The Five Flavors and Five Senses. An Accommodation That Fulfills You

After reading Reviews last year, I stayed here for the first time. I couldn’t forget how comfortable it was, so this year I booked a 2-night Multiple Night Stay. It’s a small Hotel with only six Rooms, but the warm hospitality from the staff and chef, along with the moor Onsen, truly soothed my heart. The private open-air bath was also spacious and open, and we could clearly see the beautiful stars. For dinner last time, I was impressed by the teppan French cuisine—especially the vegetables and Shiraoi beef—so on the first night this time we chose French again. It was just as delicious as before. On the second night, we tried Japanese cuisine for the first time—and it moved me more than I can say. Every dish was filled with unseen care and heartfelt effort; the dashi had an exquisite balance of saltiness and umami. From appetizer to dessert, it was a perfectly composed menu that felt thoroughly thought out. I don’t think you can easily find this level even in Tokyo. The sommelier selected wines and sake to match each dish, which made everything taste even better. The Room was calm and relaxing as well—it became a blissful summer holiday. Thank you to everyone there. We’ll be back again next year, and we look forward to seeing you then.

An Accommodation where you can enjoy Ainu culture and modern-day Hokkaido.

I visited on a Hokkaido Onsen-hopping trip. To sum it up, it was great. Although the Facility is small, it’s clean and comfortable. The Room also had a massage chair, so I could relax. There are also Ainu items displayed in the Accommodation, so if you visit after going to Upopoy, you’ll enjoy it even more. With only six Rooms, the hospitality felt attentive, and everyone was friendly—there was a nice, homey atmosphere. For dinner I chose Japanese cuisine and ate at the counter. Both breakfast and dinner featured seasonal Hokkaido ingredients, with delicious seafood and local vegetables—choosing Japanese cuisine was definitely the right call. I also heard that there are fewer seats for Japanese cuisine than for teppanyaki, which made me even happier with my choice. I enjoyed chatting with the head chef at the counter as well, and found their stories about today’s Hokkaido really interesting. The bath is a moor Onsen—this was exactly what I came for. I could enjoy it in the in-room bath. It has a distinctive dark color with reddish-brown tones—like cola—and a silky texture. The temperature is pleasantly hot, and afterward your body stays warm. Because it was an in-room bath, I ended up soaking many times. Ainu culture of the past and Hokkaido today—it really moved me. I’ll be back.

Enjoy the Onsen both outdoors and indoors.

This was my first time encountering Moor Onsen in Hokkaido, and while searching for a Hotel with an in-room Onsen, I found this place. The price wasn’t something I could book casually, but the experience exceeded it—if anything, it felt almost too good for the cost. With an in-room Onsen, I usually notice the sound of running water throughout the night, but here there was none at all. Since this Hotel only allows guests aged 12 and over, it was extremely quiet and comfortable. Even though the Moor Onsen is free-flowing and not heated, it was always at a pleasant temperature, and my skin felt wonderfully smooth. Plenty of towels were provided as well, so I enjoyed soaking many times without hesitation. The meals prepared by the head chef were so carefully crafted—with time-consuming and meticulous preparation—that I almost felt guilty finishing them so quickly. The salt level is thoughtfully adjusted, so even guests with high blood pressure or diabetes can likely enjoy everything with peace of mind. I also heard that the Onsen water is used in various stages of food preparation. At the Hotel entrance you can drink Onsen water as well, and there was a bottle of delicious silica-rich water—great for beauty—in the Room refrigerator. I saw a Review saying that there is less salmon roe at breakfast now; however, having large amounts (especially if it isn’t from Shiraoi) can lead to consuming too much salt or purines. Rather than eating unlimited quantities of one item you like best, I feel true luxury is being able to enjoy a variety of seasonal ingredients without worrying about health concerns. Just one small suggestion: sandals might be more comfortable than geta. I’d love to save up and visit again.

    We were very satisfied.

Just as everyone says, the food is delicious, and the wine is reasonably priced. The Room also had a mini stereo system, so I could relax in the massage chair while listening to music. The water provided during my stay was surprisingly easy to drink, and I’m thinking of buying it by the case. Above all, the staff’s kind service was truly soothing. It’s a Hotel that makes you want to come back and say, “I’m home,” especially when you’re tired. Thank you for taking such good care of me. I’d love to visit again.

