    Wonderful

    Because our stay at Yamado last winter was such a wonderful experience, we returned again this winter. Once again, the comfort of the room, the kindness and professionalism of the staff, and the delicious meals left us with beautiful memories. We would also like to offer our special thanks for preparing yoga mats for us and for remembering that we enjoy lemon water—your thoughtfulness truly meant a lot to us.     A Heartwarming Accommodation

    Following my visit during the autumn foliage season, I returned to Yukino Yamabito. I was completely satisfied with my previous stay, but this time exceeded it and truly moved me. The staff’s attentive service, the thoughtfully crafted cuisine that values local ingredients, and the open-air bath surrounded by snowy scenery—all of it left a lasting impression. I sincerely hope to visit again. Lastly, when heavy snowfall caused disruptions such as the Kitakami Line being suspended, your utmost consideration was incredibly helpful. Thank you very much.     Wonderful

    A wonderful Accommodation. The Room, hospitality, and meals were all excellent. The Onsen was also great—an Accommodation with a very high level of satisfaction in every way. It was a bit disappointing that the private bath time was only 30 minutes; I wish it were at least 10–15 minutes longer. I would definitely like to visit again.

    Breathtaking snowy scenery and delicious meals

    We stayed during a period when the whole country was hit by an exceptionally severe and prolonged cold wave, and people were being urged to avoid non-essential outings. The Kitakami Line had been suspended for days, so we had been worried well in advance, but on the day of our stay Yamado contacted us and kindly picked us up at Kitakami Station. This is a truly appreciated service during the snowy season. We enjoyed a Multiple Night Stay, and since this Accommodation is in a heavy-snow area, we fully enjoyed the powerful scenery from the snow-viewing bath throughout our stay. The meals featured fresh vegetables and other locally sourced ingredients, and everything was delicious. We also thought it was excellent service that they asked about portion size before serving. The snow lanterns lit up at night were beautiful as well, making for wonderful memories. Breakfast could be ordered to suit our preferences, and we were able to try their specialty Nishiwara-bi too. As we don’t often have opportunities to visit heavy-snow regions, we asked the staff about life in snowy areas; everyone was very pleasant, shared many insights with us, and made our time truly enjoyable. The Onsen was at a comfortable temperature, the Room was cozy, and the staff were kind—overall a very comfortable stay. It’s quite far so opportunities are limited, but we would definitely like to visit again. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

    I’d love to stay here again.

    Revisiting from Ehime for the first time in a year

    I visited at the end of February last year and returned because the snowy scenery was beautiful and the staff were very welcoming. The service from all staff, especially during mealtimes, was excellent, and the food was delicious—this Accommodation has become an even bigger favorite. I would like to visit again next year.

    It was a great trip.

    The snowy Onsen was incredibly soothing. This was my second visit, and this time I came with my family of three, so we were able to relax and enjoy an easygoing, unhurried stay. Being able to soak in the Onsen while watching the snow fall was truly healing. Every dish was delicious and we left completely full. In the latter half of the meal, we could choose portion adjustments, and breakfast had changed to a system where you can add as much of what you want as you like. I thought it was a great idea because we could finish everything without wasting any food. One disappointment was that the Room was very hot; even after turning off or adjusting the heating, it didn’t change much, and my sleep became light. Since good sleep is important to me when staying at an Accommodation, that was unfortunate. It may have been out of consideration because it was a cold day. Overall, I was very satisfied. The dinner presentation—such as lighting candles on shelves made from snow—was creative and made for an enjoyable trip. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

    Accommodation you'll want to revisit

    Before our stay, we exchanged several emails with the staff, and their polite and attentive responses made us look forward to this accommodation even more. With only a few rooms available, it was quiet and peaceful. The private bath in the room was incredibly relaxing, and we enjoyed it multiple times. The meals were satisfying in both quantity and taste, with the vegetables being especially fresh and flavorful—some of the best we've ever had. We hope to visit again during the snowy season.

    After visiting Chuso...

