Unfortunately, it was unsuccessful.
We stayed here for the second night of our two-night trip to enjoy the autumn leaves around Tanigawa-dake and its Onsen. The first night was at an accommodation that was about 20% cheaper than this one, with decent reviews. However, unexpectedly, everything from the private Onsen in the room to the view, meals, and staff hospitality exceeded our expectations. Perhaps because of that experience, our expectations for this accommodation were raised too high, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a very disappointing stay. A foreign staff member guided us (they seemed to be trying their best), but there were no explanations about amenities or facilities; we had to search around ourselves. We couldn’t find tabi socks or room wear and asked a staff member about it. They didn’t seem to understand what "tabi" meant and told us they weren’t provided. As a result, we spent the night in unfamiliar yukata robes. The meals were simple but lacked any sense of excitement and didn’t feel worth the price paid. Before leaving, while checking for forgotten items, we found room wear and tabi socks tucked away in a drawer inside the closet—this discovery left us sighing deeply. We rely on IKYU.com reviews when visiting Onsen accommodations twice a month on average; however, this time was unfortunately a disappointment.

I had a relaxing time.
I stayed here during my trip to climb Mount Tanigawa. It was a quiet and relaxing accommodation. The bath and meals were excellent. Especially the meals, which were not overly extravagant but offered a perfect portion of delicious mountain village cuisine instead of overwhelming quantities often seen elsewhere. The adjustment of the water temperature in the room's bath was promptly handled as well. However, one minor issue was the lack of a place to hang bath towels, which was slightly inconvenient.

Iwana Rice and Shibata Wheat Gluten
Enjoy Ayu Cuisine! I have stayed twice in a reasonably priced room without an open-air bath, with the main purpose of enjoying ayu cuisine. It has been three years since I could no longer find that room or the ayu cuisine. This time, I obtained a limited-time coupon from IKYU and decided to splurge a little by making an early reservation for the INAKA Suite in the main building. A pleasant surprise was that "Iwana" (char) replaced the ayu cuisine, which had apparently ended a few days prior. By chance, my spouse and I were able to compare "salt-grilled" and "deep-fried" iwana dishes, and for an additional fee, we enjoyed "iwana rice cooked with seasonings." The rice balls prepared for nighttime were delicious even when cold! If it's in season, I highly recommend trying both the deep-fried iwana and seasoned rice. The hot pot dish was made solely with various mushrooms—light yet satisfying without being heavy on the stomach. Both dinner and breakfast featured gentle flavors that we finished completely. The accommodation was truly quiet inside and out, allowing us to relax fully. Here are some points where things felt slightly off or might have caused inconvenience: - At first, we misunderstood as well; however, please note that Naobun does not offer “free-flowing” hot springs (this is not mentioned in their basic information). As fans of free-flowing baths ourselves, this was disappointing; however, their bathtubs along with surrounding areas—including shower rooms equipped with built-in benches—were functional and thoughtfully designed compared to accommodations relying solely on free-flowing baths. We found them very comfortable to use. - The “Kobushi” suite we stayed in this time had independent spaces for its bathroom (open-air bath), dressing area/bedroom separated by non-transparent doors or partitions; however other INAKA Suites seem equipped differently—with transparent glass doors allowing views of open-air baths from dressing areas etc., based on photos available on IKYU.com’s site which make distinguishing between these two types difficult at times. Depending upon group size/composition contacting Naobun directly may help clarify details better beforehand. Immediately after returning home ordered Shibata Fu featured during breakfast small bowls via website recommended female staff member? After trial/error attempts finally managed replicate soft chewy texture close original third try grateful discovering unfamiliar ingredients enhancing dining experiences overall hope revisit during next iwana season meet new culinary delights again someday! Lastly young female staff assisting dinner service sincere apologies any unintended rudeness stay healthy thank much care provided truly appreciated!

Although the property seemed fully booked, we didn't encounter other guests and enjoyed a peaceful escape from the city's hustle and bustle. Very satisfied. As for the open-air bath, it can't be helped, but being summer, there were some insects...

