A top-class in-room bath—our best ever—paired with exceptional hospitality.
We stayed one night on the “Room with Scenic View Bath / Dinner: Teppanyaki” plan, and it was one of the best stays we’ve ever had among the many hotels and ryokan we’ve visited. What impressed us most was the in-room scenic-view bath. It was spacious and comfortable, and the overwhelming sense of openness when we opened the window made it easily the best private bath we’ve experienced. The view from the open-air bath in the public hot spring was also outstanding, and together with our room’s beautiful ocean view, we were able to fully enjoy the onsen. We felt genuine hospitality throughout our stay—from valet parking on arrival to a thorough check-in explanation. The anniversary surprises (a celebratory drink for a toast, an extra spiny lobster dish, a confetti ball popper, and a birthday cake) truly moved us as a couple. After check-in pancakes and evening lounge service were also wonderful touches—so much so that we happily felt “busy in a good way” enjoying everything. When an insect appeared in our room, staff came immediately to take care of it; as a couple who are not good with bugs, this really saved us. The dining exceeded expectations as well. Dinner at teppanyaki featured luxurious ingredients; not only was everything delicious, but watching the chef’s skill up close while enjoying their fun conversation made it exceptional. The teppanyaki omelet at breakfast was also the best we’ve ever had. Perhaps because there are only a limited number of rooms, we rarely ran into other guests in elevators or elsewhere—another luxury that helped maintain a private atmosphere. With hopes that this property will become even better, we would be grateful if you could consider just three improvements: 1. Cleaning: We noticed quite a bit of dust buildup on part of the window screen in the toilet. 2. In-room wear: In addition to yukata robes, it would be nice to have more relaxing options such as samue loungewear. 3. Bedding: We usually prefer beds, so having a bed option even for rooms with scenic-view baths would be greatly appreciated. At checkout you kindly took photos for us and waved until our car disappeared from view—it left us feeling warmly cared for until the very end. We will definitely return next time; we’d love to try different dinner options besides teppanyaki as well as other breakfast choices too. Thank you very much for such a wonderful time.

I had a relaxing stay.
I checked in at 2:00 PM and enjoyed a relaxing stay until 10:30 AM the next morning. I took plenty of time to enjoy the spa treatment, so I didn’t have time before dinner to use the hot springs or enjoy the complimentary drink service. I would be even happier if spa treatments were also available on the morning after my stay.

A Hotel with Exceptional Hospitality
This was my second stay here. The first time, I stayed with my husband. We had such a wonderful experience that this time we came to celebrate my aunt’s birthday. The food was delicious, all the staff were kind, and there were many thoughtful touches—my aunt was very happy. I would love to stay again. I took too many photos of dinner to post them all, so I’m sharing one in the yukata I borrowed from my aunt and a photo of the Japanese-style breakfast.

Celebration Inn
Thank you for giving us such a wonderful time celebrating my 77th birthday. During our two-night stay, we enjoyed truly premium hospitality—excellent staff service and outstanding dining, including French kaiseki, teppanyaki, and afternoon tea. We were very satisfied with all the thoughtful touches throughout our stay.

An Accommodation Recommended for Advance Planning and a Multiple Night Stay
We travel every year to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and when we looked for a place to stay in Kitagawa Onsen—home to the wonderful Kuroneiwa Bath that we had enjoyed before—we found CAREN, which promotes itself as a “celebration inn,” and stayed for two nights. We usually stay two nights, but while we’ve seen a few inns where you can order lunch on the in-between day for an extra fee (which is very helpful if you plan to stay in), this was our first time at an inn like CAREN where, if you wish, they provide a bento and tea on both the middle day and the checkout day. It was a delightful surprise. We requested it on both days; everything was delicious, and we enjoyed a relaxing bento lunch together while looking out at the sea. Not only that, there is also an exclusive lounge for consecutive-night guests, and we received a complimentary one-drink cocktail service. Even for one-night stays, coffee and tea are available in the lobby, and in the evening there are alcoholic drinks and sweets as well—so I think one-night guests can fully enjoy their stay too. Because CAREN offers services at set times throughout the day, checking the schedule in advance will help you make the most of everything. Also, it seems that even with the same room type there are different plans depending on where meals are served. If you’re visiting specifically for a celebration, I recommend looking through other dining-plan options as well. We originally came mainly for teppanyaki; however, since it’s counter seating you inevitably sit quite close to other guests. If that isn’t your preference, I recommend choosing restaurant dining instead—the tables are spaced farther apart so other conversations don’t bother you. At first we weren’t sure what to expect from “French kaiseki,” since it’s not something we usually have—but it was excellent (a very happy surprise). The sauces and dashi were outstanding! The lightly salted shirasu rice porridge at breakfast was superb! The rolled omelet was also delicious—and I honestly wanted seconds of miso soup (laugh). Even when there was a small misunderstanding during our stay, the Four Seasons staff responded with such care that we almost felt sorry—but it became an especially memorable experience. We’re truly grateful to everyone at Four Seasons. All of the staff were kind as well, making our 2-night/3-day stay very comfortable. Our room with an open-air panoramic bath had futon bedding; we would be happy if one of the two rooms could be set up with beds. That said, the open-air bath was fantastic—no insects got in—and the view was exceptional. Overall—room quality, hospitality, meals included in our plan(s), and complimentary services—it felt like excellent value. A highly recommended inn whether you’re celebrating something special or not!

