Thank you for a comfortable stay!
This was my second stay this year since my visit in June. I stayed in a detached Room and was able to relax deeply. The meals are described as “Yamabito cuisine,” and they were delicious, healthy, and truly something you can’t easily experience elsewhere. Thank you very much.

Just relax and unwind.
Fully satisfied with the Accommodation—both the overall experience and the space! We stayed for two nights, and truly enjoyed the meals, savoring the full flavor of the ingredients. We’d love to stay again at a more relaxed pace.

Relax in peace and quiet
Perhaps because there is an Onsen in the room, we hardly ran into anyone, and we were able to relax quietly while enjoying the private bath as much as we liked. The cuisine didn’t rely on rare ingredients or unusual techniques; instead, it felt like local ingredients were elevated into something special, and we enjoyed it thoroughly—including the presentation. The portions were more than generous. After I’d eaten quite a bit and taken a breather, a hot pot arrived, and I regretted misjudging my pacing. They kindly changed the kamameshi toppings to sweetfish (ayu). It was very delicious, but if you’re hoping to make rice balls with the leftovers, you may want to skip this option—small bones can end up mixed in, so it’s probably not ideal for onigiri. The lounge drinks also had a distinctive selection and were fun to try. The tamakonnyaku snacks seemed extremely popular; when I went back after a while, what had been a full pot was already gone. I understand how hard they are to stop eating—but let’s all be considerate of others too… though I did go back for seconds myself.

A Quiet, Relaxing Accommodation
I visited again for the first time in six years, and I was happy that my details had been noted in the guest register. It was a different Room from last time, but it was clean and wonderful again. The locally sourced dinner—vegetables, meat, and salt-grilled sweetfish—was all truly delicious, and the medicinal hot pot left both body and mind feeling refreshed. Many guests seem to be repeat visitors; everyone followed good manners and we were able to spend our time quietly again. The level of interaction with the staff felt just right as well. This Accommodation is perfect for escaping the stresses of everyday life!

Satisfied
We stayed to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The staff were pleasant and helpful, and we were satisfied with both the Room and the meals. (For elderly guests, the portion sizes may be a bit large.) The only disappointment was the pillows. I’m sensitive about pillows, so it was unfortunate that there was only one firm option with no alternatives. The staff greeted us with smiles throughout our stay, and we left the Accommodation feeling very comfortable.

There are no comments about the service, meals, or Facility being “too wonderful.” Everything was perfect except for the welcome drink.

No guidance to the R...
No guidance to the Room, no explanation of how to use the Room, the phone from the Room to the front desk did not work, and we could not check the availability of the private bath on the in-room tablet. The manju left carelessly in the Room refrigerator—was it from a previous guest, or was it meant for us? The meal explanations were hard to hear and unhelpful. No send-off. And this was over 100,000 yen per night.

Well-balanced.
An Accommodation where the Facility, staff, meals, and hot water are all well balanced and perfectly matched. It was a valuable experience—I didn’t feel any discomfort even once during my stay. If I may ask one favor, I would appreciate it if checkout could be at 11:00.

An Onsen trip with our mother, taken by siblings nearing their 60th birthday
We stayed for two nights on a family trip at Naofumi’s place. The meals were excellent—kamameshi, a wide variety of vegetable dishes, wonderful seasoning, and generous portions. We were worried we might not be able to finish everything, but it was so delicious that we ate it all. Even my 84-year-old mother ate almost everything—amazing! The room was spacious and well stocked with amenities, and we especially appreciated the plentiful towels and bath towels. Yukata and samue were also provided, so next time we’ll come with just our essentials. Thank you very much for your hospitality. We’ll visit again during the spring wild mountain vegetable season.

Impressions from My Stay
It was very good. We used the private bath; we had been told it was an indoor bath, but it turned out to be a stylish rock bath, which was wonderful. The meals were also delicious, with plenty of vegetables and mushrooms. I forgot something, but when I went back to pick it up, they were worried and waited for me. Thank you very much.

Outstanding hospitality!
I stayed with a wheelchair user, and everything we requested at the time of Reservation was properly prepared. They also guided us to parking near the ramp, and whenever we asked for something, it was provided right away—it was a huge help. We were told there were some steps, but by chance we were able to have meals served in our Room, which really helped! However, we couldn’t find the emergency contact information at night and had trouble. We needed a blood pressure monitor and additional assistance. As for the bath, there were no steps on the way to the bathing area, so they could go by wheelchair and bathe; they were absolutely delighted! Thank you very much!! We would definitely like to stay again.

