    A Private Retreat in Sengokuhara

    The bamboo grove view from our Room was wonderful and full of charm—it felt like being in the world of The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. The Onsen in our Room was spacious and relaxing, and we enjoyed it again and again. We also used the private Onsen. The open-air bath was great as well. Above all, dinner was the highlight. One delicious, dashi-rich dish after another came out, each made with care. The staff member with a beginner badge who explained the dishes was very pleasant and worked so hard. The Room showed a bit of age, but it seemed well maintained. The bed was wide and we slept soundly. All of the staff were wonderful. We also enjoyed solving the mystery quiz at dinner together, even though we had to think hard about it. Thank you for the melon as well. We also received Diamond member benefits. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

    I thoroughly enjoyed the Onsen.

    With only a small number of Rooms, we were able to enjoy the Facility without much contact with other guests. As for the baths, we were able to take our time and enjoy all of them—the private open-air bath, the in-room open-air bath, and the in-room indoor bath. We’d also like to try the stone sauna next time. There were hours when we could use the lounge for beer, alcohol, coffee, and more. Although we couldn’t make it for cocktail time, we still made good use of it. It would be even better if the lounge stayed open a little later. Every dish had a gentle flavor and there was an impressive variety; everything was delicious and beautifully presented, so we enjoyed it with our eyes as well. Being able to choose three desserts ourselves was also great. Because we could dine at a relaxed pace, the portions felt just right and everything was very tasty. The Room was so clean that it didn’t feel like 15 years had passed at all, and we stayed very comfortably. If I had to mention one thing, it would be that the wash area was a bit small. We also appreciated the thoughtful touches, such as having separate towels prepared for the open-air bath and the indoor bath. We would definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much.

    Japanese Auberge

    This was my second stay, and I was able to relax deeply in the calm room. The spa treatment I tried for the first time was excellent, and the cuisine was refined and truly delicious. I also received a souvenir, and I am very satisfied. I would love to stay again.

    From the Room before renovation

    Let’s avoid using the word “auberge.” At first glance, the presentation and commentary focused on the cuisine, but I couldn’t tell what I was eating in terms of ingredients or seasoning. The Room and bath felt like they were from before the renovation of the sauna-equipped Room, and it was like a Business Hotel. As a Diamond member, I visit Izu once a month, but for the price this was the lowest level. However, the staff were pleasant, including their smiles.

    Enjoy a Hokkaido-inspired atmosphere and a mystery-solving adventure.

    On a whim, we looked for an Accommodation we could quickly get to around Atami or Hakone, and made a Reservation here for the first time in 10 years. The food was wonderful back then as well, and right after that stay we even visited one of Noguchi Kanko’s Accommodations in Hokkaido. But with so many new places opening in Hakone, this one had slipped down our list. This time, we were reminded all over again how delicious the cuisine is. The Onsen and the puzzle-solving adventure were also a big hit—both my mother and I were completely satisfied. Drinks from the lounge can be taken back to your Room, too. Best of all, we were told that first-floor Rooms can have in-room dining, so it was great to relax at our own pace. The warm hospitality made us feel truly comfortable, and we’d love to return again soon for the outstanding cuisine that beautifully blends Hokkaido and Hakone flavors. We’re also looking forward to future adventure programs.

    A premier Hakone accommodation that stays true to its unique style

    As a Hotel run by a company based in Hokkaido, you can enjoy ingredients from Hokkaido and buy local souvenirs. Even in Hakone, where many luxury Hotels and Ryokan are located, it stands out with its unique character, which makes the stay enjoyable. The Room is spacious and luxurious; in particular, the in-room bath has excellent water quality, is generously sized, and is comfortable to use anytime—nothing to complain about. However, I deducted one star because the space for making tea in the Room felt a bit cramped, and the coffee machine in the lounge couldn’t make drinks like café au lait or café mocha. This time I also enjoyed the events during meals. It’s a top-class Accommodation that makes you want to come back for its fun atmosphere and individuality.

    I was able to refresh and recharge.

