What I Learned During a Multiple Night Stay
This was my third stay after a long time, and the first time I booked a two-night Multiple Night Stay. We chose the top-tier “Izu Tabi ‘Sui’” dinner course, and for four people it came to about 250,000 yen—certainly not what I would call an affordable rate—but I splurged because I wanted my family to enjoy it. On the first night, the main dishes listed on IKYU were served: whole simmered kinmedai (splendid alfonsino), grilled abalone, and domestic sirloin steak. However, on the second night the portions were smaller, and the mains changed to kinmedai shabu-shabu (five slices), roast pork (two slices), and snow crab. The snow crab tasted good, but I ended up feeling hungry by bedtime. The calorie difference between night one and night two must have been significant. Since our Reservation was for the same course on both nights, I wondered if the Ryokan had made a mistake. When I asked before checkout, I was told something along the lines of: “Some guests prefer not to have the same mains on the second night. If you would like identical mains for a Multiple Night Stay, please tell us at the time of booking.” From my perspective, though, it simply felt like they changed our main dishes without asking. There is also no note on IKYU about changing main dishes for Multiple Night Stays or confirming dinner details with the Accommodation—so in hindsight, perhaps we should have made separate one-night Reservations instead. As always, all staff were extremely polite and pleasant. We enjoyed a quiet two nights/three days stay, and the baths were clean as ever—so it is truly disappointing that dinner on day two fell short. As an aside: parts of the tatami flooring, hinoki bath area/bath tub(s), balcony chairs, and outdoor bath structure seem to be showing some wear. The brown massage chair in the women’s bath also seems partially broken (the one in the men’s bath is new). This was my first such experience with an IKYU Reservation; however, I learned that if staying multiple nights here again, it seems essential for guests to proactively confirm course details by phone in advance. My parents were very well taken care of throughout by everyone on staff. After all، at an Onsen destination، both bathing and dining are key highlights of any getaway. We hope to visit again when we have another opportunity. Thank you very much.

We stayed here for an anniversary trip. The Room was bright and pleasant, making it a very comfortable space. From the warm welcome to our departure, all the staff provided consistently thoughtful and attentive service throughout our stay, and we were impressed from start to finish. The Onsen was wonderful as well, and we enjoyed it many times. It left both our skin and hair feeling cared for and silky smooth. The meals—and the way they were served—were outstanding, and everything tasted exceptional. The tableware was beautiful too; we couldn’t help but feel the chef’s dedication in every detail. Thanks to you, we had a truly enjoyable dining experience. We’re also deeply grateful for the lovely photos you took—they mean so much to us and will be treasured keepsakes. We sincerely appreciate being able to spend such a wonderful time here. We’ve already been talking about coming back again soon. We look forward to seeing you then.

I stayed here the year before last and it was so great that I came back again. I’m very satisfied. The biggest difference this time was that the staff member in charge was from Nepal; their Japanese was excellent and they were very pleasant. Please keep up the great work in Japan.

The indoor bath is amazing!
Although it is located in a place that is hard to reach without navigation—after driving quite a while up a narrow uphill road from the national highway—once you step onto the property, you immediately feel like you are at an Izu Onsen. The sound of wind chimes in the lobby eased half of my driving fatigue, and while the large public bath and open-air bath were of course wonderful, the indoor bath in the Room was exceptional and completely melted away my tiredness. The bathtub, water volume, and water temperature were all perfect. Another highlight you can’t experience in a city apartment was the sheer amount and power of hot water from the shower—it was impressive. Dinner featured an excellent salt-grilled ayu and lava-grilled beef, along with a variety of dishes served on many different plates that were fun to look at. And the rice was delicious.

Seeking a Peaceful Getaway
Thank you for your kind consideration and for taking care of us.

We were soothed by the service and the Onsen.
This was my second stay. The person in charge of our Room and the other staff were efficient, kind, and a pleasure to deal with. Both the Room and the entire Accommodation felt very clean, calm, and relaxing. The free-flowing Onsen in the Room and the large public bath was also wonderful—I enjoyed it many times. The grilled dancing abalone was tender and delicious. Following last year, we stayed again this year as well, and it really reminded us how great this Accommodation is. We will definitely return. Thank you very much to all the staff.