For a birthday celebration
From the moment you meet the shuttle bus driver, whose warm and pleasant service sets the tone, your enjoyable trip begins. This was our second stay, and just like last time, we truly appreciated the heartfelt hospitality. Last time we arrived late and missed out on the pancakes, but this time we were able to enjoy them fully and were very satisfied. We choose this property for its rare teppanyaki dinner option, and every time we are delighted with the meal. This visit also made for a wonderful birthday celebration. We hope you will continue to provide the same thoughtful and creative hospitality in the future.

It was great.
I finally got my revenge. Last time (December 2025), I didn’t get to try the tokoroten, so this time I came specifically for that (just kidding). From check-in to check-out, the hospitality was outstanding again. The staff were wonderful, and the sunrise from the open-air bath was perfectly timed—making for a truly relaxing stay. Thank you very much. One small thing: when the pancake service was offered after check-in, we were kept waiting at the restaurant entrance without any guidance. I’ll be back—next time for the steak.

Celebration Accommodation
Drawn by the name “Celebration Accommodation,” I chose this place to celebrate my birthday. At dinner, they surprised me with a confetti ball and a “Happy Birthday” song, and even a cake topped with sparklers—it made me truly happy. The teppanyaki course was outstanding. For breakfast, I chose the Western-style option and enjoyed an omelet and French toast cooked on the teppan. The drinks in the lounge were also wonderful, and everything made me feel indulged. It’s an Accommodation I’d love to return to again.

I visited for the first time to celebrate a birthday.
We visited to celebrate a birthday, and we were delighted by the sake barrel opening, photo session, and the celebratory cake during the meal. Most of all, we were happiest that all the staff personally said “Congratulations” to us. We have stayed at various Ryokan and had anniversaries celebrated before, but it is rare for staff to offer kind words each time—this became a truly memorable anniversary trip. If possible, it would have been nice to receive a commemorative photo in an inexpensive frame together with a photo of the Accommodation. Our travel plans are set through March, but we would like to visit again after that.

Welcome to Kichijo CAREN.
This was our second stay following our visit in March. Every time, both the meals and the hospitality leave us fully satisfied in both heart and stomach. The open view of Sagami Bay stretching across the entire window was also outstanding. From the spacious open-air 전망露天風呂 in our Room, we could even see the horizon, which was truly soothing. It was such a fulfilling stay that it hardly felt like just one night and two days. We would definitely like to visit again.

The Room is luxurious.
The Room even had a massage chair, and we were able to relax while watching videos on the large TV. The meals looked gorgeous and were very delicious. Since it was quiet after the summer holidays, the baths weren’t crowded, which we really appreciated. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

The view from the open-air bath is spectacular.
I stayed in a Room with a scenic-view bath. Soaking in the ocean-view bath, relaxing in the massage chair, and having a beer… it was the best! I also used the large public bath, and the view from the open-air bath overlooking Aomi was amazing. There were both hotter and warmer baths, so I took my time soaking in the warmer one while enjoying the scenery. For dinner we chose teppanyaki, and everything was delicious. The chef was very kind and considerate, which made it even more enjoyable. Breakfast the next day was Japanese-style and also excellent! Every meal was wonderful. With free-flowing hot spring water, incredible views, towels provided at the large public bath, delicious food, and such friendly staff, I’ve come to love Kichijo Karen even more. Thank you very much.

One-night trip for three people
The three of us stayed for one night with my 90-year-old mother. They helped us celebrate her 90th birthday. We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath at the observatory, and we were very satisfied with the hospitality. My mother also said it was a wonderful trip. We would love to stay again. Thank you very much.

A place to celebrate, and also to hold a memorial gathering.
I stayed for one night on the anniversary of my father’s passing. The hospitality was wonderful from check-in to check-out, and when I brought a photo of my father to breakfast, they prepared an offering meal for him. We were deeply moved and thanked them many times. The Room was Sara 507. It was a spacious Japanese-Western style Room. They told us we could freely drink everything in the refrigerator, which felt like a nice bonus. The chef in charge of the teppanyaki dinner and the chef in charge of the Western-style breakfast were both excellent. For dinner, they even served items not listed on the menu, and we left completely satisfied. From afternoon onward, there are various services depending on the time, so you can really enjoy yourself just within the Accommodation. I’m sure my father in heaven was happy as well. Thank you very much.