Second visit this year. With new staff members, the atmosphere was lively. For us, who want to enjoy the delicacies of Gunma's remote mountains, this is the best accommodation. Although ayu season had ended, the flavors were richer and the kamameshi was particularly memorable and delicious. We are always amazed at how incredible it is even without seafood.

A Relaxing Accommodation
We were able to relax at a leisurely pace. Next time, we’d like to take our time and enjoy the garden as well.

A wonderful accommodation you'll want to revisit.
I enjoyed the semi-open-air bath and stayed at the accommodation called Kaidou. Although it is a detached building, a covered corridor with screens connects it to the main building, so there’s no need to worry about rain or snow. I was concerned about the stairs at the entrance, but they were gentle and had handrails, so I managed to reach them without trouble. Even for those like me who have concerns about their legs, this place should be fine. This accommodation reflects the dedication of its owner, who seems like a multi-talented "superman" handling everything with care and attention to detail. The mountain-style cuisine made with local and seasonal ingredients was full of originality that you can’t find elsewhere—everything was delicious and just right in portion size. The salt-grilled char fish, my favorite dish, was the best I’ve ever had! The homemade plum wine was also delightful. Although taking a regular train for two hours after transferring at Takasaki felt far away initially, I ended up making another reservation because I wanted to enjoy that mountain-style cuisine (especially the salt-grilled char fish) again. One thing that bothered me slightly was the smell in the restroom due to no deodorizer being available. Other than that, everything else was perfect!

For your wedding anniversary
Meals were plentiful both at dinner and breakfast, leaving us completely satisfied. The dinner was thoughtfully prepared, even offering rice balls as a late-night snack, which was a very considerate touch. The dishes featured plenty of fresh local vegetables and were absolutely delicious. The staff's attentiveness and care were also excellent. The bathwater was slightly lukewarm, but it became pleasantly warm after soaking for a while, even on chilly nights. I did wonder if it might feel cold during the winter season but still enjoyed the experience. However, one disappointment was the yukata provided—it had an unpleasant smell from previous use, which made it impossible for me to wear comfortably. Especially for women's yukata, I hope more attention can be given to this issue in the future. Without this problem, everything would have been perfect!

Fried ayu fish is highly recommended.
This was my first time using this accommodation. Despite the rain upon arrival, I appreciated being greeted with a large umbrella at the car. The explanation given by the staff member with a beginner's mark was cheerful and heartwarming. The room was spacious, clean, and had a pleasant scent of new tatami mats, making it very comfortable. While I was looking forward to enjoying the onsen in our reserved room, the water flow in the bath was minimal and didn’t feel like a true flowing onsen experience, which was slightly disappointing. However, I found solace in listening to the sound of the nearby river stream. In addition to having an open-air bath in our room, there were private baths available that could be used if unoccupied—a system that allowed for multiple uses and seemed very convenient. The provided soaps had a subtle citrus fragrance that complemented rather than overpowered the onsen experience. Meals featured fresh seasonal ingredients sourced locally and were absolutely delicious. The deep-fried ayu fish was something I tried for the first time—it surprised me with its juiciness and flavor! While I also enjoyed it grilled with salt, next time I'll opt for my portion to be deep-fried again. As for areas of improvement: one panel of wood from our open-air bath’s wall had come loose. Although it didn’t seem like privacy would be compromised, it gave an uneasy feeling as insects might enter—I hope this can be fixed soon. Additionally, construction work (likely related to expansion) started around 8 AM with bulldozer noise and exhaust smells—this felt unfortunate as we came here seeking tranquility away from urban life; starting at 9:30 AM or later would have been preferable. Another point worth mentioning is during check-in when staff carried luggage directly to rooms ahead of us instead of accompanying guests personally; we navigated using an accommodation map provided at reception while finding written instructions about room facilities inside upon arrival. Even welcome treats (manju?) were placed in refrigerators unnoticed unless checked—while efficient overall; this process felt somewhat impersonal compared to more interactive hospitality experiences where local stories are shared by staff members during conversations beyond basic explanations. Despite these minor concerns overall impression remains positive regarding such wonderful accommodations! If given another opportunity surely revisit someday soon again thank you much appreciated hospitality extended throughout stay!

