    Celebrating a 90th Birthday

We stayed here to celebrate my father’s 90th birthday. Thank you for celebrating with us, and for accommodating us even before check-in. The view from the Room was filled with beautiful fresh greenery, and my father was delighted. We were also able to relax in the private Onsen. Every meal was outstanding and satisfied both our eyes and our taste buds. The staff’s service was attentive, and we had a very pleasant stay. It was perfect—10/10.

    It was my first visi...

It was my first visit in a while. Time passed slowly and comfortably. Thank you very much. The meals were full of seasonal flavors, and I could feel the chef’s attention to detail in everything—very satisfying. One thing I noticed was that, perhaps because the partitions in the dining area are open at the top, conversations from neighboring tables carried clearly, which surprised me. I understand it goes both ways, but since this Accommodation is meant for adults to enjoy a calm atmosphere, I would have liked to dine more quietly. I will visit again in another season to enjoy some “adult time.”

    Culinary Ryokan

I was looking for an Accommodation by searching with the keyword “in-room open-air bath” because I came for the Onsen. Big public baths often look great in photos, but when you actually go, you sometimes wonder… On the other hand, the bath in the Room can be surprisingly good—you really don’t know until you arrive. Here, not only was the bath (I used it seven times) wonderful, but everything was flawless. Above all, the meals were so delicious they made me forget I came for the Onsen—like I’d come just to eat dinner. If you want to drink slowly, there may be a bit too much food and too many dishes. Especially if you have beer, you might not be able to finish everything. I wanted to drink plenty as well, but since I’m just recovering from being sick, I held back—a little disappointing.

I was able to see fireflies again this year.

Last year, I was deeply moved to see fireflies for the first time in over half a century, and I was able to see them again this year. This Accommodation is a very special place for us. We would love to stay with you again next year as well. Thank you in advance. Also, we would appreciate it if the TV in the Room on the third floor could always access online services such as YouTube.

    Mixed reviews

While my wife was at the spa in the evening, I was relaxing in the Room’s Onsen when someone started pounding on the door. When I asked what they needed, two women told me to open up quickly and called out a different guest’s name, so I told them they had the wrong Room. I heard them say, “Oops, wrong one,” but it still left me feeling uncomfortable. At the very least, they should have informed the front desk about their mistake. The private dining Room for dinner and breakfast has a door, but it is left open. It is along the passageway to the public bath, so people walk by. There is no consideration for privacy while eating. Because part of the ceiling is open, all of the pointless chatter from next door ruined everything. Dinner? Neither good nor bad—nothing memorable. My wife seemed to enjoy the spa.

    Firefly Night

This was my third stay. Once again, I thoroughly enjoyed the delicious, carefully prepared meals. During this stay, I was also delighted to see fireflies dancing over the garden waterside at night, making for a wonderful time. Thank you very much.

Are the alcoholic drinks with meals a bit expensive?

The Accommodation and Room were clean and very nice.\nI felt the open-air bath water temperature was slightly low, but in May it may be just right.\nI was surprised to see a TV suspended from the ceiling for watching while lying on the bed.\nAll of the food was delicious. The portions felt a little small, but that might actually be just right.\nHowever, the Wagyu sirloin steak had a lot of marbling and may be too fatty for older guests.\nMy wife paid an additional fee to switch to filet, which seems like the right choice.\nI ordered the Chef’s Selection Premium Japanese sake tasting set (3,900 yen) at dinner,\nbut there was only about one small cup each, and I couldn’t help blurting out, “That’s not much!”\nEach sake was tasty, but the value for money is questionable.

A guest who returns for the Onsen experience

Tucked away in a quiet part of Kyoto and easy to reach from where I live, so I keep coming back. With only a few guest rooms, it feels calm and welcoming. Time passes slowly here, and I can truly refresh. I think this Ryokan is well suited for adults.

    Quiet Accommodation

With its high ratings on IKYU, we were intrigued and decided to visit. We used the Shuttle Service to Kameoka Station, and the staff were very courteous. Since we arrived early, they kindly spoke to us and let us wait in the car. Upon arriving at the Accommodation, we were promptly guided to the lobby lounge and served matcha and traditional Japanese sweets. After a short wait, we were shown to our Room. It had a lovely modern Japanese design, with both a semi-open-air bath and an indoor bath. The public bath was a comfortable size. There was also a selection of shampoo and conditioner to choose from, which made washing our hair enjoyable. Dinner was served in a private room, but we could clearly hear conversations from next door—so our voices likely carried as well. The cuisine felt tailored to women’s tastes, beautifully presented. The dashi broth was delicious, though nothing particularly novel. Breakfast was also tasty with plenty of vegetables. Thank you very much for taking care of us during our stay.

