Late Obon Holiday
This was our first family trip in a while, as it coincided with our second son’s first year of full-time work and the purchase of our third dog—plus the dog’s first stay at a pet hotel! We searched for a one-night Onsen getaway and chose this Ryokan because the Room has a free-flowing Onsen bath. From Osaka, it took about four hours by car at our own pace (with about 30 minutes of traffic due to refurbishment work). It also happened to be the day of a summer festival, and we were surprised to find that the main intersection corner was right by the Ryokan. After checking in, we headed to the Room. It was very spacious: a Japanese-style room of around 10 tatami mats, another of about 6 tatami mats, an entrance area of about 4 tatami mats, plus an open-air bath and what felt like around 3 tatami mats for the changing area. It was more than enough space for three people. I saw some comments mentioning age, but it didn’t bother us at all—in fact, the exterior also seemed nicely renovated. One issue: amenities/towels. There were enough large towels, but not many medium or small ones. That meant no hand towel for the sink or toilet area, and there were no small towels at all—so we ended up drying our hands with bath towels. There are paper towels, but they don’t absorb well, so you use a lot and quickly fill up the trash can. As for meals: we chose the standard kaiseki course and didn’t have high expectations—and it matched that impression. The volume felt like a “mini kaiseki,” and nothing really stood out. Our second son said their branded rice is delicious, so he was looking forward to breakfast rice—but apparently breakfast used different rice that tasted like ordinary commercial rice, which was very disappointing. Also, while it’s nice that grilled fish is brought out for you, you have to choose just one from three options (flounder / pufferfish / blackthroat seaperch), which felt oddly stingy. It might look more generous if they served smaller dried fish portions—three types (or four including salmon)—that guests could grill at their own timing instead. The solid fuel burned out quickly too; if you’re late flipping it over even slightly, half can end up undercooked—so longer-lasting fuel would be appreciated. And having only three side items (raw oysters, butter-grilled abalone, and meat?) felt sparse. Finally—the baths were truly excellent: the large public bath(s), open-air bath(s), and especially the open-air bath in our Room were wonderful. My son said he’d prefer saunas in both areas and wished they were hotter—but I loved it so much I think I used our private open-air bath about ten times. Being able to watch fireworks was also great!

The fireworks were visible directly in front of the Room.
This was my first stay, and I was very satisfied—not only with the fireworks, but also with the Onsen and the meals (both breakfast and dinner were served in semi-private dining rooms, and dinner was a kaiseki course).

What is all-inclusive?
Was the website unclear? We chose this place because we were drawn to the term “all-inclusive.” It was nice that coffee in the entrance lounge upon arrival and alcoholic drinks in the inner lounge were available free of charge. However, we assumed dinner was also “all-inclusive,” and when we were asked to sign an alcohol order slip at dinner, we realized there might be an extra charge—ultimately, we did have to pay for alcoholic drinks at dinner. I wish this had been explained more clearly. The Room was a good one—a longer layout with a bedroom and a private open-air bath—but the sound of running water from the open-air bath was irritating all night. We have stayed in many rooms with private open-air baths, but this was the first time the water noise was this bothersome. At minimum, I wish the sliding door separating the bath and the room had better soundproofing. On the second night, we avoided using the bed on the bath side and ended up laying out futons ourselves in the adjacent Japanese-style room. Even though it comes with a private open-air bath, this was very disappointing.

A Refreshing Getaway
I stayed on a kaiseki Plan with all-inclusive benefits. It takes about 10 minutes to reach the Accommodation by Shuttle Service bus from the nearest station, Kaga-Onsen Station. The lounge was great, with a wide variety of alcoholic drinks available. At dinner, I enjoyed local Hokuriku sake that paired perfectly with the delicious kaiseki cuisine. At breakfast, I liked being able to choose from three types of fish for grilled fish. They also asked if I would like alcohol in the morning, and I had a draft beer. This is an excellent Plan for those who enjoy drinks, and I hope you will continue offering it.

