    Simply the best.

    Because it’s close to Zao, this was my first stay at this Accommodation. To put it mildly, it’s one of the best Accommodations I’ve ever stayed at. It’s fairly large, so the interiors and lobby are well appointed, but above all it’s quiet and comfortable. The large public bath with an open-air bath is excellent as well, and the teppanyaki cuisine was outstanding. There was nothing to complain about. The service struck just the right balance of attentiveness and distance, and everything was impeccably clean—I truly enjoyed my stay.

    Thoughtful attention to detail

    We stayed for two nights as a couple. At first, we made a Reservation through Chikusenso’s website, but there was a limited-time offer on IKYU, so we switched and made the Reservation via IKYU. As our stay approached, Chikusenso contacted us to confirm. Although we did not note on IKYU that we do not like seafood, they kindly called to double-check because our canceled Reservation on their website mentioned it. We truly appreciated this thoughtful attention. Dinner was kaiseki cuisine, and even without any seafood it was just as delicious as the standard course. We also felt the considerate care of all the staff and were able to relax. The Onsen left our skin silky smooth and warmed us through to the core.

    An ideal Accommodation for adults to relax and unwind.

    Nestled in a quiet forest, it was very peaceful and relaxing. The bath warmed me through to the core, and I was very satisfied. Overall I was satisfied, but there were a few points that stood out. When making the Reservation, I would have liked to be asked whether there were any foods I cannot eat or dislike. The drinks in the Room refrigerator included water as well as juice and beer, but since we made the trip all the way here, I would have liked to see local options such as regional sake or local wine. It also would have been even better if there had been half bottles available for welcome drinks. I had hoped for in-room dining, but the restaurant was lovely, and it was nice to change things up and enjoy dinner there. The food was delicious, but if I may be picky, I think the appetizer, steak, and dessert could have used a bit more creativity. I was satisfied with the grilled dish. If anything, breakfast was better. The service was very courteous. In particular, seeing the foreign staff working so hard left a strong impression on me, and I found it very pleasant. Some Reviews mentioned that women’s amenities were not well stocked and inconvenient, but everything was properly provided during my stay and I did not feel any inconvenience. In addition to yukata robes, there were also samue loungewear sets, which do not come undone while sleeping—this was great. I may have written some harsh comments, but this had by far the most polite and attentive service of any Hotel I have stayed at so far. Thank you very much.

    The wind was a bit strong and scary, but the food was delicious, and we were able to enjoy a piano performance, so we had a very relaxing stay. Thank you very much.

    We were very satisfied.

    Among the many Ryokan, I would say this is one of the finest Onsen Ryokan. From the service, meals, and quality of the hot spring water to the view from the window and even the cleanliness of the large public bath changing area, it was a highly satisfying stay. If I had to mention one thing, it would be that there are quite a few steps and level changes within the Facility—though the staff were very thorough in providing safety reminders. It was an exceptionally comfortable and pleasant Accommodation that made me want to return. Thank you very much.

    Service is on a whole different level—great food guaranteed.

    This was my second visit, following last year. I love the perfect level of attentiveness from the butler and front desk staff, which is why I returned. It is a wonderful Onsen Accommodation that truly makes me want to come back again. The Shuttle Service from Sendai Station was also greatly appreciated—thank you to the driver.

