    A Simple and Serene Accommodation Offering Hospitality

    A luxurious Ryokan, but... Despite traveling from afar with high expectations, I was left feeling underwhelmed. First, the front desk service was very indifferent, offering no advice on sightseeing. Unless we asked questions ourselves, there was no guidance provided. The lounge lacked any drink service and the sense of hospitality was almost nonexistent. After finishing our meal, we were directed straight back to our Room without any effort to create a lingering atmosphere or memorable experience—it all felt like a mechanical process. The private bath we had been looking forward to felt no different from an ordinary Room bath. It left us wondering if this could really be called "private." There was absolutely no sense of exclusivity. As for the kaiseki cuisine that should have been the highlight—it lacked both visual and flavorful surprises. There were no creative touches that made us wonder "What is this?" Everything tasted quite ordinary and predictable upon trying it. Local ingredients unique to the area were also scarce in the dishes served. Unfortunately, what I had hoped for—a "memorable experience" at a high-end Ryokan—was nowhere to be found during this trip.

    The meals and the room's bath were excellent.

    Thank you for your hospitality. We traveled by rental car from Akita Station. The Room was spacious and comfortable. The Akita Komachi rice was delicious, and we ate too much!

    Quiet and Relaxing Accommodation

    We went on a trip as a couple. After enjoying an incredibly delicious dinner, I felt slightly heavy in the stomach the next morning and couldn’t finish my breakfast. A kind female staff member noticed and expressed her concern, even offering some medicine. Fortunately, my stomach settled down, and thanks to the delicious porridge, we were able to continue our journey to our next destination! Thank you for your warm words of care. We look forward to visiting again in better health!

    Private open-air bath with exceptional hot spring quality!

    Chasing the last cherry blossoms, we arrived in Kakunodate. This beautiful accommodation is located just where you hope you're on the right path. The highlight is the private open-air onsen with natural hot spring water directly from the source. The silky alkaline water quality rivals that of Gero Onsen and is truly exceptional. (Reservation required: 30 minutes per room) A memorable moment was seeing a rainbow from our room. However, there are some points to note. Unfortunately, the water quality of the open-air bath attached to our room felt entirely different. Dinner was served course by course as "kuchikiri," but apart from a hot pot cooked at the table, other dishes seemed pre-prepared. Portions were adequate, and the menu showed thoughtful creativity. The facility and rooms were clean with modern design elements, including Netflix-compatible TVs. However, since seating in the living area consisted of floor cushions and bedding was traditional futon style, it was slightly challenging to get up for us personally. While some may prefer this setup, we would have liked a room with a sofa and bed instead. If you prefer beds over futons, it’s recommended to make this request in advance if possible!

    It was a wonderful stay.

    The cherry blossoms were far from full bloom, which was a bit disappointing, but we spent the middle day of our 2-night stay relaxing indoors. The room bath and open-air bath had wonderful water. The sound of the flowing water from the room bath was designed not to be heard in the room, allowing for a peaceful sleep. All the dishes were thoughtfully prepared (especially the homemade dried sardines, which were excellent) and delicious. We made a reservation for next year as a "revenge" visit before leaving. Thank you very much!

    Hospitality in every detail.

    The staff's thoughtful and reserved hospitality, the accommodation's design, and the tranquil atmosphere could be felt throughout. Not only were the meals visually stunning and delicious, but even details like how ingredients were cut and the timing of serving reflected top-tier service. It was a quiet and reassuring stay.     Snow Flower

    A room bath with dancing snow. I was healed by the smooth hot water. Satisfied with the carefully prepared dishes, Akita's sake, and rice. It was a wonderful Stays that I would like to visit during the cherry blossom season as well. Thank you.

    The food and drinks are delicious and absolutely satisfying.

    This was a trip after retirement. We chose this place because of its high ratings. Living in Miyazaki, where it doesn't snow, this was a snow-viewing trip for us. My wife is not comfortable with public baths, so the fact that the Room had a private bath was one of the reasons for our choice. While soaking in the bath, we could enjoy the snowy scenery, the water temperature was just right, and we could step out onto the veranda directly from the bath (of course, it’s not visible from other Rooms), which helped us feel completely refreshed. The meals were served as a course menu in a private Room, and the sake was delicious, leaving my wife very satisfied. The course meal included dishes like 'Kiritanpo' and 'Iburigakko,' which I had always wanted to try, and even though I don't drink much, I was very satisfied as well. Additionally, I was able to purchase a 'Tsubame Kiln Takahashi Kyoko Guinomi' that was sold out online, thanks to the staff who kindly searched for it in stock. I am truly grateful for their excellent service.

    I would love to visit again right away; it was an amazing Property.

    I originally thought it was a wonderful Property and made a Reservation with high expectations, but it turned out to be an even more amazing stay! Everything from the lobby, Room, meals, to the bath was excellent. I was completely satisfied from check-in to check-out, and I hope to visit again during a different season to enjoy a new view! The person who provided the massage was also kind and very skilled, and I hope to use the service again when I return! Thank you very much!

    Popular Stays You Want to Visit Again

    A little while ago, I stayed at the property for my partner's birthday trip. Since it was a special birthday trip, I wanted to stay at a wonderful property, so I chose Wabisakura. As a result, it was the perfect choice! The food was very delicious, visually appealing, and carefully prepared. The room was clean, and the bath was excellent. The price seemed a bit high, but the amenities and hospitality were top-notch, and I was able to spend my time very comfortably. If I have the opportunity, I would love to visit again, and I look forward to even more wonderful hospitality at that time!