Season of Ayu Fish
Visited in mid-June. Dinner followed the usual flow with local vegetables, river fish dishes, pork dishes, and hot pot. The healthy flavors were enhanced by the rich taste of sweetfish (ayu), pork, and chicken, making it incredibly delicious. I later learned that this is the best season for ayu; while the ingredients certainly played a role, everything was simply outstanding. I would be delighted to visit again during this time next year. By the way, a new staff member, Q-san, has joined. It’s wonderful to have someone come all the way from overseas to Minakami. Looking forward to seeing them again!

The ultimate relaxation and complete satisfaction. From check-in to check-out, the staff's courteous service was truly soothing. We stayed for one night from Sunday to Monday and were able to enjoy the private bath multiple times. The Room had a beautiful view of green maple leaves. Next time, I’d love to stay with my family during the autumn foliage season. I wonder if it can accommodate four adults?

Visited again with my 1-year-old. It was absolutely amazing!
Previously, I visited this accommodation with my husband while I was pregnant and was deeply impressed. This time, we revisited as a family with our 1-year-4-month-old son. The room's interior and the private bath were just as impressive as before, providing a very comfortable stay. Above all, the service for our son exceeded expectations. During meals, we were provided with a private room equipped with tatami space, along with a chair and dining set for our son. He seemed to enjoy himself immensely. At dinner time, after putting our son to sleep on the tatami space, my husband and I could enjoy a relaxed meal together. For breakfast, they even prepared rice and vegetable soup (kenchin-jiru) for him. The relaxation area "Keyaki" was also clean and well-maintained. It had an excellent selection of manga that I wanted to read and drinks made from real fruit pulp or juice that added to the satisfaction of spending time there. The room itself was impeccably clean again this time, allowing us to have another wonderful experience that makes us want to visit again in the future.

Thank you for your patronage.
This was my first time staying at this accommodation. Regarding the room's bathroom, it was unfortunate that the glass door made changing visible. Since this group was work-related, I felt a bit embarrassed and couldn't fully enjoy using it. However, the private bath being free of charge was a great alternative, and we mostly used that instead. The vegetables in the meals were very delicious, and I got to try ingredients I don't usually eat. The breakfast was healthy and very satisfying as well. The staff members were all wonderful and provided excellent service with a pleasant attitude. I would love to stay here again in the future. However, for this group of people, that particular room might not be ideal...

Highly Satisfied!
This was my first time staying here. The atmosphere of the Room and the view from the Room were excellent. The food was very delicious, and I was extremely satisfied! The bath was also amazing! The staff provided great service as well. I felt refreshed and had a relaxing time away from daily fatigue. I would love to visit again.

In February, I staye...
In February, I stayed in the 70 sqm INAKA Suite with an open-air bath in the main building. I was looking forward to enjoying the snow-view Onsen, and the Room was very spacious and the Onsen was pleasant. However, not much snow could be seen from the bath. I would like to comment on three points that I think could be improved for a better experience. 1. A staff member carried my hand luggage (bag) but placed it on the floor without consulting me, which was disappointing. I realized that in future visits to an Onsen, I should carry my own luggage. It would be nice if staff could inform guests before placing items on the floor. 2. The shower temperature in the Room did not get hot (even at maximum temperature it felt around 37 degrees), so washing hair and body felt cold. Is this due to seasonal reasons? 3. During dinner, I expressed interest in purchasing a plate from the souvenir corner as there were only two left in stock; hence, I requested to pay during checkout next day. The staff agreed and responded that they would secure it behind for me until then. However, next day when visiting souvenir corner again found desired plates still displayed; upon asking staff seemed unaware of arrangement made priorly also noticed three plates instead of two allowing choice among designs which wasn’t communicated earlier nor followed up by any supportive comments leaving disappointment behind. Since this Ryokan wasn't inexpensive expectations were high leading towards considerable dissatisfaction experienced overall though initially hesitated commenting hoping improvements occur ensuring future guests avoid similar feelings encountered here today thank you!