The salmon roe at breakfast was…

At breakfast on my previous stay, I was thrilled to be able to add as much salmon roe over rice as I liked, and I even had seconds. That was the main reason I returned to Pirika Rera Hotel with high expectations, but this time there was only a tiny amount served in a small container—so little that you could count the grains. Dinner also wasn’t as impressive as before, although the chef kindly explained each ingredient in detail. The Shiraoi beef steak was listed as A5 on IKYU, but at the counter it was described as A4, and my portion had some noticeable sinew. I understand that with today’s rising prices and expenses, costs inevitably increase, but for guests who come specifically to enjoy the Onsen and meals, this visit was disappointing. The moor Onsen remained excellent as always. If salmon roe prices settle down again, I would like to visit once more. The staff who assisted us were wonderful.

Exquisite French Cuisine and Your First Moor Onsen

Not only were the rooms and service outstanding, but I was truly impressed by the cuisine. Each dish, lovingly and carefully prepared with local ingredients, was beautiful and delicious. I enjoyed the breakfast so much that I ate too much. It was my first time experiencing Moor Onsen, and it left my body feeling lighter. I have visited Hokkaido many times, but this was my first stay in Shiraoi Town, and I was surprised to find such a wonderful Hotel so close to the airport. It became an unforgettable Accommodation for me. With convenient access by train as well, I would like to visit again during the snowy season next time. Thank you for a luxurious and extraordinary stay.

    Spacious and relaxing

Watching the delicious dishes being prepared while eating felt like watching a show. The chef’s explanations were very enjoyable and made each dish even more delicious. The Onsen water was silky-smooth, and after my spa treatment I was told my skin felt wonderfully soft. The spa treatment was also very relaxing. I will definitely visit again. Thank you for your hospitality.

Excellent dining and Rooms with private Onsen baths

Recently, Accommodation prices have noticeably risen. Sometimes you find yourself thinking, “Wait—this Ryokan costs that much?” And once dinner and breakfast are added, staying overnight can feel like a big commitment. That said, this Hotel serves thoughtfully prepared dishes for both dinner and breakfast, and the Room is spacious even with beds—and comes with an Onsen bath. The price felt fair. The staff is a small but highly capable team, easy to talk to and very efficient. If I had to point out any issues: the sink drain in the Room was clogged; the private bath is open-air with no washing area (so it’s just for soaking); and I felt the lounge could use a bit more creativity to make it truly relaxing. Still, those are minor points. When traveling in southern Hokkaido, I’d like to make a Reservation here whenever availability allows. It also seems conveniently accessible from New Chitose Airport.

    Repeat-worthy! Highly satisfying!

I will definitely revisit. The onsen, cuisine, and service were all exceptional, leaving no room for complaints. By the time I finished dinner, I had already decided to book a multiple night stay next time. Living in Canada, I visit Japan 5–6 times a year for business trips, vacations, or family reunions. This stay was so worthwhile that it instantly erased the fatigue of a 14-hour flight. Even if it took 20 hours to get here, this accommodation would still be worth the journey. The onsen is a rare moor spring with such moisturizing properties that no lotion is needed even during Hokkaido's dry winters. My skin felt incredibly smooth and hydrated—comparable only to Tarumizu Onsen in Kagoshima. With just six rooms available at this accommodation and reservation-based open-air baths, everything was impeccably clean with perfect water temperature and carefully managed circulation systems. As for the cuisine—it’s Michelin-level... or perhaps even better! It ranks among the top three meals I've ever had in my life. This time I enjoyed Japanese cuisine but am considering trying teppanyaki next time as well. The chef explained each ingredient and cooking method thoroughly, making mealtime even more enjoyable. The natural onsen water available at the entrance was also delicious. My only regret is booking just one night. I’ve already started planning my next multiple night stay!

    While there are many...

While there are many accommodations offering luxurious meals, truly satisfying cuisine is surprisingly rare. This time, we enjoyed teppanyaki French cuisine. The dishes, which maximized the flavors of seasonal ingredients, were nothing short of "sophisticated." The straightforward seasoning avoided unnecessary complexity and was supported by a simple yet profound depth of flavor. It felt like watching a fast-paced movie while genuinely thinking, "This is delicious." "The most highly-rated accommodation in Hokkaido"—truly well-deserved.