    This time, it was a visit with my parents during the snowy season, so there were many things I wanted to confirm in advance, such as access on the day and the room layout. I made various inquiries, and each time I received very detailed and courteous responses, which heightened my expectations even before going. On the day, although I paid an additional fee, they accommodated an early check-in at the last minute and promptly brought anything missing in the room. I was constantly impressed by the hospitality of the staff, who ensured that guests could stay comfortably and without inconvenience. Thank you very much. I would like to visit again during the cherry blossom season! P.S.: It would be perfect if the meals could be just a little more outstanding...

    A property with a different level of elegance

    I rarely write reviews, but this time I couldn't contain the overwhelming emotion and decided to document it. It's not what you would commonly call "the best." This property has a different level of elegance. The word "wabi" implies fulfilling the heart amidst insufficiency, and this property truly embodies that calm and profound contemplation. The meals were also very carefully prepared. The dishes had a depth that is difficult to express in words. I hope to visit again when the conditions are more favorable. However, as it is located deep in the mountains, I think the signboards should be a bit larger. I got lost.

    It was the ultimate Stays I encountered in the six prefectures of Tohoku!

    After more than five years since my parents passed away, I have been visiting tourist spots to enjoy onsen and cuisine while searching for a calm property to avoid the COVID-19 pandemic, but this property was special. I never imagined there was a top-class property in the Tohoku region nearby. I was impressed by the quality of the facility, which has been maintained as if it had not been in operation for over 10 years, and the dining environment was ahead of its time. The spring quality has a pleasant viscosity, second only to Seikankan in the mountain's Onsen, and the meals are at a high level that serves as a criterion for choosing a property. To be honest, it was a property I didn't want to share too much about.

    I was healed again this time!

    The entire Facility has a calm and serene atmosphere, which is very nice. The meals are delicious and you can tell they are carefully prepared. It was also nice that they helped carry our luggage to the car after checkout. Until last year, this service was only available at check-in. Some Stays do not offer this service upon departure, but being able to have this assistance makes you feel the attentive service until the end. I would like to use it again.

    For my first trip to...

    For my first trip to Tohoku, I chose Akita Prefecture, a place I have always wanted to visit. Since it was my husband's anniversary, I secretly wanted to experience both the onsen and the property at "Kakunodate Sanso Wabisakura." It was truly a property as rumored. The warm hospitality of the staff, the quality of the onsen, the comfort of the room, and the wonderful meals we enjoyed in the room with my husband—all of it became a wonderful memory for us as a couple. We were able to spend a heartwarming time thanks to the staff's thoughtfulness towards my husband. Thank you for taking care of us. We would love to visit again. All five stars!

    The Onsen was great, but the meals were not quite satisfactory.

    The property had a sense of cleanliness. I was taken care of, but there were some points of dissatisfaction. First, it is quite far from Kakunodate Station and there is no shuttle service. The taxi fare costs about 7000 yen round trip. The entrance to the room's bath was low, and I hit my head. If there are rooms with a standard bath entrance, considering the crowd, it is unkind to guide guests to a room where they might hit their heads. I had high expectations for the food, but there was no delicious dish, and considering the accommodation fee, the ingredients were somewhat lacking, which was quite disappointing. The meat dish for dinner seems to be a standard, but it was greasy, the taste was too strong, and the mayonnaise dipping sauce did not suit me. It might be better to halve the amount of meat and add another dish. The ingredients lacked a sense of luxury and felt like home cooking. Also, the mixed rice for dinner was not tasty. Akita is known for its rice, so this was disappointing. For breakfast, the rice was delicious, but two soy milk drinks were served, and I think one would be enough. If serving two, vegetable juice or fruit juice would be better.

    Regrettable Stays

    Having stayed numerous times, I had clearly requested to avoid rooms on this side, and despite making the reservation well in advance, I was given a room without the view I wanted to avoid. I was looking forward to spending time enjoying the view of the autumn leaves, so it felt like everything was ruined. Even after expressing my complaint, there was no satisfactory response or action, with excuses like it being busy or other guests having room preferences. If there are other room requests, does that mean the requests for reservations with room preferences made well in advance are ignored? Moreover, the hallway had a strong stink bug smell, making me feel sick every time I passed through. Can a property that can only provide such service be called a luxury ryokan? It was very disappointing.

    Satisfaction

    I am satisfied with everything including the service, meals, room, and onsen. If I had to say, the road to the property is narrow and difficult for oncoming traffic, so I was worried about encountering oncoming cars. Another thing is that I would like the complimentary drinks in the room's refrigerator to be a bit more plentiful.

    We had a wonderful stay. It was a 2-night stay, but we didn't want to leave. The room was spacious enough to relax. Start the day with a healthy and delicious breakfast, and reflect on the fun day with a visually enjoyable and luxurious dinner! It is a wonderful property with great satisfaction.

    A healing space in the satoyama

    The thatched main building is lovely. The room, the open-air bath in the room, and the balcony are spacious, allowing you to relax while enjoying a bath. (The amenities are also excellent!) The meals were authentic Japanese cuisine, and not only was the taste outstanding, but the presentation was also as beautiful as a jewelry box. It was an inn where you could feel the attention to detail in everything.
