    Visit with preparation.

    A place so captivating that you'll find yourself searching for your next Reservation on the flight home. This is a truly wonderful Hotel. Both the facilities and hospitality are exceptional. Above all, the quality at this price point offers incredible value for money. The Junior Suite is especially recommended as it includes French dining and a spa massage. During your stay, dining at okas restaurant is an absolute must at least once!

    It was a wonderful stay! Thank you very much. Thanks to the hospitality of everyone at the Hotel, especially Y-san, I had an amazing time. The Room had a wooden scent and provided a relaxing space with views of nature. As someone who loves alcohol, I appreciated the service of different drinks depending on the time, such as aperitifs and digestifs. The grounds were beautifully maintained with lush gardens, making it enjoyable just to take a walk. Although my return flight was canceled due to an unexpected incident, thanks to the staff at the Hotel, I managed to get home safely. I would love to visit Yakushima again just for this Hotel. Thank you so much!

    Accommodation Perfect for Special Anniversaries

    We stayed here for the first time to celebrate my husband's birthday and our slightly belated wedding anniversary. The room was spacious, the infinity pool was stunning, and everything from the lounge snacks to the meals was simply outstanding. The bread served during dinner and breakfast was especially exquisite! The staff, though young, were approachable and provided meticulous service. When my husband spontaneously requested a fruit platter as a surprise, they responded promptly and graciously—thank you so much for that. It made our trip truly memorable. One regret is that we didn’t fully utilize the butler service. On our first night, we decided against visiting Samana Hotel's Onsen since we had been drinking alcohol and couldn’t drive. In hindsight, I wonder if we could have requested shuttle service through the butler. One minor point of concern: during our meal, a staff member kindly took commemorative photos with their smartphone for us. I thought they might print them out later as a keepsake, but nothing came of it. That said, these small points hardly detract from what was an extraordinary experience at this exceptional hotel! We will definitely return again in the future.

    The ultimate experience. A luxurious time.

    I love overseas resorts and The Ritz-Carlton, and I often visit them. But if someone asked me, "Where would you want to stay again?" I would answer, "Sankara." It’s a hotel I’ve dreamed of staying at for the past 8 years. When you have such high expectations, it’s easy to feel disappointed when you finally stay somewhere. This place was different. The staff were highly professional, greeted us with warm smiles, and made us feel welcome. It seemed like everyone knew my husband’s dislikes when it came to food. Even when we made sudden and unreasonable requests, they remembered our shuttle service time for departure and ensured everything was arranged accordingly. How much effort must go into remembering every guest? It must be immense! Thanks to the amazing staff, our stay was truly exceptional. There may be more luxurious hotels with larger grounds or more elegant accommodations around the world, but I doubt there is another hotel that values its guests as much as this one does. I am grateful for being able to enjoy a stress-free experience where Japanese is spoken fluently by the staff. The weather was perfect during our stay; we were able to enjoy the pool multiple times. Watching the bonfire by the poolside while sipping sparkling wine was pure bliss. As new hotels continue entering Yakushima in the future, I believe Sankara will remain a top choice thanks to its outstanding hospitality. I look forward to supporting them in years to come!

    Would love to stay again.

    It was my first time in Yakushima, but I felt very comfortable and enjoyed it thoroughly thanks to the excellent service. The space was just as beautiful as shown in the photos. I would love to stay here again. Thank you!

    It was amazing!

    All the food was delicious. The sweets in the lounge were also tasty! It reminded me of the drama "Grand Maison Tokyo," which I loved and watched many times. If I had to mention one thing, the skincare amenities didn’t suit my sensitive skin. They had a hinoki-like scent that made me want to take them home, but for those with atopic dermatitis or allergies, it’s better to bring your usual products even if it adds to your luggage. The Hotel staff kindly said, "Please let us know if you need anything," every time we spoke, which was incredibly thoughtful. They also provided car service both on arrival and departure without any hesitation—truly excellent hospitality. All the staff stood straight with perfect posture, showing their attention to detail in daily conduct. Though it’s a bit far and costs accordingly, I definitely want to visit again! It was a 1-night stay but absolutely satisfying. Thank you very much!

