We stayed with my parents as a family. We traveled with a school-aged child and an infant, and the in-Room bath made our stay very comfortable. We truly appreciate your thoughtful consideration for our children during meals. The garden view and the river view from the open-air bath were so relaxing. My parents were very happy, and it gave us a wonderful chance to show our appreciation. Thank you very much.

    It was a comfortable accommodation.

There was no overly attentive service, and I had a very comfortable stay. Most notably, both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The only disappointment was that they didn’t serve the salt-grilled sweetfish or yamame trout that is almost always offered in this area, which I really missed. Since we had both high-quality kuro-gyu sukiyaki and aka-gyu steak—two beef dishes—I wondered if just one might have been enough… though everything was delicious (haha). Thank you for the relaxing time at this spacious Accommodation; it was very comfortable.

The Accommodation was great, but the emergency response was disappointing.

On the night of our stay, heavy rain began, and from around 3:00 a.m. through early morning, emergency alerts for an evacuation order at Alert Level 4 sounded repeatedly. It was an anxious night. Since a river runs right next to the Accommodation, we expected some explanation of the situation and guidance regarding safety for guests, but we received no communication from the Accommodation. It was only in the morning that we were contacted by phone and informed that the floor of the lobby building had been flooded and that the large public bath could not be used. The open-air bath in the large public bath was unavailable. The indoor bath did not have any notice stating it was closed, but mud had gotten onto the floor and it was extremely slippery; considering safety, it was difficult to use. In addition, due to the rain continuing all night, the open-air bath in our guest room had become lukewarm, so on checkout day we were not able to fully enjoy the Onsen. As a result, we checked out earlier than planned. The food was very delicious, and I felt that the Onsen itself is normally very good. In particular, the service provided by the staff member in charge of our meals was extremely courteous, which made our stay very pleasant. We fully understand that everyone on staff must have been overwhelmed responding to a natural disaster. However, it was very disappointing that there was no explanation of what was happening or any safety check-in for guests despite an Alert Level 4 evacuation order being issued—and also that there were no words of explanation or apology from a manager at checkout. The disaster itself is not the Accommodation’s fault; however, precisely in emergencies like this, I believe sharing information with guests and showing consideration—and how you respond—are especially important.

A comfortable stay surrounded by nature with exceptional value for money

Surrounded by the rich nature of Kurokawa Onsen, I was able to spend a truly relaxing time. The Room had a calm atmosphere, and the bath in the Room was very pleasant. I could enjoy the Onsen as many times as I liked at any time. The food was delicious, and both dinner and breakfast were highly satisfying. The dining area also had a great atmosphere, allowing me to enjoy my meals at a leisurely pace. All of the staff were friendly, and their casual yet comfortable service helped me stay relaxed throughout my visit. Considering the quality of the Room, Onsen, and meals, I felt this Accommodation offers excellent value for money. When I visit Kurokawa Onsen again, I would definitely like to stay here. Thank you very much.

This was my first time in Kurokawa Onsen, and I’m so glad I chose this place! Each unit is a separate annex, the Room was spotless, and the private open-air bath was spacious—absolutely satisfying. The meals let us fully enjoy Kumamoto’s local cuisine, and we were able to relax in a private dining room. I’d love to visit again if I have the chance. Thank you very much!

    We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

This time, our goal was simply to relax, and we were able to do exactly that. We thoroughly enjoyed both the large public bath and the open-air bath in our Room. Dinner and breakfast were delicious, and the portions were just right—we finished everything. We stayed until check-out time and were able to unwind completely. We’d love to stay again in a different Room next time.

All of the women who assisted our family were very kind, and it was a truly wonderful Accommodation. However, it was disappointing that during the phone support and when we were shown to our Room, we felt a lack of attentiveness and consideration—especially because it is otherwise such a lovely Accommodation.

Soak in the Onsen while watching small birds.

It was my first time visiting Kurokawa Onsen, and the food, the service, and the Onsen were all wonderful. My husband and I were able to relax and take our time. At the open-air bath, little birds even came to visit, and although I was bathing alone, I didn’t feel lonely. I asked the staff for recommended spots, and they told me about Nabegataki Falls. I’m truly glad I got to see it. Everyone was so kind, and it made for a great trip. Thank you very much.

    Delighted by the delicious meals!

Thank you for a wonderful stay. The spacious Room, lovely furnishings, and the in-room Onsen were all excellent—an incredibly comfortable Room. All of the staff were very kind and welcoming, always with a smile. Most noteworthy was the dining. We were able to fully enjoy Kumamoto specialties, and everything was truly delicious! They also provided transportation to and from downtown Kurokawa Onsen, so we could fully enjoy visiting different baths. This is an Accommodation I highly recommend.

This year again: a cherry blossom trip to Kurokawa and Yufuin

All the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, making this a truly moving trip at this time of year. The rates were not too high, and it was a reasonably priced Accommodation. From the main road to the Accommodation, there are several kilometers of very narrow roads, which may be a concern. I recommend going in a small car.

