    An adults-only accommodation with excellent cuisine

    A quiet, adults-only Accommodation. With only a few Rooms, the large public bath felt almost private, and I was able to relax at my own pace. As this Accommodation is known for its cuisine, every dish was carefully prepared, and I enjoyed everything from appetizers to dessert. The rice was also delicious—I couldn’t help having seconds. The proprietress and everyone else were so kind that even traveling alone felt soothing. I’d love to visit again.

    The meals were delicious.

    This was my first time staying here. Just as the Reviews said, the meals were very delicious. Both breakfast and dinner left me completely full. Last month I stayed at a Ryokan in Yugawara and paid around 90,000 yen for two people, but the food was terrible, so I had a lot of concerns about staying at a Ryokan for the first time again—however, I was very satisfied with the meals this time. The only disappointing point is that the Room layout isn’t really the kind that people tend to prefer these days. It is well maintained, but it still felt a bit dated. We stayed in Room 202 (Tsubaki). Although the Ryokan is on higher ground, it’s surrounded by private homes, so you can clearly see neighboring houses from the window. If you look farther out you can see mountains. The baths were almost always private; we never once ran into other guests. However, as mentioned above, because there are houses nearby, the open-air bath has partitions and feels somewhat enclosed. That said, I do think it’s worth staying here for the food alone, so I’d like to visit again when my schedule allows.

    It was a wonderful Accommodation.

    The meals, hospitality, Room, views, and bath—everything made for a wonderful stay. I have never had rice this delicious before. The tea was also excellent, and the grilled dried horse mackerel at breakfast was outstanding. In any case, I’m adding this Accommodation to my top five places I want to stay again. I hope to visit again someday. Thank you very much.

    A relaxing and soothing stay.

    This was my first visit, and it was truly soothing. I think this is a wonderful Accommodation with attentive care in every detail. First, the water sprinkled around the entrance gave me a sense of how clean the Accommodation is. I was welcomed with smiles, the indoor slippers were neatly arranged and easy to choose, and the floors were spotless—everything made me happy from the moment I arrived. There were also beautiful flowers arranged in my Room. The small bonsai in the restroom was adorable as well. Everything was well maintained throughout, and I could really feel how much they want guests to be comfortable. The hot water was genuinely relaxing, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Since it is an Accommodation with only five Rooms, I didn’t overlap with other guests and felt as if I had it all to myself. The in-Room meals were carefully prepared one by one, full of sincerity. The dashi broth in particular was outstanding. When entering the breakfast venue, I was impressed when what looked like a manual sliding door became an “automatic door” operated by the proprietress and staff. And I was also moved when the head chef personally served us dashi as hospitality. This is a truly heartwarming Accommodation in every way. I would love to visit again in another season.     A calm, refined Accommodation for adults

    This Accommodation is located where the surroundings gradually become quieter as you head from Yugawara Station toward Oku-Yugawara. The Accommodation itself has a calm, refined atmosphere, and lovely flowers are modestly arranged throughout the building. The peaceful quiet made it easy to relax at a leisurely pace. From the Room window, it was beautiful to see the faint evening sun reflecting on the mountain ridgelines. The baths were kept very clean, and we enjoyed listening to birds singing in the trees. The cuisine was gentle Japanese fare that made full use of quality ingredients, and everything was truly delicious. We were told that even the head of the dried fish can be eaten because it is carefully grilled over low heat. Before breakfast, there was a dashi service that felt wonderful for the body as well. At departure, not only the staff and proprietress but even the head chef came to see us off, which warmly reminded us how everyone works together to care for this Accommodation. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

    First-time guest

    The Onsen water felt gentle and soothing, so I soaked three times. Even afterward, I didn’t feel tired. The young male attendant’s service was outstanding, and his warm smile was very comforting. The meal was delicious, especially the sashimi and rice. It seemed like Yamagata rice—the grains were perfectly distinct. If there is one area for improvement: the timing between each dish being served with in-Room dining. At times there was a 20-minute gap; a 10-minute interval would be preferable. It was also disappointing to see a spider web in the corner of the first-floor hallway. Still, overall I would rate it 4 out of 5. I’d like to stay again in winter. Please keep up the friendly service with that great smile.