    As expected, a wonderful Hotel.

Expecting great reviews, it was our first visit, and it exceeded our expectations. The cozy and welcoming atmosphere is soothing, and hospitality can be felt everywhere. We chose Japanese cuisine for our meals, which was absolutely delicious. The dishes are carefully prepared to be gentle on the body without compromising flavor, allowing us to fully enjoy the ingredients. Even my middle school-aged son was amazed at how tasty the vegetables were. One point to note is that the breakfast menu has a wide variety of dishes with rich flavors, which might feel heavy for women; however, the freshly cooked rice in a pot was delightful. The 100% natural moor Onsen is luxurious, and the quality of the water is outstanding. We left vowing to return as a family again soon!

    Unparalleled relaxation awaits.

I visited this accommodation over 10 years ago, and this was my first time returning in a long while. The room was spacious, and above all, I could enjoy unlimited access to the soothing moor Onsen. It was a relaxing stay that allowed me to unwind completely. Last time, we had Japanese cuisine, but my husband and I had talked about wanting to try French cuisine next time. This time, our wish came true with teppanyaki dishes. The local vegetables, meat products, and seafood were carefully prepared into delightful dishes that we thoroughly enjoyed. At breakfast, when asked how much salmon roe I would like on my rice bowl and made my request, they served an amount far beyond what I imagined—it was a pleasant surprise! It’s only about a 7-8 minute walk to Upopoy Cultural Village, making it convenient for sightseeing as well. The attentive service unique to small accommodations made for another pleasant stay just like last time. Since it’s quite far by plane from where we live, it’s difficult for us to visit outside of summer vacations; however, once retired in the near future, I’d love to come back during other seasons as well!

A top-class accommodation you'll want to stay at again and again!

I chose this accommodation with high expectations due to the rave reviews about the meals, and I was truly amazed by the exceptional quality of the food. The meticulous preparation and care put into each dish were evident, and everything was incredibly delicious. The sirloin steak of Shiraoi beef served at dinner was so tender that I mistook it for a filet steak; it wasn’t greasy at all, and paired perfectly with the garlic rice—I found myself wishing I could have it again tomorrow. The vegetables and soups were also intricately prepared and outstanding in flavor. Additionally, the salmon roe served at breakfast was so exquisite that it felt like an entirely different experience compared to what I've had at other ryokans. The staff's hospitality was impeccable, and seeing the cleaning team walking in a line together added a charming touch that warmed my heart. Although reservations are hard to secure for this accommodation, I definitely want to stay here again!

    This accommodation i...

This accommodation in Hokkaido often ranks highly, making it a place I’ve been interested in for some time. The unique onsen water, with its opaque bottom, feels more hygienic when you fill the bath yourself after check-in, similar to some moor onsen accommodations in Tokachi. While the wallpaper has been updated and some areas have been refreshed, it might be time to renovate the plumbing. The artificial scent (possibly air freshener?) lingering at the entrance wasn’t to my taste and even reached the dining area. The dishes made using onsen water were incredibly delicious. However, talking too much about salt content felt slightly targeted towards older guests—though it was still enjoyable! Overall, this was an accommodation with excellent cost performance.

    Natural Moor Onsen

I stayed here for a solo trip to refresh and relax. The natural moor Onsen, which is the highlight of this accommodation, was exactly as advertised and allowed me to rejuvenate both body and mind. Additionally, I found the hospitality, service, and food to be good. However, my overall satisfaction was average. This is just my opinion as a solo traveler, but while it might be fine during off-peak seasons, I wouldn't particularly recommend it during busy periods. On the day of my stay, I was the only solo traveler and had to share meal times at the same table with couples, families, and groups for both dinner and breakfast. Honestly speaking, it was a bit uncomfortable for me. I'm not shy or introverted by nature but ended up eating in silence that day (laughs). This is why my rating remains average. If I have another chance to visit again in the future, I'd like to come back with my family next time!

I was drawn by the delicious-looking meals and the moor hot spring, so I decided to stay. The Room's bath and the private large bath made me feel warm from the core of my body, making me want to visit again in winter. Both dinner and breakfast were French cuisine using local ingredients, and I appreciated that the chef explained each dish individually.

