    A highly rated accommodation with a luxurious feel

    This was a truly wonderful Accommodation that left us extremely satisfied! I highly recommend it for special trips such as anniversaries. ■ Dining Both the taste and portion sizes were excellent, and even my foodie partner was very happy. During dinner, they took a commemorative photo for us and kindly presented it the next morning in a photo frame—such a thoughtful touch. The staff spoke with us proactively, so some guests might feel they need to be extra considerate, but for us it was fun and became a memorable time. ■ Onsen The large public bath had a slightly distinctive smell, perhaps due to the water quality, but towels were provided in the bathing area, which made it very convenient to go empty-handed. Maybe we were lucky with timing, but we were able to relax almost as if it were private. The only small downside was that the massage chair after bathing didn’t have a foot function. The outdoor private open-air bath was breathtaking—the bamboo grove spreading out right in front of you was spectacular! Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great, but even the rainy bamboo grove had its own charm. At night you head there by lantern light, which felt like a little adventure and was exciting. ■ Room We stayed in a second-floor Room with a semi-open-air bath. The bath was spacious enough for two adults to soak comfortably and felt very relaxing. From the bedroom window we could see beautiful green mountains—it was truly soothing and we were completely satisfied. ■ Facility & Amenities From a woman’s perspective, you may want to note a few points about the Facility offerings. Hair irons are not available for loan, so bringing your own is essential. Also, the provided hair dryer had slightly weak airflow; if you’re particular about hair care, I think you’ll feel more comfortable bringing one you’re used to. Skincare amenities were provided from the Accommodation’s original brand. We’ve stayed at many sightseeing Accommodations for anniversary trips before, and overall we felt we had an exceptionally fulfilling stay here. There is also Banana Wani-en nearby (a great stop for sightseeing), making this an excellent location—and above all else, the staff were wonderfully warm. We would love to visit again!

    Wonderful Accommodation

    Based on Reviews and YouTube, I was looking forward to my stay until the day of arrival, excited to experience things for the first time—like a terrace with a footbath and golden eye snapper shabu-shabu enjoyed with the head chef’s signature dashi broth. From the Shuttle Service from the station to the warm welcome at the Accommodation, every staff member—including our Room attendant—provided outstanding service. I was even moved the moment I stepped into the Room. The footbath while gazing at fresh green maple leaves felt incredible, and before the large public bath there were four kinds of drinks and plenty of aroma options. Being able to use them in the Room surrounded me with a wonderful fragrance, and above all it was quiet, relaxing, and truly comfortable. The meals were gentle on the body and absolutely delicious. I’m interested in other Rooms as well, and I’d love to stay in this Room again during peak autumn foliage season.     Your way of choosing a Ryokan may be about to change.

    When my grandchild suddenly decided to visit during Golden Week, I was almost resigned to the idea that there wouldn’t be any Ryokan with vacancies at the last minute. While browsing IKYU, I came across Gyokusui. We usually stay at places that cost around 60,000–70,000 yen per person per night, so to be honest, I assumed that at Gyokusui’s price point the meals and baths would be fairly modest. (Please forgive my rudeness.) However, although the Room does show its age, the food was delicious—we even enjoyed spiny lobster and abalone. As for the baths, we were able to enjoy two private open-air baths in our Room with free-flowing hot spring water. The temperature was perfect, and we went in many times. The staff member in charge of our Room was a foreigner, but they were very pleasant, and we had a truly comfortable stay. It was such excellent value for money that it made me feel silly for always searching only for expensive Ryokan until now. The garden is beautifully maintained, and you can really feel the effort put into keeping this price while offering thoughtful services in various ways. We would definitely like to visit again. By the way, it seems they no longer offer coffee milk as mentioned in some Reviews. I had been looking forward to it because coffee milk after a bath is so good—so it was disappointing—but given today’s rising prices, it can’t be helped.

    A Relaxing Accommodation

    I usually book Accommodation on the seaside when visiting the Izu area, so this was my first time in Oku-Atagawa. A bamboo grove and the gentle murmur of a stream, and in the Room, the soothing sound of fresh hot spring water flowing into the semi-open-air bath. The large public bath had a spotless indoor bath and two outdoor open-air baths. The food was delicious and plentiful—very satisfying. With the IKYU Diamond benefit, we enjoyed sparkling wine while gazing at the stars from the Room window (you can see so many stars in Oku-Atagawa). It was a 1-night, 2-day stay, but we were able to spend a truly relaxing time.