I spent a peaceful time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
This was my first time visiting Katayamazu Onsen. I wanted to enjoy crab from the Sea of Japan, and while searching for a good place, I found this Accommodation on IKYU. We took the Shuttle Service bus, arrived at the Hotel, and my first impression when I entered the Room was, “So spacious!” The surface of Lake Shibayama seen from the Room was calm and still, making for a wonderfully quiet view. As renovations were underway, there were areas covered with soundproof sheets, but it didn’t bother me much. Dinner was a special menu featuring 2.2 crabs, so we walked to the public bath (Soyu) as a bit of exercise. It seemed like a bath mainly used by local residents. Since there is an Onsen at the Hotel as well, we had tea at the café on the second floor with a great view. After returning to the Hotel, we went to the Onsen. It seems they alternate between men and women daily; we started with the larger bath. With plenty of hot water flowing in, it warmed us up thoroughly. And then—the crab we had been waiting for! The volume was beyond expectations; from 6:00 p.m., we spent three full hours enjoying crab to our hearts’ content. Every dish was delicious, and the staff explained each one so clearly that we enjoyed everything even more. Breakfast was also excellent. We lightly grilled some fish ourselves, and the rolled omelet (dashimaki tamago) was delicious too. There were also small portions of tasty local specialties. It’s truly such a quiet place—we loved it. Thank you for such a luxurious time!

Highly satisfied
Service, Facility, amenities, and more. We were completely satisfied with everything. When we visit Kanazawa again, we will definitely make a Reservation. Thank you to all the staff.

The meals were excellent.
We came mainly for the crab, and we were very satisfied to enjoy it in full, with sashimi, steak, and even shabu-shabu. However, it started snowing heavily that night. The open-air bath was too cold so we used the sauna instead, but it was disappointing that the water itself had cooled down. The indoor bath was still fairly hot, which helped, but due to the snow we couldn’t use either the sauna or the open-air bath late at night. We looked forward to bathing again the next morning, but even the indoor bath water was only about body temperature, so it was cold and we got out right away. Even though we came for the Onsen, not being able to relax in it completely ruined the satisfaction from the meal. Not only was the open-air bath unusable because of the snow, we couldn’t even access the sauna. For a snowy region, it was surprising that there seemed to be no snow countermeasures. What disappointed us even more was that the photo of the open-air bath showed a beautiful lake view, but in reality there was a wall and we couldn’t see outside, and snow blew in from above. It’s very unfortunate because the food was excellent. Please improve this. We plan to visit again.

Room with Issues
I stayed in a discounted Room, and the only drawback was that it didn’t have a private bath. It was close to the large public bath, and the Room was spacious with beds. I was very satisfied with both the sauna and the Onsen.

Relax at the Onsen
We enjoyed table tennis, a stone sauna, and the free-flowing Onsen without feeling rushed. There was also a public foot bath right in front. The staff provided excellent service, and the meals were delicious. We highly recommend opting for the meal-inclusive plan.

Relaxing Accommodation
The New Year's cuisine was visually appealing and delicious.

The cuisine is exquisite.
Dinner and breakfast were highly satisfying in both taste and quantity. However, the view from the large public bath was restricted, possibly due to ongoing construction work.

The worst Hotel among those visited across the whole country in the past.
I stayed for 2 nights and 3 days in late December. The first "room with a semi-open-air bath" I was guided to had a strong odor, and the toilet and bathroom were in the same space with an outdated design. The toilet itself was an old model lacking cleanliness, there was no shower in the semi-open-air area, and it was not in a condition suitable for a comfortable stay. After requesting a room change, I moved to another room where the toilet was modern and clean, with a shower next to the semi-open-air bath. The difference in facility standards between these rooms within the same price range was striking. Throughout this process, staff explanations were minimal and impersonal. During meals, there were no explanations about the dishes, and service felt careless. This left an impression far removed from what one would expect based on its listed ratings or as an "established ryokan." What stood out as particularly unpleasant was their parking service on our final day. At departure, our car was directed to what seemed like an employee entrance at the back of the building, where we were asked to leave through that exit. The female staff member handling this did not offer any gestures of farewell or guidance such as verbal directions or safety checks while our car moved toward the exit. She only gave a small bow just before we departed but then walked away without further acknowledgment. It felt entirely devoid of any sense of being seen off as guests; instead, it came across as if we were being dismissed. Ending our trip with such treatment left us deeply disappointed. This stay turned what should have been one of travel's highlights—staying at accommodations—into its most stressful aspect. There is a significant gap between your listed descriptions/ratings and actual service quality here. Immediate improvements are needed regarding both facilities and customer service practices.

Overall, we were satisfied.
Dinner was a full-course crab meal, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The staff, especially the woman who attended to us, provided excellent service along with the other employees. The dining area was beautiful, clean, and a delightful space. However, we felt that there was too much boiled crab; my wife and I thought it would have been better if some of it were served as grilled crab instead since grilled crab is the most delicious in our opinion. As for breakfast, it was average and met basic expectations. This was our first visit to Katayamazu Onsen, and while the onsen town itself seemed somewhat quiet and underdeveloped, the accommodation had its charm despite showing some age (except for the dining area). The onsen itself was fantastic with great water quality, and having an open-air bath in our room with continuous hot spring water flow added to the experience. It would be wonderful if there were more tourist attractions nearby to revitalize the onsen town further. We visited a local souvenir shop but found it empty of customers and not very inviting for shopping. Overall, while we felt slightly unsatisfied regarding value for money (cost-performance), this accommodation has potential and left us hoping they continue striving for improvement in the future!