    Although this is a small Accommodation with only 10 rooms, I was surprised that so many staff members came out to welcome us despite our slightly early arrival. Throughout our stay, everyone’s service was wonderful and full of genuine hospitality. The Onsen water quality was also excellent, and since we had a Plan that included an esthetic treatment, we were able to feel truly refreshed. Dinner was a great memory as well—we enjoyed delicious dishes while having fun solving puzzles. The only slight disappointment was that breakfast felt a bit cool, so we couldn’t fully enjoy it at its best. Even in summer, we still want meals served freshly made and piping hot. That said, in addition to the melon prize from the puzzle-solving activity, we also received sparkling wine and sweets as Diamond benefits, plus more souvenirs than we could carry—overall it was a very satisfying stay. We would love to visit again in a different season. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

    We were finally able to stay at the Accommodation.

    My husband’s work kept him very busy, so we had to make and cancel our Reservation several times, but we finally managed to stay. Dinner, featuring dishes centered around dashi broth, was very satisfying. However, the meat sauce was a bit sweet for our taste. We enjoyed the in-room Onsen and sauna. One request: an magnifying mirror. The Room mirror was too far away, making it difficult for me to apply makeup due to presbyopia. I’d like to stay again in a different season with my daughter.

    Savor the Dashi

    Following the spring menu, we visited again looking forward to the summer menu. There was also a fun quiz event, and everything was both enjoyable and delicious. We could sense how challenging things must be with rising ingredient costs, but that signature broth is still as wonderful as ever. In fact, this time the meal started with the broth right away—and it completely won us over (laughs). For our family, it almost feels like we come just to enjoy that broth. The bath was also very relaxing, and we enjoyed it many times. We’ll be back again in search of that broth—thank you in advance for your continued hospitality.

    This is already the second time this year.

    This is already my second stay this year, and I’d love to visit again in early autumn. The staff’s courteous service is excellent. The head chef’s dedication to dashi really shows, and the food is delicious. If time allows, I’d like to come many more times. Thank you again.

    Remembering how deli...

    Remembering how delicious the food was when I previously visited with my daughter, my spouse and I returned this time. We arrived by car a little before 3:00 p.m., but many staff members greeted us with warm smiles, which was very reassuring. All of the staff were wonderful, and both the Facility and our Room were clean and comfortable. Dining in the stillness, with only the sound of evening cicadas in the background, each dish was thoughtfully crafted and looked as beautiful as it tasted. We were also delighted by an extra chef’s special that wasn’t on the menu—it felt truly heartfelt. As a history enthusiast, I signed up for the “Mystery-Solving Adventure: Discover History and Stories.” I didn’t feel much of a historical element, but solving puzzles while enjoying our meal was more than enjoyable. Even though we stayed at a great value using IKYU Earn Points, we were also given prizes, which made us feel almost undeserving. This is an Accommodation I would definitely recommend to others. I’d love to visit again in another season. Thank you for such a wonderful time.

    I had a pleasant stay.

    This was our second stay. A unique Accommodation in Hakone that highlights Hokkaido. The meals are beautifully presented and feel like an auberge. For the meat dish only, the sauce tasted a bit sweet for our family, so we thought it would be nice if rock salt could be provided as well so guests can adjust to their preference. We also appreciated the chef’s special off-menu dish at both breakfast and dinner. The dessert afternoon tea tray is wonderfully presented and very photogenic. This time there was a puzzle-solving game, and it was a lot of fun. I won’t spoil it, but the reward you receive after solving it is very luxurious, so I highly recommend everyone try it. We continued to enjoy it deliciously even after returning home. As for the Room, other Reviews mentioned tatami mats and carpeting, but perhaps improvements were made—there were no issues at all, and we stayed comfortably. An Accommodation we would definitely like to visit again.

    It was very comfortable.

    The Room’s bath was spacious and very relaxing. Since I’m not good with insects, I’m glad I chose a Room with an observation bath rather than an open-air bath. The meals were also delicious. I could tell the younger staff were working very hard. I would definitely like to stay again.

