    A Top-Tier Accommodation

    Thank you very much for taking such wonderful care of us. This was a truly top-tier Accommodation that exceeded all expectations. I understand you are now in your 18th generation—when it comes to Onsen Accommodations, nothing compares to a long-established inn. Of course, both the large public bath and the in-Room bath are fed directly from the source with free-flowing spring water. The staff were exceptionally attentive—so much so that we almost felt apologetic for receiving such kindness. Above all, the dining was outstanding, far beyond anything we had imagined. The tableware was also beautiful throughout, including pieces inspired by Rosanjin’s works, making each meal a delight not only for the palate but also for the eyes. The Kaga cuisine was delicately seasoned yet deeply flavorful. Everything was immaculately cleaned, and the view from the window was truly soothing. While preserving the charm of this historic inn, the property has been beautifully renewed with touches of contemporary art woven in seamlessly. Naturally, many Rosanjin works are displayed throughout the building as well, and they were well worth seeing. I also suspect many guests may not notice this—but in the lobby, Rooms, and bathing areas: there are countless chairs everywhere, and most appear to be high-end pieces. I can only imagine how much has been invested overall; especially the chair inside the elevator must be quite expensive. Even details like lighting and clocks have clearly been chosen with great care. We visited with very high expectations for an Onsen Accommodation, yet everything surpassed them by a wide margin—truly impressive. We would love to return again soon.

    A leading hot spring Ryokan in Kaga where you can relax both body and mind

    Staying at this Ryokan had been a long-time dream of mine, and I’m so happy it finally came true. The warm hospitality from the proprietress and all the staff, the calming lobby with Rosanjin’s artwork, and the comfort of the tatami were all wonderful. I also asked to have our souvenirs shipped home, and you supported us thoughtfully and thoroughly—I truly appreciated it. As I will be turning 70 next February, my husband told me to choose any Ryokan I wanted to visit, and this was the first place I picked. We enjoyed a variety of dishes such as hassun, and the sake was delicious as well. You even prepared a purple hood and vest-style chanchanko for my celebration—I was so happy that we took photos. The bath in our Room felt seamlessly connected with the greenery outside, offering a beautiful view—a luxurious semi-open-air hot spring bath with natural spring water. Of course, we also enjoyed the large communal baths at the Ryokan at a relaxed pace each day. Yamashiro Onsen Kosoyu was right in front of us, which we really enjoyed. I prefer slightly hotter water, so it was perfect for me. After bathing, my husband and I went up to the third floor and relaxed. It became an unforgettable trip for us. Thank you very much to everyone. (We would love to visit again during the autumn foliage or crab season.)

    We used this property for an important gathering with fellow business owners.

    I love Yamashiro Onsen—my birthplace—and even as an adult I visit once or twice every year to soak in the baths. This time, I invited eight close friends to my hometown and we spent some wonderful time together. The Accommodation we chose was Araya, a very special place for me and my family as well. Since our group was nine middle-aged male business owners, I was a bit worried about how it would go—but thanks to your outstanding hospitality and warm service, we were completely satisfied from start to finish. Even the CEOs in our group, who have high standards and are strict about service, were all deeply impressed, saying: “Everything—from every corner of the Room, to each staff member, to every single dish—was filled with care and elegance.” Thank you so much for hosting such an important occasion for us. Please let me visit again regularly—with my family and with friends.

    Thank You for Your Stay

    After sightseeing in Kanazawa, we stayed here and were truly soothed by the calm atmosphere inside the Accommodation, the beautiful garden, and the relaxing Onsen. The meals in particular reflected the season, and we were able to enjoy Kaga culture through both the cuisine and the tableware. Thanks to the warm and attentive service from all of your staff, we felt comfortable throughout our stay. My mother and I were able to spend a peaceful time together, making this one of the most memorable stays of our Hokuriku trip. We would love to visit again in a different season.     This Accommodation was nearly perfect in terms of satisfaction.

    The Onsen baths, the meals, and the hospitality of the Accommodation staff were all excellent. From the entrance to the hallways and into the Room, everything is covered with tatami mats, so it’s nice to be able to walk around barefoot. There is also a Rosanjin gallery, and his works are displayed along the corridors as well—this was a refined and wonderful Accommodation. If there was one small downside, it would be that the bed mattress in the Room was a bit firm; I felt it would have been better if it were made of a material that fit the body more comfortably.