The snowy scenery was beautiful.
It was my first time using this place. The meals featured many local ingredients and were quite healthy, but I still felt full. The Onsen water was just right, and my body felt warm and cozy after soaking. I would love to visit again.

A property that stands out in the snowy landscape.
We chose this Stays to drive on snowy roads, but we were a bit surprised by the heavy snow on the day. We were grateful for the very kind welcome in the heavy snow. The Room was clean, and the open-air bath with flowing hot spring water was excellent. The food was also excellent.

The snowy scenery is very beautiful.
I stayed in a suite with an open-air bath in the main building. The Room was very spacious, and the open-air bath overlooking the garden was wonderful. Soaking in the open-air bath while viewing the pure white snowy landscape allowed me to feel the season and deeply appreciate the arrival of a new year. The meals were delicious and filling. I would love to visit again.

We were provided with highly refined cuisine!
Is it to increase the unit price? It seems that many properties prepare expensive ingredients rather than delicious ones. Expensive ingredients taste bad! That's how I feel. In contrast, the food at this property is delicious! Meals are a big factor in a good stay.

The detached semi-open-air bath is excellent.
The room was relatively compact, but the surroundings were very quiet and secluded. The semi-open-air bath had a perfectly sized tub, and I used it many times. I also used the private bath, but the bath in the room was more than enough to enjoy. The sparkling wine and sake served upon arrival were delicious. My beer-loving companion seemed a bit lonely, though. The massage chair was the latest model? It felt great. The staff were also very pleasant. The meals were gentle on the body with local vegetables, but I felt like something was missing. It was my first time having such sweet paprika. Thank you for the serene space and time away from the hustle and bustle.

It was quiet and relaxing.
In early August, I stayed in a room called the Main Building Open-Air Bath ZEN Suite [Kikyo]. It is on the second floor and only accessible by stairs. Before our stay, we mentioned wanting to eat ayu fish, and at check-in, we were told we could choose between grilled or deep-fried ayu, which was a pleasant surprise. The meals incorporated seasonal and local ingredients, and everything was delicious. However, the breakfast was a bit too seasoned, and there were some dishes that made me wonder, so I thought perhaps the chef was different from the one at dinner. The room was very spacious and relaxing, making me feel as if I were at home. The room's bath is also an onsen, with a rocking chair in the changing area and a bath TV, providing every comfort. There is also a relaxing space with free drinks. There is no large public bath, but there are three private open-air baths. The building seems to be old, and there were some areas where the hallway smelled a bit, but it was a quiet and cozy property.

Excellent
I visited with my family. The room with an open-air bath was spacious, clean, and calming. The service, which was not overly excessive, was pleasantly comfortable. Above all, the food was wonderful, and the presentation was stylish, exceeding our expectations. It would have been nice to have bottled water provided in the room, and it was a bit disappointing that there was only one key, so we couldn't move around separately as a family. However, the food was so delicious that I would love to visit again.

We thoroughly enjoyed both the room with an open-air bath and the meals.
I booked Naobun with the desire to relax in a room with a hot spring, especially an open-air bath. It turned out to be a great decision. We arrived a little later than the scheduled check-in time, but the reservation was confirmed, and the room guidance was smooth. The welcome drink was prepared as a free drink in the resting area, and we enjoyed it leisurely until the scheduled time. We headed to our room while looking at the well-maintained courtyard. The room was also well-maintained, allowing us to enjoy our stay comfortably. We visited at the end of summer, and the trees were still lush and green. I imagined it would have a different beauty during the autumn leaves or snow season... The entire building has a calming Japanese-style design combining wood and stone. We enjoyed the open-air bath in the room multiple times at our leisure. We also savored the meal we were looking forward to. It was a course where you could choose between salt-grilled or deep-fried char, and the salt-grilled was truly delicious... Eating something hot and freshly made is such a joy. We couldn't finish the mixed rice cooked at the table, so we had it made into rice balls and enjoyed them back in our room. The staff responded clearly and with a smile whenever we needed them. The various written instructions were easy to understand, allowing us to enjoy our stay without any confusion.