    For a Digital Detox

    A three-night stay to revisit Jomon Sugi. The pool and the beauty of the Room are, of course, exceptional, but above all, the meals—both breakfast and dinner—are absolutely outstanding. Dinner at the main dining was delightful with clear and enjoyable explanations from the staff. The breakfast buffet at the first-floor restaurant was extensive, accommodating various requests. Additionally, the hand-painted plates by a staff member were stunningly beautiful. The bathtub in the Room is perfect for relaxing after a tiring hike. Its design allows you to soak while lying down—a truly remarkable space for healing. The lounge in the main lobby offers a wide variety of drinks and provides a cozy spot for reading on rainy days, though light snacks could be more satisfying. However, one major drawback is the surprisingly weak internet connection—it’s either unavailable or extremely slow even in both Rooms and main buildings. This alone might deter me from revisiting unless I decide to completely disconnect from digital life during my stay here. It’s unfortunate as there’s no way to know if this infrastructure will ever improve in future visits.

    A Unique and Blissful Retreat

    A long-awaited trip to Yakushima and Sankara. This family trip was a dream come true. Despite concerns about flight cancellations due to weather and the impact of lightning strikes on the Facility just before our visit, we believed, "It'll be fine! I feel like we're being called to Yakushima!" Our wish came true. If you're going to Yakushima, you want to stay at Sankara—or rather, if you can stay at Sankara, you want to go to Yakushima! That was it. The stay did not disappoint. The awe when standing at the entrance, the comfort of the villa, and the "bathing bed" were all exceptional. For dinner, we dined at okas and ayana—both offered incredibly delicious dishes that made full use of Yakushima's natural blessings. Although we don't drink alcohol, they suggested drinks that paired perfectly with our meals for a delightful dining experience. Every moment during our stay was filled with heartfelt hospitality from all staff members including our butler—it truly felt like a blissful space. We used the 2-day trekking Plan for SPA services which left us refreshed both physically and mentally. SUP tours, Yaksugiland trekking, island tours—we might have crammed too much into our 2-night/3-day trip! But thanks to our dedicated Sankara guide's support, we enjoyed every moment as a family with smiles on this first visit to Yakushima. Thank you so much everyone! Next time around we'd love nothing more than indulging in luxurious downtime while enjoying sunsets or stargazing under skies missed this time—and visiting during another season sounds perfect too! Believing wishes always come true...

    A Hotel That Improves Over Time

    The term "Aging Gracefully" refers to something that becomes more valuable and attractive over time. This perfectly describes AmanKila in Bali. When it opened in 1992, the Garden Suite (the lowest category) was priced at 40,000 yen per night. Now, it exceeds 200,000 yen. Despite the addition of over 1,000 accommodations on the island since then, this hotel remains timeless due to its prime location, well-maintained rooms and facilities, consistent quality of service and cuisine, and its dedication to repeat guests. Sankara is undoubtedly a hotel that will follow this path. This stay has convinced me of that. The day before my stay at Sankara, I was informed that a lightning strike on the premises had disrupted water supply making accommodation impossible. They kindly offered to transfer my reservation to their sister property Samana instead. I communicated my requests with them and their response was exceptional—truly moving. A hotel's true value is tested during emergencies like these. Thanks to their efforts, I enjoyed a blissful time by Sankara's poolside while staying at Samana. I have visited Yakushima for three consecutive years now with a total of 12 nights spent over 15 days: from accommodations where you can step down directly onto Inakahama Beach from your veranda; guesthouses in Miyanoura; pensions in Anbo; Samana Hotel; and four stays totaling seven nights at Sankara where I've rarely seen rain—perhaps we are compatible! (laughs) This was my third Orcas dinner experience but by far the best arrangement yet. Ayana’s dinner surprised me with its high level as it was my first time trying it there. Wine pairings always excite me but this time Orcas' tea pairing felt refreshingly new. There’s nothing left undone for me on Yakushima now—but what stood out most were: 1) Shiratani Unsuikyo & Taiko Rock: hiked three times under rainstorms as well as clear skies; 2) Shower Climbing: requires stamina; 3) And dreamy stays at Sankara. From enjoying beer by the poolside or conversations with chefs/sommeliers during meals at Orcas—to relaxing moments inside rooms overlooking sparkling morning seas or seamless shuttle services provided by attentive butlers—all unforgettable memories! Next year marks completing travels across Japan when visiting Hokkaido nationwide conquest achieved! For now though exploring other regions awaits until returning five years later eagerly anticipating how much more gracefully aged Sankara will become! This recent visit surpassed all expectations thanks entirely towards incredible hospitality extended especially amongst Butler/Restaurant teams who made possible not just refreshing experiences rather transformative rebirth altogether truly grateful beyond words cannot wait another five years perhaps sooner return inevitable! (laughs)

    The staff's service at the Hotel was exceptional. As it was close to my birthday, they surprised me with celebrations during the meal and even in the Room. Thank you very much. Additionally, the massage was excellent, and I appreciate how accommodating they were with my meal requests. Although the narrow road leading to the Hotel made me a bit worried, everything else was perfect.