A place in Atagawa you’ll want to make your go-to Accommodation.
Atagawa has wonderful Onsen, so I used to stay at various seaside Accommodations, but I could never find one that truly made me want to return. Gyokusui!! This was my first stay, and I was so satisfied that I made my next Reservation right away. Not only the Onsen, but everything from the pickup at the station to the send-off was filled with heartfelt hospitality from every staff member. Thank you very much. Every dish was delicious, and I especially enjoyed the chilled simmered dish for its refreshing taste. By chance, the large public bath was almost private, so I could relax and fully enjoy it, and the bath in my Room was at just the right temperature—I used it many times. However, because the sofa in the Room is a chaise lounge style (?), everyone probably ends up sitting on one side. The seat cushioning felt a bit worn out, and the colored yukata were quite worn as well, so I deducted one star. I will visit again—thank you in advance.

Very satisfied.
Upon arrival, a staff member came to greet us right away (laughs) and guided us. As soon as we entered the building, it was warm, and all the staff welcomed us so kindly that we almost felt overwhelmed. From check-in to check-out, the hospitality of our attendant (Ms. M) made our stay exceptionally comfortable. As I also wrote in the questionnaire, it would be perfect if alcoholic options such as Shizuoka Beer were available among the post-bath drinks—please consider this. It’s an Accommodation we would like to visit again. Thank you very much.

The staff’s hospitality was outstanding.
We stayed in a second-floor Room with a garden. Thanks to the wonderful hospitality of the staff, we had a very comfortable stay. We thoroughly enjoyed the large public bath, the open-air bath in our Room, and the semi-open-air bath—all with free-flowing natural hot spring water. The meals were also delicious and reflected the season. However, there were a few disappointing points. First, compared with other Ryokan, the yukata provided for women felt smaller in size and made of thinner fabric. We hardly saw any guests wearing yukata inside the building—perhaps others felt the same way. Another concern was that there was no lock on the door to the semi-open-air bath, which made us worry about security. If these issues are improved, we would like to visit again.

This was the best Accommodation I’ve ever stayed at.
As soon as we parked, we were warmly welcomed and guided to the lobby with very little walking. It is not large, but it was very clean with a lovely view, and we enjoyed matcha in a relaxed atmosphere. With minimal walking again, we went up to our Room on the second floor. The Room was just the right size, spotless, and the view from the window was outstanding. Above all, the private Onsen in the Room with free-flowing natural spring water had an amazing view and perfect temperature—so satisfying that we did not even need to use the public bath. The dining area was stylish and comfortable. The portions were generous, but each dish was beautifully prepared, lightly seasoned, and delicious. We will definitely stay again.

Our finest Midori Kaiseki featuring grilled dancing abalone, beef steak, and whole simmered golden eye snapper.
The finest Midori Kaiseki was a feast—beautifully presented, delicious, and very filling. Overall, the Room was comfortable and the open-air bath was great, but unfortunately I was bothered by cigarette smoke smell every day while using the open-air bath.

We had a very comfortable stay and were extremely satisfied.
The facilities are not particularly luxurious, but the garden, common areas, and rooms were carefully cleaned, making our stay truly comfortable. We also sincerely appreciated the thoughtful hospitality of all the staff.

Highly Satisfying Accommodation
We stayed here to celebrate my husband’s birthday, as he loves Onsen. They picked us up at Izu-Atagawa Station, and noticing that my husband had difficulty going up and down stairs, they kindly drove us around to an entrance where we could enter the Accommodation without climbing the stone steps. The semi-open-air bath in our Room was also fed directly from the source, and we thoroughly enjoyed plenty of hot water. A bathrobe was provided as well, which we were very happy about. At the large public bath, both towels and bath towels were available, and there was even a small pouch you can use when going to the dining area—overall, we felt their attention to detail was excellent. The meals were served at just the right pace, and everything remained delicious through to the end. As a birthday surprise, they took photos of us during dinner and gifted them to us in a photo frame—thank you very much. The photo included the date and a comment, making it a wonderful keepsake. This is an Accommodation we were truly satisfied with and would definitely like to visit again.