Delicious meals, relaxing Onsen, and intriguing rooms.
I stayed for relaxation purposes. The onsen and meals were excellent. However, one concern was that the room had a musty smell, which lingered on my clothes and bag even after returning home (as pointed out by my family). Aside from the musty smell in the room, everything else was great, so I hope this can be improved. If the room's odor is addressed, I would love to visit this accommodation again.

Meals are...
The building seemed quite old, but the room with an open-air bath was comfortable. We felt a lot of thoughtfulness, such as the welcome drink. However, it was disappointing that all the hot dishes at dinner were somewhat cold, which defeated the purpose of serving them one by one. The Onsen is said to spring from under the sea and has a salty taste, which is fine in itself, but I washed my face with fresh water.

I stayed at the Prop...
I stayed at the Property on New Year's Eve. Since I am currently pregnant, I chose a Room with an Onsen. The building and Room seemed to have some age, but they were well-cleaned, so I didn't feel uncomfortable! Above all, the New Year's Eve dinner and New Year's Day breakfast were so plentiful that I couldn't finish them, and everything was delicious, leaving me truly satisfied. Despite the earthquake and rising prices, I hope you can maintain this quality!! I would definitely like to use it again if I have the opportunity.

It was a nice Stays.
We stayed for one night and two days. The Facility is aged, but the interior and every corner of the Room were well-maintained and comfortable. The Onsen was also kept clean, and we were able to relax in both the open-air bath and the stone sauna. Additionally, there were various skincare options available, which was helpful. The breakfast was carefully prepared and very delicious, leaving us satisfied. The staff at the Ryokan were courteous, allowing us to have a worry-free stay. It was a very nice Stays that we would like to visit again if we have the opportunity.

I was really looking forward to my stay, but I was disappointed.
We stayed at this Accommodation to celebrate my spouse’s birthday, but there was no small gift and no acknowledgment. It was one of the most disappointing stays we’ve ever had. The front desk felt more like an office clerk than Ryokan hospitality—sneakers and office-style clothing, with an unfriendly impression. The “welcome drink” was a weak tea that guests had to make themselves. The cups looked old and cheap, and there were no Japanese sweets. The Room had old tatami mats, and the toilet was a cramped unit combined with a cheap bath set at an angle—like something from an old apartment complex, made of yellowish plastic. Even the door was a folding type. We were looking forward to the private open-air bath in the Room, but on the terrace there was only a small plastic bucket-like tub (not even 1 meter across) sitting alone. The faucet was an old type where you mix hot and cold water yourself. We didn’t feel like using it at all. There was also no visible outlet for continuously flowing hot spring water as shown on the website, and there wasn’t even a changing area nearby—so it felt misleading. Towels were not freely available; we were given only one small and one large towel each, both thin and small. The amenities were worse than those of a Business Hotel. The public bath was spacious and the water was clean, but everything felt dated—at least upgrading the showers would help. Meals (both dinner and breakfast) did not include any standout dish described as exceptional, but there were many items and everything tasted good. The staff serving meals were all pleasant. Overall, this Accommodation made it easy to understand why it may not be profitable.

The lakeside is attractive. There were various ways to enjoy it.
Since it was a room with an open-air bath, I could enjoy the view of the lakeside while soaking in the Onsen, which was pleasant. The quality of the water was also good, allowing for relaxation. The meals were delicious, and the dining area was calming. It was enjoyable and tasty to be able to choose dried fish for breakfast. However, it was very disappointing that the open-air bath in the large public bath was under construction and could not be used. Instead, I enjoyed karaoke and table tennis (both were free). I think that by utilizing the attractive resource of the lakeside, the entire Katayamazu Onsen could become a more attractive Onsen town.

Delicious meals and hot springs
I used it for a family trip. The hotel was clean and well-maintained, allowing us to have a comfortable stay. The large public bath had a deep tub filled with plenty of water, which was very soothing. Although the outdoor bath was unavailable due to the earthquake, alternative services were provided. The meals were beautifully presented with colorful dishes and arrangements, and they were very delicious and satisfying.