    A lovely, welcoming Accommodation with a warm atmosphere

    This is a wonderful Accommodation with thoughtful attention to detail. Everything is spotless, including the windows. Fresh flowers are arranged throughout, and even the toilet paper feels premium. All the staff are genuinely hospitable, making it a very comfortable stay. The food is beautifully presented and delicious in every dish. Even when you think you might be too full to eat more, the “Glacier Rice” is so good you’ll want another bite. The menu changes every month, too. I definitely plan to return. Thank you very much.

    Thoughtful attention to detail

    From the delicious welcome tea and traditional Japanese sweets to every dish served, everything was excellent. The flavors were gentle yet rich with dashi. It was my first time being served freshly made ichiban dashi at breakfast—wonderful. The toothbrushes, toilet paper, tea bags, and other amenities were all high quality.

    The food was excellent.

    I stayed one night in Oku-Atagawa and visited the next day. After reading the Reviews, I wanted to visit and made a Reservation once, but due to circumstances I had to Cancel the Reservation. It was exactly as described in the Reviews. The building was stylish, like a traditional restaurant. Everything—from the Room to the baths—was spotless and beautifully maintained. The cuisine I had been looking forward to was lightly seasoned yet had outstanding dashi, and the ingredients were excellent; I truly think the chef’s skill is exceptional. At mealtimes, we were served by the proprietress and a very handsome gentleman. I visit various Accommodations every month, including luxury Ryokan, and I felt the food here was among the very best. Sorry for my poor writing. I genuinely loved it. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

    Traveling solo as a woman, I wanted an Accommodation where I could spend time quietly and enjoy delicious meals, so I stayed here this time—and it was absolutely the right choice. Each dish was prepared with such care, and I ate in amazement at how delicious everything was. The tuna eaten with egg-yolk soy sauce and the gently sweet Glacier Rice were especially memorable; every dish stayed with me, and whenever I think back, I find myself wanting to eat them again. The proprietress was also very kind, and thanks to her thoughtful attention to detail, I was able to relax in comfort and feel completely at ease during my quiet stay. The Room has large windows, and the view of lush greenery is truly soothing. It rained throughout my stay so the weather wasn’t on my side, but the slightly dim atmosphere of the Room felt calm in its own way. Sitting by a slightly open window, listening to the rain while looking outside felt like it brought my mind back into balance. As this Accommodation hosts only five groups per day, the atmosphere inside was very peaceful. The weather made it especially quiet this time, but I really appreciated being able to enjoy the Onsen and time in my Room without worrying about others around me. With a typhoon and earthquakes occurring close together there were moments that made me uneasy, but both the proprietress and the chef checked on me with such genuine care that I could stay relaxed until the very end. The food, the Room, and everyone’s character were all wonderful—this was a warm Accommodation where even a solo traveler can truly unwind. They showed such kindness right up until departure; it became an unforgettable trip. I’m so glad I decided to go. I would love to visit again.

    All requirements are met.

    We stayed in the Sakura Room. We were very satisfied with the Room size and amenities. We stayed with our elderly parents. For dinner served in the Room, we truly appreciated that hot dishes were brought while still hot. The seasoning was also excellent—dashi-forward, not heavy, and wonderful overall. We would like to visit again.

    In a calm setting throughout the Accommodation, it was especially appealing to be able to enjoy the Onsen from check-in to check-out without worrying about time.     The accommodation was clean, and the garden was beautiful. The service was also polite. However, upon entering the room, I noticed the sound of the automatic door in the hallway, as well as car engine noises from outside. It seems that soundproof glass is not used. The disappointing part was the meals. The simmered dried daikon radish served as an appetizer and at breakfast had a strange taste. The simmered dish at dinner was the most delicious, but I had higher expectations for seafood—it turned out to be average. For the price paid, the meal quality felt underwhelming. On a positive note, the onsen was very relaxing and made it an enjoyable trip overall.