The best.
Relax in an Onsen in the mountains while gazing out at the sea. This location was simply unbeatable. And above all, the food was truly delicious! This time we enjoyed a French dinner. French cuisine at an Onsen Accommodation—more satisfying than we ever imagined. In the morning, it was a complete change to Japanese breakfast. The views, the Onsen, and the food—everything was exceptional. It was a luxurious time that left both our hearts and stomachs full.

We stayed here to celebrate a 70th birthday.
We arrived around 2:30 and enjoyed crepes and tea. It was a hot day and we were thirsty, so it was delicious in a cool place. At dinner, to celebrate the 70th birthday, celebratory sake and a ceremonial ball were prepared, and they also took photos for us. As a Diamond Member benefit, we received a bottle of wine and three chef’s recommendations as well, and we were completely full. The sun rose directly in front of our Room with a wonderful view, though it was a bit hot. Everyone was kind, and we had a very pleasant stay. The bath was slightly hot, so it would have been nice to have a regular electric fan.

A five-star Accommodation—except for one specific front desk staff member.
The stay itself was truly wonderful, and many aspects—meals, the Onsen, and service—were 5-star. However, the only major disappointment was the attitude of an older female front desk staff member (glasses, Ms. M). I have never felt this uncomfortable at an Accommodation before, so I am posting this in hopes of improvement. First, about the Shuttle Service: Although departure was scheduled for 15:00, we were kept waiting for a long time in the scorching heat. We were not allowed to wait inside the vehicle and had to stand outside with our luggage. We eventually departed around 15:15; I do not know whether they were waiting for other guests. What surprised me most was that there wasn’t even a single “Thank you for waiting.” It felt unacceptable for anyone working in hospitality. More disappointing than anything was the customer service from the older female front desk staff member (glasses, Ms. M). Right after check-in began, she said, “You have selected a slightly smaller Room,” even though we never asked for such a comment. Is it really necessary to speak that way to guests who are excited about their stay? Also, despite informing them at Reservation that it was my daughter’s birthday, she said something like, “I’m not sure whose birthday it is, but here is your Discount Coupon,” which shocked me. Shouldn’t it start with “Happy Birthday”? Even though the Shuttle Service delay was on the Accommodation’s side, while we were being escorted to our Room we were told in an odd manner: “We don’t have time now, so please have your welcome pancakes first.” We are not the reason there was no time. She kindly offered to take photos at first; however when returning my smartphone she handed it back as if tossing it with one hand—I was very surprised. Although we had already been told at check-in that dinner would be from 18:30 (and she had just handled our check-in), while we were waiting for transportation to Kuronegaiwa Onsen she suddenly came over and demanded in a strong tone: “What time is your dinner?!” I was astonished both by her tone and by her failure to confirm what had just been checked. In addition, with the back-of-house door behind reception left open—even in front of guests—staff spoke loudly among themselves about work matters and used overly casual language on phone calls. This felt extremely disappointing for what is positioned as a luxury Accommodation. All other staff members were truly wonderful. The Shuttle Service to Kuronegaiwa Onsen was great; welcome pancakes and drinks were excellent; and the courtyard atmosphere was fantastic. In the lounge you can choose your favorite teacup—a lovely touch—and even the sound design around the open-air bath area was impressive. The restaurant team’s hospitality was outstanding as well—and soaking in free-flowing natural hot spring water from its source was simply amazing.

At the very end
This is an Accommodation you can visit anytime. When we stayed last year, there was an attendant unlike any we had encountered before, which surprised us, so we mentioned it in the questionnaire. We were impressed by the prompt follow-up, including a letter of apology. This time, everything—from the pick-up at the station to check-in, guidance to our Room, and service at the restaurant for both breakfast and dinner—was simply excellent. As for the bath, although water is added to protect the piping, we thoroughly enjoyed free-flowing hot spring water with no circulation or disinfection. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. My wife and I even said to each other, “Last year was surprising, but this time was great,” and we wrote that in the Accommodation’s questionnaire as well. We sealed it and headed to check-out. There were two staff members at the desk: one was assisting another guest, while a man in a suit was flipping through documents. We stood waiting for a while (with staff seated and guests standing), but it looked like it would take some time. So I told the man in the suit that we were checking out (given the time of day, most people would be checking out). He told us to sit and wait. In the end, another staff member handled our check-out after some waiting. The man in a suit may have been someone senior within the Accommodation, but he did not assist guests or even say “thank you.” If he needed to do paperwork such as flipping through documents without attending to guests, I think he should do so in an office or another space out of sight rather than where guests can see him. There was no way to ask for our submitted questionnaire back to rewrite it; we simply proceeded to be driven to the station. Because of just one person’s behavior at the very end, our overall impression unfortunately declined.