    An Accommodation Featuring Signature Dashi Broth

    We stayed here for the second night of our Hakone trip. Thank you for accommodating our early arrival. Check-in was done in our Room. The Room was spacious and relaxing, with an open-air bath, an indoor bath, and a wide range of amenities. Smoking is only permitted in one designated area downstairs. The lounge offers complimentary drinks, and a beer after the bath was exceptional! Meals are served in a private dining room, featuring a Japanese-Western fusion that is as enjoyable to look at as it is to eat. The staff kindly explained each dish every time it was served. There is also a treasure-hunt game, which made dining even more fun. Our prize was one whole musk melon. Rice is served in an earthenware pot, with different varieties used for dinner and breakfast. Overall, we could truly feel the dedication of everyone involved in the cuisine, and we were able to enjoy a wonderful night. We would like to express our sincere thanks again to everyone involved in the Shuttle Service, cleaning, serving meals, and more.

    Dinner comes with fun, delightful touches!

    The dinner hospitality was truly memorable. The treasure chest puzzle made it enjoyable beyond just the meal. The staff were also very attentive—thank you. Since many Accommodations nowadays offer well-equipped hair dryers and amenities, the amenities here felt a little lacking.

    I had very high expectations, but...

    I had very high expectations, but unfortunately it was disappointing, just as the recent Reviews said. Disappointing points: 1. When arriving by car, the staff showed no willingness to provide valet service. They may not want to handle luxury cars, but this is the first time I have experienced this at an Accommodation at this price point. 2. The staff member who escorted us to the guest room ended up forgetting our requests and seemed more focused on promoting items from the shop. It would be better to provide a detailed explanation of the Room—for example, the types of pillows available. 3. In both the Room and bath, there was not an abundant flow of hot spring water (I understand this is for resource conservation), the water was lukewarm, the outdoor shower could not be used (with no explanation), and the bed felt a bit cheap. The Room is old but kept clean. 4. Most disappointing of all: for an auberge, where dining is key, the food—especially raw items—was very poor. The tuna was extremely sinewy, the sashimi did not seem fresh, and the sauce for the main meat dish was different from what I expected. Please work on improvements going forward. Thank you very much.

    The staff’s hospitality was outstanding!

    After arriving and checking in from the Room, it was nice to relax in the lounge. The Room felt a bit dated, and the tatami flooring was uneven underfoot, which was slightly uncomfortable, but I was satisfied with the semi-open-air bath in the Room, where I could unwind with the scent of sulfur. The food was tasty, but perhaps my expectations were too high based on past memories; everything was served in small portions, so I went to bed hungry and couldn’t sleep well, which was disappointing. Breakfast included many cold items and left me feeling chilled, so I wished there had been more warm dishes. All of the staff greeted me with a smile whenever we passed, and their pleasant hospitality soothed me—thank you very much.

    An Accommodation Where You Can Enjoy Great Meals

    We visited for the first time on our wedding anniversary trip. You could really feel their desire to make guests enjoy the meal, and it turned into a wonderful dinner. Everything was explained carefully, and our questions were answered with great care as well. Dinner is served at 5:30 PM or 7:00 PM. If you’d like to use the lounge’s complimentary drinks after dinner, choosing the 5:30 PM seating allows you to enjoy unlimited wine, craft beer, whisky, and soft drinks in the lounge until 9:30 PM after your meal. We also heard that cut fruit is available in the lounge from 7:30 PM. Since we had dinner at 7:00 PM, we used the lounge before our meal. We would love to visit again in a different season.

    A Wellness Trip for the Rainy Season

    I stayed at this Accommodation because I wanted to experience a Noguchi Kanko Group property and also relax my body, which had been worn out by the temperature swings. We were very satisfied with the lounge drink service, the pleasant service from all staff members, the Onsen bath in our Room (even more spacious than it looked in photos), the well-stocked amenities, and above all, the creative Japanese cuisine that made great use of dashi broth. As a couple who enjoy dining with sake, we were also happy to see such a wide selection of sake on the menu. And the fresh sea urchin we ordered as an extra was unbelievably delicious! The meals were excellent, making full use of their strengths as a Hokkaido company with its own farm and abundant ingredients. The flavors and presentation were thoughtfully crafted, making it an enjoyable course. If I may make one request: it would be nice to have a chair or something like a beanbag cushion for sitting in the Japanese-style room. As we get older, standing up from floor cushions has become difficult... We would love to visit again in another season to enjoy different seasonal ingredients. Thank you very much.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

    The Room we stayed in this time was called “Nanakamado.” The open-air bath in the basement was also wonderful. Of course, the cuisine was beautifully presented and thoughtfully prepared, and everything was delicious. The service was excellent, and we had a very pleasant stay. It was my first time trying the rice served at dinner (“Fukkurinko”); it had a nice sweetness and tasted great. The Furano beef roast was especially delicious. One small disappointment was that I wished the towels in the Room were of slightly better quality. Overall, it was a perfect Accommodation.