    A Dreamlike Stay

    We stayed at Araya, a place we had long admired, with our family. Not only were the Onsen, Room, and meals truly wonderful like a dream, but they also accommodated our sudden requests, and we were deeply moved by the warm hospitality of everyone at the Accommodation, especially the proprietress. Our one-night stay flew by in an instant, and we slightly regret that we didn’t go out and instead spend more time relaxing at the Accommodation. It was a very happy time. We would love to stay again next year.

    It was the best wedding anniversary.

    At my wife’s request, we stayed at Araya in Yamashiro Onsen for the first time around our wedding anniversary. With its long history and tatami flooring throughout the building, it was very comfortable for my wife, who has difficulty walking. The bath is on the hot side, but the water is very gentle, and we were able to soak and relax so much that we forgot about the heat. At dinner, they also treated us to a celebratory toast drink for our anniversary, and it felt like we were newlyweds again. It became a truly wonderful memory. Thank you very much.

    The meals are outstanding!

    We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights. The meals were outstanding. As expected from a Ryokan that has earned Michelin recognition for two consecutive years, every dish was refined and truly impressive. The staff provided excellent hospitality with attentive, thoughtful service. We were also very satisfied with the free-flowing Onsen fed directly from the source.

    A Prestigious Japanese Ryokan

    I’ve stayed at various Accommodations in Yamashiro Onsen, and finally got to visit Araya Totoan, which I’d been wanting to try for a long time. We stayed to celebrate my daughter’s entrance into high school. It’s an older Accommodation, but it’s well cleaned and well maintained, and the staff were very kind. The cuisine was outstanding—truly the best among the places we’ve stayed—and it really moved me. It was such a happy time! The Onsen was also excellent, and I enjoyed it many times. One small suggestion: I’d be happier if there were a wider selection of complimentary drinks after bathing. The sparkling drink had gone flat. I was able to recover from my everyday fatigue.     Breakfast Service for First-Time Ryokan Guests

    I was really looking forward to my first Ryokan breakfast—fluffy rice, grilled fish, maybe tofu and a few small side dishes. But when I sat down at the table, I thought, “What is this… vegetarian Buddhist cuisine?” The tableware looked like something used for shojin-ryori. It may be famous pottery, but to me it clearly felt like shojin-ryori tableware. Starting the morning with that was disappointing. I am a Park Hyatt member. When I stayed at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Kyoto, breakfast was served at a traditional restaurant. The rice was light and fluffy, and the rice bowl had a thin rim designed to make the rice taste even better. I had never been particularly interested in ceramics before, but that experience made me realize that plates and bowls can enhance how food tastes. This time, frankly speaking, your tableware did not make the food feel delicious at all. And what I disliked most was the rice—it was sticky and clumpy, as if last night’s dinner rice had been reheated and served again. The attendant served it for us; when we opened the lid later, we were shocked. It was far from fluffy. Is this really the kind of rice this Ryokan serves to guests? Also, the attendant serving breakfast was not wearing a mask, which did not feel comfortable—especially while talking while serving rice into bowls. If my son hadn’t been there, I would have said something; instead I held back and ate. The tableware was poor and the rice was clumpy as well, but since you had taken the trouble to prepare the meal, we endured it and ate it anyway. My young daughter-in-law and granddaughter left theirs unfinished—but we older people eat because it feels wasteful not to. Please understand: guests finishing everything does not always mean they enjoyed it. One more thing: regarding our Room’s air conditioner switch—there is another switch above it (or an additional switch), but no one explained this to us. We were cold all night and couldn’t sleep at all. However, the staff member at the shop provided wonderful service. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    Staying at a Ryokan for the first time.

