    The Onsen is excellent.

This was my second stay, and I brought my father. The lobby and hallways are clean, but although the Room is properly cleaned, it is clearly showing its age. I chose a larger Room and was satisfied with the space. The new mattress for the Japanese-style Room was comfortable to sleep on. However, the sound of water flowing when other guests drain their in-room baths can disturb sleep. The Room TV does not support BS channels, which disappointed my father. The Onsen quality is excellent. If the property were fully renovated, I would like to stay again.

    Relaxing Ryokan

I was satisfied with everything—the facilities, the Room, and the bath. The food tasted average, but there was a wide variety of dishes, and I was able to enjoy my meal at a relaxed pace.

    Not allowed

This was my second stay. I love the atmosphere of the property, so I chose it again this time. The Room was neat and clean, with the same calm ambiance as before. The in-room bath draws natural hot spring water directly from the tap, so you can relax and soak without worrying about time. As for the meals… they felt just okay—neither particularly good nor bad. Not especially delicious, but not unpleasant either. The late-night soba is outstanding! This is definitely worth trying—you can eat it even when you’re already full! The large public bath is impressive. You can fully enjoy the Kusatsu Onsen waters. One disappointment—just like last time—was that there was no one to see us off at departure. Maybe that’s just how it is. Given the overall feel of the place, it would have been nice if at least one person had said “Please come again” and seen us off—it would have made for a more pleasant departure… It left me feeling slightly unsatisfied.

Large Public Bath and Open-Air Bath

It was disappointing that fallen leaves had accumulated in the open-air bath of the large public bath.

    The Best Onsen

This was my first visit to Kusatsu Onsen. My first surprise was the “Melody Line,” where the driving sound plays the folk song “Kusatsu-bushi.” I was truly moved. Yubatake is also wonderful—something you can experience with all five senses. The Facility at Toki no Niwa has a great atmosphere, and it’s a lovely building. The Onsen in the open-air bath attached to the Room is also free-flowing hot spring water. It’s great—you can soak anytime right away. The men’s bath is also excellent, and the private open-air baths are outstanding. This is what it means to truly relax in an Onsen. The local sake was delicious as well. One disappointment was that I didn’t find anything particularly memorable about the meals.

    Quantum leap

I’m impressed by the quality of the Kusatsu Onsen water.

I fully enjoyed the quality of the Kusatsu Onsen. The large public bath was a perfect 100/100. However, as for the bath in the Room, the plug seemed loose, so it took a long time to fill with Onsen water and never really filled up. In the end, I gave up and didn’t use it. It was disappointing since I chose a Room with a bath. Overall, I was very satisfied with the hospitality, service, and meals. I actually appreciated that they avoided unnecessary or excessive services in favor of efficiency. It was also pleasant to see all the young staff working cheerfully and professionally.

Despite the high price for a one-night stay, the staff service was poor, and the hotel facilities were outdated. Basic amenities were not provided in the guest rooms, and there were not enough children's yukatas available. Although this is an onsen ryokan with many guests, there were only three private onsens available, leading to long waiting times. It is hard to understand why it is so expensive despite being so outdated. I will never stay here again.

    It was not tasty.

The facility was spacious and clean, but the door of the cabinet containing the refrigerator in the guest room was broken. The bath was nice. However, the food was cold and not tasty. The service speed was extremely fast, bringing multiple dishes before we finished eating, leaving three plates on the table at once. We were served tempura as a complimentary dish, but it was also cold and hard. There was snow piled up when we arrived by car, and after checking out, they kindly cleared the snow off our car for us. While this gesture was appreciated, they threw some of that snow towards me while I watched them work, getting my clothes wet. There wasn’t even an apology for this incident; it left me very disappointed. I will definitely not return again.

    An efficiency-focuse...

An efficiency-focused approach to amenities, assembly-line-like service during meals, and the lack of meals and a sufficiently spacious room that matched the cost of 50,000 yen per person left an impression of having made a poor choice in accommodation.

    For families

We stayed here for a trip with our children. Since we had a baby with us, they kindly prepared items like a bouncer and child chairs for meals. The Room had diaper disposal bags, which was very helpful. The hallway was covered with tatami mats, making it great for kids to walk around. We also enjoyed post-bath ice cream and late-night ramen, which added to our satisfaction.

    The Best Onsen

I enjoy staying at this accommodation occasionally because I love the onsen here. The hot spring quality in Kusatsu is excellent, and this facility offers many onsen options, which I make sure to try every time. I particularly like the open-air bath and the carbonated silky bath. This year, I chose a room on the top floor. It was very spacious and comfortable to stay in. The late-night soba is also something I look forward to every time. Exploring the hidden spots of Kusatsu was fun too, and I would love to visit again!

    Mother's Birthday Trip

It was a trip for my mother's birthday, but unfortunately, it was disappointing. There was no sense of attentiveness, consideration, or care. Although the garden is lovely, it wasn't well-maintained, and the service felt overpriced.

This is a Room with an open-air bath.

The price was quite high as it included an open-air Onsen, so I had high expectations. However, there were no amenities in the Room, and the cleaning felt insufficient. It felt like it wasn't worth the price... I don't think I would visit again. The Onsen and customer service were good.

    Wonderful Accommodation

The staff were all very kind. When we wanted to use the private bath, it was raining and we didn’t have an umbrella, but they immediately brought one without hesitation. Every time they brought our meals, they thanked us and left a polite impression. I’m glad I chose Toki no Niwa.