A gourmet Accommodation!
For our two-night, three-day trip to Minakami, we had already made a Reservation for the next day’s Accommodation (Senjuan), so we chose Shobun to enjoy a different style of stay. We debated booking a detached Room, but since there were three adults, we chose Sasayuki with its spacious layout, massage chair, and sofa—and it was absolutely the right choice. We were able to relax and unwind at our own pace. The baths—both the private bath and the one in the Room—were at a comfortable temperature and very enjoyable. The meals were outstanding: freshly cooked white rice, appetizers, the natural sweetness of vegetables grilled over the irori hearth, plump fried iwana trout, a hot pot filled with mountain vegetables, delicious fu (wheat gluten), and more. Everything we tried was surprisingly delicious! Above all, the warm smiles and thoughtful hospitality from all staff made us feel truly welcome. Thank you for your kind consideration with the Diamond member perk sparkling wine. Our first stay at Shobun was completely satisfying—an excellent Accommodation. We will be back!

Favorites
This was my third stay, and it was wonderful again. The Yamabito cuisine is delicious every time, and being able to enjoy it at my own pace in a private dining room is the best. With an Onsen in the Room, I could enjoy bathing as many times as I liked at any time, and the surroundings were very quiet, allowing me to fully enjoy a sense of privacy. All of the staff were courteous and made me feel very comfortable. I was highly satisfied with everything and would like to return again. Thank you very much for another great stay.

I was able to spend some quiet time.
With only a few Rooms, we were able to enjoy a quiet and luxurious stay. We were very satisfied with both the in-room Onsen and the meals. Since this was a last-minute Reservation, only one Room was available and we stayed there. However, because it faced the road, the view when we opened the window was a bit disappointing. Next time, we’d like to try another Room.

We had a wonderful time.
We stayed here for a family trip for the first time in a while. The theme of this trip was simple: “To relax and enjoy the Onsen in our Room” “To enjoy delicious meals” Those were our two goals. And the result… exceeded our expectations. Spending time in the Onsen in our Room felt truly luxurious, helping us forget the busyness of everyday life—pure relaxation. The water was so pleasant that we wanted to soak again and again. The food was also outstanding—beautifully presented, carefully prepared, and delicious. It was a time when everyone in our family naturally smiled and said, “This is so good.” The staff’s thoughtful hospitality was warm as well, and we had a very comfortable stay. Before we knew it, not just me but our whole family was saying, “We want to come back.” I do have one small request: For families with young children, an diapers-only trash bin would be even more helpful. That said, overall it was a truly wonderful stay and became a great memory for our family. We would love to stay again.

Completely satisfied with everything!
This Accommodation exceeded all expectations! At dinner, I was amazed by how delicious the seasonal vegetables served first were—better than anything I’d ever had—and everything, including breakfast, was outstanding. The Onsen was also fantastic—both the in-room open-air bath and the private open-air bath were excellent. The Room had a wonderful atmosphere, was spacious, and felt truly relaxing. I would definitely love to stay here again!

We had a very relaxing stay.
We stayed with our second-grade child and our 3-year-old. Relaxing together as a family in the open-air bath in our Room and the private bath was wonderful. The meals were also very delicious, and we were very satisfied. The staff’s service was extremely courteous. We heard that you might be able to see fireflies in summer, so we would like to visit again. (Our child was absorbed in the comics available in the lounge area.)

We had a wonderful time.
I was extremely satisfied with everything—the setting, the staff, and the Facility. Since I used the Shuttle Service, I did run into other guests during check-in/check-out and in the welcome drink area after check-in, but aside from that it was almost nonexistent. Meals were served in a semi-private setting, and perhaps because of the time slots—and also because every Room has a private bath—I hardly ever overlapped with others at the family baths. I also felt that most guests followed the rules; although it simply said to use the family bath for about 30–40 minutes, everyone seemed to observe it, which may be why there was so little overlap. The meals were more than I could finish, and I really appreciated that they even made rice balls from what was left for a late-night snack. Another thing I loved was never having to worry about staying hydrated. Instead of just one plastic bottle in the Room, there was a pot filled with water. When it ran out, there were pots you could take back to your Room as well as dispensers in the welcome drink area—and they said tap water is also safe to drink. The air is dry this time of year, and after enjoying an Onsen you really need to rehydrate, so this made a huge difference. I was also happy that amenities like shampoo and toner were OSAJI. Having a chair in front of the sink was also very helpful when doing makeup. The staff were kind and attentive throughout my stay; their thoughtful touches were felt everywhere. It was so comfortable that I left reluctantly. It was an incredibly satisfying stay overall, but I have two personal wishes: - It would be nice to have a place for fresh-air breaks. I went several times to sit on the chairs along the path to the annex and spent time there, but since we stayed on the second floor of the main building, it would be great if there were somewhere closer—or even within/near the Room—where you could feel some outdoor air. Especially in winter, that crisp air after warming up in an Onsen feels wonderful. (I understand this may be for safety reasons—sorry for my selfish request.) - I’d love if solo Plans were available anytime. I definitely want to come again! But when I searched afterward, solo Plans didn’t appear—perhaps depending on availability? This time we booked at short notice and still managed to stay, which now feels like we got lucky; thinking about not knowing when I can come next makes me a little sad. These are just my personal hopes—anyone considering staying here should absolutely do so. All ratings are 5 stars across the board. Thank you again for such a wonderful time.