    First of all, thank you very much for accepting my sick granddaughter. I usually stay only at Hotels, and this was my first experience at a Ryokan. I don’t like Onsen either, so the only thing I was looking forward to was the food. There was abalone on the dinner menu. Every month, I have abalone as part of the chef’s choice course at Tsuruya in the Nagoya Marriott Hotel. In the past, I had an abalone steak with browned butter at Shima Bay Suite and it was delicious, so I asked Tsuruya at the Marriott Hotel if they could make an abalone steak with browned butter. The head chef said they could, so they include it in my monthly chef’s choice course and I enjoy it every time. So I was looking forward to a similar abalone steak here as well, but for someone like me who is sensitive to hot food, it wasn’t something I could truly enjoy—the abalone was boiling vigorously, and I was very disappointed. The other dishes were average. Then I wondered about dessert, but the strawberry mousse, strawberries, and almond tofu were all served together in the same dish. If possible, at least the almond tofu and the strawberries/strawberry mousse should have been served in separate bowls (for example small glass dishes). When everything is in one dish, the flavors mix together and it ended up tasting strange. I had been really looking forward to dinner at a Ryokan for my first time, but for me it’s better to stay at a Hotel and dine at that Hotel’s fine restaurant instead. The food here tasted strongly seasoned and too salty for me; however, my daughter-in-law and sons said it was delicious. That said, both during dinner service and at check-in (even though they were wearing masks), your staff were friendly with warm smiles. Thank you very much for taking care of us. .

    The meals were absolutely delicious.

    My sister, my mother, and I stayed here to celebrate my mother’s birthday. This is a long-established Accommodation associated with Rosanjin, and it offers highly satisfying hospitality for a small number of guests in an intimate setting. The Room was spacious, and from the semi-open-air Onsen bath we could see fresh green leaves and enjoy a pleasant view. The open-air bath at the large public bath was also very relaxing. The main public bathhouse right in front was close as well, which was convenient. Not only were the Onsen and Room wonderful, but above all we were extremely satisfied with the high quality of both dinner and breakfast. Thank you also for the complimentary sake service. The beautiful tableware and bowls prepared as part of the birthday celebration were lovely, and both my mother and sister were delighted. I would like to stay again. One small thing: the springs in the chair in our Room felt a bit uncomfortable (haha).

    The moment I stepped into the Room, I knew: this is it. The moment the meal arrived, I knew: this is it. I finally found the Ryokan I’d been looking for. I’ve stayed at many luxury Ryokan across The whole country, and this was the best. And it features free-flowing natural hot spring water straight from the source. The food is also delicious. Honestly, I don’t want to tell anyone because I’d hate for it to get so popular that Reservations become impossible—but if you visit Kanazawa, I hope you’ll stay here at least once. That’s the kind of Ryokan it is. I wish there were more Ryokan like this. My heart feels full. Thank you very much.

    The Accommodation features artworks and has a natural hot spring source that wells up right beneath your feet. The Room was spacious, with beautiful green views from the window, and the writing desk and chairs were lovely. The staggered shoji screens were also very stylish. The cuisine was traditional, extremely fresh, and delicious. The bath area was spacious and full of atmosphere. Amenities were surprisingly ordinary compared with other Accommodations in the same price range. Opinions may be divided about the service, but there are other Accommodations as well that take pride in their traditions, offer an Onsen that wells up at your feet, and serve Onsen eggs; these are things guests gradually notice during their stay and savor quietly, rather than having them pushed on them. Perhaps it is the pride unique to a traditional Accommodation, but considering the difference between hospitality and being overly controlling, I felt that subtlety is something with real depth.

    Impressions of Staying at Araya Totoan

    This traditional Japanese-style Ryokan had a very quiet atmosphere, and the Room featured a beautiful semi-open-air bath. Before dinner, I was able to relax and soak in the gentle Onsen that warmed me to the core, leaving me refreshed both physically and mentally. The breakfast and dinner were also prepared with great care, and I was very satisfied. I also liked that the Room for staying and the Room for dining were separate. All of the staff were extremely courteous, and everything—the Facility, Room, and bath—was spotless. If I have the chance, I’d love to visit again during the autumn foliage season.

    It was an exceptional holiday!

    I finally found an Accommodation where I can truly relax both body and mind again! Needless to say, the food was delicious, and the thoughtful hospitality of the staff, the tasteful mix of old and new furnishings, and the refined atmosphere throughout made it a calm and comfortable place to stay. One of the free-flowing hot spring large baths, “Karasu-yu,” was a mysterious space where I could enjoy a meditative moment—almost as if I were in a Zen temple rock garden. Everything felt fresh to all five senses, and I’m genuinely glad I went. I also heard that the owner is extremely knowledgeable about alcohol; even just the wines listed on the wine list were outstanding. Next time I visit, I’d love to take my time savoring them.