    After visiting Chusonji Temple, we extended our trip and stayed here. During this season, the drive was enjoyable with autumn leaves along the way. The accommodation lived up to its reputation, not only in terms of facilities but also with the warm and attentive service from all staff, making our stay very pleasant. The room was just the right size, and the bath was spacious enough for a relaxing soak—very comfortable overall. However, it was slightly disappointing that the toilet was not separate from the washroom (though it seems this is not the case for all rooms). The open-air bath offers a relaxing experience while enjoying beautiful views. However, popular time slots fill up quickly, so early check-in is recommended. Both dinner and breakfast were delightful. Local ingredients were used abundantly; while mains were excellent as expected, even vegetables stood out as particularly delicious. The unique option menu at breakfast added an interesting touch. Many of the serving staff appeared to be non-Japanese but provided friendly and attentive service. If given another opportunity, I would love to visit again in winter to enjoy snow-covered scenery.

    My husband declared he wants to come back!

    The hospitality was excellent. Both the facility and the Room were sophisticated, and the heated floors were warm. The food was simple yet focused on quality ingredients, and it was quite delicious. We had to leave a bit early in the morning, and they kindly started breakfast earlier for us, which was very helpful. It was comfortable throughout our stay, and my husband said he would definitely come back again.

    Late Autumn Accommodation and Murmuring Stream

    The autumn leaves were nearing their end, but I was able to stay in the long-awaited Katsura Room of the accommodation. The room was decent, but the semi-open-air bath (with a stone tub) attached to the room and the private bath (made of Towada stone) had a charming atmosphere that matched the stream, making it the best accommodation I've stayed at in Iwate Prefecture. The ambiance of the dining area was also top-notch. The draft beer made with hops from Tono and locally produced yogurt were absolutely delicious—I even bought some at a roadside station because they were so good. There were few insects due to the season, and insecticide and tape were provided just in case, which was reassuring. The cookies in the room (from a local warabi mochi specialty shop) were incredibly tasty and left quite an impression on me. However, I had trouble with adjusting the TV sound as it played through a soundbar; even using its remote control didn’t lower the volume. In my dimly lit room, I only found out in the morning that there was a small dedicated remote next to it—this gave me a chuckle. With proper bear precautions and public relations efforts by staff, there wasn’t any sense of unease during my stay. Instead, I felt relaxed by both late-autumn scenery and soothing streams while being uplifted by staff smiles—a truly wonderful trip!

    It was relaxing.

    This was an accommodation I had always wanted to stay at. The service was excellent, living up to its reputation, and I was very satisfied. The meals were particularly outstanding. Fresh and vibrant vegetables, a variety of seasonal mushrooms, meat, fish, and multigrain rice—all thoughtfully prepared with attention to the season and health—were deeply nourishing. The staff's kind hospitality, extensive knowledge, and meticulous care made the dining experience truly delightful. The room's onsen as well as the open-air bath were clean and provided a peaceful retreat. The amenities were more than sufficient, earning high praise from my wife.     I live in Kobe and often visit various onsen with open-air baths in Arima Onsen and across the whole country, but I have never encountered such fresh and unique cuisine that focuses so much on local ingredients as this accommodation. The current chef is a local who has trained in Italian cuisine. The room shows some signs of age but is well-cleaned, and the staff, mainly locals along with people from Nepal and America, provided attentive service. Highly recommended accommodation.

    This time, I stayed with my husband and mother! My mother especially loves the Onsen and meals at Yamabito. She usually has a small appetite, but she finishes every meal at Yamabito. Next year, we would like to stay at Yamabito in Oga.

    100% Satisfaction - An Accommodation Worth Visiting Again and Again, No Matter the Distance

    I had always wanted to stay here, and my wish finally came true this time. My expectations were very high, but my satisfaction was 100%—even beyond that. The meals were crafted with great care for the ingredients, and the creative dishes prepared in ways I had never experienced before were all delicious—I ended up eating more than I should have. Alongside the food, there was a wide selection of drinks to enjoy, including alcohol options that left me fully satisfied. Even when it came to the final drink selection, there were so many choices that I opted for dandelion coffee but noticed an extensive variety of herbal teas as well. The attention to detail in offering such a diverse range of beverages from start to finish reflected the chef's dedication and passion for providing guests with exceptional dining experiences. The welcome drink was kuromoji tea—a first for me—and it showcased their refined sense of hospitality. The late-night snack was also incredibly tasty. As for breakfast, unlike many accommodations where it is simpler compared to dinner, this place offered an equally impressive experience with customizable menu options that were both delicious and memorable. All staff members were kind and welcoming; even though we arrived late, they greeted us warmly without any sign of inconvenience, which made us feel at ease. With enjoyable meals, relaxing onsen facilities, and a tranquil atmosphere overall—it’s no surprise why this accommodation has so many repeat visitors. Although it's far away and difficult to visit frequently, I am determined to return again someday!

