    It was less than I expected...

    I was looking forward to my stay because the Reviews were good, but unfortunately the Room didn’t feel luxurious and had a somewhat dated design and layout. The open-air bath felt very exposed, as it seemed like other Rooms could see in, so I couldn’t relax… I would appreciate improvements from a guest’s perspective.

    It exceeded my expectations!

    At the end of our Golden Week trip to Beppu, we moved on to Yufuin. We stayed here for our final night. This time, we booked the “Carefully Selected Kyushu Wagyu Tenderloin Indulgence Plan” and spent one night in the PREMIUM Suite Room “Kunugi.” To sum it up, it was unquestionably a wonderful stay. First of all, the Room is spacious! A relaxing Japanese-style living room, plus a bedroom with a second living area. And the highlight is surely the open-air bath on the large terrace—amazingly, there are two baths: one fully open-air and one semi-open-air! The weather was great that day, so we enjoyed the breeze and long soaks. I was still in the bath right up until just before check-out (lol). The meal was also excellent—the main dish featured both tenderloin and Bungo chicken. It was also appreciated that anything we couldn’t finish could be served again the next morning. That said, it’s quite a generous portion, so those with smaller appetites should take note. The Accommodation staff’s service was at a very satisfying level. There are many other Accommodations in Yufuin I’d like to try someday, but this stay was a perfect finale to our Golden Week trip.

    I will definitely stay here again.

    The hospitality was very attentive. The meals were excellent, and we were very satisfied. The Onsen was also very relaxing. It was quiet, and we were able to enjoy an early summer vacation at a leisurely pace. Next time, we would like to visit in winter.

    Adults-only time

    We stayed here for the first time on our wedding anniversary, A hidden Ryokan quietly nestled in the mountains. Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, we were able to spend a relaxing, peaceful time. There is an Onsen with both indoor and outdoor baths, and we enjoyed it thoroughly. This is an Accommodation we’d love to visit again next year.

    The hospitality and meals are outstanding.

    From the warm welcome at check-in to the heartfelt send-off at check-out the next day, everything was excellent. The meals were very delicious. The Onsen has a slight iron scent, perhaps due to its high iron content, but it leaves your skin feeling smooth. I think this Onsen Accommodation offers great value for a relaxing stay.

    Hey, Vietnamese guy!

    We stayed at Kogomi to celebrate my partner’s birthday. The Room, Onsen, meals, and service were all excellent, and the peaceful atmosphere surrounded by nature made it a truly relaxing stay that my partner really enjoyed. They also brought the birthday cake to our Room, and a Vietnamese staff member who delivered it sang a birthday song and celebrated with us. It made us so happy and became a wonderful memory. Thank you very much. We truly appreciate everyone’s kindness. We will definitely come back again as a couple.

    The meals were very ...

    The meals were very delicious, but having tempura served after the meat felt a bit heavy. Since the meat was fatty sirloin, I would have preferred a leaner cut, even in a smaller portion. At my age, I can’t eat very rich foods as much. The bed mattress was quite firm and felt uncomfortable at first. It was the hardest bed I’ve ever slept on. The futon mattress felt softer by comparison. They may be similar, but it still felt very firm and difficult to sleep on. The service was excellent.

    Very well-balanced

    Considering typical prices in Yufuin, this Accommodation offers an exceptional balance of meals, Room quality, service, and value. It will surely satisfy guests who are accustomed to staying at luxury Onsen Ryokan. The Bungo beef steak is outstanding, and the Onsen water in Yufuin is as soothing as ever. Highly recommended.

    Wonderful.

    The surroundings were pleasant and the location was quiet, so I was able to relax. The staff were great, and I was satisfied with the meals as well. It would have been even better if the Facility amenities had been improved.

    The meals were excellent.