Heat shock
After using the semi-open-air bath attached to the room, I experienced dizziness, likely due to heat shock, and could barely walk. Although I managed to sit on a chair, I lost consciousness. My wife desperately helped me recover, and after about three hours, I was completely back to normal. During this time, unfortunately, I soiled bath towels and even the cushion of the chair. Upon leaving the accommodation, I left money for cleaning costs along with a printed paper containing my email address and asked them to contact me if it wasn’t sufficient. A week later, feeling concerned, I sent an email but received no reply even after five days. This is my first experience like this—ignoring communication is unacceptable. Most likely, we won’t be returning again.

Second stay!
This was my second visit! When I wanted to relax and unwind from daily work, Naofumi's name came to mind. I remembered the hospitality from my last visit and decided to come again—this time for two nights. Once again, the delicious meals, the comfort of the Room, and the exceptional hospitality of the staff were outstanding! I definitely want to return again. Highly recommended for everyone!

It was a very satisfying accommodation.
We stayed at the accommodation with our family at the beginning of the year. As it is a snowy region in Minakami, we were concerned about road conditions, but snow removal and melting measures in the area were well-prepared, so we had no issues reaching there. On the second day, our car was covered with quite a bit of snow, but a staff member kindly cleared it off for us, which was very appreciated. The room, staff service, meals, and bath were all excellent and left us completely satisfied. Regarding meals, while not flashy, they made good use of local ingredients and incorporated plenty of vegetables. Each dish was thoughtfully prepared with just the right portion sizes—not too much or too little. The drink menu was also extensive and ordering via smartphone made it hassle-free to enjoy our time there. It’s an accommodation we’d love to revisit during another season besides winter!

Accommodation for a Relaxing Stay Without Doing Anything
I stayed in the ZEN Suite "Kikyo" on the second floor of the main building. It was a very lovely room. The room with an open-air bath, introduced as ZEN Living, was particularly wonderful. Sunlight streamed through the wooden-framed windows with a sense of openness, illuminating the steamy bathroom. The bathtub was filled generously with hot water that flowed continuously, creating a gentle trickling sound. Just sitting in the rocking chair and gazing at it all was incredibly relaxing. Both the bedroom and Japanese-style room were clean, spacious, and comfortable to spend time in. The meals were also excellent, showcasing freshness and high-quality ingredients. The vegetables were sweet, the meat tender, and the fish flaky and delicious. Each dish offered unique and luxurious flavors you wouldn't find elsewhere. At different times of day, various drinks were available at the drink bar—including local sake, shochu, sparkling wine—and all had an elegant taste. On the morning of my second day when I woke up, everything outside was covered in white snow—a beautiful snowy landscape that I thoroughly enjoyed viewing. Over 20 centimeters of snow had accumulated on my car by departure time; however, staff from the ryokan kindly cleared it off for me before I left.

I found autumn-theme...
I found autumn-themed bookmark-making kits at the rest area, which my wife was delighted with as a wonderful memory. Since we arrived in Minakami early this time, we enjoyed soba noodles at the nearby Kakumi before check-in. Although we were quite full, we thoroughly enjoyed the taste of autumn along with the dinner at the accommodation.

It was excellent.
This was my first time using this accommodation. I had been debating whether to visit for a while. My main criterion for choosing accommodation is whether they serve Kaiseki cuisine. When I showed my wife the photos of the dishes, she said she wanted to go, so we made a reservation—and it was absolutely the right choice. The ingredients, including vegetables, fish, and meat, were all top-notch. The vegetables were naturally sweet and delicious even without any seasoning. The steamed pork was the best I've ever had. All dishes had light seasoning; even the miso soup at breakfast was delicately flavored yet incredibly delicious—it left me deeply impressed. I believe the head chef has exceptional skills. Although I've written mostly about the food here, I must also mention that both the facility and staff were excellent—truly a wonderful accommodation overall. We usually enjoy high-end ryokans in Hakone or Izu, but this place exceeded our expectations. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