    Recently, I stayed at the long-admired Sankara Hotel on Yakushima Island. From the moment I stepped in, I was enveloped in a special atmosphere, feeling as if I had entered another world. The room was surrounded by a tranquil forest, and the changing scenery from morning to evening was truly soothing. The sunrise at the entrance, with light reflecting off the sea, was so mesmerizing that I couldn't take my eyes off it. The sunset view over the pool was equally enchanting and made me lose track of time. Every meal was refined and showcased local ingredients with great care, leaving me deeply impressed by their flavors. The warm service from the staff made me feel genuinely welcomed and cared for. I enjoyed a quiet and luxurious time that allowed my mind and body to clear completely. It was an extraordinary stay that makes me want to visit again without fail.

    A one-of-a-kind stay that will make you want to say thank you from the bottom of your heart.

    Stayed at sankara for 2 nights and 3 days, guided by IKYU reviews. Honestly, I had high expectations, but the experience far exceeded them. Before our Yakushima hike, they provided water, and after descending, they prepared compresses—such thoughtful gestures that brought a smile to my face. This trip was to celebrate my husband's birthday. During dinner, they surprised us with a dessert plate celebration, and the staff warmly greeted us with smiles. Returning to our room, we were welcomed by happy birthday music and a towel-made cake display. These continuous surprises filled us with warmth as a couple. At night, we were soothed by the campfire and starlit sky. The lounge offered complimentary drinks at different times of the day. As we departed, freshly baked bread was given as a souvenir. The abundance of coin laundries also made it convenient for long trips. Not just "glad we stayed," but truly "glad we chose this hotel." It was an unforgettable 3-day experience for us.     Yakushima

    From the first day to the last, it was amazing. We visited for our 10th wedding anniversary trip. The hospitality here is uniquely different from top-rated Hotels in Tokyo or the Kanto area. It's rare to feel so good even on the final day of a stay. Although it's not a place we can visit easily, we've found a Hotel we'd love to return to after some time. As for the cuisine, we're looking forward to next time and rated it 4 intentionally. We can't wait for our next visit! Thank you to all the staff for your thoughtful care and attention.

    "Seeing is believing." We highly recommend staying here at least once. From the moment we booked, the thoughtful communication via email made us feel cared for, and we had a truly wonderful time. Surrounded by Yakushima's unique plants, every corner of this accommodation was stunning. The butler service was especially exceptional; despite not being wealthy, we were treated like VIPs, making our two-day stay incredibly memorable. It was our first visit to Yakushima, and even on a rainy first day, we enjoyed lunch, the lounge, and our room. On the second day, they tailored a sightseeing course to fit our schedule and provided navigation in the hotel's rental car so that we could explore without any hassle. This accommodation caters perfectly to guests' needs for an enjoyable stay. It was truly an outstanding hotel!

    Hotel for Adults

    As expected, this is the ultimate Hotel for adults. I stayed for 5 nights, and everything from the staff's service, meals, spa treatments, to the sauna was truly satisfying. The spa treatment rejuvenated my tired body after the Jomon Sugi trekking, champagne by the bonfire, dining with pairing wine at Okas, and enjoying a sauna with an ocean view—all made for an exceptional experience. I will definitely visit again.

    Although it was a short stay of one night and two days, we had a very pleasant time. We enjoyed champagne by the fire at the poolside during sunset and listened to an interesting talk about shochu-making from a local distillery representative in the lounge. At dinner, there was a delightful surprise as soon as we were seated, and not only was the food delicious, but there were thoughtful touches that made the entire dining experience enjoyable. The spa, which I had been looking forward to, provided complete relaxation for both body and mind. Even my husband, who experienced a spa for the first time, was extremely satisfied. The outdoor afternoon tea featured charming arrangements with refreshing breezes that added to the sense of openness and created a blissful moment. In every scene, we felt the high level of hospitality from all staff members, which greatly contributed to our comfortable stay. We were particularly surprised when staff followed up on our conversation about shochu during dinner by reaching out to us personally the next day. Despite attending to many guests, they remembered us and took care of our interests—something we deeply appreciated. Thanks to their assistance, we were able to purchase shochu that suited our preferences perfectly. The sunrise over the horizon viewed from our Room's terrace was breathtakingly beautiful—it felt like it symbolized this trip perfectly. We would love to visit again someday! Thank you very much!

