    An adults-only Accommodation where you can relax at a leisurely pace, surrounded by greenery.

    I stayed for two nights. The lush, green surroundings were very soothing, and the area was quiet, so I was able to spend a relaxed and peaceful time. The Room was also lovely with a modern Japanese style. Since it was cool during my stay, I enjoyed reading on the terrace and relaxing while feeling close to nature. The staff were courteous and made my stay very comfortable. The meals were delicious, but if you are expecting classic Akita local cuisine, it may feel a little different from what you imagine. Personally, I found it memorable (and interesting) that grated daikon was used generously. One thing that made me chuckle was being able to hear a conversation from the bath in the neighboring Room—perhaps because the surroundings are so quiet that voices carried unexpectedly. Overall, rather than being an Accommodation for busy sightseeing, I think it suits those who want to enjoy the luxury of doing nothing in nature. In particular, I would recommend this Accommodation to adults who want to take things slow and unwind.

    An Accommodation Where You Can Be Healed by the Power of Nature

    A relocated samurai residence Accommodation that appears tucked away in the mountains. The Room was very spacious and spotless, with thoughtful touches throughout and plenty of cherry-bark craftsmanship—exceptionally comfortable, and I couldn’t stop admiring it. On the Room terrace, I relaxed while listening to insects and birds, and the private open-air Onsen bath was wonderfully soothing. The meals were also absolutely delicious. Thank you to all the staff for your warm hospitality.

    The Room and the food were so great that it made it all the more disappointing.

    Overall, I felt this Accommodation was top-class in almost every aspect—Room, dining, and more. It was a bit disappointing that our Room did not have the advertised scenic view, but the Room itself was very spacious, and having a semi-open-air Onsen bath in the Room was a big plus. The meals were especially delicious across the board, and we truly enjoyed them. The reason I ended up giving 4 stars is due to a lack of communication. There was something regarding meals that I needed to inform you about, so I consulted with you in advance. It was reflected at dinner and all staff seemed aware of it; however, it was not reflected the next morning. As a result (due to my condition), there were several items I could not eat. For an Accommodation of this level, this response was very disappointing. After day one it would have been 5 stars, but after breakfast on day two it no longer felt like a 5. Another concern was that there were quite a lot of cobwebs inside the property. It was particularly disappointing to see large cobwebs even on the shelves in the gift shop. If these points are improved, I believe it could become an even more outstanding Accommodation.

    That’s disappointing.

    This was the most disappointing meal of any Accommodation I have stayed at through IKYU so far. Is the difference between my experience and other Reviews because I booked the Standard Plan? I found nothing truly enjoyable in terms of ingredient quality, freshness, or seasoning. Even though this is known for good rice, it was served only as mixed rice or porridge, so I couldn’t enjoy it properly. The plain white rice at breakfast was the only dish that simply brought out the ingredients’ natural flavor. There were no local specialties such as junsai, iburigakko, or kiritanpo, and I had no idea what I was supposed to look forward to in the meal. Despite being a highly rated Accommodation, how could even the dashi not taste good? If there had been even one satisfying item, I could have focused on that—but all that remained was disappointment and frustration. The person who served dinner was also unfriendly, which made things feel even worse. The only saving grace was that the woman who assisted us at arrival and during breakfast provided courteous service. My mother traveling with me ended up saying at breakfast that “dinner wasn’t good at all,” but she listened and responded kindly. I think the building itself is a wonderful space that blends beautifully into nature. However, having looked forward to the food and finding it not tasty turned this trip into a disappointing memory—something I experienced for the first time.

    Even before our arrival, you kindly responded by email to our questions about the bath temperature and dining. Thank you as well for your attentive support throughout our stay. It was a wonderful experience. If I may suggest one area for improvement, the chair in the Room did not have a headrest, which made it a bit difficult to relax while watching TV. However, overall we were very satisfied with our stay and are truly grateful.

    The hospitality was exceptional.

    A charming Accommodation, delicious cuisine, and heartfelt hospitality—everything was exceptional, and I was truly moved. I don’t have many opportunities to visit Akita, but this was a special Accommodation that made me think, “I will definitely come back.” I also purchased and read the book that tells the story leading up to the opening. I deeply resonated with the passion and convictions behind it and found it truly inspiring. I hope to learn from that passion and continue working in a way that brings joy to the people right in front of me.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    We stayed at Naotake for a Multiple Night Stay of three nights. As usual, we stayed in the property the whole time. At Naotake, you can’t hear the outdoor air-conditioning unit at all, so it’s completely quiet and we sleep very well. My companion also loves it and has visited in July and January. We’ve been coming for years because meals are served in the Room and smoking is allowed on the terrace. The staff haven’t changed, so they’ve become familiar faces to us. On all three nights, my companion had a two-hour spa treatment and seemed very satisfied. Next time, we’d like to stay another three nights in February, right in midwinter. In any case, the Room is very quiet, and since there are three rooms, we can each spend time however we like.