    We visited at the end of January 2026 for a trip to Yufuin as a couple. We only realized after staying that children are not allowed. They provide a microbus Shuttle Service from in front of Yufuin Station. They were flexible with timing, so we contacted them to match our sightseeing schedule. The driver and the service staff were Asian employees, but their Japanese was excellent and they were attentive to details, so we had no issues. After about a 10-minute drive, we arrived at the Accommodation. The front desk staff was Japanese, and since we had paid in advance, check-in was completed in just a few minutes. From the main building to our Room there were 46 steps, but they carried our suitcase for us. The stairs are covered, so I don’t think it would be slippery even in rain or snow. There are Rooms with different styles—some are standalone villas, while others are connected units. This time we stayed in one of the connected Japanese-Western style Rooms. The interior was very clean, and there was both air conditioning and a heater. There was also a water dispenser and a coffee machine. In addition to yukata, they provided sweatshirt-style sleepwear and haori jackets in both thick and thin options; we wore the thicker one this time. Once inside the Room, we could enjoy a full view of Mt. Yufu through a large window, and the scenery was wonderful. Before dinner, we relaxed in the private free-flowing hot spring bath in our Room. The water contains a lot of iron as well as magnesium, so there is a faint iron smell when you soak. Some people may not like it, but the smell doesn’t linger if you rinse off. Also, the source temperature seemed low, but it was fine as long as we added hot water as needed. Several towels were provided, so even bathing 2–3 times during one night was no problem. Dinner started at 6:30 PM, and everything was delicious. Partway through, we needed to cook the sirloin steak and chicken ourselves on a gas burner. Oil can splatter, so you may want to be careful with your clothes. The portions were generous; we couldn’t finish all the meat, but they offered to serve it the next morning with different seasoning, which made us very satisfied overall. There were several drink options as well—we started with champagne and also enjoyed Kyushu wine and Oita barley shochu. At night it was quiet and we slept soundly. In the morning we had the capsule coffee in our Room—it was very good. Breakfast started at 8:30 AM and was also lavish. They prepared last night’s leftover meat in a Japanese style for us, and both of us had seconds of rice. It was a truly enjoyable stay.

    Mother-Daughter Girls' Trip

    I stayed with my two daughters, making it a group of three. The room was clean and very comfortable. Both dinner and breakfast were luxurious and incredibly delicious, featuring seasonal vegetables and ingredients from Oita. We all enjoyed the breakfast so much that we even had seconds. The private bath in the room was spacious, with natural flowing onsen water, connected to a deck where we could enjoy a view of Mount Yufu while bathing—such a luxurious experience. The staff were all kind and attentive; this is an accommodation I would love to stay at again.

    The cost performance may not be the best.

    Stayed on the final day of our Kyushu trip. The Onsen with a view of Mount Yufu was amazing. The water quality was excellent, and the "Kogomi" room had both an indoor bath and an open-air bath, which were spacious and very satisfying. The meals were plentiful, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. Although many staff members were from overseas, they worked hard and left a positive impression. However, for accommodation exceeding 100,000 yen on weekdays, it felt lacking. At this price range, accommodations often include all-inclusive services or well-equipped lounge services; however, there were none of these extras here, making the cost-performance feel not so great... Therefore, I regret to say that my satisfaction with the Accommodation Fee was low and have slightly lowered my rating as a result. Thank you for your hospitality!

    A peaceful accommodation away from the hustle and bustle of Yufuin

    Thank you for your hospitality. This was our first time staying here, and we enjoyed a relaxing family trip. 【Room & Amenities】 We stayed in the "Warabi" room this time. The 54m² + 15m² room was spacious, with a twin-bed bedroom, an 8-tatami mat Japanese-style room, and a sofa—more than enough space for us. The capsule coffee provided was plentiful and appreciated. However, I wished the amenities were of slightly higher quality. 【Service】 Aside from the front desk staff, most of the staff were non-Japanese speakers; however, communication went smoothly without any issues. 【Onsen & Bath】 The bath in our room featured natural flowing Onsen water with excellent quality that left our skin feeling smooth—it was truly wonderful! 【Facility】 Since the hotel is located on a slope, moving around can be slightly inconvenient. Other than that, it’s a great hotel overall. 【Dining】 The meals served were so generous in portion size that even an adult male couldn’t finish them all—and every dish was delicious! Although I could only eat about half of the "Oita Wagyu" served at dinner, it was prepared lightly grilled for breakfast the next morning and tasted delightful! 【Satisfaction】 Overall, we were very satisfied with our stay here. We look forward to staying again during our next visit to Yufuin!