The dinner soup bowl is unforgettable!

Each dish for dinner is carefully prepared, with the specially crafted broth leaving a lasting impression. The small yet serene and tranquil atmosphere of the property creates a positive experience. Perhaps next time, it will be the teppanyaki dinner!

    Very satisfied, just as expected.

This was an accommodation I had always wanted to visit, and it truly lived up to its reputation! From the moment we arrived, the warm and attentive service left a great impression. The onsen with natural hot spring water was absolutely amazing. The room was clean and comfortable, and the meals exceeded all expectations in quality. It’s rare to find an accommodation that offers such exceptional dining experiences. I genuinely felt glad to have chosen this place for my stay. For dinner, we opted for a traditional Japanese kaiseki meal, and the chef personally explained each dish with great care, which conveyed their passion perfectly. Having stayed at various ryokans and hotels before, this was the first time I felt such dedication towards cuisine from an accommodation. It made for a truly memorable stay. We also enjoyed using the private bath; however, it lacked a washing area or shower facility within the space, which was slightly disappointing. Adding at least a shower would make it even more comfortable for guests to use.

A wonderful Hotel you’ll understand once you visit.

Great hot spring (rich moor spring water flowing abundantly) Delicious meals (French cuisine made with quality ingredients and careful preparation) Excellent facility (few rooms, providing a calm and relaxing stay) Wonderful staff (polite and moderately friendly) I was hoping to visit again during summer vacation, but it was fully booked in no time—no surprise there, though I’m disappointed. I’ll plan to visit another time. Thank you to all the staff for a wonderful day!

    Accommodation like home

After visiting for the first time in about 10 years, I found the sunlight through the curtains and the layout of the room to be as comfortable and relaxing as being at home. The room's bath with flowing Moor hot spring water was incredibly warming, and I enjoyed it multiple times. The amenities and ReFa hair dryer were the same as my favorites at home, which was a pleasant surprise. For dinner, we chose teppanyaki; the Shiraoi beef steak and garlic rice dashi chazuke were so delicious that I wished I could take them home! For breakfast, there was "Chika" dried overnight fish, which is rare to find in Kanto. While I would have loved another piece of it, the freshly cooked white rice from a pot was also excellent. Overall, this is a wonderful accommodation where you can casually drop by without any pretense.

    Another excellent stay.

The exceptional hospitality, the moor Onsen, and the exquisite cuisine made for a perfect stay. I was delighted to be informed about a spot where I could see Shima Enaga birds. Chef Koyama and Chef Negami were both remarkable individuals, and their dedication to daily efforts deeply inspired me. I felt motivated and energized with great respect for them. Thank you for providing a rejuvenating experience for both my mind and body. I will visit again!

    I want to come again.

Everything from arrival to departure at the Hotel was satisfying. The private open-air bath, the Room's open-air bath, the Japanese kaiseki dinner, and breakfast were all wonderful. Breakfast was a bit too much for me, so I couldn't finish it, but I wished I could have made rice balls with the leftover rice cooked in a pot! Haha My husband usually prefers buffets, but since I loved it so much, we are thinking of trying French cuisine next time. Thank you very much!

    Healing

My husband and I travel as a couple about three times a year. With our children now independent as working adults, we cherish the time we spend together, so I always plan our trips and we set off on our journeys. Each time, we create wonderful memories. This time, the property we stayed at was exceptional, offering a special yet relaxing experience. The meals were Japanese cuisine, with excellent ingredients and flavors that were also visually delightful. Conversations across the counter were very enjoyable. The staff's service was excellent. The guest room had a warm atmosphere, allowing us to spend a leisurely time. We enjoyed the mall onsen for the first time, and it was delightful to experience it multiple times. The meals, guest room, and service were all highly satisfying. It has become a property we want to visit repeatedly.

    It was a wonderful Stays.

The quality of the onsen with free-flowing hot spring water, exquisite cuisine, well-equipped amenities, and the comfort of the service made it a wonderful property in every aspect. Although it is not a property to enjoy so-called spectacular views, it is understandable why many people are captivated and give it high ratings. I felt very healed and energized. I would like to visit again.