    The food is excellent!

    The food was outstanding—especially the Akita beef steak, which was delicious with a tender, easy-to-bite texture and light, clean-tasting fat. The entire property and our Room were impeccably cleaned, and we had a very comfortable stay. Although it’s deep in the mountains, effective insect control must be in place; even when using the outdoor deck chairs or opening the windows while enjoying the open-air bath, we felt no discomfort at all. We were also reassured about bear safety thanks to the electric fence, which allowed us to stay with peace of mind. That said, since there were four of us and there is only one shower in the Room, it would have been nice if the private family bath had a washing area. Still, the staff were consistently attentive and never showed any displeasure—they provided thoughtful service throughout. It was an Accommodation where we could truly relax and make wonderful memories. Thank you very much.

    This Accommodation was attentive to every detail.

    The Room, bath, and meals were all excellent—above all, the staff’s pleasant service. In particular, the person in charge of serving kindly accommodated our difficult requests with great care. We would like to give top marks for everything. However, while the appetizers were perfect for those of us who enjoy alcohol, we couldn’t help wondering how they might feel to guests who don’t drink.     This was my first stay here, and it’s an Accommodation I’d been curious about for a long time. Surrounded by forest, it was very quiet and truly relaxing. The semi-open-air bath in the Room was so spacious that it felt almost too luxurious for just two people. The meals were also excellent—beautifully presented, seasonal dishes. In particular, I loved the jun-sai shabu-shabu, as jun-sai is in season right now. There are many Japanese stewartia trees in the garden, and I’d love to visit again when they are in bloom.     I am completely satisfied with everything.

    It had been a long time since I truly enjoyed the genuine service of a Ryokan. The room size and atmosphere were very satisfying, and the large semi-open-air bath was perfect for relaxing at length. Above all, the food was outstanding. Unlike many Ryokan these days that prioritize flashy plating on cheap ceramics over ingredients and flavor, both dinner and breakfast featured many surprising vegetable-centered dishes, and we were extremely satisfied. The staff were also friendly, allowing us to relax from the heart. It’s far away, but I hope to visit again someday. If I had to mention one drawback, it would be that there isn’t anywhere nearby for a walk—but that can’t really be helped. Thank you again for everything.

    The Room was easy to...

    The Room was easy to use, and the bath in the Room was nice. What was disappointing was that, considering the price, the food wasn’t very good. The ingredients were decent, but I felt their quality wasn’t brought out. Also, I thought there weren’t many local Akita specialties. I probably won’t stay a second time. This may sound harsh, but it’s how I honestly feel.

    The bath, the Room, and the staff’s hospitality—everything was wonderful! I’ll definitely be back. The snow-viewing bath was amazing. If I could suggest a couple of improvements: I’d be happy if dinner had a simpler, more straightforward flavor. I’m a bit tired of elaborate city-style cuisine, so I’d love it if the kiritanpo and even the final rice dish were less intricate overall—more rustic and comforting. Also, if possible, I’d really appreciate more substantial lunch options for guests staying two nights.

    Very unfortunate.

    I visited for a birthday Onsen trip. When asked about dinner time, I went to the dining area at the specified time, but the staff were engrossed in personal conversations and didn’t notice me until I spoke up. The hot pot meal was supposed to be attended to once it boiled, as instructed, but no one came. When I tried to lie down on the bed, I found an interdental brush next to it. It was unpleasant and unacceptable. To make matters worse, there were stains on the sheets. How could this go unnoticed during bed-making? It was extremely unhygienic and disappointing. During breakfast, an older male staff member could be heard complaining in a heavy accent about inefficiency among colleagues. This made for an unpleasant start to the morning. Considering the price point, both service and overall experience were disappointing. It seems you can’t truly know until you visit. What a letdown.

    The cuisine was excellent.

    Stayed with a one-year-old child. During the prior reservation confirmation call, we discussed the child's meals and bedding, and requested a bed placed against the wall. This was kindly arranged in advance for us on the day of arrival. The room was spacious and free of unnecessary items, allowing our one-year-old to happily crawl around. However, I did notice some dust on areas like the TV stand and floor, which caught my attention as my child touched various spots. The meals were perfect in both taste and portion size—absolutely delicious! It would have been nice to have a knife and fork for the meat dish. Our child also enjoyed satisfying meals both in the morning and evening. The onsen water temperature was quite hot, so our child couldn't enter it; I wonder if temperature adjustment was possible... Adults were very satisfied though! Overall, it was an extremely satisfying accommodation experience. Thank you very much! We would love to stay again!

