    Enjoy Kusatsu Onsen and exceptional hospitality

    Choosing Naraya as my Accommodation in Kusatsu Onsen was truly the best decision. The Onsen, so carefully maintained by the bath masters, was exceptional, and the atmosphere of the traditional baths was wonderful. It was so relaxing that I soaked in the Onsen five times during my stay and enjoyed a slow, luxurious time. Each dish was delicious, and thanks to the thoughtful explanations about the cuisine, I enjoyed the meal even more. The sushi prepared right in front of me was also excellent and left a lasting impression. Above all, the staff’s hospitality was outstanding. Everyone was courteous and kind, and their attentive care made it clear they genuinely wanted guests to feel comfortable. In every situation throughout my stay, I was warmly looked after, which made my time there truly pleasant. From the ambiance of the Accommodation to the Onsen, dining, and service—everything was superb. It is an Accommodation that made me sincerely feel glad I stayed at Naraya. Thank you very much for such a wonderful experience. When I visit Kusatsu Onsen again, I would love to stay at Naraya.

    The hospitality was exceptional.

    We arrived before check-in, and they kindly stored our luggage for us. They also lent us an umbrella in case it rained. The Room was clean and comfortable. We were very satisfied with the large public bath. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. They stored our luggage again when we checked out, so we could explore the town. When we returned to the Accommodation, there was thunder, and they drove us to the bus stop. All the staff were friendly, helpful, and always smiling. Thanks to them, we had a wonderful trip.

    Perfectly located, this is a historic and prestigious Ryokan.

    From the moment I arrived, I could feel the history and thought the atmosphere was truly wonderful. I didn’t realize it until I got there, but Naraya’s location is exceptionally convenient, making it easy to adjust plans smoothly throughout the trip. The meals and Onsen—everything about the stay—were excellent. One small thing I noticed: perhaps because the staff are so energetic, voices from the kitchen or elsewhere carried quite clearly at times, and parts of conversations could be heard. It might be worth being a little mindful of what is discussed. That said, overall it’s a Ryokan that can only be described as outstanding. It was a great trip, and I’ll likely return. Thank you very much.

    The hot water was excellent.

    I stayed here to enjoy the Onsen carefully managed by the bath attendant. The water felt silky, almost like lotion—it was the best I’ve ever experienced. The food was excellent, but dinner took two and a half hours, so I would have appreciated a shorter pace (the timing of when dishes were served), as we had plans such as an evening walk. I was also happy with the chef’s thoughtful touch—the delicate cucumber dish was wonderful. The Facility was very clean and well maintained.

    Summer Vacation

    I stayed for one night from August 10, 2026. My purpose was to enjoy the Onsen and photograph the starry sky. The Onsen was not too hot, and its benefits were more than sufficient. Last year, when I stayed at a different Hotel, the Onsen was so hot that it was difficult to get in. The meals offered a wide variety and generous portions, but I think the quality could be improved. For stargazing photography, I went to Sai-no-Kawara Park, but the illumination got in the way and I couldn’t take good photos. I should have driven to Kusatsu Ski Resort instead. Thank you.

    We stayed for one night.

    My wife and I visited Kusatsu Onsen for the first time on a 3-day, 2-night trip. This trip was to celebrate my retirement after 31 years with my company. We weren’t sure where to go, but decided on Kusatsu Onsen since neither of us had been there before. We stayed at Naraya for our second night. As it is a well-known Accommodation in Kusatsu and conveniently located near Yubatake, we treated ourselves and made a Reservation for a Plan with breakfast and dinner. The Accommodation was close to Yubatake, and the building had the wonderful atmosphere you would expect from a long-established Ryokan. The service was also extremely polite and attentive—exactly what you’d hope for. Due to unforeseen circumstances, our reserved Room was upgraded at the same price, and we were able to stay in a newly renovated Room that felt like a suite; it was very comfortable. Thank you very much. The meals were also excellent: each dish came with comments on the menu, which showed great thoughtfulness. The food looked beautiful and tasted wonderful as well. Enjoying these dishes while sipping Gunma sake was truly a happy moment for us. We would love to return next summer to heal both body and mind in comfortable Kusatsu, and stay at Naraya again.