    Meals made with locally sourced ingredients and attentive hospitality

    [What I liked] 1) Both dinner and breakfast offered a generous variety and volume, and I could truly enjoy dishes made with local ingredients. Even though it’s a mountain Accommodation, the sashimi was very fresh, and the gentle seasoning that brought out the natural flavors left a strong impression. The tableware was also thoughtfully chosen, making the meal enjoyable to look at as well. The freshly baked croissants served after dinner as a late-night snack were another lovely touch. 2) The staff were exceptionally warm and welcoming. Casual conversation—including local stories—felt comfortable and made the trip even more satisfying. When I felt bad about not finishing all of my food, they kindly said they’d be happy if I simply chose what I liked and enjoyed it, which really put me at ease. They also explained that because it’s a small Accommodation, meals are prepared to suit each group—giving me the sense that they share not only service but also how they hope guests will spend their time there. The fact that such words came naturally made me feel their values and approach are well established across the team. 3) The private open-air bath and the women’s large public bath (open-air section) were wonderful. Since it was winter I wasn’t expecting much scenery, but being able to feel nature—bare trees and the river—in every direction was deeply relaxing. 4) Having coffee makers in both the Room and lounge was a nice bonus—a small luxury for coffee lovers. 5) Amenities were well stocked, from makeup remover through moisturizing products. The large public bath also seemed to be cleaned frequently, so it felt pleasant to use at any time. 6) The floral arrangements inside had a seasonal touch, showing great attention to detail throughout the property. Cleaning was also thorough. 7) They confirmed my height in advance and prepared properly sized samue loungewear and yukata for me, which I really appreciated. [Points to note] 1) Static electricity around the elevator area and Room doors was quite strong—strong enough at times to see sparks. Anti-static sheets are provided, but it can be scary if you forget to use them first. 2) In-Room drinks were limited to coffee, black tea, and green tea; having a caffeine-free option would be even better. 3) There are many steps inside the building and walking distances can be long, so guests with mobility concerns may find it somewhat challenging (apparently due to location-related constraints). A brief note in advance or at check-in would help guests feel more prepared. 4) Since there is no shower or amenities in the private open-air bath area itself, it would be helpful to mention this in advance. 5) The humidifier in the Room ran out of water fairly quickly and needed refilling; it would be nice if it could run through most of a stay without needing attention so soon. Also, connecting to the wireless speaker was hard to figure out—simple instructions would help greatly.”

    It was very relaxing.

    I stay at various Accommodations every month, and this one was great! The staff were very attentive, and both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The sashimi was very fresh, the seasoning was excellent, and the large public bath was wonderful—I felt truly relaxed. Thank you very much.

    It was very relaxing.

    My spouse and I booked a Multiple Night Stay because we wanted to do nothing and simply relax. It snowed a little at just the right time, and while it wasn’t quite a “snow-viewing bath,” we were able to enjoy stunning scenery from the open-air bath. The staff’s hospitality was especially wonderful, and they even provided Shuttle Service into town for lunch (not available at the Accommodation). There isn’t much sightseeing in the area, but this Accommodation in a national park, the attentive service from the staff, the delicious meals, and the breathtaking women’s open-air bath were more than enough to leave us deeply relaxed and impressed. This is an Accommodation we would definitely love to visit again.

    A soothing retreat surrounded by natural beauty

    This Onsen Ryokan nestled in the woods was truly a place where I could unwind. Surrounded by lush greenery, the peaceful setting makes you forget the bustle of everyday life, and from the moment you arrive, you feel a calm sense of contentment. The meals featured an abundance of fresh local ingredients, beautifully presented with a strong sense of seasonality. Each dish highlighted the natural flavors of its ingredients, making it a luxurious experience to enjoy with both eyes and palate—every course was impressively delicious. The Onsen offered wonderful views that let you feel the changing seasons, and soaking at just the right temperature was an exceptional moment of pure relaxation. With heartfelt hospitality in every detail, it was a truly wonderful Accommodation.

    Excellent hot springs and meals

    It was excellent. Considering how hard it is to have no complaints, this Accommodation is truly outstanding. Both the large public bath and the private baths were always clean. The meals clearly showcased the freshness of the ingredients.

    It was a very disappointing stay, especially because our expectations were high.