    I rarely write reviews, but this stay was so exceptional that I felt compelled to share my experience. When choosing accommodations, I usually opt for a ryokan with a private open-air onsen and meals included. However, Wabisakura was undoubtedly the most memorable accommodation I have ever visited. The open-air onsen was spacious and comfortable, and despite being in the mountains, there were hardly any insects or birds around—a relief for someone like me who is not fond of bugs. The cuisine was not only delicious but also beautifully presented, truly worthy of Michelin recognition. Each dish showcased Akita's local ingredients with care and craftsmanship that conveyed heartfelt dedication. The service was outstanding; everyone was kind and welcoming. Even as we left the restaurant, cheerful greetings from the kitchen staff created a warm atmosphere. After dinner, we relaxed in the lounge while reading "The Story of Wabisakura's Creation." It detailed the journey from onsen excavation to opening day with such care that it deeply moved me—this remarkable ryokan is clearly born out of profound love for the local community and family ties. I look forward to visiting again during another season!

    The Best Onsen Accommodation

    This was my third stay, and it remained a wonderful accommodation. It was quiet, and the onsen provided great relaxation. The meals were made with carefully selected ingredients and were delicious. I believe this is the best onsen accommodation in Tohoku. Although I didn’t encounter any squirrels, I did see a praying mantis and dragonflies. I enjoyed revisiting Akita with the unchanged beauty of Nyuto Onsen and Dakigaeri Gorge's scenery. Next time, I hope to visit during the season when the cherry blossoms in Kakunodate are at their best.

    The meals did not me...

    The meals did not meet my expectations as there was an extensive use of thick sauce, which I personally do not prefer. The roast beef was also slightly dry. I might have set my expectations too high, as I am a fan of "Bun Tokuyama" in Hiroo. Some outlets within the building were not well-fitted, making certain areas appear less tidy, which caught my attention. However, the bath was incredibly relaxing and enjoyable.

    We chose this accommodation for a family trip to celebrate our parents' golden wedding anniversary. During our stay, we rarely encountered other guests, and the entire facility exuded a calm and relaxing atmosphere, making it an ideal place to unwind. The most memorable feature was the 24-hour onsen in our room with natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source. It provided deep relaxation and allowed us to enjoy the luxury of soaking at any time without worrying about the clock. While the view from our room and outdoor bath wasn't what one might call "spectacular," the serene environment completely detached from daily noise quietly eased away fatigue, offering an ideal sense of tranquility. Dinner was a kaiseki-style meal featuring ingredients from Akita Prefecture, showcasing careful attention to bringing out their natural flavors. While some appetizers were slightly salty for my taste, all other dishes were delicious and enjoyable. One dish using junsai stood out with its presentation in ice water—a refreshing touch—but it took time for the pot to boil fully, raising concerns that it might extinguish before reaching proper temperature. As a result, I felt that its flavor could not be fully appreciated due to insufficient heat. Given how special Akita's local ingredients are, I believe this dish could have been even more memorable if prepared in a way that ensured optimal flavor delivery. At breakfast, freshly cooked Akita Komachi rice and gentle-tasting porridge provided comforting nourishment for both body and soul. However, there was no explanation about items like soy milk; having a simple menu or description would have enhanced this already pleasant morning experience. Most notably, the private Onsen in the room was outstanding; opening the door to the balcony while soaking gave the feeling of bathing in nature's embrace (though we enjoyed the private bath as well, we were more than satisfied with our room's Onsen). High-quality towels in the bathroom and luxurious amenities added to our comfort. Unique Experience: After driving through narrow forest paths that felt slightly adventurous, arriving at this traditional thatched-roof house provided an extraordinary sense of arrival. Relaxing welcome sweets at check-in set a comforting tone. The guest rooms exuded warmth with their pure Japanese design featuring wooden interiors along with indulgent indoor baths accessible anytime—offering continuous moments of excitement away from daily life. Nearby attractions like Samurai residences in Kakunodate (with special benefits for guests) or breathtaking views at Lake Tazawa make this accommodation an ideal base for exploring Akita’s highlights.     A Simple and Serene Accommodation Offering Hospitality

    A luxurious Ryokan, but... Despite traveling from afar with high expectations, I was left feeling underwhelmed. First, the front desk service was very indifferent, offering no advice on sightseeing. Unless we asked questions ourselves, there was no guidance provided. The lounge lacked any drink service and the sense of hospitality was almost nonexistent. After finishing our meal, we were directed straight back to our Room without any effort to create a lingering atmosphere or memorable experience—it all felt like a mechanical process. The private bath we had been looking forward to felt no different from an ordinary Room bath. It left us wondering if this could really be called "private." There was absolutely no sense of exclusivity. As for the kaiseki cuisine that should have been the highlight—it lacked both visual and flavorful surprises. There were no creative touches that made us wonder "What is this?" Everything tasted quite ordinary and predictable upon trying it. Local ingredients unique to the area were also scarce in the dishes served. Unfortunately, what I had hoped for—a "memorable experience" at a high-end Ryokan—was nowhere to be found during this trip.