    Thank you for remembering our previous exchange when our stay had to be canceled due to a temporary closure, and for welcoming us so warmly from the moment we arrived. At check-in, the staff member who had been emailing with us even came to greet us despite being busy, and I was truly happy to be able to thank them in person. The terrace Room I had been looking forward to for so long was just as wonderful as I’d imagined when I first fell in love with the photos—actually even better. It was so comfortable that we lost track of time and were able to relax at a leisurely pace. During the day, we enjoyed the breeze and birdsong, and at night, soaking our feet under the moonlight felt like pure luxury. Although it was cloudy that day, on our way to the private bath a staff member showed us an image of a sky full of stars—it was so beautiful I wanted it made into a panel—and it left a lasting impression. When we asked about the IKYU Diamond Member benefits, you responded kindly and thoroughly. From thoughtful touches that made items easy to take home to preparations for rainy weather, we truly felt the warmth of your Accommodation through such attentive care. During our Multiple Night Stay, every staff member we spoke with conveyed pride in their work here, and it was comforting no matter who we interacted with. We are also grateful to the team who kept our Room beautifully arranged. Just one thing…! The only real disappointment was that the bottled coffee milk and milk—something I had seen on Instagram and was most looking forward to enjoying with my husband while soaking our feet—was no longer available. In fact, when we traveled around Izu over a week last year, whether an Accommodation offered coffee milk was such an important factor that it even influenced which places we chose. Since I’d spoken so enthusiastically about it to my husband as well, learning that it had been replaced by teas (the jasmine tea was delicious!) honestly left me feeling disappointed. It would be very helpful if changes like this could be announced in advance so guests can prepare themselves mentally. If possible—even if offered for an additional charge—we would be absolutely thrilled if you could bring back bottled coffee milk! That said, aside from this one point, it was an outstanding stay overall—filled with warmth from everyone and exceptional comfort that will stay with us. Thank you for remembering my husband’s milestone celebration that we couldn’t do last year and celebrating again this time; there are countless other wonderful memories too many to write here. We will definitely return again—with the crane charm you gave us on departure attached until then. Thank you very much for taking such great care of us during our stay.

    We were extremely satisfied.

    We stayed here as a couple and had a wonderful time. In addition to the in-room indoor Onsen bath and open-air bath, there is also a private open-air Onsen bath in a corner of the spacious garden, which can be reserved at check-in for 40 minutes per group. There is even a large public bath, so we truly enjoyed Onsen to the fullest. We were told that each bath is carefully temperature-controlled by dedicated staff, and we were able to relax and enjoy the Onsen as much as we liked. The meals were also excellent. We chose the “Delicious Small-Portion Kaiseki” course, but it was more than enough, and the fish dishes in particular—sashimi, grilled fish, and simmered fish—were outstanding. The staff’s attentiveness was exceptional: when we were relaxing in the lobby after bathing, they quietly offered us sherbet on the house; meal explanations were clear and efficient; and each dish was served with perfect timing. Especially appreciated was their dedicated attendant system—one staff member looked after us from check-in to check-out—making it easy to ask small questions whenever needed. We were also given a crane good-luck charm for safe travels home, which truly moved us. They kindly took many photos for us as well, leaving us with great memories. We had an extremely satisfying stay. Thank you very much.

    A Ryokan where time flows slowly

    We had a comfortable stay.

    We received outstanding service from the moment we arrived at the parking lot until we left. We are especially grateful to Mr./Ms. A at reception, and to Mr./Ms. M and Mr./Ms. P for taking care of our Room and meals. Mr./Ms. P is still in training, but their kindness and dedication really came through. The Room was very well designed, including the bath area. The cuisine was thoughtfully prepared, with excellent ingredients, and everything was delicious. The large public bath was great indoors as well; the open-air bath is on the smaller side but was wonderful. The water quality suited me perfectly and warmed me thoroughly. The private detached bath felt open and airy just like in the photos. About 50 years ago, we stayed at Gyokusui near the station, so it brought back fond memories of the name as well. We would love to visit again as a couple. Thank you very much.

    We had a wonderful stay.