    Stay-in Retreat

    I booked this accommodation for my hardworking husband, and it was perfect for a relaxing stay. The hallways inside the facility are designed to feel like you're exploring nature, with some ups and downs in the stairs. There is no elevator, so it might be challenging for elderly guests. However, I personally prefer accommodations without elevators as they feel more authentic and less modernized. The room was spacious and clean, but there were two spiders in the corner of the ceiling above the bed that my husband had to remove. It would be great if ceilings could also be checked during cleaning. The food was delightful! The sauce for the bagna cauda was so delicious that I ended up asking for seconds twice. The vegetables were fresh and excellent as well! The private open-air bath was amazing; however, some walking areas were slippery, making me almost fall. The wooden floor on the riverside (not due to fallen leaves) and even inside some lighting fixtures were dirty. If these areas could be cleaned more thoroughly, it would make things absolutely perfect. We had a very relaxing time here. Thank you so much!

    This was my first stay. I reserved a maisonette-type room for three family members, and they prepared three beds in the loft for us. Both dinner and breakfast were extremely satisfying. Each dish was carefully prepared, and the vegetable bagna cauda made with produce from their own farm delighted our entire family. During trips, we often lack vegetables, so it was great to replenish them all at once. The bacon served at breakfast was unforgettable, and I hope to visit again. I'd also like to try staying at the accommodation in Oga someday.

    A hotel nestled in the mountains, we were warmly welcomed upon arrival. The lobby had a charming ambiance, and the room was a comfortable space to relax. The sounds of birds and insects, along with the misty weather that day, created picturesque views of the mountains shrouded in fog. The Onsen was delightful; both the private Onsen in our room and the reserved bath surrounded by trees were exceptional. The sound of a nearby stream added to the serene atmosphere, allowing us to unwind completely. The meals were outstanding, especially the bagna cauda, soft-shelled turtle dish, and multigrain rice. The vegetables were fresh and sweetly flavorful. We enjoyed dining at a table thoughtfully arranged for conversation while overlooking the garden outside. The staff kindly explained each dish with care, making it a truly wonderful experience. From our arrival to our departure send-off, all staff members provided warm hospitality that made this Hotel feel incredibly welcoming and comfortable. One small note: there was some moss growing in front of our room on a water channel (used for melting snow). It would be even better if it could be cleaned up; however, considering it as part of nature also has its charm! My wife and I have already promised each other to return for another stay here soon.     Visited again

    The unforgettable experience of my husband's birthday month last year brought us back this time for my birthday month. We were looking forward to revisiting during a different season because the meals are exceptional, but we never expected such an abundant use of local mountain vegetables in the middle of summer. We thoroughly enjoyed favorites like fiddlehead ferns and koshiabura. Since I couldn’t finish everything last time, I requested smaller portions, but with the variety of dishes and ingredients used, we were still completely satisfied and full. After dinner, I received a surprise birthday gift. Although I don’t recall mentioning it, it seems they noted it from last year’s guestbook. The thoughtful hospitality truly moved me. The sound of the river stream, fireflies, birdsong, greenery against the blue sky, and a star-filled night sky— being surrounded by nature was healing. The staff's meticulous care for their guests and dedication to preserving this accommodation made our stay exceptionally satisfying once again. Lastly, there was an intriguing phenomenon that occurred during our stay. A staff member posted about it on Instagram—please check it out! It was a moment that reminded me how amazing nature can be. I look forward to visiting again!

    It was a wonderful Ryokan where you can enjoy meals and baths.

