Recommended for family trips
Overall, it was a very pleasant stay. Thank you very much. While some past information suggests that service hours and offerings have been reduced compared to before, I felt it was more than sufficient. I debated between the West Wing and the East Wing Room, but chose the East Wing. It was a little more expensive, but I was satisfied. The meals were also delicious. We stayed for a Multiple Night Stay (2 nights). The first night was very satisfying, but on the second night it felt like the overall quality had dropped compared to the first. Since this is for guests staying multiple nights, I think the second night could be made a bit more special. It was also a shame that the children’s meal set did not change much in content. The bath area was spacious and never crowded, so we enjoyed using it comfortably. However, in the pool, two teenagers and their father were playing with a ball, which was very disruptive given how small the pool is—I would have appreciated staff stepping in to address this. Also, the pool water was extremely cold; if the temperature could be adjusted (for example by mixing in Onsen water), it would be easier for younger children to use as well. The Room was spacious, and there were no issues with air conditioning or amenities—we stayed comfortably. During cleaning on our Multiple Night Stay, towels were replaced and trash was collected, but we were disappointed that dishes were not exchanged and complimentary tea supplies were not replenished. The lounge was crowded throughout our stay; if possible, it might be nice to have certain time slots reserved only for East Wing members/guests. The Shuttle Service by bus to nearby sightseeing spots was also extremely helpful. We would love to visit again if we have another opportunity. Thank you very much.

Blissful moments at the finest Hotel!
We stayed for a Multiple Night Stay in August, and everything was outstanding! First, the food: starting with peach soup with lobster on the first day, followed by artistically beautiful and delicate dishes. On the second day as well, from the prosciutto and Shine Muscat appetizer to char, wood-fired lamb… everything was perfect through dessert—we truly enjoyed every bite. The garden is spacious and beautifully maintained, with wonderful views. The open-air rock bath was amazing. The Room was also spacious and spotless, allowing us to relax at our own pace—it was pure bliss. The staff’s greetings were warm and pleasant, and this is an Accommodation we definitely want to return to. Thank you for such a wonderful stay.

The best Hotel ever!
Baths: There are four private rooms available for online Reservation, which helps spread guests out, so the large public bath did not feel very crowded. The large public bath has both hot and lukewarm baths, each available in both the open-air and indoor areas. It was an open, wonderfully relaxing Onsen experience. Amenities are well stocked. Meals: The meals generously used local ingredients, which I really appreciated. The flavors had some unique touches, and it was fun to try everything. I don’t tolerate alcohol well, but the non-alcoholic wines came in several options and were very delicious. Other: Because the Facility is in the mountains, you may see a few insects, but everything is very clean. The welcome drinks and food were extremely generous. There were so many options that I could only enjoy a small portion of them—my only regret. The amenities included cosmetics made with Mikimoto pearl extract—exceptionally well stocked. The garden was also beautiful. There were sets for playing on the lawn, such as badminton and Mölkky. At departure, they even gave us chilled water to take with us. Overall, it was a Hotel with outstanding service and an incredibly comfortable stay.

Perfect weather
Based on the good Reviews of the meals and the great views, we chose the cheapest Room but the best meal Plan. The meals lived up to the Reviews. The Onsen had a slight disinfectant smell, and we couldn’t really feel any distinctive water quality. Drinks in the refrigerator were free, and there was also a drink service next to the front desk. Overall, however, it felt overpriced for what you get. If the price were a bit lower and the Onsen water quality were better, we would consider staying again.

Everything was wonderful!
This was our first stay. The expansive grounds have walking paths, and the courtyard was filled with seasonal flowers; at night, the trees were illuminated, creating a magical atmosphere. The entire Hotel was spotless. We stayed as a family of five, and the bedroom was spacious and well designed, making it very comfortable to use. The staff kept a pleasant distance while still being attentive, and they kindly accommodated our picky eating habits, which we really appreciated. Dinner was served in two seatings and we could only choose 7:45 p.m., which was disappointing, but there were drinks and light snacks available to tide us over. Breakfast was buffet-style; as someone who prefers Japanese cuisine, I would have liked a few more items such as simmered dishes or rolled omelet. The bath featured a silky Onsen with an open-air bath as well, so we could truly relax. However, there were limited changing areas and washing stations, so we sometimes had to wait when it was crowded. We stayed for only one night this time, but it’s a Hotel that makes you want to come back again and again.