The food was excellent, but I was disappointed.

I stayed in a Suite Room. First, about the Room: overall it felt neither particularly good nor bad. In the details, the tissues were a bit rough, and I felt that using higher-quality ones would make it more comfortable. The TV was small. I was really looking forward to the private open-air bath in the guest room, but when I tried to get in, there was a stink bug floating in it. At that point I no longer felt like using it, and ended up using only the indoor bath. This was very disappointing and really dampened my mood. Also, at night a stink bug got into the Room as well, and I ended up dealing with it for about an hour. My companion is not good with insects, so I handled it alone without letting them notice, but when removing it there was an odor, and deodorizing afterward took quite some time. In the end I was exhausted both physically and mentally, and it wasn’t a situation where I could relax and rest. Since this is an Accommodation near the mountains, I expected some level of this—but when it actually happens, it’s hard to choose for a special occasion. Regarding insect control as well, I felt this could be prevented with measures such as installing a lid on the open-air bath. However, only a simple net had been provided, which gave me the impression that everything was left up to guests. While minimum measures are in place, I would like to see more proactive steps. As for the large public bath area (Onsen), it had a simple design. It was nice that there wasn’t any crowding, but my overall satisfaction with it as an Onsen wasn’t very high. On the other hand, the meals were excellent—I was very satisfied with both dinner and breakfast. The chef’s hospitality also left a great impression and felt like one of this Accommodation’s biggest strengths. Overall, while I can definitely recommend the food without hesitation, my experience with insects left such a strong impression that I don’t feel able to visit again.

An Accommodation filled with all the thoughtful services you’ve enjoyed so far

This Accommodation had everything I’ve loved at a Ryokan: welcome matcha tea, two desserts (the pairing was excellent), late-night onigiri, unlimited towels at the large public bath, and thoughtful details like properly lined trash bins in the Room. Both dinner and breakfast were truly delicious. The head chef’s personality was wonderful as well. I’d love to return in a different season to enjoy the scenery of the trees and the great food.

    Relax as a couple

This time, we made a reservation for accommodation and spa treatments to rejuvenate our bodies after the New Year. The accommodation offered delicious meals, and the spa provided relaxing massages, making it a delightful day. My husband was pleased, saying, "I'm glad I could enjoy the snow-viewing bath."

    Cozy Staycation for Relaxation

We decided to celebrate a family birthday at an onsen accommodation nearby, known for its delicious meals, and made a reservation. Unfortunately, our preferred room was unavailable, but each family member enjoyed the private open-air baths, large public baths, and rooms with attached open-air baths, making it a satisfying stay. We are grateful to the staff for their attentive and pleasant service. The facility is equipped with handrails throughout, ensuring safe and comfortable use. Meals were beautifully presented and accompanied by gentle explanations from the staff, making them both visually appealing and delicious. We fully enjoyed our secluded stay until check-out. One drawback was that despite multiple heating devices in the room due to the season, it still felt cold around the feet and in the bedroom even when used at full capacity. We would like to visit again during a different season. Thank you for your hospitality!

    A very nice Onsen accommodation.

This Onsen is relatively unknown outside the Kansai area, but it is conveniently located within an hour's drive from Kyoto city and surrounded by beautiful nature. I have stayed at Yunohana Onsen twice before, but this time, Suisen was my favorite accommodation.

    Onsen for Parents and Children

Thank you for your hospitality the other day. I heard from my mother that she had a great stay with her friends before, so this time I stayed with her. The atmosphere of the ryokan, the staff, the food, the bath, the room, and the view from the room were all wonderful and very relaxing. My mother was also very satisfied and said she hopes to come back again. I wanted to try a massage as well, but I thought it would be nice if there were more affordable options available. For this reason, I gave 4 stars for service.

    I had a relaxing stay.