    For the finest service

    I stayed at this accommodation for the first time from April 19th for two nights. Having experienced various hotels and accommodations both domestically and internationally, I can confidently say this was the best service I have ever received! From being attended to at the airport to being sent off on our final day, every staff member we encountered was exceptional. They had a thorough understanding of customer information in advance and provided meticulous care. I visited with my mother and sister, making it a family trip of three, and all of us are still reminiscing about the wonderful experience we had. Even after a tiring 10-hour Jomon Cedar tour, they showed great thoughtfulness by preparing delicious breakfasts and providing items like compresses for recovery. My mother enjoyed an oil spa treatment here, which she said was the best she has ever experienced among countless spas at other hotels—she was absolutely delighted! I’ve never written a review before, but since I couldn’t express my gratitude directly to everyone involved, I wanted to share this so others could experience it too. I will definitely return to Sankara again!!

    The pinnacle of hotels

    I have stayed at various accommodations, including overseas, but I felt this was the pinnacle of hotels. Compared to overseas, I think the price is quite reasonable. First of all, the space surrounding the pool in the main building is amazing! In the evening, a bonfire is lit by the poolside, and you can enjoy complimentary sparkling wine. The sunset in the evening is also beautiful and highly recommended. Personally, I’ve never experienced anything like this elsewhere; it was truly my favorite. Both dinner and breakfast were incredibly delicious! I stayed in a detached room where beer and snacks were also complimentary. The stylish facilities and amenities made it feel like another peak experience! *Depending on your preferences, one downside might be that there is no large public bath.* Lastly, this hotel embodies traditional Japanese hospitality with exceptional service from its staff. After COVID-19, I felt such accommodations had become rare; however, here every staff member exuded genuine hospitality. If I have another chance to visit again, I will definitely stay here.     Early Spring in Yakushima

    After two years, I returned to Yakushima. Fortunately, my flight was not canceled, and I arrived as scheduled. This time, I decided to relax at the Hotel without any specific plans and enjoyed the same warm hospitality as before. The dinner I had been looking forward to was paired wonderfully with wine, making it both delicious and delightful. Although I've visited many times, it's a magical place where you can enjoy yourself without doing anything in particular. The spa helped me unwind completely, leaving both my body and mind refreshed—I am truly grateful for the experience.

    A serene Resort Hotel

    We revisited because we had such a relaxing time last time. The facility, meals, and staff were all as wonderful as the reviews said. The staff responded to our requests with great care. This time, we received onsen tickets and enjoyed the silky onsen at Samana Hotel. Although we are not a couple who usually go hiking, we enjoyed walking through the forest on the Sankara trekking course while looking for new buds. We were blessed with good weather and could drive around the island to see the beautiful contrast of fresh greenery, mountain cherry blossoms, and coniferous trees. We would love to visit again in a different season!

    A Hotel I want to visit again!

    The delicious cuisine, the excellent hospitality of the staff, the comfortable Room environment that allowed us to relax, and the enjoyable Yakushima trekking all made our stay at this Hotel a truly satisfying trip. Additionally, on the night after our trekking day, my husband experienced severe leg cramps. A butler immediately came to assist us and guided him through stretches, which relieved his pain significantly. We are incredibly grateful for their help! This has become one of the Hotels we definitely want to visit again.

    I had heard great reviews about this accommodation, and it truly lived up to its reputation as a place where you can fully enjoy an extraordinary experience—so much so that it feels hard to return to everyday life. The hospitality was exceptional. I felt that the accommodation is thoroughly dedicated to ensuring guests have an enjoyable stay. This time, we stayed for a special occasion, and the anniversary plate during dinner was so wonderful that it moved me deeply. Moreover, I never imagined being able to enjoy such high-quality cuisine on Yakushima Island; every dish was a delightful surprise. I cannot thank the staff enough for their incredible service.