    Wonderful

We stayed at two Accommodations in Kurokawa Onsen this time, and Nohanasa was outstanding. The Accommodations in Kurokawa Onsen are truly high quality... The Room was so spacious it honestly surprised us. Both the meals and the Onsen were excellent! We expected great meals since everyone raves about them, but we didn’t realize the Onsen would be this good... We’ll definitely be back!

    It was a wonderful accommodation!

From the moment we arrived, it was an absolutely wonderful accommodation! The staff were mostly young, but their hospitality was excellent and left a great impression. We had a truly luxurious and satisfying time. There are many other lovely accommodations in Kurokawa Onsen, but this is definitely one we would love to revisit. Thank you for the amazing experience!

    A Gourmet Accommodation

I visited to enjoy delicious cuisine and the onsen during the autumn foliage season. The meals exceeded my expectations with their luxurious presentation and taste, and the portions were more than satisfying. The private open-air bath in the room was at a perfect temperature, providing a relaxing experience. The hospitality was exceptionally polite and pleasant. I would love to stay again if given the chance. However, I did notice that some of the facilities felt outdated, particularly in the bathroom area of the room; renovations would make it perfect. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    Highly Satisfied

We stayed as a group of four, including my elderly parents and younger brother. The room was spacious, and the private bath and open-air bath attached to the room were equipped with a well-designed changing area. My father especially loved it and ended up using that bath three times without going to the public baths outside. We also tried all the indoor and open-air public baths at the accommodation, which were all excellent. Since there weren’t many guests staying, we could enjoy a relaxing soak without any crowding. The quality of the water was also outstanding. As I had informed them about my elderly parents having difficulty sitting on traditional tatami mats, they kindly prepared chairs in our room for us. Although we initially worried about the distance between our detached room and facilities like the baths, dining area, or front desk, it turned out to be perfectly manageable even for my elderly parents. The meals were delicious and visually stunning—a true feast for both taste buds and eyes! All staff members were kind and attentive. The road leading to the accommodation is slightly narrow but accessible enough with a Camry-sized car. It seems easier to approach from an eastern route; coincidentally, that’s what we did as well. Both my parents and brother repeatedly thanked me for choosing such a wonderful accommodation!

    Wonderful memories

This was our second visit in three years. The first time was my last trip with my late sister, and honestly, I couldn't fully appreciate the Onsen or the delicious meals as it became a bittersweet memory that brought tears every time I recalled it. However, this time, we decided to celebrate a special occasion and cherish the journey with my sister as a fond memory by staying here again with my husband. From the approach to the entrance, the serene atmosphere at the front desk, and the staff's warm hospitality—everything captivated us. The room, Onsen, and meals were all truly wonderful, healing both body and soul. It made me realize anew how fortunate I was to have spent such precious moments with my sister at this beautiful accommodation. I hope to create more cherished memories here next time with my family.

From check-in, the staff provided kind and attentive service. The room met expectations with ample space and included both an indoor bath and an open-air Onsen, creating a pleasant atmosphere. Meals, both dinner and breakfast, were served in a private room. However, the young male server seemed slightly inexperienced; particularly during breakfast when placing rice bowls on the table by pinching them with his fingers, which felt unprofessional and disappointing. The Onsen was highly satisfying—despite the rain, the large open-air bath had partial roofing that created a comfortable environment. Overall, it offered privacy and tranquility—a perfect setting for older couples to relax and enjoy their stay at ease.

    It was excellent.

We visited during heavy rain and were warmly welcomed with an umbrella at the car, which was very helpful. The Onsen in the room was wonderful, and the open-air bath was exceptional. Both dinner and breakfast were incredibly delicious. Although we have visited Kurokawa Onsen several times, this is the first Ryokan that made us want to return. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

    The best accommodation ever.

The room was a detached accommodation with an open-air bath and a charming indoor bath, both at perfect temperatures. We were picked up from the bus stop, and despite arriving too early, we were treated with great courtesy. Due to rain, we postponed exploring the onsen town to the next morning, but we appreciated that they researched store opening times for us in advance. The meals were perfectly portioned for seniors and absolutely delicious. We enjoyed them quietly and leisurely in a private dining space. Breakfast was also completely satisfying. While it would be ideal if the washroom facilities were renovated, even without that, this was one of the best accommodations we've ever experienced.

    A quiet and relaxing accommodation

The spacious room is comfortable, and the greenery of the garden adds to the satisfaction. The private bath in the room has a rustic charm that made me feel delighted to be at Kurokawa Onsen. However, since there are only towels provided in the room for use at the large public bath, it would be great if more towels could be supplied and water could be made available in the changing area. Dinner was fulfilling with plenty of local meat, and I especially enjoyed the delicious horse sashimi. The Art Nouveau-inspired dining venue was lovely, with beautiful greenery visible through the windows that lifted my spirits.

    The Room is spacious!

