    Moved by the hospitality

    From the moment we boarded the elevator to the Ryokan from in front of Sounzan Station, it was an exciting experience. The Accommodation and all the staff welcomed us with a warm atmosphere, and everything—the Room, the carefully prepared meals, the Onsen, and the views—was wonderfully soothing. We were able to spend a slow, quiet, luxurious time. Thank you very much.

    A warm bath soothes both body and mind.

    The hospitality, food, and Onsen were all excellent. We were able to relax and take our time. If I had to mention one drawback, you can hear voices from the neighboring open-air bath while bathing in the open-air bath. It can’t really be helped. The wooden footboards in the bath area are a bit worn with age. That’s about all I can think of. I’d love to visit again when I want to unwind.

    Simply wonderful.

    We stayed for two nights over a long weekend. Having stayed at many Hotels and Ryokan for more than 30 years, I can say without hesitation this was truly top-tier. The location is convenient, and the atmosphere feels as if you are surrounded by a Japanese garden. The Room was the perfect size for a couple, and although it wasn’t mentioned on IKYU, the toilet was completely separate. There is a spotless shower room fully stocked with shampoo and other amenities right by the entrance to the in-room open-air bath (free-flowing natural hot spring), so you can wash comfortably before soaking. Beyond the beautiful greenery, you have an outstanding view of the mountains of Gora. The water quality was excellent—silky and slightly thick—and my wife was delighted that it left her skin smooth. The cuisine and service can only be described as superb. Every dish showed inspiration from the chef; even a single simmered course featured different vegetables prepared with different stocks, beautifully arranged. Most places simply pour one thickened broth over everything, but this was on another level. Finding anchovy inside butterbur made me laugh—in a good way. Even the fried new onion garnish had thoughtful technique behind it (such as using beer for seasoning before frying). Every dish had creativity and care, and no vegetables were repeated throughout the course. I was also impressed by our attendant’s memory and her fluent explanations of each dish. Overall, I felt the attendants here are exceptionally professional: poised posture, no unnecessary small talk, and absolutely no casual chatter among staff. None of the typical questions like “Where are you visiting from?” or “What have you been sightseeing?” Yet they were never cold—just consistently warm smiles with a gentle presence. If we had started conversation ourselves, I’m sure they would have happily chatted; when you’re tired, it’s nice not to be forced into talking. Everything felt thoroughly well-trained—my wife and I even remarked that to explain such intricate cuisine so smoothly requires real intelligence as well as practice. I’m certain there must be regular study sessions involving the chef. Dinner on our second night did not repeat a single item from the first night. Finally, after checkout while kindly being driven to Hakone Open-Air Museum (Chokoku-no-Mori), I accidentally left my wallet at the Ryokan; a male staff member promptly brought it all the way to us on site, for which I am deeply grateful. Next time I plan to bring my discerning parents—they will definitely be satisfied. Thank you in advance when we return.

    Thank you, as always, for allowing us to relax and for the delicious meals. This is not specific to Hanaougi, but would it be possible for staff to serve guests without masks now? Even if we accept that the dining service staff may need to wear them, it would be nicer if other staff could show their faces.

    A must-visit again!

    I stayed for two nights for trekking along the ancient Kamakura trail. The Shuttle Service to Ginyu was very helpful. A few points I noticed: The seating area inside the large public bath is made of stone, but its rough surface makes it uncomfortable to sit on for long periods. It would be great if something could be placed over it. Also, I would appreciate it if the men's bath amenities could include items like lotion, similar to those in the Room. My Room was 202, and unfortunately, the outdoor bath view couldn't be enjoyed directly while sitting in the tub. Additionally, I recommend occasionally moving furniture like sofas in the Room during cleaning for thorough maintenance. Despite these comments, I was extremely satisfied with the food and hospitality of all staff members. My wife especially enjoyed the meals. Thank you very much for your excellent service. I look forward to staying again!

    A bit disappointing

    I visited after several years. It was disappointing that the refrigerator in the room only had water. Also, during meals, only paid water was available. While this might be common overseas, this is Japan, a country where tap water is drinkable. Is it because there are many foreign guests staying? I would have appreciated if tap water was provided alongside sake.

    The parking guidance by the staff is extremely poor.