Enjoy firefly watching at Yumeji Bijin Suijo no Yu.
The accommodation is nestled in a forest along the highway. Guests can ascend a staircase made of garden stones arranged in steps (there is also an alternative wheelchair-accessible route). The property is much deeper and more spacious than it appears from the outside, offering a relaxed atmosphere. The public spaces resemble a mountain lodge or forest school, featuring wooden furnishings that exude the scent of natural wood. Guests can enjoy simple relaxation in areas such as rest spots, corridors, and private baths surrounded by nature. On the other hand, the rooms for accommodation are luxurious—akin to those of a high-end ryokan. The furniture is sturdy and well-maintained with minimal wear and tear. Each room features a spacious and stylish private bath with an open-air panoramic view bath that fully opens up to reveal stunning scenery. Outside lies an intricately designed garden with cascading waterfalls and flowing streams that harmonize beautifully with the surrounding forest. Dinner is served in semi-private booth-style seating areas where partitions block direct views but leave open space above, allowing conversations from neighboring booths to be audible. The mountain-inspired cuisine emphasizes natural flavors rather than relying on elaborate preparation techniques, letting guests savor the essence of local ingredients. The staff are kind and attentive but may come across as somewhat amateurish in their hospitality approach.

Unfortunately, it was unsuccessful.
We stayed here for the second night of our two-night trip to enjoy the autumn leaves around Tanigawa-dake and its Onsen. The first night was at an accommodation that was about 20% cheaper than this one, with decent reviews. However, unexpectedly, everything from the private Onsen in the room to the view, meals, and staff hospitality exceeded our expectations. Perhaps because of that experience, our expectations for this accommodation were raised too high, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a very disappointing stay. A foreign staff member guided us (they seemed to be trying their best), but there were no explanations about amenities or facilities; we had to search around ourselves. We couldn’t find tabi socks or room wear and asked a staff member about it. They didn’t seem to understand what "tabi" meant and told us they weren’t provided. As a result, we spent the night in unfamiliar yukata robes. The meals were simple but lacked any sense of excitement and didn’t feel worth the price paid. Before leaving, while checking for forgotten items, we found room wear and tabi socks tucked away in a drawer inside the closet—this discovery left us sighing deeply. We rely on IKYU.com reviews when visiting Onsen accommodations twice a month on average; however, this time was unfortunately a disappointment.

I had a relaxing time.
I stayed here during my trip to climb Mount Tanigawa. It was a quiet and relaxing accommodation. The bath and meals were excellent. Especially the meals, which were not overly extravagant but offered a perfect portion of delicious mountain village cuisine instead of overwhelming quantities often seen elsewhere. The adjustment of the water temperature in the room's bath was promptly handled as well. However, one minor issue was the lack of a place to hang bath towels, which was slightly inconvenient.

Iwana Rice and Shibata Wheat Gluten
Enjoy Ayu Cuisine! I have stayed twice in a reasonably priced room without an open-air bath, with the main purpose of enjoying ayu cuisine. It has been three years since I could no longer find that room or the ayu cuisine. This time, I obtained a limited-time coupon from IKYU and decided to splurge a little by making an early reservation for the INAKA Suite in the main building. A pleasant surprise was that "Iwana" (char) replaced the ayu cuisine, which had apparently ended a few days prior. By chance, my spouse and I were able to compare "salt-grilled" and "deep-fried" iwana dishes, and for an additional fee, we enjoyed "iwana rice cooked with seasonings." The rice balls prepared for nighttime were delicious even when cold! If it's in season, I highly recommend trying both the deep-fried iwana and seasoned rice. The hot pot dish was made solely with various mushrooms—light yet satisfying without being heavy on the stomach. Both dinner and breakfast featured gentle flavors that we finished completely. The accommodation was truly quiet inside and out, allowing us to relax fully. Here are some points where things felt slightly off or might have caused inconvenience: - At first, we misunderstood as well; however, please note that Naobun does not offer “free-flowing” hot springs (this is not mentioned in their basic information). As fans of free-flowing baths ourselves, this was disappointing; however, their bathtubs along with surrounding areas—including shower rooms equipped with built-in benches—were functional and thoughtfully designed compared to accommodations relying solely on free-flowing baths. We found them very comfortable to use. - The “Kobushi” suite we stayed in this time had independent spaces for its bathroom (open-air bath), dressing area/bedroom separated by non-transparent doors or partitions; however other INAKA Suites seem equipped differently—with transparent glass doors allowing views of open-air baths from dressing areas etc., based on photos available on IKYU.com’s site which make distinguishing between these two types difficult at times. Depending upon group size/composition contacting Naobun directly may help clarify details better beforehand. Immediately after returning home ordered Shibata Fu featured during breakfast small bowls via website recommended female staff member? After trial/error attempts finally managed replicate soft chewy texture close original third try grateful discovering unfamiliar ingredients enhancing dining experiences overall hope revisit during next iwana season meet new culinary delights again someday! Lastly young female staff assisting dinner service sincere apologies any unintended rudeness stay healthy thank much care provided truly appreciated!