Regret
When I arrived to stay that day, I found that duplicate Reservations had been made on IKYU and Yahoo. I was told there were two Reservations on IKYU, and I was asked to cancel one. After I canceled it, the coupons and discounts from the original booking were not applied, and I was charged a high Cancellation Fee. I can’t help wondering if something could have been done differently—I’m more upset than anything.

Heartwarming hospitality
We visited as a group of three, bringing my mother, who has recently become weaker in her legs, to celebrate my husband’s birthday. When we entered the Room, you brought us a chair with longer legs to make sitting down and standing up easier. At dinner, not only was the food wonderful, but you also sang a birthday song for us and even made a rose from a napkin—was it magic? At breakfast, the chef added extra flavor to the meal with enjoyable conversation. As we were leaving, the gentleman who told us the story of the crane at the main entrance—thank you for your wonderful hospitality throughout dinner and beyond. Chef Aodake! Next time I will make a Reservation for teppanyaki dinner. The senior attendant was also extremely kind to us. Thank you very much.

Mistake...
This was my second stay. At check-in, my name, Room number, and the celebration details were incorrect. The staff member only corrected the Room number. Also, the shower water pressure was weak, so I asked for an adjustment, but was told it could be handled by switching the showerhead setting. After using it, the water flow did not change, and I was dissatisfied because it didn’t feel like I could rinse properly. My first stay left a great impression and that’s why I returned, but this time was disappointing.

Wonderful Accommodation
I stay at various Accommodations, and this one truly felt like a great Accommodation. Thoughtful touches from the Accommodation could be felt throughout—ranging from small gestures to things that genuinely impressed me. I would like to stay in the same Room again. Some of the baths had great views, but they were not as large as other Accommodations I’ve stayed at. The lounge area was not very spacious either, and you have to use stairs to reach the baths, which worried me at first—but the steps were low, so it was fine. It was also my first time trying teppanyaki. I wanted to arrive by 3:30 p.m. to have pancakes, so I managed to make it in time. It became a wonderful one-night, two-day trip. The staff were also wonderful. I plan to Reserve again someday.

The best of both a Hotel and an Onsen Ryokan
Highly recommended for anyone celebrating a special occasion! It was my companion’s first time at this Accommodation, and they were amazed by all the thoughtful hospitality. The only downside was that the stairs to the large public bath were a bit tough. Since the bath in the Room is also an Onsen, relaxing and enjoying your time in the Room is a great option too. This is an Accommodation I’d love to visit again anytime, in any season.

A Trip to Izu for the First Time in Two Years
We stayed at this Accommodation on our first trip to Izu in two years. We already knew from the Reviews that it was highly regarded, but the Onsen, the meals, and the thoughtful hospitality of all the staff exceeded our expectations. The Onsen must have suited her particularly well—my wife, who usually only bathes once, went in several times. For dinner we chose the French kaiseki course; it made wonderful use of local ingredients and was truly delicious. The splendid alfonsino was excellent both as sashimi and steamed wrapped in carta fata. The Amagi venison roti was also a memorable dish that really captured the local character. We don’t usually have a regular place we return to, but this was such a comfortable Accommodation that we’d love to stay again and again. To everyone on the team—especially the Shuttle Service driver—thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

Celebration Accommodation
We were treated to a variety of thoughtful celebratory touches that truly lived up to the title. The hot water was pleasantly lukewarm—perfect for relaxing and leisurely gazing at the sea—but the Accommodation had planned so many services and activities that we found ourselves moving around quite a bit to enjoy them all (laugh). It was so full of experiences that we wondered if it was really okay to receive this much. The pancake afternoon tea at check-in was delicious. We chose the French course for dinner, and it was an enjoyable Japanese-Western fusion. Japanese cuisine is something you can have at any Ryokan, so next time we’ll be torn between teppanyaki and French.

Hospitality Expert
I visited for my birthday. It started with pancakes, then sparkling wine on the terrace while admiring the hydrangeas, and after the Onsen, a draft beer and tokoroten. I was already very satisfied, but dinner at the teppanyaki restaurant was outstanding. The spiny lobster, abalone, and sirloin practically melted in my mouth. Even after dinner there was plenty more—delicious cocktails in the cocktail lounge, followed by late-night sweets while reading magazines. This time I indulged and chose a Plan that included eel for lunch the next day. The hospitality was beyond anything I could imagine—I went home more than 1 kg heavier.
