    Accommodation like a museum

    This was my first time staying here. The accommodation provided a pick-up service from Jomo-Kogen Station, and we arrived in about 40 minutes. Surrounded by tranquil countryside, the setting was serene. After check-in at the front desk, we were guided by a staff member to the annex entrance using a golf cart-like vehicle. From there, we took a small private cable car to the third floor. The property consists of the main building (dining area), Honjin (exclusive bathhouse for guests), and an annex built on a hillside. You can also access these areas via elevators or stairs. The architecture resembles that of an old rural manor with high ceilings and antique-style furnishings on display throughout. Our room featured a sunken kotatsu table by the window, which made it perfect for relaxed conversations during our gathering of three colleagues. The baths include one for day-use visitors in the main building; however, I found the guest-exclusive bath more spacious with open-air options offering views of an inner garden—truly delightful. Meals were served in the dining area where there is also an exhibit space resembling a museum showcasing items like pipes, medicine cases, combs, matchlock guns, and other artifacts from what seemed to be Edo or Meiji periods. The food incorporated many local ingredients and was both delicious and plentiful. Taking another ride on the annex cable car up to its rooftop revealed stunning views: rice fields stretching out before us with Akagi mountain ranges beyond them—a breathtaking sight! The Onsen had just-right temperatures (around 40°C for natural spring baths and 41°C for others), allowing us to enjoy long soaks comfortably. All staff members were incredibly friendly and welcoming—it added greatly to our experience! Overall, this one-night stay as part of our two-day trip left us thoroughly satisfied.     Concerned about the decline in the quality of the food.

    As a repeat visitor, I was surprised by the decline in the quality of meals during my recent stay. I wonder if the person in charge of cooking has changed or if there are cost-cutting measures in place. What is the reason for this? Also, I would like to know if there is any prospect of improvement in the future. I have always been impressed by the elaborate and visually appealing dishes, but this time, both dinner and breakfast were disappointing in quality. I felt a decline in the ingredients, but more than that, there were many ordinary dishes that seemed to be just grilled or boiled without much effort. There were also items that were not tasty and left uneaten, which has never happened before, leaving me feeling disappointed. In particular, the breakfast with a single piece of grilled salmon and omelet as the main dish, and a pot with only vegetables and tofu, was reminiscent of a school trip meal. The meals did not match the accommodation price, and if improvement cannot be expected, I find it difficult to continue using the property. The facility has a charming atmosphere and is wonderful, the staff generally provide good service, and I love being able to experience the four seasons of Kawaba Village, so I hope the quality of the meals returns to its original state.

    I had a relaxing time at the end of the year.

    We stayed for 2 nights as a family of four. Thank you very much. We were able to relax in the wonderful onsen amidst the snow-covered rural landscape, which helped us relieve the fatigue of the year. Although it took some time to move from the property to the onsen and dining areas using the gondola and cart, the children enjoyed it as if it were an attraction, and since we had plenty of time, the travel time did not bother us. The room was very spacious and convenient, and it was not a problem that there was no cleaning service during the two days. We also enjoyed visiting the nearby Kichijoji (Kichijoji), Kawaba Denen Plaza, and the sake brewery tour, making it a very enjoyable trip.

    We used this facilit...

    We used this facility for a family year-end gathering. The hospitality was excellent! The meals and the bath were also great! The building is quite spacious, and while electric carts are available to assist, it felt slightly inconvenient. One downside might be that the windshields on the electric carts are stiff and difficult to close. In winter, even with lap blankets, it feels like you might catch a chill after bathing.

    It was a very lovely Stays, but

    It was a truly unique and wonderful property where the owner's attention to detail could be felt in every aspect of the facility. The staff were also kind. The food was very delicious. However, it was really unfortunate that there were more than 10 stink bugs on the high ceiling of the room, and some even fell down, making it impossible to stay in the room. As a result, we couldn't use the spacious room and had to stay cramped in a small area, unable to sleep well. Despite the sign in the room saying "Leave pest control to us," there was no way to reach the front desk or the night contact number, and we only heard an out-of-service announcement. It was truly sad and disappointing. While it's understandable that bugs can appear, not being able to contact the property is very concerning for various reasons. Of course, we tried to go to the main building with the front desk, but the automatic doors of the building were also closed, and we didn't know what to do. The snow scenery, the view from the room, the meals, and the hospitality were all excellent, which made it even more disappointing that the memory was marred by stink bugs. Nevertheless, the furnishings and monorail throughout the property, as well as the view from the room, made it a memorable stay.

    I believe the evaluation will change depending on what you prioritize.

    First of all, I found the unique facilities interesting. Being able to move around the premises with a dedicated cart and taking a monorail to the observatory were enjoyable experiences as they are not commonly found elsewhere. Additionally, the collection exhibition room curated by the owner and the display of antique folk tools throughout the facility gave it a museum-like charm. On the other hand, we (especially my husband) are not fond of large public baths, so we always opt for rooms with open-air baths to enjoy Onsen without going to the public bath. For this reason, we pay a higher rate than usual. Despite the room having a relatively large open-air bath and an indoor bath, neither was an Onsen. As a result, we had to go to the public bath to enjoy Onsen, which was disappointing. Upon closer inspection, there was a small note stating "the room baths are not Onsen," which was our oversight, but had we known, we wouldn't have chosen it. The dinner was ordinary with nothing particularly memorable, but the breakfast gave the impression of having many ready-made items. The service was very pleasant and kind, but I felt the serving could have been a bit more careful. Serving with one hand in a Japanese meal setting tends to give a rough impression. I would have preferred if they used a wagon or something to serve with both hands.

    Kayabuki no Sato Repeater

    When it comes to going on a trip, I always end up choosing Kayabuki no Sato. The Onsen, Facility, and meals are all excellent! I'm completely satisfied every time!

    This is my second time using it.

    I don't often repeat stays, but due to the high evaluation from my entire family, we are visiting again after four years. The property has a Japanese-style charm with a thatched roof, a spacious and luxurious design, and a very pleasant atmosphere. The staff's service is attentive. The meals are delicious and appropriately portioned. Some transportation by cart is refreshing and enjoyable. (Especially for children, I think they will be delighted.) Despite the maintenance costs for the large grounds, monorail, and carts, the price is not high at all. It is reasonably priced. With fewer guest rooms, I have a personal impression that it is well-maintained. I think we will use it again.

    The Onsen, Facility, and scenery are all wonderful, but the meals are disappointing.

    The building with a charming thatched roof has high ceilings and clean rooms, making for a very lovely stay. The view from the room is also beautiful with rural scenery. Transportation is by cart and cable, providing an entertaining experience. The bath is clean, and the Onsen water is thick and soft, leaving the skin smooth. The disappointing part was the meal. The most shocking was that the hot pot had only about 4.5 enoki mushrooms, and overall, the other dishes did not match the price.

    Satisfaction

    This time, I stayed for the first time. I thought the staff's service and the room were very good. However, since I came by car, there was no one at the entrance of the ryokan, so I passed by several times and didn't know where to park, which was disappointing. The meal was very delicious, especially the chicken wings.