    First time in Kusatsu

    Narayas, a long-established Accommodation, was truly comfortable. The meals were delicious both to the eye and the palate, and the free-flowing Onsen from the source was wonderful. I was especially impressed by the cucumber cut into a frog shape in one of the dishes. I really understood why Kusatsu Onsen is so popular. Thank you very much.

    Staying at Naraya fo...

    Staying at Naraya for my first trip to Kusatsu Onsen was truly the best choice. From the moment I arrived until I left, I received warm, heartfelt hospitality in every situation, and I was able to relax and enjoy my stay. The staff’s thoughtful attention to detail could be felt throughout, making this a wonderful Accommodation that made me want to return. Both dinner and breakfast were served in a private dining room, allowing me to take my time in a calm atmosphere. Dinner in particular was outstanding—every dish from the appetizers to the final dessert was delicious, and there were fun touches such as having sushi prepared during the meal. It was such an enjoyable experience that I honestly thought, “I want to come back just for this food.” The Onsen was also excellent; my skin felt wonderfully smooth after bathing, and it may be my favorite water of any Onsen I’ve visited. The location is another highlight—just a short walk to Yubatake—so I enjoyed strolling around many times in the evening, at night, and again the next morning. I was completely satisfied with everything: the cuisine, the Onsen, the service, and the location. There are so many more wonderful things I could mention; it made my first trip to Kusatsu Onsen truly memorable. I would love to stay at Naraya again. Thank you very much for such a lovely time.

    From the parking lot, the Shuttle Service to the Accommodation, the warm welcome upon arrival, guidance to our Room, the meals, and how clean the Room was—everything was perfect. On the drive home, we said we would definitely love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    It was truly a wonderful hot spring and an excellent accommodation.

    Ideally located near Yubatake, this Accommodation has the distinguished atmosphere of a long-established Ryokan, yet the Room has been beautifully renovated and was very comfortable. The meals were excellent—especially the made-to-order nigiri sushi at the end of dinner and the freshly baked croissants in the morning. Since our Reservation was made through IKYU, we received a Room upgrade and a complimentary bottle of wine with dinner; we are grateful to both IKYU and the Accommodation. Thank you very much. Finally, as expected, Kusatsu’s hot springs were outstanding.

    Enjoy Kusatsu Onsen

    It was my first time in a while to fully enjoy an Onsen—truly a wonderful soak! The Yubatake was also nearby, so I had a great time. The parking lot was a bit far, but the Shuttle Service to the Accommodation was excellent.

    Breakfast rice

    Given the limits of a single-serving pot, I still wanted to enjoy multiple refills of delicious rice at breakfast, so it ended up feeling unsatisfying in both taste and portion size.

    Your First Time in Kusatsu Onsen

    It was my first time visiting Kusatsu Onsen, and I stayed at Naraya, a long-established Ryokan with an excellent reputation. I have visited many Onsen Ryokan across the whole country, but the Onsen here was outstanding. With a dedicated bath attendant managing it, the water temperature was just right—comfortable enough to stay in for a long time. Going back and forth between the Room and the Onsen involved stairs, which was a bit tough for me. Our Room had a view of Yubatake, and it looked wonderful at night when illuminated. The meals offered a wide variety of dishes, and it was great to have sushi prepared right in front of us. One small request: since the refrigerator is empty, I would be happy if there were water or tea provided. I would love to visit again.