    The meals were excellent, but the in-Room open-air bath and the bed were disappointing.

    Both dinner and breakfast were very delicious. However, I was shocked and very disappointed that only cold water came out of both the shower and the bath in the in-room open-air bath. According to the Accommodation staff, it seems this happens only in this Room. Given that this is a luxury Accommodation, this is unacceptable, and I wish we had been informed in advance. Also, I chose a Western-style Room because I wanted a bed for my legs, but it wasn’t really a bed—more like a thick futon—so getting up was just as difficult as with a futon. I’m unsure whether I will visit again.

    The crab and everything else were excellent.

    We stayed at this accommodation using the hometown tax system to celebrate our anniversary. We usually stay at a luxury ryokan every two years, and while most have been low-rise buildings, this six-story modern structure was beautifully designed and left a great impression. First, the staff: Their hospitality was as refined as expected from a luxury ryokan, yet their sense of distance was perfect, making our stay very comfortable. For meals, we chose a course featuring one crab per person. Starting with Kobako crab, followed by crab sashimi, charcoal-grilled crab, boiled crab, and even crab porridge—every dish showcased fresh snow crabs tagged from Hashidate Port's "Kissho Maru." It was truly impressive. While the crabs were unforgettable on their own, we realized the overall quality of the cuisine during breakfast the next morning. The flavors perfectly suited our tastes and made for an unforgettable dining experience. The baths were also exceptional: The men's and women's baths alternate before and after meals; in between them is another bath that also alternates genders. Each bath features two pools—one with hotter water around 42–43°C (107–109°F) and another with milder water around 37°C (98°F). With dim lighting creating a relaxing atmosphere, alternating between these pools felt like enjoying sauna effects while providing ultimate relaxation. My wife and I found ourselves soaking for nearly an hour without realizing it. Additionally, right in front of the ryokan is "Yamashiro Onsen Kosoyu," where you can purchase discounted tickets at reception. They even provide thoughtful bath sets including towels packed in baskets—a lovely touch. Overall, despite being relatively large-scale yet not overly grandiose or intimidatingly formalized—it’s compact but offers heartfelt hospitality throughout! This wonderful ryokan has left us wanting to return next year during crab season instead of waiting another two years! Thank you so much!

    This year, enjoy crab at Araya Totouan.

    Following last year, we visited Araya Totoan at the end of the year to enjoy crab. The price is high, but both the taste and portion size were very satisfying. Breakfast might feel a bit lacking, but we would love to visit again next year. The service was very polite and kind. The proprietress was also kind, elegant, and beautiful.

    Luxury Ryokan

    The room, location, hospitality, cuisine, and bath—everything was exceptional. Surrounded by the historical Yamashiro Onsen and Rosanjin's works, this became an unforgettable accommodation. The price is undoubtedly high, but I will work hard to visit again.

    Comfortable Stay

    I had always wanted to stay at this accommodation, and I was thrilled to finally fulfill my wish during crab season. The charm and atmosphere of this traditional accommodation were captivating, and the high level of cleanliness made my stay very comfortable. I was especially impressed by the quality of the water in the large public bath and thoroughly enjoyed the onsen after a long time. While not needing slippers was convenient, it would be even more comfortable if two pairs of tabi socks were provided instead of one, allowing for separate use on different days.

    Famous Ryokan

    An award-winning Ryokan with a Michelin 1-star rating. The beautifully presented dishes, made with an abundance of fresh local ingredients, were numerous and meticulously prepared. From the appetizers to the final dessert, everything was exceptional in quality, quantity, and taste—truly satisfying both visually and gastronomically. It felt on par with Asaba in Shuzenji where I stayed last month. The three large baths were excellent in terms of water volume and quality. From arrival to departure, the warm hospitality from the proprietress and staff showcased the unwavering tradition of a classic Ryokan. Extending my trip from Kanazawa to Kaga turned out to be a perfect decision for a rejuvenating stay. This time's hair crab was incredibly delicious; I can't help but wonder how amazing it will be after crab season officially begins! I already feel like visiting again from Kanto just for the crabs!