Thanksgiving Trip for Respect for the Aged Day

We chose this hotel for its accessibility, and it was perfect for my elderly mother to move around comfortably. The courtyard provided a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The meals offered a variety of dishes with just the right level of satisfaction. The onsen was absolutely wonderful! The indoor onsen was available anytime, which made us very happy! With unique features of Kyoritsu Resort, such as the complimentary late-night ramen service, the amenities were excellent. It has become an accommodation we would love to visit again.

    Used several times...

I have stayed here several times, including visits to the neighboring "Konoha." Despite the age of the facility, it seems no renovation work has been done. The tatami in the room is worn out, and the ceiling of the open-air bath attached to the room is covered in mold. The TV was surprisingly small and outdated. As an onsen enthusiast, I have been visiting almost every year for over 10 years because of how wonderful the baths are, but I am starting to notice how old the facility feels. For dinner, I always find that "Konoha's" half-buffet is far more satisfying than "Toki no Niwa's" kaiseki cuisine. Unfortunately, there was nothing enjoyable about the Japanese breakfast set either. It’s truly disappointing because this accommodation has such amazing onsen facilities. If they renovate their rooms in the future, I would love to visit again; however, if things remain as they are now, this may be my last stay here.

    I will use it again.

We stayed during the peak of summer vacation and received kind and attentive service. The facility is not new but was well-maintained and clean. It would have been nice to have a memo pad and pen near the phone. Having multiple bath towels available would also be convenient. Additionally, it would be helpful if meal times could be reserved in advance, as being assigned based on arrival order can limit subsequent plans. We look forward to staying again. Thank you very much!

    Unfortunately.

The first impression upon entering the room was, "It smells musty!" The once lovely accommodation has completely changed. Maintenance seems insufficient, and cleaning feels inadequate. There are areas where cost-cutting is acceptable and others where it is not. Please reconsider with a balanced approach.

Visited again after a long time.

The open-air bath in the room is very relaxing. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious. I don't understand why the review rating is low. I think it's a good accommodation. I would like to come again.

    It was excellent.

We stayed as a couple. The atmosphere of the accommodation was great, and the room was just the right size. Above all, the variety of baths was amazing. We thoroughly enjoyed them in the morning as well. The open-air bath attached to our room was, of course, an onsen and very enjoyable. The meals were delicious and filling! We would love to stay again. Thank you very much!

It was a very good accommodation. The baths had various types of Onsen, which brought us immense joy as Onsen enthusiasts. The breakfast could have been slightly more creative, but overall, it was worth more than the price. We will definitely return again. Thank you very much!

    Dinner

The start times are only 17:30 and 20:00/20:10, and it's on a first-come, first-served basis. It would be better if there were more flexibility. The noise during dinner was concerning. The sounds from staff movements, dish handling, cart movements, etc., were far more noticeable than the voices of other guests. It felt as noisy as dining in a family restaurant.

A variety of baths to enjoy!

The exterior was stunning, and I felt excited as I parked my car and walked to the entrance. A foreign staff member guided me to the Room, and they were very polite. The Room was incredibly clean, with a private bath and an outdoor relaxation space that made me even more excited. The bed was fluffy, and I loved being able to choose my pillow. There were many baths available, which is perfect for bath lovers. The private baths were very popular and often fully booked, but having free access to them is a delightful service. The meals were delicious. The "night soba" was like instant noodles but worked well as a late-night snack after drinking; however, it would be even better if the quality improved. The souvenir shop only had gifts available; while there are free ice creams provided, it would be great if there were options like Häagen-Dazs ice cream or a wider variety of drinks and alcohol available for purchase.

    A malfunctioning facility is...

The entrance, front desk, and lobby had a charming atmosphere, making it a pleasant accommodation. However, it was disappointing to learn that some parts of the large public bath's sauna and stone spa were unavailable, and the in-use lamp for the private open-air bath was out of order. Even so, when I mentioned in the hallway that the size of my yukata didn’t fit, a staff member quickly ran to deliver a suitable one, allowing me to enjoy my stay comfortably.

    The staff provided excellent service.

I stayed on a weekday during the Golden Week holidays. The guidance upon arrival at the accommodation was excellent and attentive. The female staff member who assisted us during dinner (unfortunately, I forgot her name) was very friendly and welcoming. The driver of the shuttle bus we took to visit Yubatake after dinner was also very pleasant. This is an accommodation I would love to use again. It became a wonderful memory for me.

    The Onsen was very relaxing.

The Onsen was incredibly relaxing and enjoyable. I wanted to unwind in the room before dinner, but unfortunately, I couldn't relax at all due to the noise from what seemed to be children and their family in the neighboring room. The walls appear to be quite thin. Other than that, the staff's service was excellent, and I am very satisfied overall. Thank you very much!

    Hmm!

The building was older than expected, and the interior had a full retro Showa-era vibe! Dinner was served in two shifts, but even though we checked in at 3 PM, our dinner slot ended up being at 8 PM. We've visited many ryokans before, but this dinner was among the lowest quality—especially the tempura, which we wished had been served warm. For those who enjoy a retro atmosphere, No Meals Included stays might be recommended here. The bath was the only highlight.

    The Onsen is excellent, but...

The Onsen was perfect! As expected from Kusatsu Onsen. However, the guest room was a bit small and not very relaxing. The food was average and not impressive. Especially the fresh fish, which was underwhelming. Instead of forcing fresh fish, I would have preferred to enjoy delicious local ingredients unique to Gunma.

    Relax and Enjoy

The open-air bath was amazing, and I was very satisfied with the leisurely meals! Since we had a toddler, we appreciated being provided with a private tatami room. It was a pleasant surprise that the beer in the fridge was free. The distance from the parking lot to the entrance felt a bit far, but that’s about all I noticed.