    Since we arrived by train, we requested a Shuttle Service Reservation to the station. As soon as we got into the car—with a step provided for easier boarding—we were handed hot oshibori towels, and the hospitality had already begun. The welcome at arrival, the welcome drink in the lounge, and check-in were all very pleasant. Our Room was the detached suite “Hase,” which features two continuously flowing baths: an indoor bath made of Izu stone and an open-air hinoki bath. Both were excellent in size and temperature. In addition, there is a large public bath comparable to those at a typical Ryokan, with two open-air baths as well—and we enjoyed those too. There was even a private open-air bath. For anyone who loves hot springs, it’s beyond irresistible—truly top-class. The garden is a spacious Japanese garden centered around serene bamboo. We also enjoyed doing the Seven Lucky Gods pilgrimage route on the grounds, which was very satisfying. We spent relaxing time talking about how stunning it must be in autumn with fall colors, and how we’d like to return during cherry blossom season. Dinner was described as a “delicious small-portion kaiseki,” but this is small? Still, everything was delicious—and we forgot all about eating too much. What stood out most was how naturally every staff member offered hospitality. It never felt forced or simply “because it’s their job”—we could truly feel their sincerity. It was only one night, but we had an incredibly fulfilling stay. Thank you very much.

    A well-balanced Accommodation, just as the Reviews said

    In a word, just as other Reviews say, this is a truly well-balanced Accommodation. For this price and quality, it’s an unquestionable 5 stars. First, the phone guidance for the Shuttle Service was very pleasant. On the day, the Shuttle Service driver was courteous, and when we arrived at the Accommodation, a staff member was waiting in the rain with an umbrella. At the entrance we were warmly welcomed with formal Japanese hospitality. After that as well—starting with our attendant assigned to our Room—every staff member who helped us throughout the property greeted us with warm smiles and thoughtful attention, making for a very comfortable stay. Since it rained on our arrival day, wearing a traditional hat while bathing in the open-air bath was a great experience. The large public bath and the bath in our Room were at just the right temperature and left my skin feeling smooth. The meals were filling but not excessive—an exquisite portion size that you can just finish. Personally, I was truly happy that the course I chose did not include whole simmered golden eye snapper. I had grown tired of seeing it everywhere. It was also a nice touch—especially for those who drink—that they placed a pot of iced water in our Room during dinner. Right after returning home I wanted to go again and checked availability, but unfortunately our schedule didn’t match. I hope to visit again someday.

    Your attention to detail was exceptional, and we were able to spend the entire stay in great comfort. The warm welcome when we stepped inside the property was unlike anything we had experienced before, and it honestly left us feeling almost undeserving. Thank you so much for welcoming us with such heartfelt kindness. We also made use of the footbath on our Room terrace whenever we had a moment. Soaking our feet while sipping coffee beneath the fresh greenery on the beautifully maintained terrace was truly a luxurious experience. The view from the Room was simply breathtaking. Next time, we would love to stay with three generations of our family.

    Well-equipped Facilities and amenities

    Both the Room and the garden were spacious, the Facility and amenities were well stocked, the hot water was excellent, and the meals—starting with fresh sashimi—were varied and delicious. The bedroom had an aroma diffuser, with a service that lets you freely choose and use essential oils, plus post-bath drinks and many other thoughtful touches. It was also pleasant to see seasonal flowers beautifully arranged throughout the property, and I think the value is unbeatable. All of the staff were kind and friendly, but their manner was a bit casual. Phrases like “Was it tasty?”, “Are you okay?”, or “Do you understand?” can feel intimidating to some guests, so I think more humble and discreet service would further enhance the inn’s sense of refinement. I’d love to visit again with close friends.

    A Hidden Retreat for Adults

    The staff were exceptionally polite and attentive. The meals were not only delicious, but also felt thoughtfully prepared. The Room was spacious, and I was impressed that even original amenities were provided. Women can choose a yukata, and samue are also kept in the Room—everything is taken care of. The Onsen water is gentle and left my skin silky smooth—perfect! I plan to stay again within the year and become a repeat guest.

    This was my second visit. From being picked up at the station and welcomed at the Accommodation, to the guidance, meals, and seeing us off at departure with a drop-off back to the station, everything felt thoughtfully and attentively hosted.     It was a wonderful accommodation.

    A quiet, beautiful mountain village where you can hear only the murmuring river and birdsong. Every staff member provided truly outstanding service, making our stay wonderfully comfortable and happy. Because the price was so reasonable, we didn’t expect much, but the service was first-class—hospitality on par with an Accommodation in the 200,000-yen-per-night range. We are deeply grateful for the thoughtful attention to our dietary dislikes. We will definitely return.

    This Accommodation is a relaxing place to stay, even with children.