    Recover your first negative impression with Onsen & cuisine.

    We chose this accommodation based on its reputation in Yamashiro Onsen. The overall atmosphere was pleasant, as the compact layout of the facility, not being overly large, was very convenient. The interior, rooms, and onsen were beautifully renovated, providing a comfortable stay. Although it is located between the onsen town and the mountainside without particularly scenic views, it offers a calm and relaxing environment. The onsen featured two distinct styles to enjoy, both with excellent water quality. However, I felt that the indoor bath in our room resembled a unit bath and seemed slightly outdated; I hope this can be renovated in the future. As for dining, while I found the initial aperitif (sake) slightly strong for my taste, everything that followed was exceptional. The dishes were not only delicious but also generously portioned. Since we visited during summer this time around, we look forward to returning during winter for crab season. One disappointing aspect was related to the sweets shop operated by this ryokan. The information provided in our room about their offerings did not match what was actually available at the shop itself. There had been no explanation about changes to their menu when we checked into our room; it wasn’t until visiting the shop that we realized some of what had been introduced earlier was outdated information. This gave an impression of poor communication between the ryokan management and shop staff. Although my initial impression after check-in wasn’t great due to this issue with communication regarding amenities like their sweets shop menu details—both their wonderful onsens alongside outstanding cuisine gradually turned things around positively by end-of-stay!

    As expected.

    Fourth stay. Last time, due to the Noto Reconstruction Discount, I felt the welcome sweets, meals, and refrigerator service were a bit lacking. However, this time was truly exceptional as expected from Araya. We stay at accommodations about 50 times a year, and the cuisine here is number one in this price range. The onsen water quality is excellent, and the cleanliness, amenities, and management are outstanding. Last time we stayed in a spacious room with an onsen bath attached; this time we used a twin room. It was sufficient for two people and barrier-free access allowed us to visit the large public bath multiple times. Breakfast was perfect down to the dessert, making us want to visit again during autumn foliage season. Thank you very much for your hospitality and for accommodating so many of our requests!

    Family trip part 3. It was a prestigious Japanese Ryokan.

    Stayed for 6 months at Yamashiro Onsen in Kaga. Room: Stayed in Room 201 with a semi-open-air bath. Thank you for providing the baby futon. The room had a luxurious Japanese-style design with a low bed in the bedroom. It was nice to experience tatami after such a long time. Service: At the lobby lounge near the entrance, sparkling wine and beer (tanrei) were available. Being able to enjoy beer after bathing was great! If I may suggest, considering the price range, regular beer instead of happoshu would be preferable. Also, it would have been nice to have alcoholic beverages in the room's refrigerator; soft drinks were complimentary though. Coffee was available outside the room via a shared coffee machine. Onsen: Personally loved it! The onsen featured natural hot spring water flowing directly from its source and provided wonderful warmth throughout my body. The two-tiered bathtub attached to our room allowed alternating baths, which we enjoyed multiple times! The lukewarm bath was perfect for introducing our baby to their first onsen experience with natural spring water! Additionally, the special "Tori-yu" bathhouse was amazing—alternating baths here also warmed me deeply and offered profound relaxation; having it all to myself enhanced satisfaction even more! Dinner: We enjoyed dinner leisurely in a private dining space next door to our room. Each dish of Japanese cuisine was meticulously prepared and deliciously crafted—the vibrant presentation of Hassun dishes paired perfectly with sake while Gasu shrimp added delight too; Nodoguro rice bowl tasted fantastic as well! Sake: A wide selection focused on Ishikawa’s local sake varieties included notable options like Noguchi Naohiko Sake Institute (which I’d previously read about onboard an airline magazine). However, some local sakes seemed slightly overpriced—hesitated over Junmai Daiginjo due solely due pricing concerns despite interest otherwise... Value-for-money: While not necessarily aiming toward affordability per se given expectations beforehand regarding premium pricing tiers involved here overall comparative cost-effectiveness relative peers within similar brackets wasn’t particularly outstanding either yet nonetheless thoroughly satisfied experiencing Yamashiro Onsen’s prestigious traditional ryokan ambiance firsthand ultimately made worthwhile trip altogether