    Despite the parking lot being located at the lower area near the Hotel entrance, I was directed by foreign staff to drive up to the main entrance. At the main entrance, there was no parking space available, and a staff member told me they would move my car back down to the lower parking lot. To return to the lower parking lot, I had to navigate through a narrow area for backing up and making a U-turn, followed by descending a steep slope. Considering that it seemed unlikely for someone unfamiliar with driving (as appeared to be the case with this foreign staff member) to safely descend such a steep slope without scraping underneath the car, I decided to handle it myself. Carefully making a U-turn in tight quarters and descending slowly down the slope was quite challenging. The guidance from staff was inadequate, and reaching back down to park in the lower lot turned into an exhausting experience. I do not plan on visiting again.

    Thank you once again for your excellent hospitality. As always, this accommodation is flawless. This time, the staff member attending to us was young, but their timing in serving meals was impeccable.     We stayed as a coupl...

    We stayed as a couple. My husband, who uses a cane, was initially worried about visiting an Onsen after a long time, but he was delighted with the tatami-matted interior, which made walking very easy. The staff were incredibly kind and warm, and the food was delicious with rich flavors of dashi, allowing us to enjoy it without worrying about salt content. We would love to visit again. Thank you!

    A flawless and exceptional Ryokan

    This is my favorite Ryokan, which I have visited many times—first with friends when I was single, then with my husband after marriage, and now with my children. The moderately cozy Room, beautiful decor, the view from the private open-air bath in the Room, the cuisine, and the large public bath—everything is perfect. Details like having separate yukata and pajamas prepared or being able to choose a small beer as a welcome drink show how thoughtfully everything is arranged. Staying here truly soothes my soul. Although it falls into a slightly higher price range for me personally, it motivates me to work hard so that I can bring my family here about once a year. I will definitely visit again!

    I had a relaxing time.

    This was our second stay, celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary. We love the warm atmosphere of Hanaougi and its connection to Ennosha, with the entire accommodation featuring tatami flooring that exudes comfort. The female staff member who attended to us was very polite, friendly, and always greeted us with a smile. The meals were exquisite and carefully prepared, showcasing great attention to detail. The open-air bath had an adjustable water temperature that wasn’t too hot, which made it very enjoyable. One suggestion would be to provide a laundry basket in the room for convenience. We are planning to stay at Ennosha during New Year’s holidays. Thank you very much!

    Completely satisfied.

    We visited for a family trip to celebrate my husband's retirement and the birth of our grandchild. Although we booked without meals or bedding for our grandchild, the staff kindly provided a cute yukata, bed guard, and even a bed at the dining area, which was incredibly helpful. Thanks to the thoughtful care of the female staff member who assisted us, our entire family was able to relax and fully enjoy this two-day, one-night trip. We would love to visit again!

    The best stay in Hakone.

    I had been curious about Hanaougi, and it exceeded my expectations with its comfort. The cozy atmosphere of the lounge heightened my anticipation, and I was impressed by the calm ambiance of the room upon being shown in. We stayed for two nights, and both dinner and breakfast were exceptional. Not only were they visually appealing and delicious, but even the tableware added to the enjoyment. The variety of sake was another highlight. The coffee, tea, and sweets provided in the room were delightful as well. On the second day, we returned to our accommodation early after some sightseeing to relax in a warm wooden room while enjoying coffee, chatting, and taking a bath at leisure. The large public bath was wonderful; while I enjoyed the open-air bath, even the indoor bath allowed fresh air to flow in so that I could enjoy an unobstructed view outside without fogged windows. The semi-private washbasin area was also very comfortable to use. Thanks to our dedicated room attendant and all staff members' hospitality, we truly had a relaxing time during our stay. It was my first trip with my mother-in-law along with two daughters-in-law—a group of three women—and thanks to Hanaougi's excellent service, it became an unforgettable journey. This is definitely an accommodation I would love to visit again!

    Just the Right Accommodation

    We visited during a slightly late summer vacation. The room, bath, meals, and hospitality were all just perfect. Even though we had a small child with us, everyone welcomed us warmly, which we truly appreciated. We have stayed at various accommodations, but this has become one of the few places we would love to stay at again. Thank you very much!

    A memorable and excellent accommodation

    We visited Gora Hanaougi for the first time during the Obon holiday to relax in Hakone with my wife. Taking the accommodation's private elevator from Sounzan Station, we arrived effortlessly at the accommodation! (It was so convenient that we even used it for an early morning stroll around Sounzan.) Having previously stayed at their sister accommodation, En no Mori, we found both places to have a warm wooden ambiance and meticulously designed interiors that exude understated elegance and warmth. It even evoked a nostalgic feeling for us as a couple, leaving us thoroughly satisfied. From our room's bath, we could enjoy views of Daimonji while soaking in smooth and silky hot spring water. The sound of cicadas added to the atmosphere, and we lost count of how many times we bathed during our stay. The highlight was undoubtedly the incredible meals! We had high expectations based on reviews but were still amazed by dishes that exceeded them all. When speaking with one of the staff members, they mentioned that the head chef’s dedication is extraordinary—bordering on "obsessive," they joked! You can truly feel their passion through every dish; it was genuinely outstanding without exaggeration. Thank you for such an amazing dining experience. While we've often said "let's come back" when leaving accommodations before, it's rare that it actually happens... But this time, both of us wholeheartedly agreed: "We’ll definitely return." This is truly an unforgettable accommodation. Thank you so much for your hospitality!