    We are experienced travelers who stay at over 15 ryokans annually. We were very much looking forward to this visit after seeing the high ratings, but unfortunately, it turned out to be a highly disappointing experience. 【Service】 Although we are not Japanese, we can communicate in Japanese. The staff member assigned to us was a Nepalese individual who could speak English. While we understand the placement of foreign staff and have encountered many providing excellent service at other accommodations, the service provided by this particular staff member fell far short of the standards expected at a ryokan in Japan. It felt more like the impersonal and casual service typical of international chain hotels. During dinner, for instance, they leaned very close to our food without wearing a mask while explaining dishes, which made us extremely uncomfortable and concerned about hygiene. 【Dining Environment & Guests】 The dinner venue was semi-private; however, the strong perfume from neighboring Southeast Asian guests overwhelmed any enjoyment of our meal's aroma. Additionally, one guest engaged in a loud speakerphone conversation with their grandchild for over 10 minutes during dinner time, completely ruining our dining experience. What surprised us most was that all other guests appeared to be from Taiwan or Southeast Asia—we did not see any Japanese guests during our stay. Given its high ratings online, we found this puzzling (though it must be noted that other Japanese staff members provided exceptional service). 【Cuisine】 The portions were generous and seemed decent in quality; however, due to concerns about "saliva contamination" mentioned earlier and being unable to enjoy proper aromas because of neighboring perfume smells, it was difficult for us to fairly evaluate the taste. 【Room Facilities】 Our biggest issue with the room was temperature control—the heating system made it unbearably hot with no way to adjust it properly. When consulting staff about this problem, they suggested switching only to fan mode as an alternative solution. Ultimately though—left without options—we had no choice but opening windows just so temperatures could cool down enough allowing sleep albeit uncomfortably restless nights overall! 【Onsen】 The onsen experience stood out positively amidst everything else! Especially breathtaking views offered within women’s outdoor bath area left lasting impressions indeed!     Surrounded by autumn leaves, the atmosphere, Room, and Facility are excellent. However, for dinner, the grilled Hassun served later in the course is quite voluminous and may be difficult to finish.

    The high review rating had caught my attention for a while, and I decided to stay here this time to also enjoy the autumn leaves of Zao. Upon entering the premises, there was quite a distance to the entrance, and the nature-filled approach heightened my expectations of arriving at a wonderful place. At the building's entrance, an elderly gentleman greeted us politely, valet service took care of our car, and we checked in at a quiet and well-maintained lobby. The room, onsen, meals, and service—mostly provided by senior staff—were calm and courteous with no major complaints. However, everything was as expected for the accommodation cost; there were no surprises or moments of awe. While I don't regret staying here, it didn't leave me wanting to return. I wanted to enjoy more of the beautiful nature around but repeatedly hearing announcements from local PR vehicles warning about bears made me hesitant to go out for walks. It was very disappointing that I had to give up on exploring; this might have diminished some aspects of what makes Chikusenso so appealing. A few concerns: - While their polite service may be appreciated by some as maintaining distance in a comfortable way during interactions within the facility or explanations provided were minimal—just enough—and lacked subtle kindness like proactively sharing helpful tips that might not be immediately noticeable. - The large public bath's outdoor onsen for women had unique features that made me want to try it out; however male facilities felt average without any standout qualities—it would have been nice if they alternated between genders depending on time. - For welcome tea during check-in: if there's no choice available perhaps incorporating more local sweets could add thoughtful touches reflecting regional charm. The private indoor bath in our room wasn't an onsen so we didn’t use it even once; although being an IKYU Diamond Member allowed us late checkout until noon both public baths & private outdoor onsens closed access after 10 AM leaving nothing much left except checking-out earlier than planned around 11 AM instead since outdoor exploration wasn’t possible either due circumstances mentioned above choosing rooms featuring onsens directly inside would've allowed enjoying them till last-minute making better experience overall feels like missed opportunity now reflecting back days later still unsure why reviews rank third-best across Tohoku region remains puzzling lingering sense dissatisfaction persists

    The atmosphere is exceptional.

    This is an exceptional level of accommodation surrounded by bamboo groves. You'll understand as soon as you step inside. It feels so new that you might mistake it for a newly built accommodation, with no sense of age at all. While there are some minor drawbacks, it undoubtedly deserves a 5-star rating overall.

    I hesitated to visit Togatta Onsen as it seemed a bit far, but I decided to go since this accommodation was offered at a great price. When I arrived and opened the car window, I was surprised that my name was called before introducing myself—such excellent hospitality! The calm atmosphere of the facility and the room were just as I imagined, and I loved it. The private open-air onsen had rain during my reserved time, but thanks to the roof over the bath, I could relax comfortably. The next day, there was availability for another open-air onsen, so I enjoyed that too. Although the women's large public bath's outdoor onsen was still under construction and couldn't offer its usual view—which was unfortunate—I had it all to myself and enjoyed it thoroughly. The large public bath was always clean and well-maintained, making it very pleasant. The meals were of high quality; thank you for accommodating ingredients I'm not fond of. However, as I'm not a big eater, there were times when portions felt too much for me. It’s nice that we could take home some bread for a late-night snack—the croissant and red bean-filled Danish were delicious! Upon departure, we were sent off with such polite bows that made me feel how much they value their guests. The scenery from Zao afterward added to making this trip truly wonderful.     It was a relaxing accommodation.