This Hotel is best enjoyed with a longer stay.
The entire property is impeccably maintained—spotless throughout—and truly a highland resort in every sense. The courtyard greenery, the open-terrace breakfast, the modern Japanese-style large public bath with its wonderfully high ceiling, and the many private baths... it would be a shame to check in late. If you want to use a private bath, once you check in and receive the facility guide sheet, you can make a Reservation for each bath on the back—so it’s best to do it right away. When I tried to book a morning bath for the next day later that night, all the good time slots were already fully booked... Even in midsummer, it was cool and comfortable. I’d love to visit again.

It was the best family trip.
We stayed for two nights with three families on a family trip to celebrate a retirement. This was our third stay, and we were a little worried this time because we were traveling with a baby, but the restaurant staff kindly accommodated our requests, allowing us to relax and enjoy our time. The garden is always beautifully maintained, making walks very pleasant, and everyone in our family was delighted with the delicious food and wonderful Onsen. Thank you for a truly happy stay.

This is my favorite regular Accommodation.
It’s been a while since I last visited Hakuba. Whenever I come to Shinshu, I always choose this Hotel. The meals, the baths, and the lounge are all favorites. I’m always impressed by how the staff provide attentive service without being intrusive. The little surprises here and there also make me smile. When I come back to Shinshu again, I look forward to staying with you.

It was an enjoyable stay.
It was my first stay in several years, and everything had been upgraded in many ways, making it a very comfortable visit. We enjoyed a relaxing pre-dinner wine, and the meal was delicious. Since we were also celebrating my friend’s birthday, we were thrilled with the congratulatory message plate. The breakfast buffet had a great variety, and it was a hearty energy boost for our hike after check-out!! The private bath was also wonderful. It looks like we could enjoy the pool in summer as well, so I’d love to bring my grandchildren next time. Thank you very much for your kind hospitality.

I’d love to stay here again.
• What I liked… I passed staff members in many places, and they always stepped to the side of the corridor, bowed, and greeted me. It really felt like a top-class Hotel, and it was impressive that almost all staff did this. It made my stay very pleasant. The meals felt a bit small at first, but there were complimentary snacks so it didn’t bother me. Having some room to enjoy those was actually nice. The food was delicious. I had read a Review saying the breakfast buffet was limited, so I didn’t expect much, but that wasn’t true at all. The rice was excellent—although I usually prefer bread in the morning, I ended up getting seconds. The Nagano-grown rice may be good, but I also think it’s cooked very well. Since it was Golden Week, I asked for as quiet a Room as possible. It was farther from the baths and dining area, but even with many families staying there, my Room was quiet. Thank you. The courtyard garden was also beautiful. • What could have been better… I booked the private bath “Thermae,” but that day we had heavy rain. There’s no roof there, so we couldn’t relax at all and had to leave quickly. Since I checked in early, it would have been nice if someone had mentioned this beforehand. I was really looking forward to the bath experience, so personally it was quite disappointing. I also wanted to play table tennis, but one family kept using it continuously and we couldn’t use it at all. The massage chairs were also occupied by a parent and child—the child wasn’t using the massage function and treated it like a regular chair. It happened to be the same family as with table tennis. It would be better if usage were limited (e.g., 30 minutes), or if reservations were required. Lastly, Aside from how crowded Golden Week is, there were many carp streamers displayed along the river. The contrast between fresh greenery and mountains still topped with snow was very beautiful—so overall it turned out well in its own way. I’d like to visit again during a quieter season or when everything is covered in snow.