    Unfortunately...

    The service and the room were excellent!! However, I stayed in the best room, but it didn’t feel special at all, which was very disappointing. Maybe I expected too much. At this price, I couldn’t help but think, "Is this it?" It felt like the only feature was that the room was spacious. The drinks in the room used to have more variety before, but now there’s only water.

    Final Meal and Hospitality

    Every year around this time, we take a refreshing trip to Hakone. Following last year, we stayed at Hanaougi again this year. The meals at Hanaougi are always impressive. The kaiseki cuisine made with seasonal ingredients is exceptionally delicious. The corn soup was rich and sweet, and I was surprised to hear that the shabu-shabu sauce had a tomato base. It was a unique and flavorful sauce unlike anything I've tasted elsewhere. Every dish was so delicious that we ate quickly, but the pace of serving matched ours perfectly, which made us very satisfied. Additionally, the staff member who took care of us last year also assisted us again this year—thank you so much! Thanks to her hospitality, we were able to have another pleasant and highly satisfying stay. We look forward to visiting again!

    It was amazing!!

    Thank you very much for this wonderful experience. I took a short vacation with my mother to relax and recover from daily fatigue, and it was absolutely the best Ryokan we have ever stayed at. We would love to stay here again. The Shuttle Service from Gora Station, both on arrival and departure, was incredibly helpful and much appreciated. Above all, the food was absolutely delicious. I usually find that meals at such places take a long time to be served one by one, which I’m not fond of, but the staff member who attended us (apologies for forgetting their name) served everything promptly without any delays between dishes. This allowed us to enjoy our meal smoothly without waiting unnecessarily. The breakfast was also hearty and very satisfying. The view from our Room was stunning as well. We were able to spend our time comfortably without being disturbed by noise from neighboring rooms or hallways above or beside us. The staff member who assisted us throughout our stay even saw us off at the end with great hospitality—maintaining a perfect balance of attentiveness while respecting personal space—and made our experience truly pleasant. Please convey my heartfelt gratitude to them. One small regret is that I forgot to purchase the kokuto tea provided in the Room—it was so delicious! If it’s available for sale next time, I’ll make sure not to miss it. It was an incredibly relaxing and happy two days. Thank you so much once again—we will definitely visit again!

    It was quiet and relaxing.

    The accommodation was very quiet, and the view of the greenery from the room was calming, allowing for a relaxing stay. The staff at the accommodation were very kind, making it easy to unwind. The water in the private bath felt incredibly soft, and being an open-air bath made it even more enjoyable to soak in. I ended up bathing three times! We splurged a little for my father's 90th birthday celebration, and he was delighted overall. I'm glad we chose to stay at Hanamura-san. I noticed that previously there were more items besides water in the refrigerator... has it been changed to just water?

    Revisited Gora Hanao...

    Revisited Gora Hanaougi after a long time. Most of the guests were foreigners, with only two Japanese groups. The Room has a private bath, so the large public bath was practically reserved for us, allowing for a quiet and relaxing stay. The food was very delicious. Dishes that stimulate all five senses; the meat dish was part of the fillet meat Plan and tasted excellent. The Room is compact but just right for two people to spend time together comfortably.

    Healing Accommodation

    I frequently stay at this accommodation. The staff are very warm, kind, and maintain a comfortable level of attentiveness. The meals are exquisite, with delicious broth and seasoning that enhances the natural flavors of the ingredients. While staples like steak and shabu-shabu are served for main dishes, appetizers, soups, simmered dishes, small plates, grilled items, and more feature seasonal ingredients. I visit often and keep the menu sheets as souvenirs but have never encountered the same menu twice. The large communal bath includes two reclining baths (available in both men's and women's areas). Guests can use a dedicated elevator from Sounzan Station to access the accommodation conveniently. With a Hakone Free Pass in hand, you can enjoy exploring all of Hakone with this accommodation (Sounzan Station) as your base point. For example: Sounzan → Ropeway to Owakudani → Togendai → Motohakone → Bus to Hakone-Yumoto → Mountain Railway to Gora → Cable Car back to Sounzan

    The service provided by our staff.

