    Spanish streetscapes and the stunning coastline of the Shima Peninsula

    It had been a long time since I last had the chance to visit Europe, but at Shima Mediterranean Village I was able to experience those nostalgic streetscapes again after so many years. Combined with the beautiful coastline of the Shima Peninsula, it made for a wonderfully relaxing stay, and I truly felt glad that we chose this Hotel. Meals were served buffet-style, and both breakfast and dinner were of a very high standard—I was extremely satisfied. I could also sense the passion and attention to detail of everyone involved in preparing the dishes, which left a strong impression. As we stayed with our pet dog, I had some concerns about our dog’s toilet needs and asked for advice. Thank you very much for your courteous support, including sending photos to help us. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude for your consideration regarding changing breakfast (especially the female staff member at reception). Thanks to your help, we were able to stay with peace of mind together with our dog and enjoy a wonderful time. If we have another opportunity, we would love to visit again.

    A Cozy Hotel

    From check-in to departure, this Accommodation is soothing thanks to the warm smiles of the staff. The Basque cuisine at Restaurant Rias is delicious. This is a favorite Hotel with excellent value for money.

    Enjoy an extraordinary escape

    At my (still very fit) 87-year-old father’s request, we decided to stay here. We were lucky to have clear skies and it was hot, but there were also rest spots with pleasantly air-conditioned areas, so we enjoyed walking around the Facility. Dinner featured delicious seafood, and breakfast offered both Japanese and Western options. I also enjoyed observing the moon through a telescope and taking in the starry sky. This time we stayed in a villa; it was very spacious, with the living room on the second floor and the bedroom on the first floor. We could see the ocean as well, and it felt like staying at a private vacation home. It was a wonderful non-everyday experience for us as parent and child.

    A belated pilgrimage...

    A belated pilgrimage to a filming location. We arrived by sea taxi and climbed the stairs to one of the only two “view bath” Rooms. With a separate living room and bedroom, it felt wonderfully spacious. The toilet and wet area were charming with small tiles. And when you open the door, it should be a view bath… but wait—a unit bath? A square white bathtub with an accordion-style roll-up cover, a rugged silver hot-water pipe, and a privacy fence. I checked again and again, thinking maybe it slid open—but no! After all that attention to detail, why did they cut corners here? At least make the tub oval or something. In the end, we didn’t use this Facility even once—thank goodness the spa was close by. When we left Restaurant Cocochi, it was raining just as forecast. The illuminated town was empty because of the rain—so breathtakingly beautiful! It didn’t compare at all to the daytime photos I hurriedly took while dodging showers. It was so stunning I forgot to even open my umbrella. I’m glad we stayed! If I get another chance to visit, I’ll choose a more standard Room instead of that one, skip dinner at Cocochi, and go for Azure’s buffet—with an extra large à la carte spiny lobster added on top. If the weather is good, stargazing would be great—and a cruise too.

    Thank you very much.

    I stayed for one night with my elderly mother. I had informed you in advance that she has difficulty walking, and I truly appreciated the thoughtful care shown by the Hotel staff. Even before entering the village, the Shuttle Service guide shared helpful information (for example, “It’s quicker if you go right,” along with recommendations for lunch and light meals). At the front desk, they prepared a Room with my mother’s mobility in mind based on the information I provided beforehand. Above all, they kindly asked, “How are you feeling?”—we were deeply touched by their warmth. The Onsen was soothing with its gentle aroma, and because it’s close to the sea it was slightly salty (in a good way!). It was a rare experience for us, and the open-air bath felt wonderfully connected to the bay. We also enjoyed making a trivet tile at the craft workshop. Spending about an hour and a half focusing seriously on hands-on work felt like something I hadn’t done since elementary school—it brought back childlike joy. It was a lovely workshop where I could create a keepsake together with my mother, and I’m sure we’ll remember this trip every time we see it. We had both dinner and breakfast as well. The meals featured plenty of local ingredients—food is one of our favorite parts of traveling—and everything was delicious. They also noticed right away and kindly took photos of me with my mother. We joined the nighttime stargazing event too. Living in the city, we rarely get to see stars clearly, so it was special—and with explanations included, it brought back memories like “I remember this from textbooks!” My mother recently recovered from an illness but then suffered a fracture soon after, which left her quite discouraged. Only recently had she started being able to take short Onsen trips again. Mediterranean Village felt like quite a distance for her and required some courage—but our stay here truly healed her spirit and she had such an enjoyable time that she’s now saying enthusiastically, “Let’s go again!” Thank you very much. Next time, I’d love to bring my family as well. We look forward to staying with you again.