    Even more satisfied on my return visit

    On our previous stay, my husband and I were truly impressed by both the meals and the Onsen, so we decided to return. The Shirahata hot spring source was incredibly relaxing, and everything about the food was delicious. A couple of minor disappointments: the bath towels weren’t very absorbent, so my hair took a long time to dry, and the rim of the plate for the main dish at dinner was chipped, which dampened my mood a bit. Other than that, every staff member was attentive and considerate, and we had a very comfortable stay. I’d love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    Wonderful Onsen Accommodation

    This was my first time visiting Kusatsu Onsen, and thanks to staying at this Accommodation, it became a truly wonderful memory. The Onsen was excellent, and the service was outstanding.     This Accommodation is centrally located for exploring Kusatsu.

    I visited Kusatsu Onsen for the first time on a trip with my 77-year-old mother. While I had always wanted to go at least once because it’s such a famous hot spring destination, to be honest my expectations were only about halfway there. But once we arrived, it exceeded anything I had imagined. We stayed at Naraya, and what impressed me most was how many staff members were on hand and how kindly they spoke to us in every situation. They were especially attentive to my mother, which I truly appreciated. It was a wonderful Accommodation—calm and refined like a long-established Ryokan, yet filled with warm hospitality. The meals were also excellent. I expected a menu centered mainly on mountain ingredients, but we were also served beautifully prepared sashimi. Every dish was carefully crafted and absolutely delicious. Because the location is just a short walk from Yubatake, we enjoyed strolling both at night and in the morning, taking our time to soak in Kusatsu’s streetscape and Onsen atmosphere. It became a cherished memory with my mother, and it was a trip that made me genuinely want to come back again. Thank you very much.

    Make the most of Japan during your temporary return home.

    I stayed here with a longtime friend while visiting Japan. It was my first time in Kusatsu Onsen, and the Ryokan is right in the heart of the sightseeing area, making it easy to get around. It’s an older Ryokan, but everything inside was very clean and well maintained, so it was comfortable to stay. All of the meals were delicious. Even the sashimi garnish was incredibly fresh and tasty—I ate it all. The Onsen water was smooth and felt wonderful. Next time, I’d like to come with my husband.

    Enjoy the Hot Springs of Kusatsu

    This was my third visit to Kusatsu, and for the first time I booked an Accommodation near the Yubatake and enjoyed strolling around it. The hot spring water was truly wonderful—exactly as expected. A few disappointing points: The bath towels are available in the bathing area, which is convenient, but they seem somewhat worn and not very absorbent. Also, the scale feels outdated and may not be accurate. As for meals, breakfast was more than sufficient and even included a bread service, but at dinner it took about 10 minutes for drinks to arrive (were we forgotten?), and the final nigiri sushi came about 70 minutes after we started. The presentation and taste were excellent, but I felt the portions were insufficient. Regarding service, I was surprised there was no explanation of where the emergency exits were, and that we were told to wait on the landing without any guidance about where dinner would be served. Since this is a good Facility, I think at least minimal necessary explanations are important.

    Naraya Accommodation

    For my first trip to Kusatsu, I chose Naraya from among many Accommodations. The staff were very pleasant and welcoming, and even though it was only one night, I felt truly refreshed. The food was carefully prepared with great attention to detail, and it was delicious—you could really feel the care behind it. I was very satisfied. The Onsen had the kind of water I love, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Naraya is an Accommodation I’d love to visit again.

    The Best Accommodation

    With two hot spring attendants on site, the baths were excellent, and the Facility was beautifully maintained—an outstanding Accommodation. The meals were delicious and a feast for the eyes as well. As a long-established Ryokan, it has an atmosphere that international guests will also appreciate. I would love to stay again.

    The food was delicious, and the hot springs were wonderful.

    We enjoyed a relaxing time during our Multiple Night Stay. The meals were outstanding. The flavors and variety were so satisfying that even our generation could enjoy every last bite. Both dinner and breakfast were completely different on the first and second days, which made it even more enjoyable. The wide variety of vegetables was wonderful. Also, having tatami throughout—from the entrance to the hallways, elevators, and more—and only using slippers in the restroom was a first for us and felt great. The staff were kind and attentive as well; thank you very much.