Enjoyed the ski season!
For the past 10 years, we have been repeat guests at this Hotel. This time, we stayed in a Superior Suite with three generations of our family, totaling six people. The layout was excellent as all six of us could use beds, and it featured two bedrooms. Our grandchildren are now elementary school students, and their first skiing experience was the main purpose of this trip. We eagerly awaited the trip while checking weather forecasts and snow conditions at the ski resort. Fortunately, the beginner area at Tsugaike opened just in time for our visit, and we were blessed with great weather. Since it was a Multiple Night Stay for two nights, four members of our family selected ski wear and equipment from the rental shop on the Hotel premises a day prior to skiing. They also confirmed shuttle bus details with the front desk to ensure everything went smoothly on skiing day from breakfast until bus departure. On-site at the slopes, they shared their excitement about learning to ski well enough by afternoon to ride gondola lifts. As senior members of our family, my spouse and I enjoyed relaxing moments watching gondolas ascend through views from the lobby lounge overlooking gardens or indulging in light snacks provided by services offered here alongside soaking leisurely within Onsen facilities available onsite. The light snack service & breakfast menu seemed thoughtfully curated; sugar pies during bar hours stood out uniquely alongside Toji Soba noodles or medicinal hot pot shabu-shabu served mornings impressively innovative compared against previous offerings like peach buns/chinese rice dumplings/sweet red bean soup/hot wine which remain fond memories hoping someday reappear again! Evening French dinners varied daily over both nights tasted deliciously complemented attentive table service gestures appreciated greatly! However noticed minor concerns regarding women’s changing room feeling chilly consistently despite post-bath lounge areas being warm/cozy contrastingly disappointing slightly similarly observed temperature inconsistencies between main bath/rooftop open-air baths fluctuating lukewarm occasionally suggesting perhaps adjusting smaller tubs into hotter alternatives wintertime might enhance usability better overall experiences further improved potentially addressing such feedback constructively positively impacting future stays ahead undoubtedly returning beloved destination soonest possible meantime expressing gratitude heartfelt thanks memorable enjoyable stay altogether!

Stayed in July and came back in October!
I love the atmosphere of the large bath at this hotel, but during my recent visit, I was disappointed to see a very large man squeezing himself into a small cold bath or perhaps a water jar for rinsing. It would be great if hotel staff could check regularly. The accommodation building is divided into right and left from the front desk—does the right side offer a better experience?

Overall satisfied
The Room was clean, the amenities were more than sufficient, and although we only had breakfast, it was delicious and very satisfying. It was a Hotel that made me want to come back. However, the women’s bath temperature—both the indoor bath and the open-air bath—was lukewarm, and no matter how long I soaked, I couldn’t warm up. I ended up warming up in the bath in my Room. Because of that, I couldn’t enjoy the complimentary coffee milk or ice cream. The hot water in the Room also left my skin feeling smooth and it was pleasant, but I at least wanted the open-air bath to be hotter. Also, some staff greeted us pleasantly while others said nothing, which made me wonder. When we finished a light meal and it was being cleared away, it felt like casual family-restaurant service—what a shame. With a smile and a brief word, it would have felt like true hospitality. Of course, there were also very pleasant staff members, and since I’d like to visit again, overall I’m mostly satisfied.

Cozy Hotel
This was my fourth stay. Since Hakuba is far, we stayed for two nights. Previously, I traveled alone, but this time I brought my child and grandchild. Although there were only two of us, we chose the suite in the East Wing because we really wanted to stay there—and it was the perfect choice! The room was spacious, newly renovated, and very comfortable. At night, everyone gathered in our room to drink and play games. The space was large enough with a perfectly sized table at just the right height—it made for a truly enjoyable time. Every year we travel as a group of 10 to various places, but this has been the best experience so far! Everyone was completely satisfied. I also had so much fun playing card games that my sons prepared for us... We enjoyed Iwatake as well and created wonderful memories. We are big fans of your Chinese cuisine (though your French dishes are also excellent). This time I wanted to bring my family along—and as expected(!), everyone kept saying how delicious everything was beyond their imagination! It turned out to be an incredibly satisfying trip to Hakuba—thank you very much. I gave one less star for facilities—not because they weren’t great (the hotel itself is amazing with fantastic baths, lounges, and gardens)—but because there wasn’t anything available for children on rainy days... That part worried me a little bit. If something could be added in that regard (though I know it might be difficult), it would be greatly appreciated since there aren’t many indoor activities nearby either—that’s been our only concern when bringing kids along. Oh yes—next time we’d love to visit Nikusho Nakazawa! As food lovers in our family would surely enjoy it too—we’ll definitely come back again soon! Thank you again!