We were completely satisfied with this accommodation.
Because IKYU has such a strong reputation, this was my first time booking through it. From the moment I was guided in from the parking area and stepped into the entrance, I was surprised by the staff’s formal, respectful welcome. After a thorough explanation in the lobby, we were served traditional Japanese sweets and matcha before being shown to our Room. The first standout feature of this Accommodation is its abundant free-flowing natural Onsen. The private open-air bath, the large public bath, and even the in-room bath are all continuously flowing. Everything was beautifully maintained and very pleasant to use. The in-room Onsen was a bit hot, so when I asked if it could be made cooler, an attendant came promptly to adjust it despite the late hour—such thoughtful service. Second, perhaps because of a renovation a few years ago, the building and Facility are exceptionally well cared for, making our stay very comfortable. Third—and most impressive—was the attentive service from all employees. There were also international staff members, but every single person treated us warmly and professionally throughout our stay. We were able to relax until checkout. I was genuinely impressed by how high their training standards must be. Lastly, the food was delicious as well. Each dish was carefully prepared and served with great care—another highlight that made me understand why this place is so highly rated. I would love to visit again someday.

It was a stay where we truly felt the spirit of hospitality.
Stays like this seem to be becoming rare these days. I was truly impressed by the outstanding attentiveness and consideration. It reminded me once again how wonderful Japanese hospitality is. I traveled with a small, elderly family member, and without us having to ask, you thoughtfully provided many accommodations—such as slippers and samue in the right sizes, and a cushion for the dining chair. Unfortunately it rained, but when a staff member escorted us to the private bath, he brought out shoes instead of the Accommodation’s standard footwear. Just when I thought I might mention it, he had already noticed—this kind of thoughtful care was everywhere. Even in the dining area, whenever I was about to ask for more tea, it would be brought right away—service that anticipates your needs. All of the dishes were delicious. It may seem like a small thing, but I really appreciated how detailed the menu was; since I tend to forget explanations as soon as I hear them, it helped a lot. The bath temperature was perfect as well. The Yumoribito amenity series also felt great to use. We will definitely visit again—thank you very much!

Perfect for celebrations!
We stayed to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and thank you very much for your exceptionally courteous hospitality. The free-flowing hot spring bath was wonderfully relaxing. The meals were a delight to the eyes and absolutely delicious. We even received a commemorative photo in a photo frame. We would love to stay again for our next anniversary.\n\nThat said, although it couldn’t be helped, the roads around the Accommodation were narrow and hard to navigate, which was a bit challenging. On the other hand, it was quiet and peaceful, so we were able to relax and take our time.

It was a wonderful Ryokan, and I’d love to come back again. If the bath had a sauna, it would be perfect. I’ll recommend it to my friends.

This Accommodation offers two in-room open-air baths, with excellent service and outstanding cuisine.
From the round-trip Shuttle Service to the hospitality throughout the Accommodation and meals, everything was truly outstanding and left a strong impression on me. I was surprised to find there were two private open-air baths in the guest room, and I really enjoyed the creative course after using the private open-air bath—taking a walk through the bamboo grove to look for the Seven Lucky Gods and visiting Inari Daimyojin. All of the dishes were delicious and very generous in portion size, and I regret that I couldn’t finish everything. If I had one small request, it would be appreciated if more of the drinks in the refrigerator were complimentary—only water was free and everything else was charged. Overall, though, I think this Accommodation is excellent. It reminded me that Atagawa Onsen has places with such a unique atmosphere. I would love to stay again if I have another opportunity. Thank you very much.

A relaxing accommodation where you can feel heartfelt hospitality
We stayed here for the first time to celebrate my mother’s 90th birthday. The staff were very kind, and thanks to them we were able to relax and unwind. The dinner presentation was thoughtfully arranged, and we truly enjoyed a delicious meal. We were also able to borrow a celebratory outfit for her, and they gifted us commemorative photos. Our Room had a garden semi-open-air Onsen bath; the greenery was soothing to the eyes, and we could enjoy the Onsen at a leisurely pace. The massage chair was also a nice touch. The private open-air bath was more spacious than expected—a pleasant surprise. Fresh flowers were displayed throughout, which felt like wonderful hospitality. My elderly mother has weak legs, so going up and down the stairs was a bit difficult. If there had been an elevator, I think our stay would have been even more comfortable. Thank you very much for all your help. My mother was very happy as well.