    We stayed for our wedding anniversary. As mentioned in the reviews, the food was delicious, and all the staff were always smiling, which was wonderful. The onsen is a natural hot spring with free-flowing water available 24 hours a day, which was amazing. We had a fantastic time.

    Thank you for your hospitality. Bathing while enjoying the view of Mount Yufu amidst the majestic Yumuta Forest was truly wonderful. The meals were delicious, and we were especially pleased with how the steak, which was too much for seniors like us to finish, was creatively arranged for breakfast. The thoughtful and attentive hospitality made our stay very comfortable. Thank you very much. It is an accommodation we would love to visit again.

    It seems the expectations were too high...

    This was my first time using this accommodation. With high ratings and its reputation as a difficult place to book, I had high expectations, but... First of all, the check-in time at 3 PM felt late. The room was neither particularly good nor bad, but personally, I found the layout quite inconvenient when actually using it. Since we stayed as a pair, the raised seating area became completely unused dead space. The bathroom did not have double sinks, counter space was limited, and compared to accommodations of similar level, the amenities seemed rather inexpensive. As for the bath, it had a strong metallic smell and lacked any smooth or moisturizing sensation in the water quality; I didn’t find it very pleasant. Regarding meals, they were average with no particular impression left behind. At other accommodations of similar price range that I’ve stayed at before, they often provide rice balls made from freshly cooked rice in an earthen pot for late-night snacks... While grilling chicken or beef yourself can be enjoyable for some people, there was too much food overall and oil splattered onto tables and floors excessively—leaving behind smells which wasn’t ideal either. The next morning we were assigned to dine at the same table again; hence wearing casual attire like samue felt necessary due to concerns about lingering oil stains or odors. Dinner started strictly at 6:30 PM while breakfast began only at 8:30 AM without flexibility on timing—this caused stress especially during breakfast where waiting times were longer than expected compared with other places where guests are seated immediately upon arrival. One positive aspect was being able to enjoy views of Mount Yufu directly from our balcony! However my husband found locking/unlocking doors cumbersome since keyholes were positioned unusually low requiring him bending down every time. Beds seemed comfortable likely being Simmons mattresses which provided good sleep quality! Unfortunately though refrigerators contained nothing inside—not expecting fully inclusive hotel services—but still inconvenient given how most accommodations usually stock essentials like water bottles juice beer etc., here even vending machines weren’t available so late-night trips out towards convenience stores became necessary just fetching cold drinks... Hospitality-wise interactions went smoothly enough yet predominantly handled by foreign staff members lacking local insights extra touches regarding cuisine culture etc., unlike recent stays elsewhere where chefs themselves engaged answering questions about dishware leading meaningful conversations perhaps raising expectations too high beforehand? Overall impression suggests improvements could be made learning better practices observed among similarly priced competitors apologies if feedback comes across overly critical!

    For my husband's retirement and my 60th birthday celebration trip

    This was my first time staying at this accommodation. I was initially concerned because there were foreign staff, but they had wonderful smiles and provided warm and thoughtful service, which made me feel at ease. The food was excellent, though the portions were a bit large for our age group. It was great that the leftover ingredients were used for breakfast without waste. For people of our age with weakening legs, the number of stairs was a bit challenging. I wanted to bring my mother next time, but it seems difficult without ramps, which is very unfortunate. If I have another opportunity, I would love to stay here again!

    I had a relaxing time.

    Located in a very quiet area, I felt a bit uneasy on the way, but upon arriving at the Hotel, a staff member was waiting outside in the parking lot, and I was impressed by their courteous service from the start. I had informed them in advance about ingredients I am not fond of, and they accommodated my request with great care. The meal was delicious. I apologize for leaving some food as I have a small appetite. The Onsen in the Room had just the right temperature, allowing me to relax and enjoy it thoroughly. If there’s one thing to mention, breakfast being available only from 8:30 AM delayed our departure and prevented us from visiting one of our planned sightseeing spots. However, aside from that, everything else—the staff's hospitality, meals, and Onsen—was absolutely wonderful!

    Family Trip

    We had a wonderful family trip. From the pick-up at the parking lot to carrying our luggage to the room and serving meals, all the staff, including foreign staff, were polite and greeted us with smiles. The Onsen was very relaxing, and although there was more food than we could finish, it was delicious and satisfying. We were lucky to see fireworks from our room, making it an unforgettable family trip. Thank you very much!