    Travel abroad while staying in Japan

    We stayed at Shima Mediterranean Village for one night and two days. The moment you step inside, it feels like the Mediterranean—so exciting. Everywhere you look is picture-perfect. We had watched videos on YouTube beforehand, but seeing it in person was even more impressive. I was truly moved that a place like this exists in Japan. The food was delicious and very satisfying, and you can also enjoy a natural Onsen. I genuinely recommend this place—please do visit if you have the chance.

    I had been intereste...

    I had been interested in this Accommodation for some time, and I stayed here with a friend while also visiting Ise Shrine. The design of the Facility was so unique that I almost forgot I was in Japan, and when the lights were turned off throughout the Facility for a few minutes around 10:00 p.m., we were able to admire the wonderful starry sky—an truly extraordinary experience. If I have the chance to visit Mie Prefecture again someday, I would love to return to Shima Mediterranean Village.

    Travel to Europe without leaving Japan

    We stayed for two nights over Golden Week for our wedding anniversary trip. The moment you step through the gate, it feels like another world—the entire property is like a Mediterranean seaside town. Our Room was styled in crisp white and vivid blue, very Mediterranean as well, and the concept was consistent throughout, so we could truly feel like we were traveling in Europe while still in Japan. From the Room balcony we had a panoramic view of Ago Bay, and both my wife and I were extremely satisfied with the scenery. Meals were buffet-style for both breakfast and dinner, with great quality and variety. As a curry lover, I especially enjoyed that I could have as much Matsusaka beef curry at dinner and Mediterranean curry at breakfast as I wanted—I ended up eating too much. That said, having the buffet again on the second night (basically the same menu as the first) did get a bit repetitive, so I slightly regret not switching—at an additional cost—to the new Basque cuisine restaurant in another building. There is a bath in the Room, but we didn’t use it; instead we used the Onsen in another building. Just like from our Room, Ago Bay spread out right in front of us from the open-air bath—it was amazing. We also relaxed in an exclusive lounge for guests where drinks are available all you can drink. There are stylish shops on site too—we enjoyed exploring them, fishing from the pier, and taking an Ago Bay cruise. All our everyday fatigue disappeared. We’d love to stay again.     A wonderful Accommodation with attentive service

    First of all, the staff were very attentive and the level of service was excellent, so I had a very comfortable stay. The Hotel concept, exterior, and interior were also wonderful, and I would like to stay again. One thing I noticed was that the spa background music was too upbeat to relax. I would appreciate music with a slightly slower tempo.

    It was a wonderful Hotel.

    This is a Hotel I’d wanted to stay at for a long time after hearing from a friend that it was wonderful. The streetscape was beautiful. The fountain was charming, and the cafe was lovely too. We got the cafe pizza to go, and the thin, crispy crust was delicious! There were also guest-only seats, so we could relax. There were photo spots everywhere, and I never got bored no matter how many days we stayed. During the hours reserved for guests only, we were able to take lots of photos. All the photo spots were adorable. I also loved that our Room had a cohesive blue theme. The Onsen was truly amazing as well. The interior felt like being overseas, with soothing scents and music... The shampoo and conditioner smelled great too. Overall, it felt like a Facility where everything is thoughtfully taken care of—exactly what you’d hope for. The buffet was delicious too. If I had to mention one thing: since our Room was on the second floor, we had to use stairs; depending on where you park, the parking lot may be far; there are many uneven stone-paved paths; and you need to walk outside from your Room to the Onsen—so guests with limited mobility or elderly guests might find it a bit challenging. It wasn’t an issue for me personally. Going back and forth to the Onsen in the rain was cold and tough—that’s about it. Other than that, nothing but praise. The staff were excellent as well. Highly recommended Hotel—we had a great time and will definitely return.

    Thank you very much.

    On the same date last year, my 93-year-old mother passed away, and I had to Cancel the Reservation. This time, I stayed on the same date one year later. Absolutely five stars. It was a wonderful Hotel, and all the staff were excellent. Thank you very much.

    Enjoy a fun international getaway.

    I truly felt refreshed, as if I were in another country. Both the dinner and breakfast buffets offered a wide variety of options, and everything was delicious. When we arrived, the closest parking lot was difficult to park in, but the staff kindly assisted us and we were able to park safely. Everyone else was friendly and helpful as well. It was great that the drink bar was available from night until morning, so I could rehydrate after using the spa. Also, we received drink tickets, so after checking out we enjoyed a walk, then used them to take a break before heading out.

    I’d love to visit again on a sunny day.