We were truly impressed.
This stay was a gift for my mother. My family often takes her to wonderful Accommodation, so I wanted to surprise her with a Hotel of the same caliber they usually choose—and for me, it was a splurge. Everything was outstanding: the cuisine and tableware, the thoughtful presentation and hospitality, the Room, and the garden. My mother loves flowers, so we were especially happy to see fresh flowers beautifully arranged throughout the property and in our Room. We were both truly moved. Our attendant was exceptionally courteous and provided heartfelt service that impressed us deeply. The appetizer presentation, conger eel, simmered vegetables, and other dishes were full of rich flavor, and the golden eye snapper shabu-shabu was delicious—far beyond what I had imagined. When I make a Reservation, I read Reviews carefully. There were some critical Reviews as well, but since we were able to Reserve at a very reasonable weekday rate, it felt like exceptional value far exceeding the price for me. Onsen temperatures can feel different depending on the outdoor temperature; some guests may find it hot on certain days. However, if you ask, they will adjust the temperature of your in-room Onsen individually, and our attendant checked in with us thoughtfully. It truly is an Accommodation where every detail is taken care of. It became the best possible gift. Also, during our stay there were only adults present, so we could spend our time quietly. It’s quite far for us to travel there, but if there’s another good deal on IKYU at the right time, it’s an Accommodation I would gladly visit again and again. Above all else, their attentive care made us feel genuinely valued—I kept thinking how wonderful this Accommodation is. For me it’s normally an out-of-reach price range (Accommodation), so I felt lucky to stay at such a good rate. It also made me think that when I’ve worked hard and want to reward myself، staying somewhere like this and relaxing is truly special. It was such a peaceful time that I found myself wishing I could stay longer.

A Reward Trip for Two Women
Two women stayed for one night and two days. The meals featured seasonal ingredients, with great flavor and a generous variety of dishes, and we enjoyed everything to the very end. The plum dishes were especially delicious. The bath amenities were well stocked, the water temperature was just right, and since it was an open-air bath attached to the guest room, we could relax and soak for a long time. After bathing, our skin felt smooth and moisturized. Every staff member was pleasant, making our stay comfortable—it was a truly satisfying reward trip.

The meals and the Onsen were great, but.
I moved to the Kanto area for a job transfer and stayed here for our wedding anniversary. The food was delicious, and the Onsen was very relaxing. The amenities, shampoo, and conditioner were also good. I’m not sure if it depends on the Room grade or the Plan, but other guests received a complimentary photo gift. I mentioned in my message that it was our wedding anniversary, but there was nothing in particular (lol). At other Hotels and Ryokan where we’ve stayed for anniversaries, there was usually some kind of service, which made it feel special… As for the after-bath sherbet, when I sat down they only brought me barley tea. Looking around, I saw others eating sherbet, so I thought, “Well, whatever,” and went back to my Room. A few small things left me wondering, and it bothered me that the service didn’t feel equal. Probably not next time.

Outstanding hospitality.
The staff’s hospitality was outstanding. Due to a typhoon, the trains were suspended, and because we had to shift the day of travel, we had to leave the Accommodation early in the morning. When we asked them to call a taxi, we were told taxis could not respond that early, but the Accommodation kindly provided Shuttle Service for us. Without it, we would have had to walk 40–50 minutes carrying our luggage. Our stay also coincided with the Firefly Festival period, and after dinner they provided Shuttle Service to the venue and included a raffle ticket—an invaluable experience. The staff member in charge was kind and attentive; nothing to complain about. Next to the large public bath area, there were four types of drinks set out: green tea, jasmine tea, lemon water, and rooibos tea. The Room was spacious as well, and with fewer guest rooms overall, we were able to relax and truly enjoy our stay at the Accommodation. Thank you very much for everything.

It was a nice accommodation, but...
It was a quiet Accommodation tucked slightly into the mountains. The in-room open-air bath was just right and very relaxing. Dinner was a delicious small-portion kaiseki course, so we could enjoy a variety of dishes, and we requested a Western-style breakfast, which was filling and tasty. What disappointed me was that when I used the wooden bed (?) installed inside the large public bath tub, some wood screws were loose or had come out, and I injured my finger. I’m sure it was intended as a nice feature, but it was a bit disappointing. Also, the staff’s Japanese felt somewhat uncertain at times, and on several occasions our intentions didn’t come across. I think it’s a good Accommodation overall, so if these small points are improved, I feel the stay would have been even more comfortable.

This is my third stay.
This time, although I hesitated, I ended up staying the day before an approaching typhoon. When I arrived, it was raining lightly, so I used the indoor bath instead of the garden open-air bath. However, the wooden reclining platform inside the tub was starting to rot, and some nails were slightly raised. It felt unsafe, so I hope it can be repaired. Other than that, including the service, I was very satisfied.