    It was actually our honeymoon.

    This accommodation was chosen for our honeymoon. The sense of privacy was very comfortable, and we were extremely satisfied with the room's private bath. However, if I may point out a small detail, there was mold on the bathroom ventilation fan and a dead cicada on the window rail of the bathroom, which caught my attention slightly. As for the cuisine, I would give it top marks. The meticulous attention to detail was impressive and left us very satisfied. We would love to visit again for another special occasion.

    A Scorching Summer Retreat

    This is my second stay at Accommodation Ryunohige. After my first visit, I wanted to stay here again, but it was difficult to secure a reservation, and quite some time had passed. Although I always travel alone, this accommodation is perfect for relaxing or taking a break after exploring Yufuin. Above all, the price is reasonable, and considering the hospitality at this rate in Yufuin, it's understandable that the reviews are highly rated. I prefer spacious rooms and stayed in a suite type room. It was so large that it felt excessive for one person but provided a comfortable space with strong air conditioning for relaxation. The staff included many international members who spoke excellent Japanese and provided attentive service, reflecting the thorough training of this accommodation. During the autumn foliage season when reservations fill up everywhere, I believe the view of greenery and autumn leaves from this accommodation's room would be exceptional. The meals were satisfying in both quality and quantity; thank you very much for your hospitality. The thoughtful gesture of serving leftover steak from dinner during breakfast also reflects their care. The only reason I refrained from giving 5 stars was that the open-air bath felt slightly cramped like being in an octopus pot. However, everything else met my expectations satisfactorily. I look forward to visiting again—thank you very much for your hospitality!

    I had a relaxing time.

    I stayed here with my daughter this time. Since we were sightseeing, it was a bit disappointing that dinner time was limited to 6:30 PM. Most of the staff were from overseas, but they were polite, spoke excellent Japanese, and perfectly explained the complex meal details. When I mentioned we would be sightseeing in Yufuin the next day, they kindly marked recommendations on a map by hand—such warm hospitality! The meals were wonderful, and the pottery used was so exquisite that I couldn't help but admire it. The bath is a natural hot spring with an incredible view of Mount Yufu right in front of you! The Room was clean and comfortable. However, I wished there had been towels in the sink area and adjustable lighting near the bed. The geta sandals were charming but hurt my feet while walking. While staying in a detached room is lovely, it might be challenging for those with mobility issues. After checking out and being kindly dropped off at the station, I realized I had forgotten some clothing items. They went out of their way to deliver them to Yufuin Station's information counter—such impressive coordination! Yufuin is truly amazing! If you're looking for a luxurious trip experience, I highly recommend this place.

    Highly Satisfied

    The open-air bath and the cuisine were both wonderful, but what left the deepest impression was the heartfelt hospitality of the foreign staff. Their Japanese was polite, and their smiles and attentiveness felt so natural. I was truly moved by their approach to service, carefully observing our needs and responding accordingly. Making a once-in-a-lifetime encounter during a trip this comfortable is truly remarkable. Each dish was meticulously prepared and absolutely delicious. The sirloin steak was also a feast for the eyes! (Though as an older guest, I would have appreciated filet more—haha.) The bath with views of Mount Yufu was incredibly relaxing, and the presence of such dedicated staff made this accommodation even more special. Thank you very much!

    Excellent staff service, cuisine, and amenities

    This was my third visit, and this time I stayed in Kunugi. The indoor and open-air baths had perfect water temperatures, and I enjoyed multiple soaks. I believe it was around the same time last year when I visited as well, and I had the pleasure of reconnecting with the very friendly foreign staff members, making for a relaxing stay. Of course, the Japanese staff were also wonderful, serving us a delicious breakfast. The highlight was definitely dinner—while it has always been excellent from the start, the volume and taste of Bungo beef and Oita chicken served later in the meal were beyond impressive. Even for two big eaters like us, we couldn’t finish it all that night; they kindly prepared it for us to enjoy at breakfast instead—and that too was exceptional. With no complaints whatsoever, we left the accommodation just before 11 AM feeling completely satisfied.