    We stayed as a group of three, including my wife and mother. First, we were amazed by the meals. Being from a neighboring prefecture, I was familiar with mountain vegetables, but the dishes here were so intricately prepared that I enjoyed flavors I had never experienced before. Instead of common dishes like sashimi or steak, we were able to savor cuisine unique to this location. It was very satisfying. Both breakfast and dinner allowed us to control portions ourselves, making it a great option for both big eaters and those with smaller appetites. We enjoyed both the Onsen in our room and the private open-air bath; the quality of the water seemed excellent and left us feeling thoroughly warmed. If I had to make one suggestion, it would be that offering massage services could enhance the experience even further. Also, my wife is not fond of frogs and was startled by frequent encounters on the pathway to the open-air bath; some consideration in this regard might be appreciated (though we understand it's part of being surrounded by nature). Since our visit was just before summer, mountain vegetables dominated the menu. We heard that summer features seasonal vegetables while autumn highlights mushrooms—this makes us eager to return during different seasons. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

    Unmatched Hospitality

    Heard great reviews and decided to visit, eager to stay. I pride myself on staying at highly-rated accommodations, but this one ranks in my top three. First, the onsen. The water quality seems to be sodium-rich, leaving a silky smooth feeling on the skin. The temperature of the room's private onsen was too hot (understandable since it's high-temperature natural spring water), so I added some cold water reluctantly. Even then, it felt wonderfully smooth. The private open-air bath had perfect temperature and offered a liberating experience. However... at night, it became a haven for insects. Being in the mountains makes this unavoidable, but perhaps installing insect-repellent lights could make nighttime bathing more enjoyable. As for meals—absolutely flawless. Dinner was exceptional in quantity, quality, and service—everything was top-notch. Breakfast allowed me to eat as much as I liked from my favorites; though being older now meant I didn’t overindulge, it still left me completely satisfied. Service throughout my stay was impeccable—attentive down to every detail and truly thoughtful. I look forward to visiting again during another season!

    During the season of fresh greenery

    This time, we visited during the fresh green season. As always, the fresh vegetables, delicious bagna càuda, appetizers, shorthorn beef, nemagari bamboo shoots, and warabi—all locally sourced—were delightful. The highlight was the Kichiji fish simmered in soft-shelled turtle soup; the soup was exquisite and paired perfectly with the Kichiji fish. Adding rice to the remaining soup made it even more satisfying. Despite being full, we enjoyed Yamabito-style hitsumabushi with dashi broth served in Nambu ironware—it was so delicious that we finished it all with great satisfaction. We had wonderful conversations with the staff and relaxed in the onsen while enjoying Nishiwaga's lush greenery for a truly memorable stay. Yamabito is a fantastic accommodation both in snowy winters and during this vibrant green season. Next time, I hope to visit between summer and autumn!

    Third stay

    Despite the unfortunate rainy weather, our stay was an absolutely blissful and satisfying experience. "Yamabito" truly delivers a level of satisfaction that exceeds expectations. The only drawback is the one-way distance of approximately 320 km from home, but we were already planning our next visit as soon as we returned!

    Relaxing Accommodation

    I stayed for 2 nights and had a very relaxing stay. The staff's hospitality was very kind and pleasant. The dinner on the second day was especially wonderful. However, the room was a maisonette type, and I found the stairs to be steep, and the step difference where the futon was laid on the second floor to be quite large, which seemed a bit dangerous. Also, the ceiling near the bedside was low, so both my husband and I bumped our heads. Nevertheless, the onsen was delightful, and it was a very lovely accommodation. I would love to try staying in another room next time!

    We stayed at the accommodation for our wedding anniversary, but we almost tripped twice on the step at the room entrance. Additionally, it was disappointing that the path to the open-air bath had many stairs and was quite long. As elderly guests, we felt tired by the time we returned to our room after using the bath.

    This time, I gifted my married daughter and her husband a stay at your accommodation. I received a call beforehand asking if there were any special requests, so I asked for a dessert plate. When it comes to Yamado, it's all about the winter snow-viewing bath. Although their schedule only allowed them to visit at the end of March, there was still snow on the ground and even an igloo. The next day, they enjoyed a private open-air bath while it started snowing—allowing them to experience the snow-viewing bath as well. Since they took their time enjoying dinner, they missed their 8:30 PM private open-air bath reservation. However, the risotto and dessert were kindly brought to their room instead, which made them very happy. The staff member with a beginner's badge was incredibly kind and took great care of them from start to finish. They even took photos capturing moments like their back view—this level of hospitality deeply moved both of them! As always, they said the meals were delicious and that the room was wonderful too. When I stayed previously, there were juices available but no beer or vending machines; so I had advised them in advance to bring beer if they'd want some after bathing—but this time beer was provided! Thank you for that thoughtful improvement. Both of them loved their stay so much that they called me afterward to express gratitude—it made me glad I chose Yamado for this gift. We hope to visit again this winter as well! Thank you very much for taking such great care of us this time around!