We had a very pleasant stay. We truly appreciated your thoughtful consideration of my wife’s dietary preferences, your photography advice while we were walking around the garden to see the starry sky, and your kind attention in the lounge. The Facility was also clean and well maintained.

A highly rated accommodation with a luxurious feel
This was a truly wonderful Accommodation that left us extremely satisfied! I highly recommend it for special trips such as anniversaries. ■ Dining Both the taste and portion sizes were excellent, and even my foodie partner was very happy. During dinner, they took a commemorative photo for us and kindly presented it the next morning in a photo frame—such a thoughtful touch. The staff spoke with us proactively, so some guests might feel they need to be extra considerate, but for us it was fun and became a memorable time. ■ Onsen The large public bath had a slightly distinctive smell, perhaps due to the water quality, but towels were provided in the bathing area, which made it very convenient to go empty-handed. Maybe we were lucky with timing, but we were able to relax almost as if it were private. The only small downside was that the massage chair after bathing didn’t have a foot function. The outdoor private open-air bath was breathtaking—the bamboo grove spreading out right in front of you was spectacular! Unfortunately the weather wasn’t great, but even the rainy bamboo grove had its own charm. At night you head there by lantern light, which felt like a little adventure and was exciting. ■ Room We stayed in a second-floor Room with a semi-open-air bath. The bath was spacious enough for two adults to soak comfortably and felt very relaxing. From the bedroom window we could see beautiful green mountains—it was truly soothing and we were completely satisfied. ■ Facility & Amenities From a woman’s perspective, you may want to note a few points about the Facility offerings. Hair irons are not available for loan, so bringing your own is essential. Also, the provided hair dryer had slightly weak airflow; if you’re particular about hair care, I think you’ll feel more comfortable bringing one you’re used to. Skincare amenities were provided from the Accommodation’s original brand. We’ve stayed at many sightseeing Accommodations for anniversary trips before, and overall we felt we had an exceptionally fulfilling stay here. There is also Banana Wani-en nearby (a great stop for sightseeing), making this an excellent location—and above all else, the staff were wonderfully warm. We would love to visit again!

Wonderful Accommodation
Based on Reviews and YouTube, I was looking forward to my stay until the day of arrival, excited to experience things for the first time—like a terrace with a footbath and golden eye snapper shabu-shabu enjoyed with the head chef’s signature dashi broth. From the Shuttle Service from the station to the warm welcome at the Accommodation, every staff member—including our Room attendant—provided outstanding service. I was even moved the moment I stepped into the Room. The footbath while gazing at fresh green maple leaves felt incredible, and before the large public bath there were four kinds of drinks and plenty of aroma options. Being able to use them in the Room surrounded me with a wonderful fragrance, and above all it was quiet, relaxing, and truly comfortable. The meals were gentle on the body and absolutely delicious. I’m interested in other Rooms as well, and I’d love to stay in this Room again during peak autumn foliage season. Thank you very much for contacting me after my Reservation regarding my mistake and for kindly responding to my inquiries as well.

Your way of choosing a Ryokan may be about to change.
When my grandchild suddenly decided to visit during Golden Week, I was almost resigned to the idea that there wouldn’t be any Ryokan with vacancies at the last minute. While browsing IKYU, I came across Gyokusui. We usually stay at places that cost around 60,000–70,000 yen per person per night, so to be honest, I assumed that at Gyokusui’s price point the meals and baths would be fairly modest. (Please forgive my rudeness.) However, although the Room does show its age, the food was delicious—we even enjoyed spiny lobster and abalone. As for the baths, we were able to enjoy two private open-air baths in our Room with free-flowing hot spring water. The temperature was perfect, and we went in many times. The staff member in charge of our Room was a foreigner, but they were very pleasant, and we had a truly comfortable stay. It was such excellent value for money that it made me feel silly for always searching only for expensive Ryokan until now. The garden is beautifully maintained, and you can really feel the effort put into keeping this price while offering thoughtful services in various ways. We would definitely like to visit again. By the way, it seems they no longer offer coffee milk as mentioned in some Reviews. I had been looking forward to it because coffee milk after a bath is so good—so it was disappointing—but given today’s rising prices, it can’t be helped.