I enjoyed a relaxing time in the open-air bath in the room, which was refreshing. The facilities were well-equipped, and the room was clean, making it perfect for a secluded getaway. Here are some suggestions for improvement: - Many recent accommodations provide individually packaged or single-use skincare products. It would be great if these could be introduced. - Writing on slippers with markers feels a bit off... Perhaps using clips or decorative items to differentiate them would be more thoughtful. - There were many international guests, and I was surprised to see someone attempting to take photos with their phone in the public bath's changing area. A more detailed explanation of etiquette beforehand might be necessary. - The quality of ingredients in the meals seemed lower compared to before, and individual dishes felt smaller in portion size. While I understand that rising costs make it challenging without significant price increases, it was slightly disappointing as meals are one of the highlights of staying here. That said, everything tasted delicious. - Compared to other hotels' lounges that now offer not only drinks but also food and sweets, this facility's offerings seem less impressive by comparison. It might be time for an upgrade here as well.

    Staying with Elderly Parents

I stayed at this Accommodation with my parents, who were looking forward to enjoying delicious food. They finished both dinner and breakfast and were very satisfied. Every dish was excellent in both presentation and taste, and we were also moved by a surprise from the head chef. It was a wonderful way to show my appreciation to my parents.

    It was excellent!

We stayed at the accommodation to celebrate my parents' birthdays. Both of my parents have difficulty walking, and this summer's heatwave made it hard for them to go anywhere, so this was their first trip in a while. The outdoor bath was spacious, with a shower conveniently located nearby, making it easy for my parents to move around despite their mobility issues—they were very pleased. The meals were beautifully crafted with great attention to detail and offered a wide variety of delicious dishes. However, the sake tasting set was disappointing as the quantity felt insufficient for the price. After returning to our room from dinner, we were surprised with a celebratory gesture! It was truly touching. With only a few guest rooms available, the accommodation was very quiet and allowed us to enjoy a relaxing time. My parents were extremely satisfied. Thank you very much!

    Not a guest-oriented service.

After returning home, I reflected calmly for a few days before making my judgment. While I had high expectations when making the reservation, considering the cost-performance ratio, I was left dissatisfied. The dining experience encapsulated everything. On the first day, dinner was decent; however, on the second day, breakfast was delivered without any interaction with staff or other guests. Anticipating crowds at checkout time, I settled my bill in advance but still faced heavy congestion before 11 AM. Carrying all my luggage myself, one staff member managed to see me off as I departed the accommodation. Looking back briefly: The lounge offered Häagen-Dazs ice cream alongside coffee, tea, and cold water but felt far from well-equipped. Dinner was creative and satisfying; however, breakfast featured cheap ingredients and tasted so different that it seemed unlikely to have been prepared by the same chef—it did not suit my palate at all. Although semi-private rooms were provided for meals, hearing chewing sounds from neighboring tables was bothersome. I arrived at 2:30 PM as notified in advance to find that parking spaces were nearly full—likely due to many guests wanting to enjoy their stay at this ryokan fully. During check-in procedures when asked about meal times for dinner and breakfast respectively—before even responding—I was unexpectedly assigned a 9 AM breakfast slot without consultation or flexibility while still processing this abrupt decision-making process. Guidance through facilities leading up towards our room remained standard practice overall upon arrival itself around 3 PM whereupon heading towards private open-air baths required borrowing keys beforehand accordingly scheduled reservations therein revealed limitations such bathing areas disallow washing hair/body instead solely soaking purposes necessitating subsequent visits communal large bathhouses featuring heated non-flow-through onsens neither exceptional nor disappointing experiences therein encountered thereafter ultimately concluding satisfactory cleanliness within guestroom accommodations inclusive attached private open-air baths therein appreciated nonetheless overall impressions derived cumulatively suggest potential improvements achievable repeat stays fostering personalized enhancements albeit recollections surrounding second-day occurrences retrospectively reinforce sentiments wishing prior awareness regarding lower-rated reviews beforehand mitigating regrets subsequently experienced thereby

    A highly satisfying accommodation.