A Hotel You'll Want to Visit Again, Whether Alone or with Family
I frequently travel solo 2-3 times a month, mainly to Onsen accommodations in Eastern Japan. When I find an accommodation I like, I often bring along my family of 10, including my grandchildren. This was our first trip to Hakuba as a group of 10. I had stayed here three times before on my own and knew it was a great hotel, but being in the "mountains," how much we could enjoy depended on the weather. I was worried that without activities, the grandchildren might get bored. Fortunately, we had good weather on the second day and spent an entire day enjoying activities at the Iwatake Resort. The buggy cruise was especially fun and satisfying for both adults and kids! We travel as a group of 10 every year to various places, but this trip received top marks from everyone in the family—it’s been rated as our best experience yet! The East Wing rooms were spacious and perfect for families; they’ve been renovated beautifully, which made us very happy. The meals were also highly praised by everyone. The French cuisine on the first night received high marks—especially the children’s menu; it was so good that even I thought it would have been enough for me! (Haha) On the second night, we enjoyed Chinese cuisine (which has always been excellent), but this time it exceeded expectations with rave reviews from all family members. Being autumn season, rare mushrooms were featured prominently in dishes where their flavors were brought out masterfully by your chef's skills—our food-loving family members were all thoroughly impressed! There are already requests from everyone to revisit soon. The chef truly brings out Hakuba's charm through his culinary creations—I personally would love to indulge again in those mushroom-focused dishes someday... The chef’s passion for ingredients and storytelling added an extra layer of flavor that made everything unforgettable. Thank you so much—we’ll definitely be back again soon!

A hotel perfect for a staycation
I mainly stayed at the Hotel this time. The Room was spacious, and with the Onsen, I was able to relax comfortably. Thank you very much. If I were to mention something, it would be about the late-night snacks provided; I wasn't sure if I could take them or bring them back to my Room, so I hesitated and decided to leave it for another time. When I asked the staff, they kindly answered my question, so it's really just a minor point. I would love to stay again for a relaxing hotel vacation!

Ingredients are of mid-range quality, priced above the cheapest options at Aeon or Ito-Yokado.
Appetizer: Eggplant topped with shrimp and jelly. Average. Soup: Pumpkin soup. Average. Bread: Hard, cold, and lacks aroma. Similar to supermarket roll bread sold at 6 pieces for 180 yen. Fish: Oily salmon with a greasy texture. Meat: Two slices of duck meat, approximately 8mm thick, 12cm long, and 4cm wide in an oval shape, seasoned with a mysterious curry flavor. The accompanying soba noodle salad-like dish is worse than any supermarket deli food ever tasted. Dessert: Worse than the cheapest convenience store option; reminiscent of cheap desserts from Showa-era budget Ryokan dining experiences.

The meals were very disappointing.
After several years since my last visit before COVID, I returned. The breakfast was the same every day, resembling a free breakfast at a Business Hotel in both variety and taste. The white rice was delicious, but the miso soup on the final day had almost no ingredients, and the ingredients were always the same. The light meals were also repetitive with nothing noteworthy. The wine was around 1,000 yen quality, and while sake was stored in a cooler, it wasn’t properly chilled. It’s evident that they are cutting costs by using the same limited ingredients repeatedly. I didn’t make a Reservation for dinner as I didn’t expect much from it. The bath had an open atmosphere in an old-style house setting which was nice; however, overseas guests with small children allowed their kids to be noisy without any consideration—it felt more like being at a poolside. Even the coffee milk had changed from local milk to products from major brands. Unless you can enjoy clear weather with mountain views, I don’t think it’s worth visiting.

I stay every year.
I stay at this accommodation every year when I go hiking in Hakuba. The garden here is incredibly beautiful, and even on rainy days, you can relax while enjoying the well-maintained view. One slight disappointment is that while free light snacks are provided, I felt they were better during my previous stay. Additionally, the breakfast buffet could be improved a bit. That said, the staff are always cheerful and kind, making my stay very comfortable once again this time. Thank you very much!

Excellent!!
We stayed as a group of three, including my 85-year-old mother. The wonderful facilities, complimentary drinks, and late-night snacks were impressive, but I was especially moved by the quality of the onsen water. It was soft and smooth with no resistance at all. Even the water from the room's faucet amazed me when I washed my face—it left my skin glowing. This has become an accommodation we want to revisit every year. Also, the smile of the lady at the front desk was lovely.