    Rooms close to the large public bath are convenient and ideal.

    The food is delicious. The kaiseki cuisine has a simple appearance without much creativity, but its simplicity and taste are excellent. It feels homely, possibly because it is family-run. Walking from the bus stop might be difficult, so taking a taxi is recommended. For those with chemical sensitivities, ultra-mild cases may find it possible to stay here; however, those with severe allergies to anti-mold or insect-repellent agents used on tatami mats might find it challenging. The room closest to the large public bath has one direction for windows that can be opened. If you don't mind leaving the door slightly open on the opposite side of the window, there will be good airflow. I hope this information helps anyone considering staying here. Overall, I found this accommodation satisfactory and had no major complaints—it’s a good place to stay!

    I was drawn to stay here by the reviews I read beforehand, and it exceeded my expectations, leaving me extremely satisfied. The room was impeccably clean and filled with a sense of freshness, adorned with beautiful fresh flowers. High-quality traditional sweets were provided as a welcome treat, reflecting the thoughtful hospitality of the accommodation. At check-in, when I mentioned that my wife, who has a chronic condition, finds overly soft futons uncomfortable even in tatami rooms, they immediately brought in a bed for her. This thoughtful gesture made it much easier for her to rest comfortably. With only five guest rooms available, the service was attentive and personalized. The bath was always available for private use, allowing us to enjoy it luxuriously at our own pace. As for meals—while I expected them to be decent based on the highly-rated reviews—they surpassed all expectations once again! The selection of sake was also carefully curated and delightful. This has become an accommodation we would love to visit again!

    A Moment of Relaxation

    I have stayed here several times. I am always satisfied and feel relaxed. The food is delicious, and the Onsen is wonderful. It’s quiet, and I love being able to spend time at a leisurely pace. What I particularly like are the incredibly tasty rice, how it doesn’t feel heavy even if you eat a lot, the beautiful tableware, and the thoughtful care of the staff.     Thank you very much for your hospitality. I had heard this was a gourmet accommodation, but I never imagined the meals would be this delicious. Unlike typical Onsen Ryokan cuisine, the heartfelt dishes prepared by the chef were truly satisfying. I am also grateful for all the various services provided. Each dish was served with great attention to detail—warm dishes on warm plates and cold desserts on chilled ones—with tableware carefully chosen to match the food and season. The presentation was stunning, making it a feast for both the palate and eyes. I was surprised when an entire scorpionfish was served, but I enjoyed every bite without feeling heavy afterward, and by morning my appetite had fully returned. My American companion also thoroughly enjoyed the warm hospitality and cuisine, rediscovering Japan's charm in the process. The room was clean, and the bath temperature just right—very relaxing. I am especially thankful for the thoughtful care of your wonderful hostess (Okami). At checkout, we were even treated to a commemorative photo featuring beautiful autumn leaves as well as some delicious Yugawara mandarins as souvenirs. This cozy and homey accommodation is one I would love to visit again someday. Thank you so much for everything!

    The hospitality is excellent.

    This was my first stay at this accommodation, which is about 30 years old. While the rooms do not have private bathrooms and the age of the building is noticeable, everything inside, including the large public bath, is impeccably clean. Fresh flower arrangements are displayed throughout, creating a pleasant atmosphere. Despite my need for a low-sodium diet due to a chronic condition, they were able to accommodate my dietary requirements. The staff provided excellent service, and the hostess in particular was very attentive to details. Although amenities like facial cleansers and skincare products were not individually packaged, different brands were thoughtfully provided in both the large public bath and rooms. I personally found their hairbrush very easy to use (I forgot to bring my own hairbrush and skincare products this time, so it was a great help). On the downside, all hallways in this facility are outdoor corridors. Stepping out of your room means facing summer heat or winter cold directly. On the day of our stay, it suddenly became chilly with rain falling as well; just wearing a light jacket felt insufficient when walking along these corridors to reach the large public bath in the morning. As colder seasons approach further ahead—requiring coats simply for accessing baths—it might feel inconvenient honestly speaking! Upgrading facilities by adding glass enclosures would be highly appreciated. Lastly—and perhaps common across many onsen ryokans—the dinner took too long at around 2 hours 30 minutes despite being carefully prepared dishes served beautifully! For someone impatient like me personally though such extended dining duration felt slightly burdensome overall!