    I was able to enjoy the beautiful streetscape just as it looked in the photos, even in the rain. I also felt that the age of the Facility added to its charm. What I liked ・The staff at the craft workshop were kind ・Umbrellas for use within the Facility were available everywhere, so sudden rain wasn’t a problem ・A complimentary drinks space for guests ・Dinner buffet: everything from appetizers to desserts was delicious ・Street-corner piano What I’d be happy to see improved ・The Room lighting (a bit brighter would be nice… though if that was part of the ambiance, my apologies) ・More Shima-inspired options at the breakfast buffet! Dinner was wonderful, so I may have set my expectations too high. How about tekone-zushi in the morning? ・A bit more of an entertainer vibe from all staff members

    This was our first t...

    This was our first trip with our dog, and we were able to relax comfortably. Every dish at the Azure buffet was delicious, and our whole family was satisfied. The staff’s friendly service with warm smiles also made us feel very welcome.

    Feel the Mediterranean resort vibe!

    Shuttle service is available from Ugata Station, and just walking around the premises allows you to enjoy the beautiful and exotic atmosphere. Dinner was a Mediterranean buffet with a wide variety of creative dishes, all of which were delicious. During the evening event, staff provided explanations about constellations, and we were moved by the stunning starry sky. The staff's courteous service made this one of the hotels we'd love to stay at again.

    The meals were not as greasy as expected and were delicious. The Onsen building is separate from the accommodation building, which may cause chills when used in winter; having multiple facilities would be ideal.

    Beautiful cityscape

    The staff's hospitality and the cuisine were excellent, but the townscape truly felt like Spain, making it enjoyable just to walk around. Visiting in winter, the town was decorated for Christmas, and the illuminations were stunning. Next time, I would love to visit in summer and enjoy the sea.

    Exotic Atmosphere

    You can feel like you're in a foreign city. I stayed with my beloved dog, and the room was very spacious and comfortable. However, dogs are not allowed in the bedroom, so they need to sleep in a separate room. They also have to stay behind during dinner. Breakfast can be enjoyed together with your dog at the café. The onsen features exotic interior decor with ylang-ylang and lemon aromas, making it a delightful experience. At night, the lights are dimmed for a short time to enjoy stargazing—creating a romantic atmosphere with views of the sea, stars, and Mediterranean-style streetscape. The early morning sunrise was also stunning. It would be nice if the buffet-style dinner and café breakfast were slightly more delicious. Also, I noticed some hair left from previous guests in the bathroom of our room, which was a bit disappointing. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, making our stay pleasant overall.

    Exceeded expectations and had a great time!

    The warm hospitality from check-in was delightful. We enjoyed exploring the various photo spots and heart-hunting activities within the Facility. The only disappointment was that the orange juice stand was closed during operating hours, so we couldn't have any. At the detached restaurant "Cococha," they thoughtfully adjusted the course menu to accommodate our dietary preferences shared in advance, and the taste was excellent! We were touched by their hospitality when they assisted us with our large suitcases during transit. We look forward to visiting again!

    To stay, take your time and relax at your leisure.

    As we arrived at night, we postponed exploring the area and taking photos until the next day. Since our departure was also early, we had to rush through, and looking back now, I feel it was a bit of a missed opportunity. It’s a place where you can enjoy more if you check in early and plan your itinerary to make full use of the time until check-out the next day. We chose a villa-type room for our accommodation. It provided plenty of space for our family of three to relax comfortably. Additionally, we opted for buffet-style meals for both dinner and breakfast, which were thoroughly enjoyable. The dishes featured plenty of local ingredients, allowing us to savor the flavors of Ise-Shima Toba—a highlight that delighted my family!

    Feels like a journey

    The room was clean, the service was excellent, and the food was delicious. The half lobster for 2000 yen was a great deal! My partner kept going back for more Caprese salad, haha. The accommodation and the large public bath are separate, so you need to walk outside to get there, but the path at night is quite dark. It would have been nice to have a flashlight available in the room for such occasions (apologies if there already was one). However, the private bathroom in our room was very clean and came with L'Occitane amenities, which made up for it. The shuttle service was convenient as well. They even delivered our luggage directly to our room after we sent it via Ise luggage delivery service—very helpful! I’d love to visit again if I go back to Shima.

    The staff seemed flustered.

    Meal time reservations can only be made at check-in, which starts at 3:00 PM. I arrived five minutes before 3:00 PM and completed the check-in process. When asked about my preferred dinner and breakfast times, I shared my preferences but was told, "It's already fully booked." Why? How could it already be full at 3:00 PM when only three staff members were handling the check-ins? The staff explained, "Check-in starts at 3:00 PM, but meal reservations can be made from the morning if you come to the counter." Doesn't this seem a bit inconvenient?

    Mediterranean Travel in Japan!