Simply exceptional.
The scenery was tranquil, and the facility's aesthetics and hospitality were impeccable, making it hard to check out. Although this accommodation has been operating for 30 years, it was so beautiful that I thought it was a new building. I only had breakfast, but it was delicious and reasonably priced. This has become one of my favorite accommodations, and I would love to stay here again.

Glad I could go without giving up.
I was looking for accommodation near Iwatake Mountain Resort after checking reviews on YouTube and other sites. One place that caught my attention was Sierra Resort Hakuba. However, with only two weeks before the trip, there were no available rooms due to its immense popularity. Feeling disappointed, I kept searching while joining the cancellation waitlist as a last resort. To my surprise, I received unexpected news later... and finally enjoyed a much-anticipated one-night stay. It was a perfect escape from daily hustle and bustle, spending an unforgettable time with my wife.

I had a relaxing time!
After a busy work season, I finally managed to take some time off. This summer has been scorching, but in Hakuba, the mornings and evenings bring a breeze with hints of autumn. The rice fields are heavy with grain, and dragonflies were flying everywhere. The hotel had a beautiful courtyard that perfectly matched the atmosphere of Hakuba, adorned with colorful flowers and well-maintained surroundings. It was a comfortable place to stay no matter where you were. Although my stay spanned into September and the hotel was crowded, dinner was only available from 8 PM. I was worried about getting too hungry but appreciated the light snacks and red/white wine provided in the open lounge. I enjoyed relaxing in the large public bath during quieter hours and waiting for dinner stress-free with snacks and wine. The French dinner featured locally sourced ingredients with vibrant summer vegetables—it was absolutely delicious. The breakfast buffet also offered sweet-tasting rice from Hakuba along with flavorful side dishes. It was convenient to reserve private outdoor baths via QR code; however, even though I checked in before 4 PM, only one slot after 11 PM remained available for booking. That part was disappointing. This time I stayed in the West Wing but would love to book accommodation in the East Wing next time if possible. Driving from Tokyo required some courage due to the distance, but being close to Hakuba Iwatake Mountain Resort as well as visiting Zenkoji Temple made it worthwhile. Out of all my stays so far, this hotel truly made me want to relax more thoroughly next time!

Dinner and Free Drinks
There was a free drink time, but there were no alcoholic beverages I wanted to try. I wish at least sparkling wine or beer had been available. Dinner seemed to include Chinese cuisine as well, but this was not mentioned on any of the booking sites. Since I am not fond of French cuisine, I would have appreciated being informed about other options from the beginning.

It was comfortable, but there was no space for adults.
【East Wing】Executive Suite Room with Open-Air Bath (Quadruple) The room was spacious, with a simple interior design and a large closet, making it very convenient and satisfying. The designated space to remove shoes at the entrance added a touch of cleanliness, which was appreciated. The French dinner menu was changed for our multiple night stay, allowing us to enjoy delicious meals each evening. The staff were few but highly skilled, working tirelessly while maintaining exceptional hospitality. Overall, the hotel exuded an atmosphere of a luxury resort; however, it also featured various attractions that seemed designed to delight children, giving it more of a family-friendly impression. Unfortunately, there were no quiet spaces for adults to relax peacefully. This aspect fell short of our expectations as both the lobby and pool areas as well as the restaurant were often filled with children running around, making it difficult to unwind. Even in the lounge where alcohol is served until 10 PM, small children were present—a situation that felt somewhat out of place. We noticed many senior guests like ourselves during our stay. It might be worth considering separating spaces for adults and children—for example by designating certain lounges exclusively for adult use in the evenings—to enhance comfort for all guests.

This was my first time staying here. The layout of the accommodation was easy to navigate, and the view of the courtyard was absolutely beautiful. The French course dinner was delicious and even enjoyable for my picky middle schooler. Although we didn’t use the private open-air bath, it’s great that it’s available for free. The kids loved the welcome drink, Calpis Amazake, so much that we’re planning to try making it at home. It was a one-night stay this time, but next time I’d like to have a multiple night stay and relax more. If I may make one suggestion, having a checkout time at 11:00 AM would allow for a more leisurely experience. It’s definitely a hotel worth paying extra to extend your stay! Thank you also for the Nagano-grown rice souvenir! If there’s another opportunity, I’d love to stay here again!