    During our previous stay, we were deeply impressed by the room, meals, and exceptional hospitality, which led us to revisit for our wedding anniversary. While we were once again moved by the quality of service overall, we were disappointed by the behavior of the assigned staff member. **Positive Points:** - Not only was a baby set provided in the room, but also a high chair, dining set for children, and a baby bed at the dining area. - Thoughtful gestures such as a message plate and commemorative photo for our anniversary. We were truly touched and are very grateful. **Disappointing Points:** ● Assigned Staff Member: A trainee was assigned to assist us during our stay. While we understand that everyone starts with training and intended to be understanding, there were several disappointing moments: - On the way to our room during check-in, my husband casually remarked "This brings back memories," to which she responded with "Have you stayed here before?" At an accommodation of this caliber, shouldn't information about returning guests be shared as standard practice? She then followed up with "Shall I skip explaining about the facilities then?" - Upon arriving at our room door, she handed my husband the key (for reasons unclear) and silently gestured for him to unlock it himself. Wouldn't it be more appropriate if she had asked something like "May I take care of unlocking it for you?" before proceeding herself? - After entering the room together with us, she stood idly while giving a rushed explanation about its features. - When asked questions regarding in-room amenities, she either couldn't answer or gave incorrect information (a senior staff member later called us with accurate details). - During breakfast time when commemorative photos had been prepared into cards on our table as part of their service gesture—there was no explanation from her whatsoever; if we hadn't noticed them ourselves they might have gone unnoticed entirely. ● About Dinner: One dish was incomplete—broad beans that should have accompanied smoked firefly squid were missing from my plate (though present on my companion's). To avoid disrupting dinner ambiance unnecessarily though this wasn’t pointed out immediately. While aspects such as accommodations themselves along w/ meals & services provided by other team members left lasting positive impressions—it’s unfortunate how much negative attention ended up being drawn towards mishandling shown specifically via aforementioned individual interactions instead leaving lingering dissatisfaction behind overall impression-wise especially given expectations tied toward guest treatment consistency regardless perceived status-tier differentiation basis potentially influencing assignments made operationally speaking here contextually observed firsthandedly thus far experienced personally firsthanded perspective-wise ultimately concluding feedback submission purposes stated above accordingly noted respectfully requested improvement measures implemented moving     Relaxing Accommodation

    Stayed for a birthday celebration. While not new, the accommodation was very clean and well-maintained. The complimentary drinks in the refrigerator (beer and soft drinks) were a nice touch. The meal portions were just right and delicious. The only area for improvement would be the large bath; the onsen minerals had crystallized on the stones, making them quite painful to step on—almost to the point of causing injury. It might be better to have them polished. Other than that, no complaints!

    This was my first time staying here. The staff were all very kind and I thought it was wonderful. However, I was disappointed with the small stains on the sink in the Room and the poor condition of the door to the bathroom inside the Room. Additionally, I felt that the shampoo and other amenities in the public bath seemed a bit cheap, which was unfortunate.

    Domestic beef steak may not be necessary...

    You will hardly encounter other guests at this property, providing a strong sense of privacy. The room is compact but comfortable, with a terrace that offers a sense of openness and a relaxing atmosphere. The most remarkable feature is the quality of the onsen in the room's open-air bath, which is a beautifying onsen that leaves your skin smooth, and the temperature can be adjusted to your preference, allowing for multiple enjoyable experiences. As for the meals, the main dish of domestic beef steak comes in three bite-sized pieces that you cook yourself, but two pieces were more than 80% fat, so I didn't eat them. Honestly, if this level of meat is used, I think the main dish is unnecessary. The Hida beef shabu-shabu served as a simmered dish was of much higher quality, and if this were made the main dish, even with fewer overall dishes, the satisfaction level would be higher. Overall, it was a good stay, and I was satisfied, but considering that there are many properties in Hakone priced around ¥100,000 per night, I felt it might lack a bit of impact to attract repeat guests.

    Thank you for your hospitality at the end of the year. It was my first stay, but the most wonderful thing was the smiles of all the staff. The same person was in charge from check-in, meals, to check-out, and they always had a smile and were very attentive, which left the biggest impression on me. Thank you, Mr. Fukuzawa. The meals were also delicious. However, it was unfortunate that the private room we used had no windows both at night and in the morning. I also liked the very nice atmosphere of the lobby floor. The temperature of the onsen in the room was perfect whenever we entered. There were many foreign guests, but there were no guests with bad manners, which was good. It has become a property I want to visit again.