    An Accommodation where you can feel heartfelt hospitality

    I stayed for one night. I’ve visited Kusatsu Onsen several times, but this was my first time staying in the central area. This time I stayed at “Naraya” near Yubatake, and it let me enjoy the familiar Onsen town in a whole new way. The Room had been relatively recently renovated and was clean, comfortable, and pleasant to stay in. The amenities were well stocked with everything I needed. The bath is the famous “Shogun Okumiage-no-Yu,” fed by Shirahata Gensen—needless to say, it was excellent. Dinner featured mainly Japanese cuisine in just the right portions, and for the surprise sushi I ended up taking you up on your offer and ordering quite a lot… thank you very much. Breakfast was also a satisfying Japanese meal in both quality and quantity. During my stay at “Naraya,” every member of staff treated me warmly and made me feel very welcome. I also didn’t realize how wonderful staying in the heart of the Onsen town could be. I’d love to visit again in a different season. P.S. Sorry for the trouble regarding the Diamond benefit. It arrived safely the next day. Thank you very much.

    Naraya is the best!

    Naraya was wonderful. It was our first stay, and the food, the Onsen, and everyone at the Hotel were kind and welcoming—it was truly a happy three days and two nights. It became a great memory for my mother and me. My mother was delighted and said she would love to stay at Naraya again. My husband, who gave us this trip as a gift, was also very happy, so I would like to express my heartfelt thanks. Thank you very much.

    The price and the services provided do not match at all.

    I am a man in my mid-40s. I stay at Ryokan of this class 4–5 times a year all over The whole country. I have never posted a Review in my life, but the service here was so poor and so far from worth the price that I decided to write this in the hope it helps those considering this Accommodation. This was my first visit to Kusatsu Onsen, and I stayed at Naraya—an inn that prides itself on 150 years of history—with my family of five (myself, my wife, my mother-in-law, and our two children aged 8 and 5). After completing check-in, a man who seemed to be the head attendant (mid-50s) escorted us to our Room, calling out things like “Mr. ___, okay then—this way,” in a tone more like a coach leading students than staff welcoming guests. Once we arrived at the Room, there was no explanation at all. The lamps and kotatsu had all been unplugged; every outlet had been pulled; no heating was on; and the Room felt chilly. The building and Room had a nice atmosphere—a blend of 90-year-old character with renovations. For dinner, we were given a private dining room. It was a tatami room with tables set up. Two hot carpets were laid on the floor, but again every plug had been pulled out; even the heater provided was unplugged; and the room felt cold. We had informed them in advance that we would be staying with elementary-school-aged children, yet our children were served exactly the same menu as adults. Even if you accept that point, their dishes also contained wasabi—something they obviously could not eat. I complained to the attendant. The same head attendant who escorted us after check-in came to apologize but said they could not change the meal contents. I understand that—and accepted it as unavoidable. However, when dessert was served they also brought our children the same piping-hot tea as for adults—again something children cannot reasonably drink. As for taste: both dinner and breakfast were neither particularly good nor bad for an Accommodation in this price range. The sushi prepared right in front of us at dinner was good, as were the freshly baked croissants with sweet bean paste butter at breakfast. Overall: careless service with not even a hint of hospitality. A long-established Ryokan resting on its laurels thanks only to its prime location just 1–2 minutes’ walk from Yubatake. Their “150-year history” is nothing to boast about—it is embarrassing at this level.

    I was impressed by the soft, soothing hot water that felt like it gently enveloped my body.

    I was truly impressed by the soft, gentle water that seemed to envelop my body—completely different from the Kusatsu hot springs I had experienced before. It was the first time I really understood the importance of the bath steward’s work. The meals were also delicious, and my wife and I were both very satisfied. We would love to stay again.