This was my first visit to Kameoka City, about a 4-hour trip. To be honest, when I first saw the exterior of the accommodation, it looked a bit old and my expectations dropped... However, once inside, I was pleasantly surprised in every way. The room design was well thought out—compact yet highly functional. Usually, I find something that doesn't quite suit me during stays elsewhere, but with Suisen, there was absolutely nothing to complain about. I especially liked the ceiling-mounted TV. The vanity table and jewelry box were unique touches not often seen elsewhere. Even the bath basket was so lovely that I wanted to purchase one for myself! The private open-air bath we used immediately after arrival as part of our D-member benefits was incredibly spacious for two people and very comfortable. The cold water in the rest area tasted exceptionally refreshing! However, it would have been even better if there had been options like sports drinks or sparkling water available—or even ice cream! Additionally, having a sauna would make it perfect; some accommodations we choose specifically for their private saunas. As for meals: Everything—from presentation to taste and portion size—was outstanding. S-san's attentive service made it all the more enjoyable. The quality of the Hassun dish stood out even among other kaiseki meals I've experienced—it truly impressed me! Normally I can't finish everything due to large portions or personal preferences; however, this time (including breakfast), I completely finished every dish—a surprise even to myself! The Saikyo-style grilled salmon became an instant favorite. When we asked questions about certain dishes or tableware during our meal service, Chef K himself kindly explained them in detail while S-san joined us in delightful conversation as well. We hope to return during matsutake mushroom or crab season next time! From my seat at dinner nothing seemed amiss; however my husband mentioned noticing some dirt on the air conditioner which caught his attention slightly. One thing that personally stood out negatively for me though: indoor footwear being slippers instead of geta sandals or zori felt less traditional compared with typical ryokan stays. Since we enjoyed using only private open-air baths earlier on arrival day—the rest involved just utilizing indoor baths afterward—but both water quality & temperature were excellent enough where someone like myself who rarely enjoys long soaks could relax longer than usual leaving skin feeling silky smooth afterward too! Our stay at Suisen provided such relaxing comfort throughout thanks largely due meticulous attention-to-detail services making sure guests' needs are met perfectly fitting phrase "attentive care reaching every corner." We look forward visiting again soon someday ahead hopefully soon enough again someday ahead!! Thank You So Much

Second stay at the accommodation in 12 years.

The staff provided excellent service. Each dish was visually appealing and delicious (though the portions were a bit small). However, having stayed at various onsen ryokans, I couldn't help but compare. The room felt outdated, the amenities like toothbrushes seemed cheap for the price, and the lounge service was lacking. It was a family birthday celebration, but despite the good reviews, it felt a bit underwhelming. Additionally, there was a smoking area right in front of our room on the 3rd floor, and the smell of cigarettes was very strong. Personally, I would prefer smoking areas to be located away from rooms—ideally outside on the 1st floor with proper ventilation. It's disappointing for such a high-end ryokan.

    Appreciation for the accommodation's service

On 7/30, I had an accommodation reservation during the Kamchatka earthquake. A tsunami forecast of 3m was issued for the Pacific coast from Hokkaido to Kyushu. While traveling from Shizuoka to Mie, I learned about this and was unsure whether to return home or stay at the accommodation. I called the accommodation as I was also concerned about the cancellation fee since it was on the same day. When I called, they said they couldn't give an immediate answer but would call back shortly. At that point, they informed me that there would be no cancellation fee. After some consideration, I decided to continue my trip as it is an accommodation I visit every year. Thank you for the onsen, delicious food, and kind staff.

An accommodation you'd want to stay at again.

I was thrilled to finally stay here after struggling to make a Reservation for the desired date. The meals were outstanding. My wife and child finished everything and were extremely happy. The flavor of the simmered eggplant and onion was especially exquisite! The attention to detail in the dishes was evident, and the presentation on beautiful plates made it even more enjoyable visually. I also appreciated that the head chef came by our dining room to greet us—it was a delightful touch. The open-air bath in our Room, as well as the large public open-air bath and private baths, offered stunning views of nature and lovely nighttime lighting. The Facility in the lobby was excellent. With coffee and ice cream available, we could relax with our family after bathing or meals. The ice cream particularly delighted my child (laughs). While I can't pinpoint specifics, compared to other Ryokans I've stayed at before, I feel that even more meticulous customer service would enhance the experience further. It's hard to secure a Reservation here, but I'm looking forward to staying again if I can make one next time!

This is my third stay. I always enjoy a wonderful accommodation.

Thank you for your hospitality once again. Although it had been about a year since our last stay, we truly appreciated that you remembered us and even confirmed our meal preferences in advance. My wife and mother requested spa treatments, and they mentioned not only how skillful and relaxing the treatments were but also how they could immediately feel the effects. We enjoy filling the indoor bath in the room with water and alternating between it and the open-air bath, which we always do during our stays. The chef personally came to explain each dish to us, which was very thoughtful. The meals were incredibly diverse, and every dish was delicious. We would love to visit again!