This was my first stay. The detached accommodation was spacious and relaxing, with clean and comfortable tatami mats. From the room's bath and toilet, I could enjoy a beautiful view of greenery, giving a soothing feeling as if being in the forest. The onsen had no strong smell and was very pleasant. The open-air bath of the accommodation is located right next to the river, offering a dynamic view that made me exclaim, "This is Kurokawa Onsen!" It would be helpful to have a lockable valuables box at the open-air bath.

    It was a great accommodation.

We stayed at this accommodation for our first visit to Kurokawa Onsen as a family of four. It is located next to the famous "Yamamizuki," and after much deliberation, we chose this place due to its high review ratings. From the moment we arrived in the parking lot, we were warmly welcomed, and the room was spacious enough for a comfortable stay. The highlight was undoubtedly the onsen experience, as expected from Kurokawa Onsen. The private open-air bath in our room was particularly impressive with its ample size and relaxing atmosphere. The shared open-air bath had only two washing areas, which was slightly inconvenient, but it offered beautiful views of the nearby stream despite being small in scale. We also tried "Yamamizuki's" baths on a day-use basis for comparison; their open-air baths were significantly larger with grand river views right beside them. However, some aspects like the pool-like blue tiles in their women's bath or stagnant water at certain edges with oil films and insects floating gave mixed impressions. If I had to point out some concerns: upon check-in, we were left standing while being told briefly that "the room instructions are written down" and "there's fruit in the fridge," which felt somewhat impersonal though non-intrusive; during meals, there was little verbal explanation about the delicious dishes served; dining took place in a large hall where half-empty tables created an odd conference-room-like atmosphere; and lastly, a blanket casually placed on a chair during dinner remained untouched until morning. Compared to other accommodations we've stayed at before, more attention to detail would have been appreciated. That said, overall it was a pleasant stay where we could enjoy our first visit to Kurokawa Onsen comfortably. We would consider staying here again if given another opportunity!

A space that lets you forget your daily life

It was my first time staying at this accommodation, recommended by a friend. It was a wonderful space worth more than its price. Although the ryokan is not new, the spacious room, open-air bath, and food were all excellent! I would love to stay here again.

    Comfortable in every way

For our first visit to Kurokawa Onsen, we stayed at Nono Hana. Since a family member has mobility issues, we requested the barrier-free Suou room. The room was excellent, and we had a very comfortable stay. The private onsen in the room was especially relaxing and enjoyable. Additionally, the meals were prepared with carefully selected ingredients, offering both exceptional taste and presentation that exceeded our expectations. What impressed us most was the attentiveness of the staff member who assisted us (we remember their name). From arrival to departure, they provided kind and thoughtful service, making our stay truly memorable. Thank you very much. We look forward to returning to Nono Hana again in the future!

    Accommodation like an art museum

I have stayed at Kurokawa Onsen several times and feel that it is of a high standard even nationwide. The highlights of this accommodation are the furnishings in the main building, the view of the courtyard from there, and the excellent design and ambiance of the guest rooms. I believe it is reasonably priced for its value.

It was my first time at Kurokawa Onsen.

Unable to secure a reservation initially, we managed to stay through the waiting list. Located slightly away from the center of Kurokawa Onsen, the accommodation is spaciously built on its grounds with a charming atmosphere. The distance between each room and bath was well-considered, providing a sense of privacy and comfort at this ryokan. The baths, thoughtfully designed with rock structures, were particularly impressive. The onsen quality was excellent, allowing for a relaxing experience. Meals focused on local production for local consumption and were highly satisfying. The rice in Kyushu is exceptionally delicious, and we enjoyed both Akaushi beef and Higo beef with their distinct flavors. This was our first visit to Kurokawa Onsen, but it exceeded our expectations as an onsen destination. However, as the roads are narrow in some areas, those traveling by car should exercise caution.

    Wonderful Accommodation

Despite the rain, the greenery of the trees and moss looked even more beautiful and atmospheric. My friends who came from afar were very pleased. The decor in the Room was tasteful, and the fresh flowers were elegant. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and satisfying. We stayed in a Room called "Ishidake," but there was a step in the main area of the Room, which made me almost trip a few times. However, overall, I am very satisfied. The staff members were also pleasant. Thank you very much!

As expected of an accommodation in Kurokawa Onsen.

Despite being an accommodation nestled in the forest, the wooden building and garden, which are prone to damage from rain, wind, and fallen leaves, were very well maintained. The onsen had excellent water quality and was entirely free-flowing—truly a hallmark of Kurokawa Onsen. We were provided with shuttle service to the onsen town and received guidance about the baths at a sister ryokan. The next day, we even borrowed towels for free and enjoyed bathing there. The open-air bath at this traditional ryokan offered a different charm compared to No no Hana's facilities. The meals were exquisite kaiseki cuisine that left us completely satisfied. This is an accommodation I would definitely recommend to acquaintances. If given another opportunity, I would love to visit again during a different season!