    From the warm welcome to the heartfelt send-off, we truly felt the hospitality of all the staff. After arriving, we enjoyed matcha and sweets while looking out at the garden. Later, we were helped into colorful yukata in our Room, took a stroll through the bamboo grove, and were able to take photos together—making it a wonderful memory. Since my grandson (a boy) is now in elementary school and can no longer use the large public bath with us, we looked for an Accommodation with an open-air bath in the Room and private open-air baths and made a Reservation here. The staff were also very kind to our child, and we had a genuinely comfortable stay. The meals were delicious, and we were especially surprised by how elaborate the children’s meal was. The amenities were well stocked, and we appreciated having samue as well; it felt great on the skin and was very comfortable without feeling tight at the waist. However, I noticed that the size mark on the back was rubbed off and it bothered me a bit, so I would be grateful if it could be removed. Also, although our stay was blessed with clear weather, since the private open-air bath is located in the garden, moving there might be a little difficult on rainy days. The Onsen water was gentle on our skin and felt wonderful to use. My daughter said that a rash caused by dryness cleared up during our stay, and my own skin also became smooth. We also appreciated the Shuttle Service; however, since there is a final bus at 11:00—which is also check-out time—we would be grateful if it could be even 10 minutes later so we could relax more. Regarding the IKYU benefit of sparkling wine: since we cannot drink alcohol and it would be heavy to take home, my daughter only had a little at night but most of it went unused—so it felt like such a waste despite being a nice perk. Overall, this was an excellent Accommodation and we were very satisfied.

    Well-Balanced Accommodation

    We were greeted promptly upon arrival and received a very warm welcome. Some guests may be impressed by the formal kneeling greeting, but considering the times, it felt a bit too much for us. We had made a Reservation for an esthetic treatment, but because the treatment time overlapped with dinner, we could not enjoy tea afterward and had to head straight to the dining venue, which felt rushed and reduced how relaxing it was. We would have appreciated being informed in advance about scheduling and time allocation when making the Reservation. The meals, Facilities, and service are not particularly luxurious, but considering the Accommodation Fee, everything is very well balanced and we could feel the management’s efforts. As it was cherry blossom season, we also enjoyed viewing them from the open-air bath in the large public bath. We would like to visit again if we have another opportunity.     The Kawazu cherry blossoms were beautiful.

    The Kawazu cherry blossoms were beautifully in bloom at a park near the Accommodation, and we were able to enjoy a relaxing hanami. The Onsen was also on the hotter side, so it warmed us up nicely during the cold winter season. The meals, featuring mainly fish dishes, were very delicious. Next time, I’d like to visit one of your affiliated Accommodations as well.

    It was exactly as expected.

    This was my second visit after a full year, and I enjoyed my stay just as much as—if not more than—the first time, even though it was only for one night. It is a Facility that makes you want to book a Multiple Night Stay next time. K-ko, who was in charge of my Room, clearly remembered my previous visit, which felt wonderfully nostalgic. Everyone provided very courteous service, and I felt truly satisfied—just as I did with the Onsen. I hope to return and enjoy Izu in every season.     I love Onsen.

    A 13-Room Onsen Ryokan surrounded by gardens in Oku-Atagawa. The building shows its age, but the Rooms and common areas are very well cleaned and feel fresh and tidy. With check-in from 2:30 pm, it’s perfect for guests who want to relax at the Onsen and in their Room. We stayed in “Muro,” the most secluded Room. It has two types of open-air baths, making it one of the best options among Rooms with a private bath. The water quality was excellent. The free private bath was also great, especially the rock bath. The staff were wonderful—warm, attentive, and truly hospitable. The only downside was the meals. Compared with other Ryokan in the same price range, they were average and didn’t leave a strong impression. If food is your main priority, this may feel a bit lacking. Overall, we were very satisfied and would like to stay again in a different Room.

    Exceptional hospitality

    We stayed here to celebrate my husband’s new job after retirement. I had back surgery five months ago and still find walking difficult, but without me saying anything, the staff noticed how I walked and kindly showed me a route with ramps. During dinner, they heard us say “congratulations” and asked if we were celebrating something, then offered to take a commemorative photo. The next day, they even presented it to us as a framed gift. Every staff member—not only the Japanese employees—was attentive to these small details, making our trip truly pleasant.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    We were able to relax in the free-flowing Onsen fed directly from the source. We chose a smaller-course meal, and it was just the right amount for us. After dinner, we were kindly guided to the private bath and enjoyed it. It was a wonderful Accommodation where we could enjoy a luxurious feeling.

    Should I keep my expectations for the meals modest?

    Dinner did not meet our expectations, so we have to rate it strictly. It would be even better if, at the time of Reservation, guests could choose not only a set course but also à la carte dishes. It is disappointing because everything else—service, the Room, the Onsen, and more—was excellent. Breakfast was delicious, so if there were a Plan with breakfast only, we would definitely like to stay again in the future.