    This was my first stay, and it was an amazing accommodation. I was initially impressed when the front desk staff came to greet me at the parking lot after I parked my car. Their kindness moved me deeply. Throughout my stay, every staff member I passed greeted me with a smile, which made me feel very happy. The townscape truly resembles the Mediterranean. It felt like I wasn’t in Japan anymore! Even in photos, it looks like being abroad—my friends even asked which country I visited! I had meals both in the morning and evening, and everything I ate was delicious and impressive. I also enjoyed activities; I experienced a sunset cruise. Although we couldn’t see the sunset, the captain made it fun and allowed us to enjoy an extraordinary experience on the sea. There is also an Onsen where you can relax after a full day of activities. However, one minor downside was that the women’s changing room for the Onsen got crowded around the hair dryers. Overall: The hospitality, atmosphere, food, and activities were all excellent! I definitely want to visit again! It was truly worth staying here. Thank you so much!

    I believe this is the best Hotel in the area.

    Stay in a Luxury Suite. The hotel staff welcomes you with refreshing smiles. The Luxury Suite includes a shuttle service with an electric cart, making it easy to move around even with lots of luggage. The special dinner at Rias by Kokotxa, featuring New Basque cuisine, uses ingredients from Ise-Shima and is absolutely delicious. This is a very relaxing hotel. Personally, I think it offers the best value for money among accommodations in Ise-Shima Toba.

    Not what I expected...

    Before our stay, we saw this accommodation featured on TV and had high expectations. However, perhaps due to overly high hopes, the experience was disappointing. The building's aging condition led to a musty smell in the room, cobwebs here and there, and insects—something particularly difficult for us as we dislike bugs. We eventually requested a room change. The staff's response to our request for a room change was appreciated; they handled it without any unpleasant attitude, which was the only saving grace of our stay. We also had high expectations for the meals but were disappointed by cold dishes and slightly dried-out food that seemed prepared too far in advance. None of the dishes were freshly made or served warm as promised. Even the additional-charge lobster had very little meat—another letdown despite it being my birthday during this trip. Although we planned to spend an entire day enjoying activities, we ended up leaving immediately after arriving and again early the next day without doing much at all.

    Stunning Views of Ago Bay and Heartwarming Hospitality from Our Staff

    We stayed at the start of summer vacation. The location is about a 15-minute drive from Ugata Station. The staff were all very kind, with attentive service at the front desk and friendly interactions with children in the restaurant, which made my son very happy. The spa treatment was also excellent. If I may suggest, it would have been nice to have tea or other beverages offered after the spa session. Regarding the Facility, during consecutive days of over 30°C weather, the air conditioner and air purifier in the bedroom on the first floor of our villa-type accommodation were quite noisy, making it difficult to sleep well at night. Turning them off made it too hot, so adjusting was challenging—though this wasn’t an issue during daytime hours. As others mentioned in their reviews, we found that the cookies provided in-room could be improved; however, we enjoyed the coffee! Overall, we loved how well-matched this Hotel is with Ago Bay’s stunning scenery—it was beautiful no matter where you looked! The grounds are spacious and there are still areas we didn’t get to explore this time around; we hope to visit again someday. Thank you for a wonderful stay! Please take care during these hot days ahead!

    Resort Vibes

    The entire Facility was well-maintained and very clean. There was a pool available, free drinks, and the buffet meals were delicious and highly satisfying. The luxurious bath provided a relaxing experience. The Room we stayed in was spacious as it included an entire building (living room on the second floor, bedroom on the first floor). Room amenities were from L'Occitane. Overall, it was a very relaxing stay at this Hotel that helped relieve our fatigue. We would definitely love to stay here again! There were also activities available; we enjoyed an exciting boat ride with a lively captain who made the experience even better!

    Finally visited the ...

    Finally visited the Mediterranean Village I had been curious about for so long! Despite the rainy weather, there were plenty of ways to enjoy the stay, and I was very satisfied. The electronic stamp rally within the facility was especially fun, even at 23 years old—I got completely absorbed in it. The suite villa we stayed in was a spacious two-story accommodation and very comfortable. The room was clean, and I appreciated that there were no insects—a small but significant detail. The large public bath allowed me to relax and recover from travel fatigue. As for the food, I had some concerns about Mediterranean cuisine at first, but it exceeded my expectations—it was surprisingly delicious! It was a buffet-style meal, yet every dish tasted great, which is rare for me. The staff members were incredibly kind; one gentleman who assisted us stood out with his excellent service. We visited to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday, and their thoughtful gesture of storing our cake in the refrigerator during dinner made us feel special. We used a sea taxi on our way there and a shuttle bus on our way back—both were comfortable options that made access convenient. This wonderful stay has left me wanting to visit again during another season! Thank you so much!
