Japanese, which I found amazing. The Room and bath were very relaxing; however, the mirror is stylish but a bit small and high, making it seem inconvenient for women to do makeup at the sink without a chair. Also, brighter lighting around the sink area would be helpful for women. That's what my partner mentioned.

    Insect Season

We were extremely satisfied with the accommodation. There is nothing to complain about. In particular, the young man named Mr. I (a recent graduate!) who served us dinner was incredibly attentive, leaving both my husband and me deeply impressed. The bath was wonderful, but it was unfortunately mosquito season... It was quite a challenge to keep them away (laughs). Having mosquito coils available would have been appreciated. We hope to visit again during a season without mosquitoes.

    I recently visited K...

I recently visited Kinnotake Tonosawa, a place I had been curious about for some time. Although we arrived earlier than planned due to the approaching typhoon, we were warmly welcomed—thank you for that. I was very satisfied with the hospitality and the Facility. The private sauna & pool, in particular, were excellent and reasonably priced. One hour felt too short, so it would be great if options like 90 or 120 minutes were available. Next time, I plan to choose teppanyaki for dinner. I’ll definitely visit again—looking forward to it!

    A relaxing Accommodation.

This was my first stay. The atmosphere was very calm, and I was able to relax in the Room as well. Every dish was delicious, and it had been a while since I truly enjoyed such a satisfying meal. The staff who served our meals and guided us to the Room were all very friendly and welcoming with warm smiles. I would definitely love to visit again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    Unfortunately

    I'm curious about the meals.

The only concern regarding the meal was the chopsticks at dinner. They were worn out, and it felt uncomfortable to use them for dining. The tableware lacked a sense of style and did not enhance appetite. There were no particularly impressive dishes, which was disappointing as everything felt ordinary. I had plum wine diluted with water, but the water ratio was too high, making it too weak (the same applied to soda dilution). The timing of serving dishes also stood out; although we had elderly guests who ate slowly, dishes were brought one after another before we finished eating, affecting both the freshness and quality of the food. This also left little time to enjoy conversations leisurely. Aside from the meals, everything else was excellent. The facilities, room, and customer service were outstanding.

It didn’t feel worth the price.

This was my first stay. The check-in was courteous, but I would have appreciated being able to get to the Room a little sooner. The Room was clean and the amenities were sufficient. However, the Aomori hiba open-air bath in the guest room showed noticeable wear, and I was concerned about the floor of the tub feeling uneven and flexing. Also, there is greenery on both sides of the balcony, but the plants on the right side were completely dead, and there were spider webs between our balcony and the floor below, which made for a disappointing view. I would like to see better maintenance overall. The staff were generally polite and left a good impression. The most disappointing issue was the Wi-Fi in the Room. Even after trying multiple times with three different smartphones, the signal was weak and kept cutting out. When I called reception to explain, I was told that they replaced a router in (I believe) an adjacent Room and that it worked when tested on a staff member’s phone. However, when I tried again in my Room, there was no improvement at all. With poor mobile reception as well as Wi-Fi problems—and how it was handled—I could not relax during my stay. For such an expensive rate, this Facility is unacceptable. It felt overpriced even at half price. Next time I will choose another Ryokan instead.

    Second Visit

I loved my previous stay so much that this was my second visit. As expected, it was wonderful. The best part is the food. Not only the main dishes, but even each small vegetable garnish is truly delicious. The seasoning is gentle, and the portions are not too large—just right. I’m happy to be able to enjoy such carefully prepared meals, and I’m glad I chose this Accommodation again. The Room has no wasted space and a perfectly sized layout. The interior is simple but not too plain, with soft, calming colors. The Onsen is set to a slightly lower temperature, and you can tell it’s adjusted for a midsummer stay. Because it’s not too hot, you can soak slowly and as many times as you like. The service was polite, and it seemed they had properly kept records from my previous visit as well. I also appreciated that drinks in the lobby are free. If I had to mention anything: It would be helpful if there were a free Shuttle Service bus. Also, while the amenities are eco-friendly, they didn’t lather well and were a bit difficult to use. Other than that, this Accommodation is perfect for me. If I go to Hakone again, I’d like to stay here.

    We used this Ryokan ...

We used this Ryokan for a marriage proposal. We requested towel art in the Room in advance, and they kindly accommodated our request. Also, while we were traveling together, one of us temporarily felt unwell during the meal; although it caused some inconvenience, all the staff responded flexibly and thoughtfully. In the end, it became a truly memorable trip for both of us. This is an excellent Ryokan not only for its service, but also for its smart handling of unexpected issues and special touches. Thank you very much.

Free-flowing natural hot spring water and an open-air bath.

This was my first stay here. The open-air Onsen on the terrace is fed directly from the source, offering a wonderful balance of soothing moisture and refreshing clarity. After bathing, I truly felt my metabolism improve. The meals were lightly seasoned and refined. With minimal contact with others, I was able to relax and unwind. The surroundings were quiet, with forest views all around. I was also comforted by the gentle service from the dining staff. Thanks to the kind and attentive hospitality, I enjoyed a peaceful stay from arrival through checkout. Thank you very much for your care.

    It was excellent.

The hospitality, hot spring water, and Room were all wonderful—this was a fantastic Accommodation! I’d love to come again. Since the only bath is the private open-air bath in the Room, those who prefer a large public bath may find it a bit lacking. I was completely satisfied. Thank you.

    Noise and Dining

Because the Room faced the national highway, the noise from motorcycle groups in the early morning was extremely disruptive. Soundproofing measures such as double-glazed windows are needed. Despite staying on the 4th-floor Club Floor (Ten), meals were served together with guests from other floors. Even though it was described as semi-private seating, it felt like a family restaurant, with seats back-to-back with neighboring tables. On top of that, each time a waiter brought a dish, they called my name loudly enough for nearby guests to hear, which was very uncomfortable. Also, we were moved to the lounge for the final coffee and dessert; it was crowded like a cafeteria and cramped, which I found very unpleasant. For a Club Floor at least, I think there should be options such as delivering meals to the Room or separating dining areas within the same floor. The service did not feel worth the price, which was disappointing.

    Parking

The parking lot is terrible. It was an outdoor parking area, and when I checked the next morning, the entire car was covered with small white spots and leaves. The white spots would not come off with a regular car wash, so I took it to a professional car wash shop and it cost 13,000 yen to have them removed. According to the staff there, they thought it was tree sap. It may depend on the season, but I think you should address this as soon as possible. If you are driving here during this time of year, please be careful.

For guests seeking a quiet stay

[Pros] - The service itself is good, though the staff seem a bit hesitant with international guests. - If you like Hakone’s hot spring water quality, this Accommodation is definitely a great choice. [Cons] - The open-air bath tub in the guest room is small. - Even when Chinese guests were speaking loudly on a video call in the dining area, the staff did not intervene. - A white foreign guest was filming something like YouTube in the elevator and was in the way, but again the staff did not intervene.