    In the rain

    This time, our trip was in the rain for the first time in a while. The Room was spacious, and we were very satisfied with the bath and the meals. However, it was very disappointing that the explanation from the staff member at check-in felt rather perfunctory. Even though the other staff were working hard, small things like that can greatly change one’s impression. We look forward to next time. Also, it was a shame that the TV was small and that there were not enough vanity stations in the women’s bath area.

    Another party arrive...

    Another party arrived by car just before us, so our arrivals overlapped, but we were guided courteously. There are a few steps up to the entrance, which added a charming atmosphere. The staff member’s language and manner were very refined, and we could truly feel their hospitality. We stayed in a Japanese-style Room on the second floor. It was compact, but spacious enough for the two of us. There was a small tear in the little sliding door (right side) under the TV where the safe is located—it wasn’t very noticeable, but it was there. In the shower room, there was an unpleasant odor like ammonia. When we left the door from the shower room to the balcony open, it seemed ventilated and didn’t bother us, but when closed, it did. I think it would be good to carry out more thorough checks of the Facility. We used the large public bath. Both bath towels and face towels were provided, which was convenient. In particular, having face towels placed by the door from the changing area into the bath felt like thoughtful consideration of guest flow. The water had an easy-to-enjoy quality with no strong characteristics—exactly my preference. Since it was a Japanese-style Room, they prepared our futons while we were at dinner. We were informed about that in advance, but we weren’t told that they would put them away during breakfast. I had hoped to relax and lie down after breakfast as well, so I was a little disappointed when staff entered our Room during breakfast without us expecting it. This was also on us for not confirming beforehand—a good lesson for future stays in Japanese-style Accommodations. In the garden, Kawazu cherry blossoms were blooming and several Japanese white-eyes were flying around—it really felt like spring. The bamboo grove was also soothing. There were many maple trees too, so I imagine autumn foliage must be wonderful. This is an Accommodation I would like to visit again. If we have another chance next time, I’d love to stay in a Room with a view of the garden. Thank you very much for your hospitality this time.

    Exceptional hospitality with every detail thoughtfully taken care of.

    We were able to relax and unwind as a couple for two nights and three days. From the moment we arrived at the parking lot, attentive hospitality began, transporting us into an extraordinary world. During our stay, it seemed we had a dedicated attendant, and we were supported mainly by that person. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and we also enjoyed chatting with our attendant. Conversations with other staff members flowed naturally as well, and we were impressed by the comfortable sense of distance they maintained. The cherry blossoms in the garden were beautiful too. Both Japanese and Western dishes were outstanding, and I will share photos as well. They handled the allergies we informed them about in advance with great care and thoroughness, which made us feel at ease. Not only was the open-air bath in our Room wonderful, but so were the two types of open-air baths and the indoor bath in the large public bath area. We also fully enjoyed the reclining bath inside and the massage chairs over all three days. In the private outdoor open-air bath available once per day, on the first day we relaxed under a sky full of stars while listening to the river’s murmur and sounds from the bamboo grove; on the second day we enjoyed it during daylight. At night, we strolled through the garden, greeted the Seven Lucky Gods as we walked through the bamboo grove, and visited a shrine dedicated to Onsen deeper inside. The Room amenities were lovely as well. The Onsen face pack? Both my wife and I tried it, and it left our skin wonderfully soft. I was also personally happy that even washing my face came with a pleasant hinoki cypress fragrance. On our final day, just as we planned to check out slowly, our attendant called to inform us about traffic conditions in Tokyo due to snow as well as snowfall along our route home, encouraging us to depart early. Thanks to that thoughtful advice, we could head home with peace of mind. We are truly grateful for such attentive care throughout these two nights and three days. Thank you very much—we would love to stay again.

    We’ll be back!

    We stayed here as a couple. The Kawazu cherry blossoms were in bloom in the garden and were absolutely beautiful. The meals and the Onsen were wonderful, and we were completely satisfied. From our welcome to dining and our send-off, one staff member took care of us throughout, which made us feel at ease.     A Bamboo Grove Garden and Tranquility

    An early 2:30 PM check-in made it feel like a nice little bonus. The private annex had two baths, and the temperature was adjusted with great care. The service also struck the right balance—attentive without being intrusive. The meals were elaborate and delicious, though the seasoning was a bit strong for older guests. Above all, despite being in Atagawa Onsen, the peaceful setting was outstanding.