    Enjoyed warm hospitality.

    We stayed for one night to celebrate our anniversary. Prior to our stay, when confirming dietary restrictions over the phone, they also kindly asked if it was a special occasion. Upon mentioning it was our anniversary, they responded very warmly. The room was clean, and the onsen water was excellent. The meals were particularly outstanding—not overly extravagant but filled with gentle flavors that truly touched the heart. Each dish was served with detailed explanations, and the head chef spoke with us in a friendly manner while the hostess greeted us with a constant smile throughout our stay. Thanks to everyone at the accommodation, we had an unforgettable time filled with smiles and are deeply grateful for their hospitality. Staying here on such a special day turned out to be an excellent choice. If I may add one suggestion, it would be wonderful if the amenities were slightly more extensive.

    The meals were absolutely delicious!

    Overall, it was a very enjoyable experience. Being able to use the Onsen even at night allowed for a relaxing stay. However, as the entrance is closed during nighttime, smokers might find it slightly inconvenient since smoking outside is not possible. That said, the accommodation was very quiet and peaceful, making it an ideal environment for non-smokers and younger guests to feel comfortable. (If there had been guidance about the alcohol in the refrigerator, I think I could have enjoyed my stay even more.) The meals were particularly impressive; each dish was carefully prepared with beautiful presentation and exquisite taste. The view from the room was also wonderful, and I am grateful for having spent such a tranquil time there. The staff's warm hospitality made this accommodation truly special, and I would love to visit again.

    The comfort of returning to Grandma's house in the countryside

    It was a wonderful accommodation. The staff and the head chef were very attentive. Thank you for accommodating my daughter's whims. The meals were delightful, especially the fish dishes, which I hadn't enjoyed in a long time. The rice and miso soup were exceptionally delicious—so much so that even my daughter, who usually doesn't eat rice, asked for seconds. Breakfast was warm and flawless as well. The accommodation is compact, and the room wasn't particularly spacious, but everything was kept clean throughout. We stayed during summer and were concerned about insects, but there were no issues at all. The bath was also excellent; it made my skin feel smooth. My daughter even mentioned that her acne improved after using it. It’s been a while since I’ve wanted to revisit a place so much—it truly was a comfortable accommodation. Thank you very much!

    An accommodation you'd want to visit again

    I took a weekday off and decided to stay with my elderly parents to celebrate my mother's birthday. We wanted a relaxing time, so we chose this small accommodation with natural hot spring baths. Based on reviews, we took a taxi from the station, which was definitely the right choice due to the steep slope leading up to the accommodation. The accommodation was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and meticulously maintained, making our stay very pleasant. Beyond the facilities, what stood out most was the exceptional hospitality of the staff. They provided flexible and personalized service rather than following a standard manual approach. Since my mother has knee issues, we requested dining at a table instead of in our room. We enjoyed our meal in the dining area while watching the evening scenery. The dishes were elaborate and thoughtfully prepared, accompanied by detailed explanations from staff. It made us want to return during another season just for their wonderful cuisine. The meal took about two hours; however, as my elderly parents started feeling sleepy towards the end, it seemed possible to request faster service if needed. Please note that there is no elevator at this accommodation; you will need to use stairs with about 10 steps up or down at times. However, there are handrails available which allowed my mother to manage them slowly but without issue. The next morning, even the head chef came out to see us off and kindly took photos for us—making it a memorable celebration day for our family. My mother mentioned wanting to come back again someday; I’ll work hard so that we can visit again soon!

On IKYU.com, it was mentioned that there was "no shampoo or conditioner," but when I visited, they were provided in the Onsen area!