    Third stay this year

    Thank you once again to all the staff for your heartfelt hospitality. To the Head Chef, I enjoyed every last bite, starting with the very first broth. Your creative and thoughtful summer dishes moved me deeply—surprise, emotion, gratitude, and happiness all came rushing over me. Please forgive me for not finding the right words. I simply wanted to say: I have come again this time as well. I will make another Reservation.

    No repeat stays.

    I don’t usually leave a Review, but I have some thoughts about this stay. I’ve stayed at many Accommodations in Hakone, but at this price range (around 100,000 yen), I don’t feel this Facility is worth returning for. The photos on IKYU are beautifully taken, but the actual Room feels quite old. There are stains on the walls, and the old carpet in the Room was so unpleasant that I hesitated to step on it. Since it’s an open-air bath, I understand that some insects may get in—this is true at any Ryokan. However, during this stay there were many insects floating in the bathwater, and even though we came for the Onsen, it made me not want to use it. (Normally I would use an in-room open-air bath at least three times during a stay, but this time I only used it once—this was a first for me.) The lobby is clean and nice, but while the entrance door to the Room looks new, once inside you start wondering if this really matches a room in this price range. The only saving grace was the food (especially dinner), which was truly delicious. Still, if I had known about the condition of these Facilities beforehand, I would not have stayed. I’m extremely disappointed.

    Unfortunately.

    The trip we had been looking forward to was disappointing because of the rain. But the weather can’t be helped. So we had high hopes for the meals. The tuna sashimi was full of sinew. We also looked forward to the main meat dish. The staff explained that it had been cooked at a low temperature for 8 hours to make it tender (which raised our expectations). However, it was a letdown—so tough we couldn’t chew through it. Was it 8 minutes rather than 8 hours? My wife was especially looking forward to the sea urchin, but that was disappointing as well. Dinner was one disappointment after another. Breakfast, however, was delicious. The staff were very kind and took good care of us. I’m sorry to say this, but I don’t think we will visit again.

    Exceptional Cuisine

    We stayed as a family of five, including two elderly mothers. Thanks to the wonderful hospitality, we were all able to relax and enjoy our time together. The meals were especially outstanding—everything was delicious, and everyone in our family was very satisfied. Although it can’t be helped, it would be even better if the property were a bit more barrier-free.

    A Cozy Accommodation

    We stayed at Nanakamado for two nights and three days. The service, Room, and meals were all excellent. The food was not only delicious but also beautifully presented. For me, the portions were a bit too large, so I couldn’t fully enjoy the last part of the meal, which was a shame. I really wanted to relax in the lounge after dinner, but I was too full and had to give up. Everyone on the staff was very kind and attentive. The Room is spacious and relaxing, and the private open-air bath is wonderful—the post-bath lounging area is especially comfortable. That said, it’s surrounded by nature, so you may see some insects. If that bothers you, please keep this in mind. Within walking distance are Hakone Botanical Garden of Wetlands, the René Lalique Museum, and Hakone Glass no Mori Museum—perfect not only for a quiet stay but also as a base for sightseeing. We’d love to visit again in a different season.

    An auberge with the scent of Hokkaido

    1-minute walk from the bus stop. Free drinks from 3:00 PM to 9:30 PM. A convenience shop open 24 hours. Well-stocked amenities. Premium coffee you can grind yourself. An open-air bath in your Room plus a free private reservable open-air bath. A varied dinner and breakfast, plus an extra dish from the head chef. Ingredients sourced from Hokkaido. Wonderful hospitality from the staff. It was an outstanding Accommodation with some touches that reminded us of traveling in Hokkaido.