    From the moment you enter, the calm atmosphere sets the tone, and you can immediately tell it's a great accommodation. The private open-air bath was delightful to use right away. The room was clean, spacious, and exceeded expectations. Dinner was delicious with every dish perfectly paired with wine. Both the large public bath and open-air bath were clean and provided a relaxing experience. Even breakfast, which I usually skip, was delicious—especially the freshly cooked rice from the traditional stove that I couldn't resist having seconds of. Despite visiting during a busy holiday season with crowded tourist spots nearby, the surroundings were quiet and peaceful, allowing for a truly relaxing stay. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again!

    Everything was wonde...

    Everything was wonderful. Enjoyed wine and piano, followed by a delightful meal. The food was very delicious. The service, bath, and room were excellent. I rated the facility 4 points due to the many steps, but everything else was great, so I would love to have a Multiple Night Stay next time. Thank you very much!

    I stayed here for my husband's birthday, and it was a wonderful accommodation. The staff were friendly and kind, making it a memorable experience. The room was clean and tidy, with no complaints. The private bath in the room had a spacious tub, allowing us to relax comfortably. Although part of the outdoor section of the women's public bath was temporarily closed during my visit, one outdoor bath was still available, letting me enjoy the fresh air. The private rental bath exceeded expectations with its spaciousness, offering a luxurious feeling. The gym provided towels and water, and I appreciated being able to use it at my own pace in a relaxed atmosphere. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. Perhaps due to upgrading the main dish for dinner, I found the portions too large to finish completely—something I regret—but every dish showcased creative presentation with both Japanese and Western flavors that were visually delightful as well as delicious. Among all the dishes, the white rice served at breakfast stood out as exceptionally tasty. Before dinner, we enjoyed live piano music in the lounge—a truly special moment that added to our wonderful stay. All staff members were friendly and made us feel comfortable throughout our visit. The goldfish in the garden pond were also adorable. I would love to visit again someday. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    An Accommodation You'll Want to Visit Again

    I never realized there was such a wonderful Onsen accommodation on the way to Miyagi Zao Eboshi Resort. Located in a quiet area, it might be the perfect place for a private getaway, though we visited as a family. First of all, the hospitality staff included experienced and elderly gentlemen who were incredibly cool, polite, and outstanding. I found myself aspiring to be like them someday. The excellence of the accommodation is evident from the photos, so I won't elaborate much on that. However, it was an exceptional facility rarely seen in Tohoku. *The room's cypress bath showed some signs of age and wasn't visually appealing, but since we used the large public bath instead, it wasn't an issue.* And above all else—the food. It was very carefully prepared and delicious. The children's meals included steak, pasta, authentic sushi, gratin—an overwhelming amount packed with everything kids love. It truly made us feel like we had come to Tohoku for our trip. While everything was excellent, our family tends to eat small portions so we left quite a bit behind—that's my only regret. The children were absolutely delighted! In conclusion—it was an amazing accommodation! Its ranking as No. 2 in IKYU.com's Tohoku listings is well-deserved indeed! We’d love to visit again someday!

    We had a relaxing stay.

    The Room was spacious, and we were able to relax. It was disappointing that we couldn’t use the bath in the Room due to the rain. We also enjoyed the delicious meals. The service was excellent, and I think this Accommodation is one I can recommend to others. Thank you very much.

    Excellent!

    From the moment you are greeted by the charming Jizo statues and step onto the premises, you will feel an incredibly relaxing and refined atmosphere. Everything is a cut above, making it the finest Ryokan. The staff's thoughtfulness and hospitality are exceptional. I would definitely love to stay here again.

    I stayed with my mother on a trip. The large public bath was spacious, and the view of the fresh greenery from the open-air bath was wonderful, providing relaxation for both body and mind. The bed was extremely comfortable, and we thoroughly enjoyed the meals, although some dishes felt slightly too salty. We used the shuttle service from Sendai Station this time and enjoyed watching the rural scenery while chatting with the driver. My mother was delighted by how enjoyable the drive was. I hope to visit again during autumn foliage season. Thank you very much!
